i have a 7800X3D and a 4080 super. with the same ship in space, power off, i get 300fps. engines on 210fps. (32gb ddr5-6000, 1440p) Edit: in Lorville 60fps. but it depends on the clouds. the 4080 super can't handle those as good as a 4090
@@gamedaytoday1i would love to see that, atm iam not doing much better, than again i set my profile to 6000mhz (standard though) and i kept it like that because of the rumours back than it might melt my cpu :)
The drop in fps when powering up the ship is caused by the MFDs. They are still using Adobe Flash for the UI instead of the Building Blocks system CIG built. Flash is notoriously inefficient with resources, and the more MFDs you have, the worse the performance impact gets. Newer ships with only two MFDs are much better in this regard, but there is still an fps impact. Also, the HUD itself can also cause performance issues sometimes, but those are usually bugs, squashed quickly.
Your timing is perfect. I’m new to PC building and just built my own rig last year for SC. 4080, 13900k on a msi z790 edge with 64gigs of corsair vengeance 5600. I get almost identical fps to Ollie and couldn’t figure out for the life of me why it wasn’t performing better. I’ve just purchased the ram you linked. Thank you
The game isn't optimized, but you inspired me to take a deeper look into my RAM. Turns out I'm rocking awful RAM CL42 and doesn't even have XMP. Just in time to pick up a black Friday dead
@@gamedaytoday1 usually they say memory speed doesnt matter. But why would there be differences in memory speed if it doesnt matter? I bet the differences is more in ddr5 than compared ddr4 memory.
Great video👍🏽👍🏽 really changed the game with this one (literally). Easily the best star citizen channel out there. Been following your tips for some time and it has made a massive difference in my overall optimisation and performance. Hitting insane FPS numbers for my setup. Keep them coming bro!
I've got i7-10700KH @ 3.8GHz, 32GB Ram @ 3600Mhz (4 slots DIMM) & RTX 3070 8GB RAM - I don't notice poor frame rate or slow downs during my SC sessions. I also didn't spend $4K on it either.
Hey, just came across this video as im literally picking up components for my new PC build. In a couple of days the new ryzen cpus are coming, so im going with MoBo: B650E AORUS ELITE X AX CPU: AMD 9800X3D GPU: nVidia 4080 Super, will change it for 5080 in Q1-Q2 next year Which 2x32GB Ram to choose? I have G skill 6400mhz CL32 in mind for now. Thanks
So would my 32gb 6000 mhz need tuning for a 7950x3d and a 4090.....sometimes it gets tanked to 24fps in areas. In space it runs around 100 to 120 fps engines on.
@gamedaytoday1 amd as far as ive read wont work still with over 6000 mhz....ive seen people get 64 and 7200 working but its hard....im not that experienced
@@djirate052380 Every AMD cpu I have tested, 7700x, 7800X3D, 9700X and 9800X3D have done 6400mhz. It is more common than you think. Also its no point running 7200 you will get worse performance
my 9800x3d and 4090 generally have some crap performance in this game. my ram is 6400mhz and i have the same problem as the guy with the 14900kf. this is the ONLY game i have a problem with performance so i'd say ya its pretty poorly optimized
that is interesting. i couldnt figure out what my problem is and i have a similar set up to ollie. figured the game could only run smoothly on medium settings but if its my ram bottle necking that is something id have never thought of and i deserve it for going cheap on the ram lol
To me, this video recommendation is less about tuning and more about "go buy better RAM". Unfortunately, this cannot be done in some cases without buying a new motherboard first. Not everyone will have the disposable income to upgrade their PCs every few years when the latest tech is available.
He is recording the video, and using a second PC to stream. I am recording the video as well having OBS in the background losing 5% FPS and CapframeX in the background as-well.
Are you sure you play on the same settings as the other streamer does? From the clips taken it seems you're using a different one (based on the different sizes of text of the display info), maybe also upscaled or the like. Sure, using more potent RAM Dimms for sure can make an impact though this also requies overclocking your CPU which may degrade faster and/or leave your system unstable or even harm components on the long run, as the I9-13900k has an upper "natural" transfer rate of 5600 MHz.
I7700k @4.6Ghz; 32gb ddr4@3200mhz, samsung 980 (secondary drive that has sc on it), rtx2070 @4k and i run at 25-30fps (not at max settings i admit that, but stil...)
So I'm looking to do the 14900k, apex encore with a 8000mhz kit but which kit would you go for ? the Team T-Force Xtreem 48GB DDR5 8000 or the Patriot 48GB Viper Xtreme 5 DDR5 RGB 8000
Sadly it doesn't seem you having the same graphics settings. His plane has way more light illumination than yours and the light is different. I think his settings are different than yours.
At Orison on location where u have been, i have 119,6fps on hard locked 120fps settings...with 7800x3d, 4080 underclocked and 32gb 6000cl30 stock timings...
I'm running an 8700k, 32GB 3200mhz ddr4, and an RTX 3090 and even I average 40 to 50 fps. GPU hits around 80% utilization and CPU is running around 90% utilization.
2:24 these performance dips have nothing to do with simulation at all. It is the displays. All the ship displays are currently still running on the original CryEngine UI tech, which is based on flash. Yes, Adobe/Macromedia Flash, which is a cool 28 years old. CIG's in-house developed replacement for that is called building blocks and will hopefully begin to be rolled out to ship displays with the Master Modes update in 3.23.
Tuned RAM is indeed very important for Star Citizen but every Star Citizen player, considering buying a new PC or new CPU should wait for the new Zen 5 CPUs. 8800X might be 25-40% ahead of 7800X and with tuned RAM even far ahead of the 7800X3D.
I would wait for a Zen 5 X3D chip rather than the first Zen5 they release Lots of ppl hit that issue last time, that the first couple of chips in the series are not the best and they hold them back until later down the line to sell more
@@0Metatron Game Day already showed that the vanilla Chip with higher clocks and max tuned RAM can be faster than the X3D variant. Because the X3D variant has lower clocks.
@@nightspiderx1916 they always have lower clocks, the Zen 4 ones do as well but that doesn’t stop them performing much better in most games because of the way they utilise 3D vcache
Very impressive ! I have a kit of FF3D532G7200HC34ADC01 (A-die checked) on a MSI z790 Carbon Wifi. Do you think possible to attempt the 8200Hhz with a 14900kf or the motherboard is not enough stronger?
could this help my 12600k not bottleneck my 4080 so much in sc? I have the 5600mhz corsair vengeance kit, and my gpu basically is never getting utilized more than 50-60% :( basically same performance as the 3070 i had before i got a pretty good deal for a used 4080 Unfortunately i can’t upgrade my cpu for now as im thermally limited in the itx case i got with only a 140mm aio
You would need to overclock the memory and CPU. I made a video about it here: Star Citizen 5800X vs 5800X3D + RTX 4090 Unlocking Maximum FPS! ua-cam.com/video/vYaCB8Zi9vU/v-deo.html
I'm about 1 minute in and I can tell you it is his memory speed. I switched from a 5900X to a 5800 X3D and didn't notice any increase in FPS until I noticed that my machine turned off my XMP. Turning on XMP I was able to get 135 FPS in the middle of space. That's with the 3080 and and 32gb @ 3200 MHz and a ship that was powered on. No idea why a gamer would go Intel when the 3D chips are by far the fastest overall gaming chips.
I tried explaining how DDR4 CL16 3600mhz ram was faster than DDR5 CL40 5600mhz ram, and they'd need CL32 7200mhz ram to equal the same speed as the DDR4, to a star citizen player recently, and I'll never try to do that again lol. I'm currently playing 4.0, and have a low of 40-70 fps in stations and on the ground, and a high of 120-160 in atmo/space, and i'm running on last gen hardware. 5950x 4.8ghz all cores. 64gigs of 4200mhz cl16 ram. (I get the sweet spot is 3800. but i got better performance with 4200.) 3090. But one thing that i did, was move the game over to my secondary m.2, even though it's not as fast as my primary, but that frees up the read/write lanes without getting interference with my OS or any programs running off my C drive.
You dont tune a computer by switching out hardware....thats upgrading it. So do you have a video showing us how you get double the FPS that everyone else with the same hardware is getting?
@@gamedaytoday1 Thank you, can you maybe explain why that is just so i can further understand how to maybe look out for that on certain websites for pre builts. Again thank you for the reply

Nice Content. I'm struggling with my RAM on Z690 ROG Maximus Hero with 13900K. I use Trident Z5 7600 32GB but only 7000 seems stable, do you think with manual tuning more is possible? How to start?
ok i dont feel so bad now. I just got a new monitor and have been running the game in 4k and was only getting 50-60fps with my rig while in and around lorville, orison etc. 7950x, 7900xt, 64gb ddr5 in expo running at 6000. Granted I havent messed with anything. I havent touched my gpu/cpu clocks or even played around with my game settings yet.
I have almost the same as Olli has! 13900k, 64gb (4x16gb) 6200 MHz Corsair Dominator (stable at 5600 MHz), Strix Z790 egaming, Strix RTX 4090. But stable RAM at 8200 MHz are very rare and not supportet on every Z790 Board
I get over 80-200+(depends on the area) FPS with a 7950X3D, 64gigs DDR5 6000 CAS 30 EXPO ram and a 7900XTX, I was watching Olli43's video also and cringing a bit wondering how a 4090 wasn't beating my 7900XTX maxed out at 1440p ultrawide (very high settings).
Unfortunately in 2021, thanks to Covid, I was only able to put together a “stripped down” system Many things weren't available, so I had to go with an AMD 3800X and a 3070 and a Gigabyte MB that only accepts a maximum of 4200MHz OC ram sticks what can I expect? I get 50-120 fps depending on the location
Some critical information is lacking. 1: Display resolution & refresh rate for both of you may differ. 2: AMD frame generation (frame rate doubling) turned on? Probably. RAM speed _does not make this much of a difference. Ever._
Sounds like it was always unstable and the latest patch just put more stress on the system to reveal it. Worth trying again with higher voltages or other timing, would not know the exact issue without testing. @@ToddyS

Im upgrading my cpu from 9900k to 12700k just for star citizen. 9900k does fine with my other games. In star citizen, I am averaging 35fps with the 9900k.
Why does the ram need to be that much faster than the cpu, theres no cpu thats doing 8000 mhz so why you need RAM thats doing twice that speed? Everything nrrds to be processed through CPU so the CPU will just be a bottleneck and the extra speed in the RAM over thr CPU wont be of use?
Damn the difference is so big in this game when you tune the ram. Thanks for sharing. I wonder us amd users that cannot do that high oc on ram how is the performance compared lol. I think max oc on ram with amd cpu is like 6000mhz?
just had some "fun" today - - - 417.FPS - - - Max´ed settings at 5120x1440p When to space, floated outside my ship and about 800m away from it, checked F4 / 3rd person view, and wopti.. 400-417FPS 5950X + 7900XTX + 64GB 3600mhz Memory + WD 850X 2GB Gen4 Nvme. ( but had AMD Fluid Motion 2 activated )
I'll add a few comments. My laptop has a 13900HX and 64 GB ram but it's only running 5200 mhz it gets about 47 fps @ 1440p (yes you need more than 32 GB, you will top out at about 33 or 34) My regular rig is due for an upgrade but has a 10850K at 5.3 all core with DDR4 memory running at 4260 mhz (which is roughly 8500 mhz in DDR5) It also has a 4090. I run 4K vsync because that's what I like. After everything settles down, it runs a solid 60 FPS with the CPU at 85% and the GPU at 60-80%.. So yes, I agree memory speed is very important for Star Citizen. It's the main reason I overclocked my memory to 4260. Still sourcing parts for my upgrade, which will be a fully water cooled 14900k with 8000 mhz memory and a 4090. o7
It's crazy to see that a $2000 GPU is struggling to put up a solid 60 FPS at 1440p, even with the inefficiencies. The 'good one' isn't doing much better in many instances, sometimes barely getting over the 60.
hi i have an i9 and a 4090 i hit really good fps on other games .i don't believe it's just down to hardware and optimization on sc. the game seriously doesn't know how to allocate resources
Yeah DDR4 is completly different. DDR5 clocks higher yes but the timings are also almost double so the performance difference is less than you would think.
Only reason I ran intel is I got my I9 for free cause I wrote the troubleshooting doc figuring out the problem and they were like Well shit thanks for the fix! you can keep the new cpu free
completly agree, i have over tuned my i7 4770k, i had a 1070, but now im suing a 3070 (its still DDR3 ) and i'm doing fine... for an 8 year old pc, if i had the coin i would buy an upgrade :P but kinda don't ned to yet. i don't care about Frames unless sit drops below 25, then its a lil painful and i have to do support roles :P
Yeah this is why I consulted my friend on this cause I also play star citizen I am doing an amd build but that aside I wanted a crucial p3 for myself and was gonna give it to my sibling i'm glad I consulted my friend with 10yrs professional pc building & fixing experience and he told me it was the worst nvme I could buy due to the fact it had no Dram meaning when it passes 600GB of storage used the performance will drop off, he actually reccomended me the same NVME your using the 2TB WD_Black SN850X and for now I'm getting a B550-F wifi gaming before december if I can (which trust me is better than the pcie 3.0 a520m-k prime I have now) the b550-f will be replaced next year i'm going more top end i'll be giving this one to my stepdad who currently has the same mb and cpu I do (a mistake on my part one I intend to rectify) it's all make do though I already got a -ROG Strix 4070Ti OC Edition (12GB 192-bit yeah I know i'm gonna suffer with high res texture settings in games like doom) i've tweaked it a bit! -Rog Strix Hyperion Case which I intend to utilise fully everything else is make do for now (64GB 3200Mhz Kingston RAM, 5600X and a decent dual fan heatsink for it's 4.6Ghz boost) I start saving after It to get the components ready for next years upgrade First I plan to get the NVME you mentioned after I get this new motherboard I'm gonna use it for now as my primary games drive since it's far faster than the crucial mx500 i'm using for SC right now! my next order is some PCIE 5.0 ram (for the new, new mb) I once I get all the new upgrades I might wait till the new CPU warranty runs out before I OC with AMD Expo and just keep it at a lower Mhz cause sadly theres a warranty that voids all 9000 cpu's if you go above the considered stable ram of 5400mhz meaning if anything happens to it 1-2-3 yrs down the line you can't get it fixed or replaced, yeah they didn't put that on the brochure did they? to any non techs out there using the higher speeds that what the mb and cpu state stability they take no responsibility for anything overclocked why put it on the the packaging (well that's your catch 22 do your research) I plan to get a 9000 series havent decided which I'm leaving both the motherboard and cpu till last at the latter end of the year so I can do the major upgrade all at once, but mainly because they're the most expensive I got alot of saving to do before then and I wanna wait till 1. we see any issues they might have and 2. the pricing will probably go down if I wait! also kinda wanna do my research more because I do both gaming but also streaming and video editing so i'm torn between 9000X and 9000X3D chips cause games like star citizen love that L3 cache but the regular X is better for productivity! My motherboard is specific I'm getting a ROG Strix Crosshair x870E Hero originally it was just gonna be a X870E-E gaming because I only knew about the extra 20GB/s usb-c support for my hyperion case's front port and that alone wasn't worth the extra estimate of £200 but then I found out that the hero has 2x reinforced PCIE 5.0 Ready GPU x16 sockets I was like "say what now?" so for me at least the future proofing that I could get a 5000 or maybe wait a gen and get 6000 series and have it run on this motherboard I was like yup that's the one! as for NVME like I said the WD_Black SN850X 2TB is great for gaming top of gen 4 around 7000 but I plan to do something spicier and something that might need a fan specifically for games like SC so i plan to go balls to the walls for it you see both motherboards I was considering both have 2x80mm PCIE 4 but they also have 2x80MM PCIE 5 NVME slots and even 1x110mm PCIE 5 NVME (honestly not sure where i'd find the long boy i'm not sure pcie 5 ones even exist yet but ya know future proofing I guess) yeah you heard right either motherboard I choose I got 5 nvme slots! more in reply vvvv if you like the sheer chapter i'm writing right now I like to babble
Now the funny thing is I'm not rich my GPU took me 8 months to save for, the case took me 3-4 (I also got a good deal waiting for a 1 day price drop on amazon saved me like £100-150) every component I am saving for... slowly I am not loaded I had to ration myself and budget my food at £50 a week in this economy when all online groceries were going up and bus fares were too expensive! I didn't get lucky, I didn't get a large sum, I was just patient... and the thing is about a patient person is there is nothing that can stop us from achieving our goals we are opportunists and will play the long game... 5 yrs ago I had a msi RX580 8GB and a Ryzen 3 2200G on a a320m-k motherboard... then one day I said no skimping out but I slowly save bit, by bit, by bit... and through my patience cutting off other luxuries like fancy foods, I was able to get to this part a more than half decent pc with a decent gpu and pc case (the luxury cut off has also made me better eat and I now see my abs because I stopped eating when not exercising and eat more when I am it helped me figure that out at least indirectly) I didn't just do it for me, I did it to prove a point lack of unlimited money is an excuse I did this to show guys like me that if you have the patience and tolerance and temperament theres nothing stopping you but yourself... some small income is required I get some wont have it... but youtube is almost free if you don't count internet costs... it's a learning tool use it to learn anything you need any skills: cooking, coding, crafting, woodwork, DIY, survival camping in literally any environment (love ya matthew posa), and of course PC hardware and building tutorials I learned alot and I mean alot sat here doing nothing I learned to do something so even when I am being lazy i'm not being lazy because I soak up everything I can to the best of my ability i'm always learning and I never stop and YTubers teach it in a way that's far easier to learn than doing some crappy paper exam they show you how! I know I still got alot to learn heck just the other day was the nvme incident glad my friend helped me long before we bought any, my point is maybe talk to ollie if you don't want people to make these mistakes you or I as someone who is more knowing when it comes to tech we got a gift and people wont learn ya know teach a person to fish and all that! if ollie is informed on it if he hasn't seen this already maybe just show him then maybe give him advice or some links on how to do it himself, but keep this vid up cause it does still help others who don't know alot of people outside our techie circles don't realise building pc's is fun, surprisingly modular and easy to learn to install & upgrade these days and lastly it's more often than not cheaper that retail! my sibling had their laptop die I did warn them about a new laptop especially around that time due to reports of corners cut due to covid having an effect on production quality of electronics also laptops don't generally last as long as a desktop across the board unless they actually was careful she got one of those lenovo legion 5's and yeah I did say the components were good like the gpu and cpu were up to spec... but I never said about the mb and even much to my surprise it hadn't even reached warranty run out time of 2yrs before everyone with a legion 5 seemed to be experiencing the same motherboard failure (a specific transistor sited as the problem) they wanted to charge her £500 for repair we said at that price & the fact any replacement will likely do the same thing in 2 yrs (she couldn't get free repair because she removed the warranty sticker not knowing what it was) so I said frick it lets get something that will last! she wanted to get a fancy pc on scan but it would of been £1600 and due to her income they wouldn't let her do it on credit so... I got her roughly the same components better gpu though and it comes in around £1512 not much lower but keep in mind the better components instead of a 7000 series she's getting a 9600X, asus TUF gaming a620-m plus and a 32Gb of RAM keep in mind she's not gonna be playing SC her most demanding game is fortnite on epic settings so rather than a rog 4070ti oc just a TUf Gaming 4070 OC edition and a 1000W gold Gaming tuf PSU if she ever did wanna upgrade the current case could be an issue since she's borrowing my old build for now and slowly upgrading it into the new one and well it may not be a ti but the 4070 tuf oc is just as big as my gpu and sadly my old case is an msi vampiric o11c ryzen and the 40 series are absolutely frikkin huge if your pc case isn't a wide atx mid tower at least then your gonna run into the gpu cable issue or the cpu heatsink issue you see the 40 series are more of an eatx kinda gpu especially the rog versions.... so at 13 plus inches it barely fit in that case but the more troubling thin was the cards width if I had put the glass on the case it would of cut off the 12 pin connector at the wrapped part near the base that you should never flex 12 pin connectors are notorius for burning issues and those 90 degree adapters were just as dangerous! so to avoid this issue entirely with my sisters gpu I am buying a cooler master V3 kit which is a vertical gpu mount it can fit most cases even ones with none vertical capabilities and it comes with the 4.0 riser cable this means the atx connector will not be bending at glass but be aiming upwards the gpu mount can be adjusted in length to fit even large or small gpus and it can be adjusted further in or further out so as long as theres enough room you should leave a gap both behind the gpu on it's shelf (btw some gpu got holes in the back to let some heat out the back the shelf has holes) and most importantly leaving a gap between the gpu fans and the glass so it doesn't choke... i'm considering getting one myself but with that new mb I might not need one myself besides I got the rgb herculx it would be wasted if I got a vertical mount now! go for your dreams frick everyone who says you can't (within legal reason) and save up and invest and if you don't have the skills the internet is a big place if you don't know where to look theres even yt vids for that! heck theres even vids on how to use the search bar the right way to get what your looking for (asking the right questions with the right language usage is also a learnable skill) now don't take everything to heart those of us in the tech sector of youtube know about the whole verge incident a long long time ago where a rookie somehow got greenlit to build a pc not his fault was the channel creators though so make sure if you know someone tech savvy or if you don't try to find one preferably less opinionated than me i'm a team red cpu fanboy and a rog fanboy but it's useful if you got a friend more knowledgeable pick their brains about stuff they like introducing new people to the scene! that being said my post here isn't gonna help many because I have just realised if your here it probably means your already doing all that and probably pretty tech already so the very few minute amount who have stumbled into this from their YT reccomended I.... hope this helps? ignore the rest it's the ramblings of ASD and severe ADHD apparently!
This great video demonstrates that Star Citizen heavily relies on memory bandwidth, highlighting its poor optimization for both previous and current hardware. The x3D model AMD cpus stand out as an exception due to their larger on-chip cache, which helps mitigate the impact of lower bandwidth compared to higher-clocked DDR5 systems. 13900KF + DDR5 8200 MHz 131 GB/s 14900KF + DDR5 5600 MHz 89.6 GB/s 7800X3D + DDR5 6000 MHz 96 GB/s
Due to AMD's FCLK limit at 2000mhz the 7800X3D at 6000Mhz is limited to 64GB/s (2000*32) The larger cache only helps in low demanding areas such as in space where it print massive FPS. From testing I can say that increasing GB/s scales pretty linar until 7200Mhz (105.6 GG/S) then memory latency starts to play a big role to gain more performance. Then after that frequency starts to matter.
Not a lot fps with 4090 and in 2k maybe 4k fix it but here is a bottleneck in ram and cpu I almost have same fps with tuned bios 7800x3d 64gb @6000 32-38-38-96 rtx 3060 but in 1080p as Olli43 shows

Star Citizen runs like a dream.
TBH while Star Citizen is currently CPU limited it is much more likely to be bottlenecked by GPU in future as they are moving a ton of the workload onto the GPU with the Vulkan renderer and other engine improvements coming this year.

@@meowmeow2759 That’s because star citizen relies heavily on CPU based physics, AI, projection, ect and right now the render thread is slow. A lot of people don’t even use good enough RAM with good speed/capacity/latency/rank there’s a bandwidth limit to meet and latency to lower

fast ram indeed helps, but to be honest Star citizen should not be such a perf hog, after all when u damage your ship all it does to the ship is to replace the undamaged ship model with a damaged ship model, it does not even have a real time damage model where the ship model actually crumbles like in a cad software.
Wtf 7200mhz is $100.00 now? It was $500.00 when I first bought a kit of A-die back in late 2022 on Newegg. There’s literally no excuse for having terrible ram then, that is cheap af
I don't have a similar system, not even close, but AFMF does some magic with my RX6800, OC memory to iirc 3433mhzw and just CL17, so not the best of memory OC, but not the worst and an ancient 2700x is getting similar fps to that Novatech build. 900 Dollar Build at todays prices. ;-) 1000 Dollar build with the much better 5800x3D which I still need to install. And don't be fooled, for FPS combat, you 100% do not want just Fake Frames to boost up the smoothness because it's all just looking smooth but the underlying fps issues can still be felt when playing with mouse and keyboard, but for flying with joysticks ... seems absolutely fine to go with 60-90 fps native and just boost with with AFMF for smooth looking gameplay.
no, it is to do with the motherboard, yes silicon lottery of the imc does play a role, but not when it comes to 5600 vs say over 7600. even my 12700k hits 7800 on an z790 itx 12 layer mobos (msi z790i edge). if u have an 4 dimm 6layer board, then forget about going over 7200. 6800 is a struggle for many atx 6layer boards.

There are too many people who just choose components based on their likings of manufacturers - never listen to those people. Never buy a prebuilt. They short change the customer so they can increase profits. It's so easy to put together a great pc these days. Tons of information out there. You don't need to wait for the next greatest thing either. I put together a new pc in November 2023. At 4K, max settings, it gets 80 to 200+fps. No need to get more than 32G memory for Starcitizen. The most I've seen it use is 29. The cpu and gpu never get close to 100%. I did go with the fastest memory that was compatible with my motherboard. Don't just go with the highest DDR speed, get the best timing you can. As for the install drive I'd go with a PCIe 4 M.2. I was tempted to go with a PCIe 5, but didn't due to the cost increase.
@@gamedaytoday1 Because the games FPS can be severely affected by a slow populated server. If I am on a server by myself I am getting insane FPS but if I am on a server with 100 people many areas like planets are laggy and low FPS. It is incredibly hard to do this type of test in SC because of the huge variation in experience due to the servers themselves not being optimized and so severely affected by traffic and server bugs.
@@realWorsin do you know why a populated server impacts your clients (PC) performance? If you answer the question correctly, then you would know why this test is comparable. You can definitely add a 5% margin of error, to this results. But you’re not saying that so… Two things can be true at the same time. In this case a truth is a tuned pc drastically improves the FPS in star citizen whether the server is populated or not.
@@alessandromenegollo7957 OEM sellers not enabling XMP profiles, or selling PCs with the most generic RAM on the market aside, there shouldn't be a 50% FPS boost. it's the game itself rn. right now there are some issues with game RAM leaking in 3.24 which have been Band-Aid-ed for 4.0 where the game is using 25GB+ of RAM. it almost looks like CIG is trying to cache as much as they can into RAM as a optimization workaround. ok for people with 64GB+, but not so much for people with 32GB. although, could be along the same lines as the 8GB GPU issue that's happening. if you have a 8GB 80 or 90 the higher clocks can power through the textures, but, if you have slower clocks, it just doesn't. 12GB just handles the shaders and textures better at the slightly slower clocks. would be interesting to test underclocked 8GB 80s and 90s
There are a lot of games were you see 30%+ improvement especially new games on using Unreal Engine 5, like Stalker 2. Pretty much any game where people complain that its unoptimized. Also if the game uses more RAM (non-cache usage) guess what? Faster ram speeds help.
@@gamedaytoday1 yeah, so, this is why Gen 3+ SSD should be required. because the call times from HD to RAM or vRAM. which themselves are being hardware optimized to send data directly to/from. CIG seems to be optimizing game by treating PCs like consoles and loading RAM full like AMD's Resizable Bar GPU feature. i know this because my PC has 32GB at 4000mhz and i'm hovering at 30GB with nothing else open, so someone with 16GB 3200mhz wouldn't be able to load into PU otherwise. my frames should mostly be tanking because of my 8GB 6600, which is a different case. they seem to not GAF about optimizing having things like working settings. also doesn't help with background recording.
So, your test is made using a OC Teamgroup from 7200 to 8200, but you also shared a link to a memory kit with 8200 from factory, Patriot Viper Xtreme 5, I'm looking for buying this same Patriot kit, but with 24GB instead, would the performance be the same as your OC one?
The 48GB is M-die and the 32GB is A-die. It does not matter too much but what is most important is the motherboard you pair it with. YOu need a 2Dimm board to be able to get the frequencies you want. If you have a 4 Dimm board you are never reaching those frequencies the most affordable board is ASRock | Z790I Lightning WiFi. So if you pari the 48GB + the ASRock | Z790I Lightning WiFi you are good to go to achieve 8200Mhz or more
@@gamedaytoday1 Thanks, yeah I'm aware of the MB, I was worried about the performance of the memory, if it would be bad for me to buy an 8200, in this case the patriot in particular. Thanks, I'll take that one, having issues with my RAM at the moment on SC.
Sorry to be negative, but lot of red flags here. There isn't enough data or control to determine causation. In general, faster clocked memory should result in higher framerates but not the framerates differences shown here. There are too many unknowns to say whether the builder did a poor job on the settings/configuration or there are a combination of other factors. And really, how many people have a 1440p monitor that's got over 144hz refresh without significant other drawbacks? Also, what is the tick rate of Star Citizen? Super high refresh rates can be problematic for the game. Lastly, Star Citizen is getting better, but every time you log in, performance and stability are a crap shoot, so this kind of comparison is largely pointless. I wouldn't make any purchasing decisions off of this video or off of Star Citizen performance.
@gamedaytoday1 I agree with the general premise, and I apologize if that came across as dismissive as you are extremely knowledgeable, but I feel comfortable standing by my statement. I think the comparison here detracts from the excellent work you have done in other videos like the one you referred me to.

Should've mentioned Ollie in the title, maybe he just doesn't know how much he's bottlenecked and it would help him to get higher fps

2:24 these performance dips have nothing to do with simulation at all. It is the displays.
The 'good one' isn't doing much better in many instances, sometimes barely getting over the 60.
i dont think its the gpu struggling to hit 60, its the cpu
ua-cam.com/video/0SDzi-ql-C4/v-deo.htmlsi=8gK3ilMyA0NUt6j7
youre wrong about the simulation the issue is the MFDs, go into third person and watch all the FPS come back.
hi i have an i9 and a 4090 i hit really good fps on other games .i don't believe it's just down to hardware and optimization on sc. the game seriously doesn't know how to allocate resources
This is true
They're working on the infrastructure as we speak
Theyve been working on it since 2012 as we speak..
I only have DDR4 tuned up to 4000 right now Maybe I'll try messing with overclocking to see if I can get it till like 4500 or something
What are your timings?
Yeah DDR4 is completly different. DDR5 clocks higher yes but the timings are also almost double so the performance difference is less than you would think.
Only reason I ran intel is I got my I9 for free cause I wrote the troubleshooting doc figuring out the problem and they were like
Well shit thanks for the fix! you can keep the new cpu free
completly agree, i have over tuned my i7 4770k, i had a 1070, but now im suing a 3070 (its still DDR3 ) and i'm doing fine... for an 8 year old pc, if i had the coin i would buy an upgrade :P
but kinda don't ned to yet.
i don't care about Frames unless sit drops below 25, then its a lil painful and i have to do support roles :P
Yeah this is why I consulted my friend on this cause I also play star citizen I am doing an amd build but that aside I wanted a crucial p3 for myself and was gonna give it to my sibling i'm glad I consulted my friend with 10yrs professional pc building & fixing experience and he told me it was the worst nvme I could buy due to the fact it had no Dram meaning when it passes 600GB of storage used the performance will drop off, he actually reccomended me the same NVME your using the 2TB WD_Black SN850X and for now I'm getting a B550-F wifi gaming before december if I can (which trust me is better than the pcie 3.0 a520m-k prime I have now)
the b550-f will be replaced next year i'm going more top end i'll be giving this one to my stepdad who currently has the same mb and cpu I do (a mistake on my part one I intend to rectify)
it's all make do though
I already got a
-ROG Strix 4070Ti OC Edition (12GB 192-bit yeah I know i'm gonna suffer with high res texture settings in games like doom) i've tweaked it a bit!
-Rog Strix Hyperion Case which I intend to utilise fully
everything else is make do for now (64GB 3200Mhz Kingston RAM, 5600X and a decent dual fan heatsink for it's 4.6Ghz boost) I start saving after It to get the components ready for next years upgrade
First I plan to get the NVME you mentioned after I get this new motherboard I'm gonna use it for now as my primary games drive since it's far faster than the crucial mx500 i'm using for SC right now!
my next order is some PCIE 5.0 ram (for the new, new mb) I once I get all the new upgrades I might wait till the new CPU warranty runs out before I OC with AMD Expo and just keep it at a lower Mhz cause sadly theres a warranty that voids all 9000 cpu's if you go above the considered stable ram of 5400mhz meaning if anything happens to it 1-2-3 yrs down the line you can't get it fixed or replaced, yeah they didn't put that on the brochure did they? to any non techs out there using the higher speeds that what the mb and cpu state stability they take no responsibility for anything overclocked why put it on the the packaging (well that's your catch 22 do your research)
I plan to get a 9000 series havent decided which I'm leaving both the motherboard and cpu till last at the latter end of the year so I can do the major upgrade all at once, but mainly because they're the most expensive I got alot of saving to do before then and I wanna wait till 1. we see any issues they might have and 2. the pricing will probably go down if I wait! also kinda wanna do my research more because I do both gaming but also streaming and video editing so i'm torn between 9000X and 9000X3D chips cause games like star citizen love that L3 cache but the regular X is better for productivity!
My motherboard is specific I'm getting a ROG Strix Crosshair x870E Hero originally it was just gonna be a X870E-E gaming
because I only knew about the extra 20GB/s usb-c support for my hyperion case's front port and that alone wasn't worth the extra estimate of £200 but then I found out that the hero has 2x reinforced PCIE 5.0 Ready GPU x16 sockets I was like "say what now?" so for me at least the future proofing that I could get a 5000 or maybe wait a gen and get 6000 series and have it run on this motherboard I was like yup that's the one!
as for NVME like I said the WD_Black SN850X 2TB is great for gaming top of gen 4 around 7000 but I plan to do something spicier and something that might need a fan specifically for games like SC so i plan to go balls to the walls for it you see both motherboards I was considering both have 2x80mm PCIE 4 but they also have 2x80MM PCIE 5 NVME slots and even 1x110mm PCIE 5 NVME (honestly not sure where i'd find the long boy i'm not sure pcie 5 ones even exist yet but ya know future proofing I guess) yeah you heard right either motherboard I choose I got 5 nvme slots!
more in reply vvvv if you like the sheer chapter i'm writing right now I like to babble
5 yrs ago I had a msi RX580 8GB and a Ryzen 3 2200G on a a320m-k motherboard... then one day I said no skimping out
but I slowly save bit, by bit, by bit... and through my patience cutting off other luxuries like fancy foods, I was able to get to this part a more than half decent pc with a decent gpu and pc case (the luxury cut off has also made me better eat and I now see my abs because I stopped eating when not exercising and eat more when I am it helped me figure that out at least indirectly)
I didn't just do it for me, I did it to prove a point lack of unlimited money is an excuse I did this to show guys like me that if you have the patience and tolerance and temperament theres nothing stopping you but yourself... some small income is required I get some wont have it... but youtube is almost free if you don't count internet costs... it's a learning tool use it to learn anything you need any skills: cooking, coding, crafting, woodwork, DIY, survival camping in literally any environment (love ya matthew posa), and of course PC hardware and building tutorials
I learned alot and I mean alot sat here doing nothing I learned to do something so even when I am being lazy i'm not being lazy because I soak up everything I can to the best of my ability i'm always learning and I never stop and YTubers teach it in a way that's far easier to learn than doing some crappy paper exam they show you how!
I know I still got alot to learn heck just the other day was the nvme incident glad my friend helped me long before we bought any, my point is maybe talk to ollie if you don't want people to make these mistakes you or I as someone who is more knowing when it comes to tech we got a gift and people wont learn ya know teach a person to fish and all that!
if ollie is informed on it if he hasn't seen this already maybe just show him then maybe give him advice or some links on how to do it himself, but keep this vid up cause it does still help others who don't know
alot of people outside our techie circles don't realise building pc's is fun, surprisingly modular and easy to learn to install & upgrade these days and lastly it's more often than not cheaper that retail!
my sibling had their laptop die I did warn them about a new laptop especially around that time due to reports of corners cut due to covid having an effect on production quality of electronics also laptops don't generally last as long as a desktop across the board unless they actually was careful she got one of those lenovo legion 5's and yeah I did say the components were good like the gpu and cpu were up to spec... but I never said about the mb and even much to my surprise it hadn't even reached warranty run out time of 2yrs before everyone with a legion 5 seemed to be experiencing the same motherboard failure (a specific transistor sited as the problem)
they wanted to charge her £500 for repair we said at that price & the fact any replacement will likely do the same thing in 2 yrs (she couldn't get free repair because she removed the warranty sticker not knowing what it was) so I said frick it lets get something that will last!
she wanted to get a fancy pc on scan but it would of been £1600 and due to her income they wouldn't let her do it on credit so... I got her roughly the same components better gpu though and it comes in around £1512 not much lower but keep in mind the better components instead of a 7000 series she's getting a 9600X, asus TUF gaming a620-m plus and a 32Gb of RAM keep in mind she's not gonna be playing SC her most demanding game is fortnite on epic settings so rather than a rog 4070ti oc just a TUf Gaming 4070 OC edition and a 1000W gold Gaming tuf PSU if she ever did wanna upgrade
the current case could be an issue since she's borrowing my old build for now and slowly upgrading it into the new one and well it may not be a ti but the 4070 tuf oc is just as big as my gpu and sadly my old case is an msi vampiric o11c ryzen and the 40 series are absolutely frikkin huge if your pc case isn't a wide atx mid tower at least then your gonna run into the gpu cable issue or the cpu heatsink issue you see the 40 series are more of an eatx kinda gpu especially the rog versions.... so at 13 plus inches it barely fit in that case but the more troubling thin was the cards width if I had put the glass on the case
it would of cut off the 12 pin connector at the wrapped part near the base that you should never flex 12 pin connectors are notorius for burning issues and those 90 degree adapters were just as dangerous!
so to avoid this issue entirely with my sisters gpu I am buying a cooler master V3 kit which is a vertical gpu mount it can fit most cases even ones with none vertical capabilities and it comes with the 4.0 riser cable this means the atx connector will not be bending at glass but be aiming upwards the gpu mount can be adjusted in length to fit even large or small gpus and it can be adjusted further in or further out so as long as theres enough room you should leave a gap both behind the gpu on it's shelf (btw some gpu got holes in the back to let some heat out the back the shelf has holes)
and most importantly leaving a gap between the gpu fans and the glass so it doesn't choke... i'm considering getting one myself but with that new mb I might not need one myself besides I got the rgb herculx it would be wasted if I got a vertical mount now!
go for your dreams frick everyone who says you can't (within legal reason) and save up and invest and if you don't have the skills the internet is a big place if you don't know where to look theres even yt vids for that! heck theres even vids on how to use the search bar the right way to get what your looking for (asking the right questions with the right language usage is also a learnable skill)
now don't take everything to heart those of us in the tech sector of youtube know about the whole verge incident a long long time ago where a rookie somehow got greenlit to build a pc not his fault was the channel creators though so make sure if you know someone tech savvy or if you don't try to find one preferably less opinionated than me i'm a team red cpu fanboy and a rog fanboy but it's useful if you got a friend more knowledgeable pick their brains about stuff they like introducing new people to the scene!
that being said my post here isn't gonna help many because I have just realised if your here it probably means your already doing all that and probably pretty tech already so the very few minute amount who have stumbled into this from their YT reccomended I.... hope this helps?
ignore the rest it's the ramblings of ASD and severe ADHD apparently!
13900KF + DDR5 8200 MHz 131 GB/s
14900KF + DDR5 5600 MHz 89.6 GB/s
7800X3D + DDR5 6000 MHz 96 GB/s
Due to AMD's FCLK limit at 2000mhz the 7800X3D at 6000Mhz is limited to 64GB/s (2000*32)
The larger cache only helps in low demanding areas such as in space where it print massive FPS.
From testing I can say that increasing GB/s scales pretty linar until 7200Mhz (105.6 GG/S) then memory latency starts to play a big role to gain more performance. Then after that frequency starts to matter.
Not a lot fps with 4090 and in 2k maybe 4k fix it but here is a bottleneck in ram and cpu

I hope this comes to the attention of Olli43 and they fix his PC and he does a new performances video
TBH while Star Citizen is currently CPU limited it is much more likely to be bottlenecked by GPU in future as they are moving a ton of the workload onto the GPU with the Vulkan renderer and other engine improvements coming this year.
Now for the mind blowing reveal - my system is an 8-year old Novatech with AMD Ryzen 7 1800X, 32GB DDR4 @ 2400MHz, and an MSI GTx1080 with 8GB DDR5 (not even a Ti) ... and the whole system is stock with no tuning or overclocking, I get very similar frame rates to Olli in the video.
No you totally not whit those specs..
@@Zombiesmokerdon't bet your pocket money on it.
what a surprise +50% ram speed, give somewhat 50% fps :D
Speed isn’t the only factor you could have 8200 but have worse performance
u could, but most likely not@@user-hq9fp8sm8f
95% of games this wouldn't happen, but for SC it does and for such a high end PC it was such a missed important item
@@user-hq9fp8sm8f yes I'm well aware
Intel needs that high speed memory but you don't on the AMD Ryzen which prefers lower CAS.
What graphic settings?

fast ram indeed helps, but to be honest Star citizen should not be such a perf hog, after all when u damage your ship all it does to the ship is to replace the undamaged ship model with a damaged ship model, it does not even have a real time damage model where the ship model actually crumbles like in a cad software.
Wtf 7200mhz is $100.00 now? It was $500.00 when I first bought a kit of A-die back in late 2022 on Newegg. There’s literally no excuse for having terrible ram then, that is cheap af
5800x , 2060 6 GB, 32 GB 3600 MHz, 980 pro ssd . . . running 2k with 1% lows around 10 - 32 frames ;-D
so how do you turn your machine? With the hardware you have?
I will share a DDR5 Tuning Guide in my discord soon
Please turn your engines off when you land for the love of god
I don't have a similar system, not even close, but AFMF does some magic with my RX6800, OC memory to iirc 3433mhzw and just CL17, so not the best of memory OC, but not the worst and an ancient 2700x is getting similar fps to that Novatech build. 900 Dollar Build at todays prices. ;-)
1000 Dollar build with the much better 5800x3D which I still need to install.
You hit the silicone lottery on your 13900kf memory controller to get 8200mhz, that's not a common speed for most. Good video.
no, it is to do with the motherboard, yes silicon lottery of the imc does play a role, but not when it comes to 5600 vs say over 7600. even my 12700k hits 7800 on an z790 itx 12 layer mobos (msi z790i edge).
if u have an 4 dimm 6layer board, then forget about going over 7200. 6800 is a struggle for many atx 6layer boards.

Wow I get the roughly the same frames as ollie on 4k lg c2 4090 12700k @5.2 with ddr4 3800mhz lol wtf
Your test literally means absolutely nothing without being able to replicate all of the exact same conditions including the server that you were on.
Why do you think that?
But you’re not saying that so…
Two things can be true at the same time. In this case a truth is a tuned pc drastically improves the FPS in star citizen whether the server is populated or not.
RAM frequency shouldn't have this much of an impact on performance
In modern systems (DDR5) it does
@@alessandromenegollo7957 OEM sellers not enabling XMP profiles, or selling PCs with the most generic RAM on the market aside, there shouldn't be a 50% FPS boost. it's the game itself rn.
right now there are some issues with game RAM leaking in 3.24 which have been Band-Aid-ed for 4.0 where the game is using 25GB+ of RAM. it almost looks like CIG is trying to cache as much as they can into RAM as a optimization workaround. ok for people with 64GB+, but not so much for people with 32GB.
although, could be along the same lines as the 8GB GPU issue that's happening. if you have a 8GB 80 or 90 the higher clocks can power through the textures, but, if you have slower clocks, it just doesn't.
You need to get better to landing your ship 😂
You are wrong on every point you have made watch my controlled video here: ua-cam.com/video/CITlrdWsaWE/v-deo.htmlsi=ciq_dlU5R77d2tbB
