Paul’s Tackle Reviews
Приєднався 4 гру 2020
I’m a coarse fisherman, I fish matches and would describe my standard as a good club angler who is competitive in open matches.
I’m very particular with my tackle and always trying new stuff to find what suits me and what is best for any particular job.
I mainly fish still waters, but love any method - long and short pole, paste, method, groundbait feeder, maggot feeder, shallow pole, margins, pellet waggler, standard waggler etc.
I used to be a local government accountant, but now I’m a carer for my wife and get a full days fishing every week.
I have time during the week which has prompted this channel. I’m no computer expert and use my iPad and iPhone for all my videos. I’m not looking to make money, it’s fun for me and I hope to give the kind of independent detailed reviews of tackle tested over a good period of time which are rarely found.

Very good video I have one To
Hi Paul, thank you for the video, just purchased a second hand trolley and looking forward to using it. Thank you for showing how you load it. Do you know if you can still purchase the handle adapters that you mention in your video?
Unfortunately not, the guy who made them has stopped due to health issues.
@@paulstacklereviews1695 Thank you for letting me know.
Thank you, Paul. Thats very useful review and I think I will buy one.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Paul, what's your thoughts on the roller now you have used it for a while?
To be honest I rarely use it, it’s best for difficult banks or where you need to ship back accurately between foliage/trees etc. I use my Maver roller most of the time.
hi paul , do you want to know how to make your own rig strips for next to nothing ...there £40 for five on the website . i made 12 for £17
Yes please, I’ve put 5 rows of black stick on dots on my rig mate at the moment.
@paulstacklereviews1695 1965 ? me too .. boxing day how can I show you Paul . I've just sent a video to my mate to show him. you will be quite. impressed . on there website 15 strips is £120.. I've made 12 up to now for £12.60. hey I could put the video on UA-cam perhaps ? il do a new one video as I use his name on the video , only his first name . . honestly once I show you these . I think loads will copy them .
Yes, please, tell me more
@leonsmith2222 hi Leon, I will do a little video for you . upload it to UA-cam . then send you the link on here. I own 12 strips now. never need more than 12. who would. £17 ISH.
@@stecartmel Hi Ste, that would be great thank you as I’m off to TBF mid march and need to do some rigs, I have 5 clean strips that I never got round to using and then seen the diagrams ones made up but I agree it seems expensive as you would want a few and even if you could mix and match I guess. Do you need my email ?
I brought a 5000 to go on my 11ft feeder rod. But sent it back as it is really small. compared daiwa 4000 more of a 3000 and was hoping for something bigger.
Shame there isn’t any standardisation across the industry.
Hi Paul, just wondering how your getting on with the nytro feeder rod. Only I am in the market for a budget rod 10ft for method and maggot feeder looking at the nytro Preston and daiwa feeder rod's around £50. And looked back on your reviews on this rod.
I’ve given it to a junior after I got the Supera, but my mate has the 9ft and 11ft Impax and loves them both, perfect commercial rods. To be honest I don’t think you will regret any of the rods you mention, budget gear has never been better. When I reviewed the Supera x which was 5x the price of the Impax the improvement was marginal.
Hi Paul little update on my gilet had it on twice and it turns itself on to full heat after about 15 mins. Does it all the time whatever setting or even from the off position . I’d even say the heat is unbearable like a proper hot spot . Just wondering if anyone else has had any issues with it .
Sorry to hear that, annoying when things don’t work properly. It’s not a problem I’ve had. I’d suggest you try another power bank to make sure it’s not that (may be the power bank is turning itself on which makes the jacket work). It could be a poor connection, maybe lie it on the floor connected and leave it to see if it comes on, if it doesn’t it could be a bad connection which is affected by your movement when you wear it, if so back to the retailer. Let us all know how you get on.
Great video as usual Paul,I have all the MAP Luggage but am struggling to find a second hand MAP SEATBOX, keep up the great videos
Thanks 👍
Thanks for great review Paul . I just got one brand new off eBay £50 and I got the battery to . Only had it on no. 1 setting up to now cos it gets really warm .
It’s a very effective heating element, hope they try socks next!
Hi Paul Have ordered Heated Gilet for Hubby xmas present so really pleased for your informative review; just one question - hubby always (well sometimes if he catches !! ) comes home smelling of fish so I have to put everything in the wash; do you know if these Gilet are washable ? seasonal greetings.
It’s hand wash only, but it should be an inside layer (needs to be fairly near his skin to feel the heat) so shouldn’t get dirty, I’ve never needed to clean mine. Merry Christmas.
Hi Paul, Just been looking for some info on braid for my bass fishing in the summer, I usually stick to powerpro, But I came across this channel on UA-cam ( The Line Laboratory ) which you may have seen or not, Its really fascinating, I think we're being ripped off for braid.
I’ll have a look thanks.
Thx for the no bs review Paul 👍 Would love to get one. Will have to save some pennies up 😆
So worth it.
Great review thank you will order one in the morning thank you
Glad I could help
Great review Paul. I think a good investment and good value.
Absolutely, had it on a lot today!
Another great review Paul. Thanks as always
My pleasure!
Very good review, Paul, the one issue I've had with my preston gilet is when it's plugged in and I'm fishing it had switched it's self on , this had happened a few times before. Wouldn't be with out though
I’ve not had that issue, you will know pretty soon it’s on!
Good review as always paul and till next time tight lines😊
Thanks 👍
Once again a very informative and useful review Paul. I trust your judgement and you seem very thorough. This is definitely something I will consider buying. Keep up the good work buddy and tight lines to you too. 🎣🎣🎣
Now is the time for this gilet, or put it on your Christmas list!
How do you recharge it, Is it the same as charging a mobile phone? Great review paul, especially the cheaper power pack!
You charge the power pack with a usb c cable (which is supplied with it). I use my iPhone 16 cable.
Excellent review. Thanks Paul.
You keep, watching I’ll keep making them, thanks.
Really look forward to your reviews Paul. I’ve bought a few things after watching your vids and everything is always has you said.
Great to hear, many thanks.
I’ve found that Preston sizing is rather generous, I’m XL but can get away with L in Preston gear.. Great video again Paul, always informative with no BS.
Thanks 👍, good information.
Thanks for the review
You’re welcome
Great Vid you covered any questions I might have had. Thanks for posting…. Fishing with Den is a UA-camr like yourself and mentioned you in one of his vids the other day 👍
Thanks for the good feedback. I saw Den’s video, nice to get a name check!
Can you wash them m8
Handwash only
It’s hand wash only, but as I said it’s rarely your outermost garment so my experience is that it doesn’t get dirty.
Useful video, thanks Paul. looks simple enough for me to use, the sports type stopwatches are too complicated for my liking, seems Matrix have this product well thought out.
@@peterbr3736 excellent design and now I have a bracket on my side tray to hold it in the perfect position.
Another great and unbiased review Paul. Thanks
Thanks 👍
Thanks for another interesting review video Paul. Excellent as always.
Thanks for the good feedback, I’ll keep going while people watch and get something out of the videos.
Another good video thanks and as you say tight lines
It’s not easy getting tight lines at the minute, this weather has put oxygen levels down and everywhere near me is rock hard!!
Well done paul another great video..always look forward to them
Thanks 👍
Good information thanks
Welcome
These look interesting, but they do look heavy compared to other pots if they have a hinge, screw and magnet in them?
It weighs 8.1g compared to medium Matrix with sprinkle lid 6.3g.
@@paulstacklereviews1695 Cheers for that, 25% extra is quite heavy. I'll stick with my old preston cad pots at 3.9g, a little smaller but less than half the weight. The garbolino ultralight speed pots are even lighter than that at less than 3g. Which is a big difference.
I’m surprised no one has made carbon ones, stressing the weight advantage whilst probably selling them for £20 each!
@@paulstacklereviews1695 I don't think anything can get any lighter than the utralight pots as they are made out of thin plastic. The cut-back version's are less than 2g (1.77g on my scales)
@@paulstacklereviews1695l still have two conical carbon pole cups made by Fox they were expensive at the time but they have lasted me and are still mint condition. The idea of beeping cone shaped was to push them through the water like a ship but being conical balls of ground bait hand a minimal contact on the pot so dumping was much easier than a flat bottomed pot. There’s no reason why someone couldn’t market a carbon pole pot.
Another great review Paul. 👍
Thanks 👍
Where can you get the magma pots tried everywhere
Www.matchmansupplies.co.uk show them in stock.
Search Cresta Magma pot every tackle shop I tried had stock
I have the 9ft impax carp feeder rod and i have to say it is a beautiful rod to use ...it feels like big fish u have on are not getting away or snapping your rod.....its one of the best rods I have used
Thanks for sharing, good to hear.
Enjoyable video Paul. Which net handle would you pair with this net. Thanks.
@@keithmasek2855 I’ve gone back to my Drennan Acolyte Carp 3.6m, two piece. It’s so stiff and you’d have to do something daft to break it, the extra length over say the bottom two section of my Maver Signature (2.9m) is very handy.
Hi Paul, I recently got in touch with you about my Matrix tray not tightening on my leg and you suggested putting a jubilee clip, so it could rest on that. I have tried it a couple of times now without any problems, so I have ordered the hood it has just come. It fits on really easily as well like you said, so just waiting for this weekend now to try it out. Thanks Paul👍
@@jamesstridgen6320 brilliant news, glad to help. The hood is excellent and easy to remove for the odd dry day we get!
Really nice review Paul. Many thanks.
Going to stop watching your very good tackle test videos it costs me money . I must have a carbon net must. 😂
I can only apologise but you know it’s a ‘must’ purchase!!
@@paulstacklereviews1695 I do know that got an 18” one in my Angling Direct badket
@ I’ve got one in my Angling Direct basket as we speak Paul, just have to decide on a new feeder reel l’m seriously considering a Magnitude before they release a new model with folding handle and quick drag. Neither facility do l need.
I like my Magnitude (prefer it to Centris which I sold). My others are mainly Shimano XR.
@ that’s sealed another expense then Paul. I like the Centris but l prefer the Magnitude large diameter bale arm and it’s a tad lighter too. I sold my XR Shimano’s because of the bale arm being so thin. It was very light and great for pellet waggler but l prefer my Magnitude.
Looks too deep to me, which is a shame. If you haven't got long arms, then reaching down into a deep net isnt efficient and just feels so clumsy and have to bend down and rummage. The shallower the better for me, much faster to speed net and unhook. I have the madfish carbonair, and have had no problems with doubles in it. At the time, I weighed it, and did find the guru barbsafe is also comparatively light, there wasnt a lot in it.
You only have to put the net on your knees and it becomes very shallow. Depth is no problem at all
It’s all down to the kind of fishing you do, venues and personal preference as to whether this net works for you.
@@davidsmith2663 depth isn't a problem for you, but it is for me with shorter arms. My opinion mate, used loads of different nets over my match life, and I prefer shallow ones.
@@jeremybenson5305 You have to use what works for you. I have quite long arms so the deeper net works for me. As long as the fish fits in the net and you can unhook it then jobs a good un. I do like the Preston carbon net but only have it in 18” at the moment
Cheers Paul another great and honest video
I’m getting back into it now, more on the way.
Nice video paul..thanks
Very welcome
Great review thanks 😊
Thanks for watching!
I wish I had to use my landing net every time I went fishing. 😂
I blanked for the first time in 13 years last week. Didn’t use my net other than to scoop water in a tub!
Do they fit other side trays i have a nufish side trays
@@geraldhinde681 I don’t think so having looked at pictures of Nufish trays.
Hi Paul what is the bracket thing with the yellow knobs across the rear two legs on your box?
I have a Nufish keepnet arm on each leg, the fit into the Preston shuttle inception adaptors on my shuttle, the box sits square on them.
Thanks Paul. Useful review as always (ps: have I missed your final paste fishing video from last year?). Cheers.
It didn’t happen due to the weather and my availability, it was only going to be a wrap up of the others.
My side tray does not tighten up anymore Paul and the way I can still use it is to let it rest against the frame of my box. A bit disappointed with it to be honest.
Disappointing, perhaps put a jubilee clip on your leg to get it to sit higher.
@@paulstacklereviews1695 what a great idea Paul. I will give it a go and let you know 👍
Just simply places a jubilee clip on Paul and it works, so simple. Thanks mate👍
I haven't got any of the Matrix Quick release components apart from this clamp, but i was surprised on how tough the release mechanism is, like you said Paul hopefully it will loosen up as it gets used, its perfect for the Digital clicker
I may apply a bit of Vaseline.
