Had mine for 7 years and daily it. You don't get tired of the noise. Fun car within the speed limit too. Don't have such a reputation here though as there aren't many around.
What a good review. The VR32 is rather a good car. Lovely exhaust which one can Never tire of the sound of a V6. So yes the VR32 can be a sensible car But it can also not be (purely dependant on its steerer (note I don't use the word driver)).
The problem I have with modern Volkswagen stuff is that it will really impress you. The fit and finish will be lovely, the way it drives faultless. But doesn't matter if it's a 2.0 TDI or Golf R. There is something too clinical about them. To me they feel a bit soulless and not involving.
@@ProjectNigel Yes. I always feel the same about our Passat. You get in it and you think. Nice interior! The engine fires up instantly and even from cold it's nothing more than a muted rattle. You put your heated seat on. The DSG is seemless, it's in 6th gear at 30mph. Then after about 3 minutes you start to get bored. 😆 you can't quite put your finger on what you don't like about it? Driving it is utterly unmemorable and as a passenger it's to refined to be any fun. Its so insulated and so capable making it nothing more than an A-B tool! You start to think 'do I actually like cars? Maybe I should listen to more music or learn to be a really good cook' 🤣 then yes, you look at old Rovers or any car that isn't just a white good on wheels. Volkswagen should make fridges and washing machines not cars. 🤣
@@ProjectNigel In fact! The day we got that Passat in 2010. Something changed. It felt like life wasn't going to be 'fun' anymore. 🤣🤣🤣 and quite frankly it feels like I've stepped in one giant turd ever since. 😅😅😅
No flappy paddle and your already dead (old). Stupid old farts ^ Hammer it through the twisties with a flappy and it's the best sedan outside a BMW 135 ever made.
I love that engine so much. I had the golf r32s brother the Audi A3.2 I loved it so much . I then bought a BMW 320i , I was depressed for 6 months till I got rid of it and back in an Audi TT 3.2 I’m happy again. These engines are great but watch for the chains stretching. The DSG is quicker but safer with the manual. Oh and on a nice run at 50mph you can get 37-40 mpg. Dreading the day I will be forced to go electric.
I like a Golf, at least I did up until the Mk7 which I didn’t like so much and then I lost interest. I’ve had at least one of every generation up to a 7 and for me the Mk5 is the best. Closely followed by the Mk2 but they’re a bit old and too pricey to be used every day now. If you’re interested, the Miller list of Golfs in order of greatness is 5>2>1>4>3>7>6. The Mk6 comes last for being a Mk5 with a meh facelift that included considerably worse seats and a weird raised area for the steering wheel buttons that annoyed the hell out of me because it was right where I wanted to put my thumbs so why bother when you can buy the much nicer Mk5 for less money. The Mk6 is Die Projekt Drive Golf.
‘Enjoyed’ is an interesting term. I don’t think anyone really enjoys a VW, I think they’re more appreciated than enjoyed. They’re just extraordinarily competent cars that are extremely good at most of the things people ask of them and competence isn’t really something to get excited about. They are in many ways what Rover could, perhaps should have been, classy yet classless.
need a transmittion swap asap get that out of there love the vid tho sounds bloody good torn between the diesel popcorn limiter polo tho i think i would go towards that more tbf as in if i would choose whitch one to drive
i have had a lot of great cars including Beetles, 240Z and V8's now being retired i wanted a compact car but with an old school feel. Looked at 370Z a bit too posy and Jaguar XKR, Maserati but test drove a Mk4 R32 and was hooked, what is not to love about these cars. Have a solid feel about them with manual transmission AWD and engine is powerful and tough and they really look like a regular hatchback that doesnt attract too much attention until you hear the roar of the legendary engine. Out of all the great cars i have owned the VW MK4 R32 is the best even for just the driving pleasure. Mine is basically stock with lots of upgrades from the perspex window monsoons to headlights Nuburgring wheels and cat back which isnt too noisey and to top it of H& R and Bilsteins.
I’d like to play with one, although the dsg puts me off - but why would I when I have an Impreza, apart from the heated seats? But then if I want fun and a warm botty - there’s the Forester. The only VWs I would contemplate owning would be the Corrado VR6. Maybe a MK 1 Golf GTi. I also have an antipathy towards the VW scene because too many perfectly good Subarus have been sacrificed to keeping air-cooled antiques going well past their useful life. I’ll shut up now.
They are average road car with a noise. If super charger is tweaked they become a bit quicker. Back in the day it was a wanna beat the group A type standard road cars.

Dgs expensive lol 😆 It sounds nice but I will stick to my TDI 😆 what do class as new both my audis are 18 years old 😆 🤣. I have had the mk5 GT Tdi never really thought about the R32, although I like the idea, but don't want the DSG box there big and heavy and go wrong a lot. I play that game fastest to speed limit. Also, the other reason for not having it you need a petrol station to follow you. 🤣🤣🤣

It's a lovely car very solid but there slow very very slow I had a lovely mk 4 1.8t then I bought a mk 5 R32 it's honestly didn't feel that much quicker than my mk 4
Loads of these still on the roads........ and they'll still be on the roads in 50 years time. There's one around here that was customized with Mexican Flags and some such nonsense. It's called............... The Golf Of Mexico 👀😂! Lol 😅.
Best car I've purchased. AWD is great for leaving gtis and mustangs behind at the traffic lights. Not so quick after 60 mph though.
Turbo it.
Had a silver 2 door Mk5 R32 for 7 years from new and enjoyed it immensely without the need to thrash it.. no issues at all
The R32 smile that everyone gets when opening it up 😃
Unique car in the era of 2.0T and evs❤
I guess so

🙂
I have the same motor in my tt mk2 with a magna flow exhaust and when I go through a tunnel or under pass it’s 🥜 nuts lol 😂 🤫
Im on my 3rd R32 just a awesome car, would not buy anything else.
Standard exhaust I see. Must be the Forge filter that gives it the lovely sound 👍🏻
I think someone has taken the mid section resonator out. As that is a lot louder than stock

Very competent car, however, nothing compares to the sound of an Alfa Romeo Busso V6. Now that's an engine.

what exhaust system does this have on it, thats not stock surely?
I'm not sure tbh
Definitely not stock, stock is way more mellow and burbly at low revs
