    Fantastic video! Thank you for the comparison.
    Please, I’d love to see you give both cameras a thorough video handheld stabilization comparison in varying real world scenarios.

    Great video, I am surprised how similar both images are and when it comes to more affordable alternatives for video I think the A7S iii is a great option

    Another guy mentions it but i heard that the a7siii has noise reduction that i dont think can be disabled so it looks cleaner but it might cost some detail.

  • @genxtechguy
    @genxtechguy 3 роки тому +1

    3:44 Raw in general has more noise because there is no noise reduction being applied in raw.

    • @Irvingdejong

      Yes, you're right. Unfortunately without an in-camera clog2 I can't speak on what I can't see. Even tho it usually is the case.

    • @Irvingdejong
      @Irvingdejong  3 роки тому

      With that said, maybe I should do an a7siii (ProresRaw) vs R3Raw comparison. ProresRaw has noise reduction off.

    Add that colorspace transform node from clog3 to arri logC to soften the highlight rolloff

      I'm sure it simulates it well but it doesn't actually increase the range. Will check it out and see the results! thanks

    Hey thanks for the video… I currently own a C70 & R7 and have been battling not to sell my canons and dive into the Sony ecosystem with the FX6 and fx30… There’s something about the TEXTURE of the Sony image lately that’s very pleasing to my eye… But after watching a couple of your videos and seeing how you work the images, I think I’ll probably stay with my canons…
    Looking forward to your grading canon footage video…

      Although I completely understand where you're coming from with your view about Sony cameras, most cameras nowadays can get very similar looks. There's a ton of neat tricks to get there and i'll be sharing some of my new discoveries soon! Hope you are enjoying whatever you're working with.

    Congrats on the R3. I did similar test with the R3 Vs Sony A7S3 and FX6… in all honesty, I think up to 10,000 ISO the Canon has a more usable imagine. In my testing there is little difference between 3200 ISO and 10,000 ISO on the Canon (I have the video posted on my channel where I step through the ISOs). Whereas, on the Sony, after about 1600 ISO, noise get bad enough to warrant switching to the 12,800 high base ISO… which introduces at lot of heavy noise reduction. This is largely why I sold my Sony bodies. They were only really usable till 1600 ISO… after which you have to deal with loss of detail. The Canon is much more progressive. In my testing it appeared that at 8,000 ISO the image cleaned up (second base ISO?) You should test them both at 10,000… and then do 10,000 on the Canon Vs 12,800 on the Sony. I’d be curious if your finding support the results I saw in my test.
    I’ve heard it said that the Canon Eos R3 is the new ISO performance king, and I’m my experience it’s a valid claim.

      Thanks for sharing! I appreciate your tests, they actually pushed me to go and get one for myself. I've yet to test both head to head at those iso's but I'm glad you mentioned it because it strikes my curiosity now. I have played with the R3 at 25600 and I'm really impressed. Yes, the biggest frustration with the Sony's is that huge jump to 12800, which can come in handy if you dont mind the detail loss in extreme lowlight but because I've never really experienced another camera as good in lowlight, I didn't realize what a luxury it would be to both maintain good detail & low noise at such high isos.. The gradual noise on the R3 is much much easier to deal with (no need for NDs to controllably jump to 12800 so early LOL) and retains a lot more detail overall. Will get back to you soon!

      I’ve been really thinking about switching to Sony because of the fx3. I have a R5 but hate the drawbacks it has for video. Don’t know if I should keep it n get a C70 or maybe sell it for the R3 or sell it n get a FX3 and an A7IV?

    Such a great video! Thank you very much! Really helps to decide which camera to get. I have currently a C200 and the shadows in Clog2 get really noisy so I am thinking to switch to the R3 as a Hybrid Cam. It would mean the world to me if you could upload a RAW clip of the R3 like at 4:58 so I could look how it compares to the C200.

    • @Irvingdejong
      @Irvingdejong  2 роки тому +1

      thank you Felix. From what I understand, the R3 should be less noisier in the shadows but I don't have a c200 to tell you for sure. I will upload some raw footage soon so Please share your thoughts when you get a chance.

    What are your preferred noise reduction settings in Resolve when using C Log 2 or 3?

    • @Irvingdejong
      @Irvingdejong  3 роки тому

      Situational. depends on how much detail I'm trying to pull. Don't need much in low Iso (between 5-30) and I usually avoid much temporal noise reduction as it can make the footage look a bit too pasty.

    H bro you should sign up for amazon affiliate program. I mean I aint trying to tell you what to do. But I went down to click on a link for the canon R3 and there wasn't one. anyway just a thought bro. Hope you have a good day.

    Did you compare your "clog2" to your clog1? Because if you shoot RAW and choose clog2, it is actually just clog1. The waveforms look identical. At least it was the case for my R5 8K RAW and gerald undone tasted R3 had the same conclusion. only clog1 and clog3, no clog2.

      Gerald Undone made a bad manipulation (by the way, it's crazy that a specialist makes this kind of mistake). I have R3 and yes there is c-log 2 in raw. FCP and davinci even automatically decode the raw in c-log 2. Look at the test I did: c-log 3 .mov (1st shoot) vs c-log 2 in raw (2nd shoot)…the difference is obvious:

    Does R3 have Clog 2 ??

    • @RayValdezPhotography
      @RayValdezPhotography 2 роки тому +1

      No but in raw u can do it somehow. With the r5 cameras, canon says it doesn't really add any benefit. The R3 is largely untested for some reason so besides this dude that i stumbled upon, i haven't heard much about it in the R3. The R3 sensor might be a lot better than the R5 for video.

    • @peterra2532
      @peterra2532 2 роки тому

      I have the R3 and by the way on FCP or Davinci Resolve, the RAW files are automatically managed as c-log 2. I can assure you that there is a real difference between the c-log 3 in h265 and the c-log 2 in raw.

      Hey, I completely understand the confusion. I wish I could be more loose with the terms but I have to use them to be precise and straight to the point. Hopefully you've gotten accustomed to it by now! The company's name their log formats with a particular letter in mind. C-Log (canon log) , S-Log (sony Log) .. etc. hope that helps
