      i have a 7800X3D and a 4080 super. with the same ship in space, power off, i get 300fps. engines on 210fps. (32gb ddr5-6000, 1440p)
Edit: in Lorville 60fps. but it depends on the clouds. the 4080 super can't handle those as good as a 4090

Should've mentioned Ollie in the title, maybe he just doesn't know how much he's bottlenecked and it would help him to get higher fps

  • @cpt.tombstone

The drop in fps when powering up the ship is caused by the MFDs. They are still using Adobe Flash for the UI instead of the Building Blocks system CIG built. Flash is notoriously inefficient with resources, and the more MFDs you have, the worse the performance impact gets. Newer ships with only two MFDs are much better in this regard, but there is still an fps impact. Also, the HUD itself can also cause performance issues sometimes, but those are usually bugs, squashed quickly.

Are you sure you play on the same settings as the other streamer does? From the clips taken it seems you're using a different one (based on the different sizes of text of the display info), maybe also upscaled or the like. Sure, using more potent RAM Dimms for sure can make an impact though this also requies overclocking your CPU which may degrade faster and/or leave your system unstable or even harm components on the long run, as the I9-13900k has an upper "natural" transfer rate of 5600 MHz.

2:24 these performance dips have nothing to do with simulation at all. It is the displays. All the ship displays are currently still running on the original CryEngine UI tech, which is based on flash. Yes, Adobe/Macromedia Flash, which is a cool 28 years old. CIG's in-house developed replacement for that is called building blocks and will hopefully begin to be rolled out to ship displays with the Master Modes update in 3.23.

I'll add a few comments. My laptop has a 13900HX and 64 GB ram but it's only running 5200 mhz it gets about 47 fps @ 1440p (yes you need more than 32 GB, you will top out at about 33 or 34) My regular rig is due for an upgrade but has a 10850K at 5.3 all core with DDR4 memory running at 4260 mhz (which is roughly 8500 mhz in DDR5) It also has a 4090. I run 4K vsync because that's what I like. After everything settles down, it runs a solid 60 FPS with the CPU at 85% and the GPU at 60-80%.. So yes, I agree memory speed is very important for Star Citizen. It's the main reason I overclocked my memory to 4260. Still sourcing parts for my upgrade, which will be a fully water cooled 14900k with 8000 mhz memory and a 4090. o7

Yeah this is why I consulted my friend on this cause I also play star citizen I am doing an amd build but that aside I wanted a crucial p3 for myself and was gonna give it to my sibling i'm glad I consulted my friend with 10yrs professional pc building & fixing experience and he told me it was the worst nvme I could buy due to the fact it had no Dram meaning when it passes 600GB of storage used the performance will drop off, he actually reccomended me the same NVME your using the 2TB WD_Black SN850X and for now I'm getting a B550-F wifi gaming before december if I can (which trust me is better than the pcie 3.0 a520m-k prime I have now)
the b550-f will be replaced next year i'm going more top end i'll be giving this one to my stepdad who currently has the same mb and cpu I do (a mistake on my part one I intend to rectify)
    it's all make do though
    I already got a
-ROG Strix 4070Ti OC Edition (12GB 192-bit yeah I know i'm gonna suffer with high res texture settings in games like doom) i've tweaked it a bit!
-Rog Strix Hyperion Case which I intend to utilise fully
everything else is make do for now (64GB 3200Mhz Kingston RAM, 5600X and a decent dual fan heatsink for it's 4.6Ghz boost) I start saving after It to get the components ready for next years upgrade
First I plan to get the NVME you mentioned after I get this new motherboard I'm gonna use it for now as my primary games drive since it's far faster than the crucial mx500 i'm using for SC right now!
my next order is some PCIE 5.0 ram (for the new, new mb) I once I get all the new upgrades I might wait till the new CPU warranty runs out before I OC with AMD Expo and just keep it at a lower Mhz cause sadly theres a warranty that voids all 9000 cpu's if you go above the considered stable ram of 5400mhz meaning if anything happens to it 1-2-3 yrs down the line you can't get it fixed or replaced, yeah they didn't put that on the brochure did they? to any non techs out there using the higher speeds that what the mb and cpu state stability they take no responsibility for anything overclocked why put it on the the packaging (well that's your catch 22 do your research)
I plan to get a 9000 series havent decided which I'm leaving both the motherboard and cpu till last at the latter end of the year so I can do the major upgrade all at once, but mainly because they're the most expensive I got alot of saving to do before then and I wanna wait till 1. we see any issues they might have and 2. the pricing will probably go down if I wait! also kinda wanna do my research more because I do both gaming but also streaming and video editing so i'm torn between 9000X and 9000X3D chips cause games like star citizen love that L3 cache but the regular X is better for productivity!
My motherboard is specific I'm getting a ROG Strix Crosshair x870E Hero originally it was just gonna be a X870E-E gaming
because I only knew about the extra 20GB/s usb-c support for my hyperion case's front port and that alone wasn't worth the extra estimate of £200 but then I found out that the hero has 2x reinforced PCIE 5.0 Ready GPU x16 sockets I was like "say what now?" so for me at least the future proofing that I could get a 5000 or maybe wait a gen and get 6000 series and have it run on this motherboard I was like yup that's the one!
as for NVME like I said the WD_Black SN850X 2TB is great for gaming top of gen 4 around 7000 but I plan to do something spicier and something that might need a fan specifically for games like SC so i plan to go balls to the walls for it you see both motherboards I was considering both have 2x80mm PCIE 4 but they also have 2x80MM PCIE 5 NVME slots and even 1x110mm PCIE 5 NVME (honestly not sure where i'd find the long boy i'm not sure pcie 5 ones even exist yet but ya know future proofing I guess) yeah you heard right either motherboard I choose I got 5 nvme slots!
more in reply vvvv if you like the sheer chapter i'm writing right now I like to babble

Now the funny thing is I'm not rich my GPU took me 8 months to save for, the case took me 3-4 (I also got a good deal waiting for a 1 day price drop on amazon saved me like £100-150) every component I am saving for... slowly I am not loaded I had to ration myself and budget my food at £50 a week in this economy when all online groceries were going up and bus fares were too expensive!
I didn't get lucky, I didn't get a large sum, I was just patient... and the thing is about a patient person is there is nothing that can stop us from achieving our goals we are opportunists and will play the long game... 5 yrs ago I had a msi RX580 8GB and a Ryzen 3 2200G on a a320m-k motherboard... then one day I said no skimping out
but I slowly save bit, by bit, by bit... and through my patience cutting off other luxuries like fancy foods, I was able to get to this part a more than half decent pc with a decent gpu and pc case (the luxury cut off has also made me better eat and I now see my abs because I stopped eating when not exercising and eat more when I am it helped me figure that out at least indirectly)
I didn't just do it for me, I did it to prove a point lack of unlimited money is an excuse I did this to show guys like me that if you have the patience and tolerance and temperament theres nothing stopping you but yourself... some small income is required I get some wont have it... but youtube is almost free if you don't count internet costs... it's a learning tool use it to learn anything you need any skills: cooking, coding, crafting, woodwork, DIY, survival camping in literally any environment (love ya matthew posa), and of course PC hardware and building tutorials
I learned alot and I mean alot sat here doing nothing I learned to do something so even when I am being lazy i'm not being lazy because I soak up everything I can to the best of my ability i'm always learning and I never stop and YTubers teach it in a way that's far easier to learn than doing some crappy paper exam they show you how!
I know I still got alot to learn heck just the other day was the nvme incident glad my friend helped me long before we bought any, my point is maybe talk to ollie if you don't want people to make these mistakes you or I as someone who is more knowing when it comes to tech we got a gift and people wont learn ya know teach a person to fish and all that!
if ollie is informed on it if he hasn't seen this already maybe just show him then maybe give him advice or some links on how to do it himself, but keep this vid up cause it does still help others who don't know
alot of people outside our techie circles don't realise building pc's is fun, surprisingly modular and easy to learn to install & upgrade these days and lastly it's more often than not cheaper that retail!
my sibling had their laptop die I did warn them about a new laptop especially around that time due to reports of corners cut due to covid having an effect on production quality of electronics also laptops don't generally last as long as a desktop across the board unless they actually was careful she got one of those lenovo legion 5's and yeah I did say the components were good like the gpu and cpu were up to spec... but I never said about the mb and even much to my surprise it hadn't even reached warranty run out time of 2yrs before everyone with a legion 5 seemed to be experiencing the same motherboard failure (a specific transistor sited as the problem)
they wanted to charge her £500 for repair we said at that price & the fact any replacement will likely do the same thing in 2 yrs (she couldn't get free repair because she removed the warranty sticker not knowing what it was) so I said frick it lets get something that will last!
she wanted to get a fancy pc on scan but it would of been £1600 and due to her income they wouldn't let her do it on credit so... I got her roughly the same components better gpu though and it comes in around £1512 not much lower but keep in mind the better components instead of a 7000 series she's getting a 9600X, asus TUF gaming a620-m plus and a 32Gb of RAM keep in mind she's not gonna be playing SC her most demanding game is fortnite on epic settings so rather than a rog 4070ti oc just a TUf Gaming 4070 OC edition and a 1000W gold Gaming tuf PSU if she ever did wanna upgrade
the current case could be an issue since she's borrowing my old build for now and slowly upgrading it into the new one and well it may not be a ti but the 4070 tuf oc is just as big as my gpu and sadly my old case is an msi vampiric o11c ryzen and the 40 series are absolutely frikkin huge if your pc case isn't a wide atx mid tower at least then your gonna run into the gpu cable issue or the cpu heatsink issue you see the 40 series are more of an eatx kinda gpu especially the rog versions.... so at 13 plus inches it barely fit in that case but the more troubling thin was the cards width if I had put the glass on the case
it would of cut off the 12 pin connector at the wrapped part near the base that you should never flex 12 pin connectors are notorius for burning issues and those 90 degree adapters were just as dangerous!
so to avoid this issue entirely with my sisters gpu I am buying a cooler master V3 kit which is a vertical gpu mount it can fit most cases even ones with none vertical capabilities and it comes with the 4.0 riser cable this means the atx connector will not be bending at glass but be aiming upwards the gpu mount can be adjusted in length to fit even large or small gpus and it can be adjusted further in or further out so as long as theres enough room you should leave a gap both behind the gpu on it's shelf (btw some gpu got holes in the back to let some heat out the back the shelf has holes)
and most importantly leaving a gap between the gpu fans and the glass so it doesn't choke... i'm considering getting one myself but with that new mb I might not need one myself besides I got the rgb herculx it would be wasted if I got a vertical mount now!
go for your dreams frick everyone who says you can't (within legal reason) and save up and invest and if you don't have the skills the internet is a big place if you don't know where to look theres even yt vids for that! heck theres even vids on how to use the search bar the right way to get what your looking for (asking the right questions with the right language usage is also a learnable skill)
now don't take everything to heart those of us in the tech sector of youtube know about the whole verge incident a long long time ago where a rookie somehow got greenlit to build a pc not his fault was the channel creators though so make sure if you know someone tech savvy or if you don't try to find one preferably less opinionated than me i'm a team red cpu fanboy and a rog fanboy but it's useful if you got a friend more knowledgeable pick their brains about stuff they like introducing new people to the scene!
that being said my post here isn't gonna help many because I have just realised if your here it probably means your already doing all that and probably pretty tech already so the very few minute amount who have stumbled into this from their YT reccomended I.... hope this helps?
ignore the rest it's the ramblings of ASD and severe ADHD apparently!

This great video demonstrates that Star Citizen heavily relies on memory bandwidth, highlighting its poor optimization for both previous and current hardware.
The x3D model AMD cpus stand out as an exception due to their larger on-chip cache, which helps mitigate the impact of lower bandwidth compared to higher-clocked DDR5 systems.
    13900KF + DDR5 8200 MHz 131 GB/s
    14900KF + DDR5 5600 MHz 89.6 GB/s

      @gamedaytoday1  Місяць тому +1

Due to AMD's FCLK limit at 2000mhz the 7800X3D at 6000Mhz is limited to 64GB/s (2000*32)
The larger cache only helps in low demanding areas such as in space where it print massive FPS.
From testing I can say that increasing GB/s scales pretty linar until 7200Mhz (105.6 GG/S) then memory latency starts to play a big role to gain more performance. Then after that frequency starts to matter.

I don't have a similar system, not even close, but AFMF does some magic with my RX6800, OC memory to iirc 3433mhzw and just CL17, so not the best of memory OC, but not the worst and an ancient 2700x is getting similar fps to that Novatech build. 900 Dollar Build at todays prices. ;-)
1000 Dollar build with the much better 5800x3D which I still need to install.
And don't be fooled, for FPS combat, you 100% do not want just Fake Frames to boost up the smoothness because it's all just looking smooth but the underlying fps issues can still be felt when playing with mouse and keyboard, but for flying with joysticks ... seems absolutely fine to go with 60-90 fps native and just boost with with AFMF for smooth looking gameplay.

no, it is to do with the motherboard, yes silicon lottery of the imc does play a role, but not when it comes to 5600 vs say over 7600. even my 12700k hits 7800 on an z790 itx 12 layer mobos (msi z790i edge).
if u have an 4 dimm 6layer board, then forget about going over 7200. 6800 is a struggle for many atx 6layer boards.

Never buy a prebuilt. They short change the customer so they can increase profits. It's so easy to put together a great pc these days. Tons of information out there. You don't need to wait for the next greatest thing either. I put together a new pc in November 2023. At 4K, max settings, it gets 80 to 200+fps. No need to get more than 32G memory for Starcitizen. The most I've seen it use is 29. The cpu and gpu never get close to 100%. I did go with the fastest memory that was compatible with my motherboard. Don't just go with the highest DDR speed, get the best timing you can. As for the install drive I'd go with a PCIe 4 M.2. I was tempted to go with a PCIe 5, but didn't due to the cost increase.

If I am on a server by myself I am getting insane FPS but if I am on a server with 100 people many areas like planets are laggy and low FPS.
It is incredibly hard to do this type of test in SC because of the huge variation in experience due to the servers themselves not being optimized and so severely affected by traffic and server bugs.

right now there are some issues with game RAM leaking in 3.24 which have been Band-Aid-ed for 4.0 where the game is using 25GB+ of RAM. it almost looks like CIG is trying to cache as much as they can into RAM as a optimization workaround. ok for people with 64GB+, but not so much for people with 32GB.
although, could be along the same lines as the 8GB GPU issue that's happening. if you have a 8GB 80 or 90 the higher clocks can power through the textures, but, if you have slower clocks, it just doesn't. 12GB just handles the shaders and textures better at the slightly slower clocks. would be interesting to test underclocked 8GB 80s and 90s

YOu need a 2Dimm board to be able to get the frequencies you want. If you have a 4 Dimm board you are never reaching those frequencies the most affordable board is ASRock | Z790I Lightning WiFi.

Sorry to be negative, but lot of red flags here. There isn't enough data or control to determine causation. In general, faster clocked memory should result in higher framerates but not the framerates differences shown here. There are too many unknowns to say whether the builder did a poor job on the settings/configuration or there are a combination of other factors. And really, how many people have a 1440p monitor that's got over 144hz refresh without significant other drawbacks? Also, what is the tick rate of Star Citizen? Super high refresh rates can be problematic for the game. Lastly, Star Citizen is getting better, but every time you log in, performance and stability are a crap shoot, so this kind of comparison is largely pointless. I wouldn't make any purchasing decisions off of this video or off of Star Citizen performance.
