God, you’re so insufferably stupid.
I feel like I should put this here as everyone seems to have a problem with the whistle. This isn't a "rape whistle". It is a survival whistle. Some animals are scared off by the whistle, some won't be. Each animal is different there, but that's not the only purpose of the whistle. The sound of the whistle carries a lot better than your voice does, and is unmistakeable as to what it is. It effectively alerts other people that you are in distress. Say you slip off a trail and become injured, a survival whistle is a great aid in helping people locate you, and is far easier on your throat than trying to constantly shout at the top of your lungs; something that will quickly tire you out.
Even in this video, another hiker arrives right at the end, who no doubt heard her whistle and probably picked up his pace to find out who was in distress ahead of him. Nobody ever claims it's a miracle fix; it should not be your only defense against wildlife. But it is a useful tool that every hiker should carry.
No..they smelled the fear

That whistle pitch was close to an animal in distress? Like a screaming rabbit this broad almost called the bear in with that dumb whistle! That is a dog whistle or to catch the ear of a human? A sidearm with bear spray is what is in order!

because cameraman never dies, it's a well-known survival technique
I’m pretty sure most people would record. If I die at least there is a video of me showing I tried. Using one hand or two isn’t going to stop a bear from attacking you. The yelling and the whistle is what confused the bear.

Bear: if I could only get a dollar for every roar that a human yelled at me…
What a scary and dangerous creature. The bears on the other hand seemed chill
Yes this forever ❤❤❤❤
High-pitched sounds are a No-No when encountering a bear. They resemble distress calls and can indicate injury or vulnerability to an aggressive bear triggering an aggressive reaction.

@Martin199320 wow!
You clearly see in the video that what you are saying is wrong. In the video the bears dont know what the whistle sound is, they look around as if they wonder what that is. A bear that doesnt know something is either curious or scared, but not agressive.

@Tone58 Your beliefs are sickening. Animals can't be "murdered" because they aren't human. Fishing isn't murder, and never is cutting down a tree or making a hamburger. People belong wherever they have the ability and desire to go. You don't get to dictate where they go. The world can be dangerous, and people can die in nature. @@CowgirlDreams3290the bear didn't look like she was going to attack. If the bear was downwind, she didn't smell the woman. She did do right.
I was alone and encountered a mama and two cubs in the High Sierra. She was downwind and I came around a switchback where a creek crossing was hidden by brush until right upon it. There she was Getting some water. I backed way up the trail and waited until I saw her following the creek up the mountain.
She is lucky it wasn’t a Grizzly. Black bears are less aggressive in the defense of their cubs.
The bear wanted to use the trail. It was clearly not going to hurt the woman, shouting and whistling did not change the original intent of the bear.
Are we sure that’s what happened? Didn’t think the mama bear wanted to attack, but was curious what was going o once she heard the noise. Did the noise really help? Wish an expert would weigh in.

Go back to China
I do understand why she was scared. The trail was very narrow and the mountain is steep. To me, it looked like the mother bear was curious more than anything. She wasn't upset or defending her cubs. And she seemed to want to walk on the trail. Glad the lady was fine. I often see tracks of various animals when I hike in the local mountains. They prefer to walk on the trails as it is easier.
A predator's mood can change from curious to man-eater in the blink of an eye.
@@The_DC_Kid Bears in the San Gabriel mountains see people all the time. They also like to come down into the suburbs and sit in pools and hot tubs. This isn't an area where people are rare. And few bears ever eat people. They attack to protect like other mammals.

I live in LA County and I'm aware that thousands of Rattlesnakes live here as well. I used to hike on trails and fire roads pretty often but never saw or heard one, except for the day I saw two and heard another while on a two-hour hike. Made we wonder how many times I was within a few feet of one but I just didn't notice. One of Mountain Lions' favorite hunting tactics is to wait in the undergrowth near a game trail (or ANY sort of path or road) and suddenly spring out and grab an animal or human. not a brown bear - we dont have them in CA, its a black bear with brownish fur (common) and much much less dangerous than a brown bear. This woman is also not "facing off" with anything, the bear and its cub are merely following a trail that this woman happens to be on....all she has to do is pick up the pace a bit and they'll probably leave her alone.....they appear to be more curious and the strange noises she is making than anything else
..."Much less dangerous than a brown bear..." ARE YOU KIDDING?!! Do some research before spouting off and pretending to be a bear expert. Black bears are deadly dangerous! They not only will maul you, they will be happy to EAT YOU ALIVE! Brown bears will maul you until they're convinced you no longer pose a threat. If being attacked by a brown bear, interlock your fingers around the back of your neck while laying face down and playing dead. You have better odds of surviving in that horrible situation than if a black bear gets a hold of you... They are more likely to treat you as a special dinner treat.
Best advice... When in bear country, carry a large caliber firearm... It's much more effective than a whistle, or little bells sewn to your jacket, or bear spray. In lieu of a firearm, consider bringing along someone that you know you can outrun😊

That mama bear wasn’t even threatening, she was just curious. Keep calm, and walk away.
Never turn your back and walk away back away slowly and still face the bear you should be loud not screaming because this can remind them of a small hurt animal and trigger prey drive speak loudly to them. This was a mother and a cub getting any closer could have put her into defensive mode sows with cubs are very protective and actually one of the most dangerous types of bear encounter is a sow with cubs backing away is the best move but if they charge you should stay still be as loud as you can make yourself big and hope it's a bluff charge and you're not becoming dinner hopefully this woman had bear spray too
In the beginning of the video, you can see the mama bear charging at her. That was not a calm bear, she was ready to go into attack mode to protect her cubs. The girl did the right thing by yelling and slowly walking backwards. It was what stopped the bear's attack mode and confused it, because she became unsure whether or not the human was stronger than her.
@@luminouspositivity3243 Yes but it was kind of an instinct charge the second the bear saw the woman. Then stopped to assess the danger and seemed to be pretty chill lol
She did so well out there and kept calm enough to follow the advice - not to turn your back to the predator/run and to make noise so the animal questions the risks/energy needed re an attack. Predators want efficient kills and this one also had cubs so was going to be even more cautious about instigating an uncertain attack. This lady created that uncertainty. I honestly don't know how people in the States cope with large wildlife so nearby - I think I'd be running in groups only, but that's just me!
I got news for you, lady: To a bear, you don't sound scary. You just sound tasty.
No bear spray no gun? Why is it people think they can go anywhere and be safe all the time? It’s not your backyard it’s nature..
Because she’s a girl boss with a whistle…
California gun laws
And running
It’s his home and if your an avid hiker it should not surprise you to RUN into a bear especially in the Foothills of La Verne.
It’s not a boar, it’s a sow (female).
its sierra madre, and the bears are not native
after the first scream the bear thought oh jezus a housewife
This dum dum recording it and drawing more attention screaming and whistling. She should have ran like hell after she lost them in her sight around the FIRST bend.
Bear had to get by. Wasn't attacking or running, just simply needed the same path. Steep terrain vs. groomed trail; albeit with weird screamy things lol
Plot twist. The man followed her to harm. The bear came to rescue and fought off the man in the end.
Holy. Good thing she didn’t start running
