My new compressor clutch does not spin freely I went back to AutoZone to test a more expensive compressor and it was the same result. Are you certain the clutch should spin freely?
thank you so much for this video. I have never done this before and was quoted $900. I did it myself and saved $650. never would have attempted without your help
What kind of PAG OIL did you use?
I have been working on mechanical equipment for 40 years and that was a very impressive video clear and concise and accurate, kudos to you great job
🙏
Very good video! The only thing I struggled with was the power steering line. I ended up having to disconnect it and move it out of the way; there was no way to remove or install the compressor with the hard line connected to the rubber hose. I greatly appreciate the detail and time you put into this.
I'm saving Altimas one car at a time! Thank you sir.
Just replaced my compressor...Thanks for your help..it was life or death I live in Texas.
Oh, I feel you! I'm in Florida, and my commute to work is 1 hour one way....
Good job! I bet it feels great after you did it yourself!
What kind of PAG oil did you use?
Man, I’ve watched a lot of vids and you are the first I’ve seen who explains and demonstrates process with no digression. Awesome , straight and to the point. I’ll definitely subscribe and see what other vids you have . Thank and keep up the good work.
Awesome, I greatly appreciate that!
Good work on the video. Camera angles were very helpful.
Thanks for the video. It worked great! My AC is colder than it's ever been and the knocking that the old compressor was making has stopped!!
Awesome, good job!
Great job. Efficient to the point and very helpful. May god bless you
Hey - Thank you. Great job on the video. Good quality.
Your video is so clean, its soothing
😂 Is it a nice way to say "boring"? 😁
I like the video a lot,my friend.May God keep Blessing you.
Thanks, you too 🙏!
I would strongly suggest buying the Serpentine belt replacement tool kit made by Husky if you are going to attempt this job on a 2012 Nissan Altima. There is very limited space to access the tension pulley that releases the serpentine belt so using a conventional ratchet is very difficult. For me that was the most challenging part of the replacement and that tool made it much easier.
Thanks for the advise!
Woow wooow 😮 what a professional video, I'm considering doing it by myself , thank you 💯😃
your video is really helpful my friend....
Such a professional. Thank you sir. 🚘😎
Thank you!
Great tutorial, I have a Nissan Altima and my compressor is not working. I wanna do it myself as soon I buy a new one. Thanks a lot my friend...
Thanks!
If I get one from the salvage yard wouldn't it work just as well as long as the wheel spin around?
@@brendamitchell5767 Yes
Very helpful. Thanks for the info!

Very nice 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Best video I've seen yet.
Thank you!
I'm getting ready to do my 08 Altima I was wondering can u use the oil thats in the compressor .Im seeing comments saying to drain the oil
Very professional , so I subscribed thank you
👊🏼
Thank you; this is a very well done street by step video; like the other person I was quoted 1400. That’s money they will never see
Thank you very much
Awesome, I’m glad you find this helpful!
Great video I had ever watched
Hi sir I cannot find the video about adding new refrigerant after replacing all this parts on this nissan I hope you can answer me thank you.
Awesome video very helpful
Awesome video. Thanks
Great video!! Nice work
Thanks!
Thanks for the knowledge my boi clean and straight to the point real professional blessing my man and to you family.
Question is true that when replace ac compressor you also need to replace expand valve, orifice tube, dryer (not condenser cuz I buy 2 year ago is in good condition )and all the o ring from ac compressor siystem ? Should I just replace the ac or everything just an case??? Thanks
Спасибо, все четко и понятно!
Спасибо!
Thank you. Your video helped me
Great to hear that!
Thanks for your video was helpful
👌🏼
Is this the same for the hybrid?
Great video !
Great video! Does this Nissan have the same A/C compressor control valve as the 2013-2018 Nissan Altimas?
I’ve found videos where some people are specifically changing just the control valve and it seems to work, but this is for 2013-2018 models.
Wow this was awesome!!!
Great video, just two things that would help people the oil you are using has dye in it don’t use it to lube O rings, when a tech looks at it for leaks which it will have since you put on the wrong diameter o rings it will be very confusing for him to find the leak.
It is fine if oring is a little bigger if you cant find the exact size. It's worse when using smaller size cuz oring will stretch and won't seal as good. It's been many years since I did this and my AC still blows cold and no leaks.
Good point about the dye though! Thank you for your input!
You are the best :)
How did the compressor work out? What brand is it?
Is there an electrical compressor control valve on the A/C compressor of this car?
Very professional!
Thanks
good job man!
Thanks!
Thanks for the video! Just finished up replacing the AC compressor on my wifes car. I did however have to remove the windshield washer reservoir and the power steering line to get enough space for the compressor to fit. I don't know how you got yours to go so low lol. Great video and explanation.
**By removing the power steering line, I mean , I just unclipped it and took the one bolt off.
Awesome, and thank you!
i think i might look at the clutch video because i can see compressor spinning, but when i turn on the ac the drive belt seizes and kills the engine immediately.
thank you
nice job
Awesome video 👍
Thanks!
Outstanding videography, I will definitely subscribe
I will definately appreciate it!
Nice!! Great video
👍🏻
I had versa 2012 when I started ac I hear rattling sound mechanic who told me I needed ac compressor replacement I had cold air no problem only rattling sound any advice please thanks.
Second compressor not to turn in last two years on same car. Could it possibly just be the clutch assembly?
Thank you. Good job.
Thank you too!
Great video
Thank you!
Where can I buy ac compressor solenoid valve
Good job, Brother
Thanks!
This video is amazing. You make it very easy for a tenuous amature like me. I will try it. The service shop wants almost $1,000 for my 2011 altima compressor that won't turn on any more. No way. One question: why is one of the compressor oils you use bright green, but the other you poured into the compressor clear? Is there a difference? Where do I buy the bright green kind? Thank you, Bthomassen
Thanks, that's because I amateur myself, so I explained everything on amateur level... 😁
Green oil is what was inside compressor from factory. It contains special dye for leak detection. It glows on UV light...
When I bought replacement compressor, it came prefilled with regular oil, so I didn't bother to look for original OEM one.
That's great, Thanks. Also, one other question, what is the name of the tool you have that you are using with the pointy end, that you use to remove the washer/grommets? I need that tool. Thanks!
@@bradthomassen1061 r134a refrigerant is green so the oil that dripped out had the green tint to while the oil he put in was obviously straight oil
I installed a brand new compressor with new expansion valve but it seized with in a month... now replacing everything again including the condenser and drier... hoping it is more durable this time.
Very nice video ,, please do 2016 nissan maxima need to fill the compressor with oil or its come ready to fix with the exact amount
Some do, some dont. Depends on a seller.
exellent video
Hello I have an A/C issue with my 2010 Altima. Compressor clutch stays engaged all the time and the A/C does not cool down enough, just very little bit. There is A/C gas inside. I can not find the A/C compressor relay. Have any idea I can check and fix?
Is this the same as a maxima
Fantastic video, I'm about to do this myself, but I'm curious at what point did you change the coil? You didn't seem to mention that part.
+Andrew Ramirez
I did it a while back. Few years ago my coil went bad and I replaced just the coil....
You probably don't have to worry about it if you replacing the entire compressor. I just mentioned that video since it is also related to AC issues.
Did you use pag100 or pag46?
I have a 2007 Nissan Altima 2.5s. Is the compressor you are using be right for my car?
Yes. I have the same car.
hello well changing the compressor would i need to change the orfice tube or these vehicles don’t have that?
This one doesn’t have it.
Great video! Just a quick question, hope you can answer at your earliest convenience!
When you drained the new AC compressor from its factory oil; do you remember how much oil was pre-installed to it?
No, its been a while...
Me. DIY time, I will be replacing my compressor as well on my 08, and with it the expansion valve and receiver dryer. My question is, does it matter what order we do it on? Thanks
I would do receiver drier last, to make sure it doesn’t get any moisture inside it while you working on the other stuff. It is supposed to be sealed and with minimal air contact, and it is designed to collect moisture inside the system. You don’t want it to become too saturated before you even seal the system.
You should make videos about removing the injectors and cleaning the throttle body the same step by step
Never had to deal with it yet, but if I do, I’ll make sure to record.
Low side pressure is fine but low side suction line is warm and not Cold, what caused this?
Great video, it really helped me last time I replaced mine. My question is are the Ac compressors for those years interchangeable? I have a 09 and have a 08 compressor I want to put into it
I think 07-09 are the same.
@@DIYtime Thanks
👌🏻
I have a 2014 Nissan Altima 4 cylinder. Will the process be similar?
Yes, it should be.
awesome thanks so much
Thanks!
U r welcome Bro
Great video, but I'm confused about oil fill. Isn't the full 150cc of oil you put in only for a complete system flush and if you just replace a compressor, aren't you supposed to adjust the added oil quantity down to account for the amount that's trapped throughout the system? I'm installing a Denso compressor (it comes with oil) and the installation guide says to match the amount of oil in the new compressor to the amount in the old compressor. No oil came out of either my new or old compressors at the ports where the Freon lines connect (where you added the oil in your video). But I was able to drain 120cc from the new compressor when i removed the bolt from the port that's near the Freon lines, but closer to the clutch end of the compressor. I refilled it at this port with about 25cc, which is the amount that came out of the old compressor at that port. Does this sound correct?
Every situation is different. My compressor was leaking, so there was no oil left in it. I used a chart from factory repair manual to find how much oil is needed in my particular situation.
The Nissan Altima service manual says to drain the old compressor and new compressor into separate containers, then fill the new compressor to match the amount of oil that was in the old compressor. If you had a large leak or are replacing the following parts add this amount of oil: Large leak 30 ml, Small leak no oil required, Evaporator 75 ml, Condenser 75 ml, Receiver-drier 5 ml.
does 2014 Altima compressor come preloaded with oil, or does it need to be added before install?
+Frank amaral
It all depends where you are buying it from.
Just read the description when buying the compressor.
Hey very informative video! I was going to buy this package that also includes the A/C condenser, would you happen to know how to remove that?
I haven't touched mine, but I don't think it is too complicated.
Remove bumper and front grill (shown here: ua-cam.com/video/k4BOxlzVW4Q/v-deo.html )
Once that is done, you'll have easy access to condenser.
And then it probably should have two pipes connected to it and couple brackets holding it.
Great video. Just wondering... I have a 2008 Nissan Altima 3.5 (the engine is a V6). Is the job the same for this model? A/C compressor in basically the same spot?
Ye's, is in the same location on your car , on the left side of the engine. The mounting bolts are a little different: two in the front of the compressor, two on the left side.
Thanks. I have a 2008 and the clutch froze up 2 weeks ago. I used a 3' bar to try and turn it from above. the compressor is not froze up or making any noise.
You can try to replace just the compressor then. I have an old video about it on my channel. I did it many years ago.
if the pulley only is froze then you can just replace the bearing or the clutch as a set....but be sure to make sure the clutch gap is within spec
I appreciate this video, thank you. I have a 2008 Altima. My heat works well on the car. The air does too but when I stop at a light it makes a littler noise. Since it's winter will using my heat damage the compressor more?
No, heater is not using AC compressor.
Thank you. May I ask another question please,,,if the Heater Core is bad then the heater should not work right? I just got this car a few months ago and it's drive great except for the compressor and a water leak that I think is from the windshield. But the water is in the floor board on the driver side. Once water came down on the passenger side. WOW!!!
Not necessarily. There might be several reasons why its not working. It should be diagnosed properly first.
Thank you. Happy New Years!!!
Hi, are you saying the compressor I bought from Amazon for example don’t come with oil in it already or the correct amount? So how much oil does it need for a Nissan Rogue Sl 2009? Thank you in advance.
Check with the seller if its pre-filled or not.
I have a 07 Nissan Altima and I'm trying to figure out if I need to replace it or is there a bad leak. I have recharged my car with the AC pro but the line got cold when the car was on and AC on max but a minute later it went back to hot. I'm looking at the ac compressor but the thing that is suppose to turn, does not turn. and I tried it manually, and it turns. Do you think is the compressor or a leak?
You'll need to check pressure in the system. If it is in good range, then there is no leak. If there is a small leak, the pressure gets too low and AC compressor won't turn on. If there is no pressure, you have a big leak. You'll need AC manifold gauge to check pressure.
What if the compressor doesn't start after it has been replaced? What some good troubleshooting tips? Thanks so much for this video!
The pressure in AC system should be correct, otherwise pressure sensor/switch won't engage the compressor.
it's likely your original issue wasnt the compressor
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to make it.
Thanks, Im glad it was helpful...!
Greetings friend, what is the proper ac compressor oil to use for 06 Nissan Maxima 3.5? There's pag46, pag46+uv dye, pag100? Thank you for your vital information. Your video and step by step info is very helpful.
You should have a sticker under the hood with that info for your particular car. Otherwise you would need to get a repair manual and look it up.
Hey man , I hope you response to this. My AC compressor works and everything but the wheel wiggles, idk if I should replace just the wheel or just keep it for now and save for the whole unit
Yes, you can replace the clutch with pulley without taking off compressor and discharging the system. I have a very old video on my channel showing how to do it. Look for “Nissan Altima AC clutch replacement”.
Note that this is demonstrated on an inline four-cylinder Altima. A V-6 will be somewhat similar, but more difficult (a tighter fit).
What was harder and/or took longer...the whole compressor or the compressor clutch?
About the same. However, in my case I had a leak and all refrigerant was gone, which made it a lot easier. Otherwise you have to properly evacuate Freon first, which will require special equipment or trip to a mechanic. After repair, you will have to recharge the system, which also requires special equipment. With clutch replacement, you are not opening the system.
Is it true that the amount of oil that came out of the old compressor is the quantity of oil that goes into the new compressor
in general, yes
Great video. Appreciate you making these. Question, what brand compressor did you end up using? I hear people saying Denso is the OE compressor, but is it really necessary to go back with that?
+Michael Whitehouse
It's really up for you.
I bought refurbished one from eBay with 1 year warranty with o-rings and receiver drier. All for $150. It's been about 1year and it is still working well. New Denso will probably be double of that.
New Denos is 350+ around here
use rockauto.com
What should I do if the new compressor comes whit no lubricant oil at all
Look up in service manual how much to add.
The powersteering line cannot be moved down like in you video. Any suggestions?
Any fix?
I have a question for you. When you change out the compressor, not being able to vacuum it myself, will I risk the new compressor if I take it to a shop for vacuuming and putting refrigerant? I mean replace compressor myself, turn the car on and drive it to a shop for vacuuming and refrigerant?
No. AC system has a pressure sensor. If pressure is too low, compressor wont turn on to prevent damage.
First class
I saw your video on replacing just the clutch. I wanted to do that, but apparently they don't sell a rebuild kit for the 2012 sentra 2.5.
My compressor turns easily, looks fine, and gets power.
The clutch just doesn't engage.
Check your local u-pull junk yards if they have your car. You can usually get it for very cheap, something like $20. You'll just need take it off yourself, but this would be a good practice...
then the problem is likely the clutch gap is too wide and just needs adjusting by removing a shim or changing to a smaller size
Is it the same process for 2007 nissan maxima
No, Maxima has bigger engine and it will be a "little" tight to work on it under the hood.
@ 8:50 was the green o ring not too large? The one on the bottom left looks like a better match with the old black one. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Yes, it was a bit larger. I didn’t have a perfect match. Larger is ok, it will seal the pipes anyway. It’s worse if the ring is smaller - it will stretch and become less in diameter, and wont make a good seal.
@@DIYtime Do you think it would be okay to just reuse the old o rings if they don't look bad?
No, they will fail very soon after. Spend extra $10 to save a lit of headache.
Does the same procedure apply to a 3.5?
Everything will look different on 3.5
Did everything else like the dryer replacement now just trying to replace the compressor and this one bolt just won’t budge any suggestions ?
Try to spray it with penetrating grease and use impact drill. It does wonders with stuck bolts. Maybe borrow it from someone if you don't have it.
I ended up having to have someone heat the bottom of the bolt while I wrenched from up top js
where is the video of how to replace expansion valve? and recharge system? Thanks
I'm still editing the rest of the videos.
Let me see if I can upload raw draft to give you an idea.
Do I need to vacuum the AC Compressor two pipes even if I"m just replacing the AC compressor and not the expansion vavle/drier ? Thanks
It is one sealed system. When you replacing any of the components, you must evacuate the system, and after you are done, pull vacuum.
@@DIYtime Ok thanks a lot
whenever the system is opened, a small amount of moisture gets in which needs to be removed by vacuuming it down for atleast a half hour
