They do such a beautiful job with this song. I can listen to it over and over again. They always expressed such joy, spirit, and feeling in their singing.
Shambala is like a spiritual retreat in Buddhism, I think based on a mythical kingdom in their scriptures. The song was a hit song in the early 70s originally.
Not sure what's more awe inspiring - those bass notes he's singing or a full stop pipe organ playing maniacally..including the pedals obviously, but yeah wow.
They could have... you can't see all their faces... you don't see elliot's face at all... and I noticed the dancer seems to have orange slacks and a green shirt, where Barry appears in an orange shirt and dark slacks... but you can't tell if it's another dancer with Barry's build and haircut... or Barry at another time.
I love the Nylons. Their Four on the Floor album is one of the best live acapella albums out there. But you can't deny the range and depth of Rockapella. Barry's sound and fullness is ridiculous, and Scott's arrangements, along with his floating tenor sound, expand the range of Rockapella beyond what most groups are capable of. So yeah, I love them both.
@yankeesfan4liffe I do agree, but John's awesome. I'm not a big fan of Steve yet, but I haven't really heard (or seen) what he can do yet. I never cared that much for Kevin, so I guess that's a trade-off. George is more versatile than Barry, but he doesn't have Barry's boom either. He DOES have a much better solo voice than Barry. I'm really looking forward to the new album when it comes out.
Yep, I sure did. I remembered Rock River as soon as I'd posted, and I was thinking No Doubt At All was one of his, but then I wasn't completely sure, because I think I've only heard about it and not heard it. I unfortunately have only heard clips of I Know Christmas. ;__; **wants their Japanese import albums, but wants them new, and they're so expensive!**
@mikeocheskey 4 tenors and a beat box do not an acappella group make. Tight harmonies? No base, barely a baritone line. This is not "tight" It sounds lika a stereo containing only tweeters. Rockapella has a full sound. Every male voice is represented. Get your ears checke my friend.
He has a few more than just one, as I've found after looking up a lot of their older material (and some more recent). :) Let's Get Away From It All Just You, Just Me Don't Do It Kingdom of Shy Holiday Groove Home for the Holidays And I'm sure there's others I'm forgetting.... While it's not a solo all the way through, he does have a fairly big solo part in both versions of their Glow Worm/It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas combo.
oh my goodness. thanks so much for putting this up! the sound quality is super here, and i can hear every layer of music and vocals. i was lucky enough to catch them when they came to my town and sang this song. whoa. magical! i'm getting their cd TOO :D
Nice but WAY overproduced. Way too slick. There must be 90 tracks on here. The electronic drums add nothing. I would much rather hear them do a live real version.
@prendamike A place of peace, love, and tranquility in which all people are happy and coexist with each other... the point of the song is that it's not a literal place per se but it's a state of mind
One of the most harmonious acapella groups with the fullest sound I have ever heard!

AN OLD TUNE FORM THE 70'S DONE NICELY...
2 people took a wrong turn on the way to shambala
love this song! cheesy video.....but that makes it even better!!
THEY DO AN AMAZING RENDITION OF I CAN SEE CLEARLY, I JUST LOVE THEM
Those low Cs are incredible... Especially at 0.38 when Barry Carl sings "Shambala"

I don't think it's Barry, but whoever it is is fantastic! Too bad these CSCott14 videos don't have any credits in the description.
Whenever I think of Rockapella two words come to mind: Carmen Sandiego.
i just wish the quality was better...the soundis awesome...just the picture=]
can listen to this over and over again
Barry makes this song what it is!!! I love listening to this song to chill out
This is amazing. It gives me chills and helps me. Thank you. A much appreciated throwback. God bless.
So musically perfect.
I remember listening to this group when it was the original line-up.
Still sounds great in 2024!

How about the Three Dog
Nght version?
I love the vid, but we don't get to see Elliot's face... :-(
That is Barry dancing in the window, correct? So graceful. Such a big man, and so graceful.
maybe they had professional dancers tho
ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS EVER! NICE VERSION HERE BY ROCKAPELLA!
Not the same anymore without Barry.
So, absolutely EPIC!!!
favorite version of this song. my dream to see them in comcert!
I wonder what building this was filmed in? Looks sort of like the now demolished Balmain Power Station in Sydney.
On the road to Shamba-
How is this not more popular?! :'-(
mikeocheskey Did M-Pact get a contract to sing the theme to an educational game show?
Umm.... Which song do you mean? The Glow Worm one? Elliott's solo is the verse that starts "Swim through the Christmas night, little dancer ..."

Let's Get Away From It All
Just You, Just Me
Don't Do It
Kingdom of Shy
Holiday Groove
Home for the Holidays
And I'm sure there's others I'm forgetting....

I love these guys
Ah yes. XD Whoops. **bemoans the price of the Japanese imports!**
Their New Year's Eve concert at the McKay Events Center in Orem, Utah. ♥
i remember seeing these cats on Star Search and thinking "there's almost nothing they can put up against this that has a chance"
@three6right Then you should really listen to M-Pact. Rockapella is awesome, but M-Pact has them beat on tight harmonies and musicality.
You can see him ath the beginning, standing to the left, standing on... something.
Imagine Barry doing that... O_O (considering he was 52 when he left the group in '02, and this was '97, which makes him 47)
Expensive? I thought Smilin' was $15 on their website....
I'm planning to buy it when I go to their concert this month. ♥
have no idea why this is showing your comment as having been flagged for s p a m can't see why someone would have done that...

He does, I think there is ONE song he sings solo. In their "In Concert" concert
My a cappella group is working on this arrangement it's sounding pretty good. I will try and post it once we finish it.
Can I see the post?
Esse dançarino compôs uma coreografia perfita com a música!! Excelente performance e música!!
I LOVE YOU! thanks so much for posting this!
One of my top 5 favorite rockapella songs
Can’t get enough of you guys! Awesome!
Always liked these guys...
im gonna sing this song at my spring concert
I love listening to you guys.
Sorry but what is Shambala?
Uncharted 2: The Song
tks for sharing
What's the problem???
Nice but WAY overproduced. Way too slick. There must be 90 tracks on here. The electronic drums add nothing. I would much rather hear them do a live real version.
Nice but it strikes me as a little too perfect and overproduced.
Mick Soiseth How can something be too perfect?
HUGE yodel fail from these dudes..
