I was stationed at Camp Red Cloud (Ui Jung Bu) when the incident happened. Everyone who lived off-post was ordered back to the barracks, and furthermore were ordered to draw weapons. We were on alert for weeks. Reading through all the aryicles and seeing this video brings it all back like it was yesterday.
We are wrong. The last 80 years they've brutally extinguished hundreds of thousands of innocent human lives. Our biggest weakness- we don't see the mission through to the end. Imagine a world today, with free Korea, Free China, Russia, and the middle east.
i remember when we were going to tour the site when i was in processing to go to camp casey and the MP leading the tour answered his radio, stared at us and said "dont fuckin move, i'll be right back" before slamming the door....we later found out north korea was threatening to start a war that day after america threatened to respond to their bombing of that island...being some 19 year old farm kid from idaho it was pretty intense coming to understand that im gonna go to war, lol...like usual, nothing happened but still that was a pretty intense first week at processing and with my unit
North Korea killed two American officers and America’s reaction was cut a tree , from all that “ force “ a Korean tree for two American officers?? Wow , ironic fact
They did the best maneuver possible. That tree was supposedly planted by their dear leader (warden).... we chopped it down and left it to lay scattered and an ugly little stump left, they did nothing... if they did it'd be on their bad. I'm sure many wanted them to attack..... many. It'd be over for them. As always they bitched up. All bark, little nibble. A bigger picture was going on back then.
We went in there and avenged them if you think about it. We made sure their work was finished and engraved their memory into every foolish North Korean who saw what they did as a victory.
There is much more to this story, it's not quite so simple as this video makes it out to be. I was a RANGER 1975-79 and can tell you the north paid for this. That's all I can say!

Protect the soldiers and building numbers for combat thank you for your service
I was at Casey. Remember it well.
Thanks for the information ! It just seemed like an ambush, I bet everyone was waiting for an attack at that point
That was some serious backup.
My father-in-law flew one of the helicopters for this operation. I believe he was flying an OH-58 Kiowa Scout Helicopter.
I was stationed at Camp Kitty Hawk (JSA) when this happened. Despite all these years, it does seem like it was just yesterday.

Operation overkill lol. I will shat my pants seeing 27 helicopters just for a tree.
didn't even mention the south Korean troops that strapped bombs to their chests.
And they yelled at the North Koreans, taunting them to cross the bridge.
Suzy Sheep from Peppa Pig : CHOP THE TREE DOWN

@@RocZi it was brought down entirely eventuallly... nothing but a memorial now.

My Dad navigated in bombing missions. N. Korea is a bark, no bite.
Yes, there WAS bite, there were 2 American casualties.
@@IRISHBUTT there most certainly was. RIP
The problem here is the us lost 2 officer and yet no one is hurt or killed in the north korean side, looks like they just laugh at the show of force

The American reaction was one of the most pathetic retaliations.
