Just found this channel & its a god send from someone un biased, I am a bit of a Preston Tackle Tart but these reviews are excellent, I am also a float a holic, Floats catch Anglers not fish lol. I like the mixture of various brands some not seen before, like the Gardner loop tyer, i would not be without it, compact item that lives in my side tray & one in the garage, Keep up the good work Paul, great job Thanks

Hi Paul. I enjoy you videos, very informative.
I’m new to pole fishing please will you explain what you mean by 2+2.

    • @paulstacklereviews1695

Thanks for the good feedback. 2 + 2 is a phrase used to mean fishing short, and basically means your top kit (top 2) plus 2 more sections, so about 5m out. It doesn’t mean you should religiously fish 4 sections, but on a lot of venues it’s where the slope stops and the bottom flattens out. Some places may be top kit and one section, others top kit plus 3, but where the slope stops is a regular patrolling route for fish and obviously bait will roll to there. The best place to target is just short of where it flattens (6 inch) so you are fishing near the bottom of the slope, but not in any silt which may be on the flat bottom. It can work with 6/8mm pellets, meat, corn and is a good place to start on commercials as fish may be there already. You can then keep feeding it by hand during the day and it can be good later in the day. Obviously the key is to plumb up accurately before fishing to find the right spot. Hope this helps, if you search for ‘short pole’ on UA-cam there are videos by the experts.

Thanks for the good feedback. If you see my other video on pole elastics I look at the hooks and line I use to balance my tackle.

Good review Paul. 👍 I just think it’s annoying how some float makers use grams as weight rating others come with 4x12 or 8x16 etc. It all very misleading requiring beginners to have conversation charts to understand. As it it we all buy shots/Stotz etc in bb -#8/#9/#10 etc so why can’t the manufacturers use rating as per 2 bb or 7x#8 or 10x#6 etc just to help beginners etc. how to set up easy.

I agree, I always convert to grams when working out shoting. For years I thought 4x16 was 0.6g when in fact it’s nearer 0.5g. I do try and keep a note (on my phone) of what shot is on a rig for future reference - I do have too much time on my hands!!

Good video the guru floats are very strong and robust defo recommend them.
Also the newer des shipp floats like the edge float and the carp shallow float and the diamond floats are really nice floats to use they work well...
BUT... i DON'T recommend the Des Shipp commercial slims pole float range...When they first came out i went to THE BIG ONE SHOW and i brought 30 of the CARP PELLET floats 4x14 i had high hopes i was excited to use them and OMG worst float ive ever used 10 of them broke they all fell apart right at the base of the body of the float where the stem goes into the body they just snapped very easy. I still have brand new ones of them ive not used and i wont be using them. But as i said the newer Des Shipp Commercial Pole Floats are much better but saying that ive not used them much so i cant really confirm if they break like the slims???

I tried the Des Shipp slim and whilst I didn’t suffer breakages I didn’t like the eyes. I agree the new commercial range are excellent.
