Paramedic here, there are way more important things for first aid than a splint. Quick clot, emergency thermal blanket, trauma shears, cpr mask, gloves, tourniquet, stethoscope, are in mine. I also have a blood pressure cuff and a needle for decompression for lungs but i don’t recommend those for others. Sam splint is needed, but all of the above take priority.
Agreed, you can make a makeshift splint out of sticks and Paracord or tape. For the amount of space those SAM splints take up, you could definitely add more useful gear. Personally, I would rather carry a couple compression bandages in my kit (and do).
Can't go wrong with being prepared. $30 or less is great, you don't always need the most expensive stuff. When it comes to survival, whatever works is your best gear.
Oh and secondly... I ve been itching to get my hands on one of those wazoo hats. If you treat the canvas with a tinning oil (like obenauf's leather treating oil) you can water proof it and further protect the gear in your stash cap. Up here in the soggy Pacific Northwest it's almost a must!
I've got a cheap chinesium cook kit similar to the UST. My favorite feature is that I can nest my DIY bush stove (wood gassifier) as well as my DIY trangia stove inside as well as a little bit of tinder. Mine also came complete with a handy mesh bag that I typically throw a couple small travel bottles of alcohol and the ole hobo spoon in. It really makes for a great compact, grab n go bush kitchen. In fact I made a similar set for my boys....excellent combo
I almost always learn something new when watching your videos, Chris. In fact, I am now reminded how deficient my BOB is when it comes to first aid/medical gear. It is time to change that. Well done on this video with regard to the theme, as I need to be mindful of costs.
Some very good gear here especially for the price. I definitely rely on some of these for my kits. A couple of my favorites are the Wazoo Fire Necklace, SAM Splints and of course any and all BOSS Kits. Thanks for sharing brother.
The terava jakaripukko is the best piece of gear shown in the video in my opinion. The modified Scandinavia grind is so easy to sharpen and cuts like a beast.
Another great video great gear for under 30 I'm on a tight budget like most people so thus was helpful definitely going to be checking out that survival fishing rig thanks for the helpful information.
Good video. Recommend investing in a higher quality primary blade. I need a blade that will last longer than a couple days of hard use then fall apart. Fixed blades tend to be designedfor this role versus folders. Pay more for quality and only buy it once. A sharpened 90 degree spine is best to assist in wood processing and fire starting. Everyone has different requirements, experience, and budgets of course.
I wouldn't recommend the Rainstick F20 to anyone who lives in a damp climate like Ireland where Im from. I ordered 4 packs last year got them shipped over to Ireland stored one pack in a bug out bag in my car, gave one back to a friend and kept other two packs on a sealed plastic container in my house,as well keeping them in their original packaging.Within 3 months all the packs had been ruined by moisture as well as the one I gave my friend.
Frickin Great! I like to put a couple of those splints in my B.O,B. I love the kurki, and those little emergency fishing and so fourth kit's... Awesomesauce...
I read about the Speedhook when it first came (American Survival Guide Magazine) out and there were two versions, the civilian and then the military which had green colored instructions, but there were the same device. I recall that it can also be used to catch birds or other small animals. The other device that which I think more people have seen and used are those reels, which are also meant to be set and operate on their own when tripped or activated by the fish. I have never used those, never even handled one, but I think the Speedhook is mechanically simpler and it's easy to understand, set, and use.
some very good ideas for a budget and even if you weren't on a budget . I use the Grabber blankets and like them very much . and plan on ordering the small ham radio and military fishing speed hook
Your videos and recommendations are awesome. My boys and I watch your videos and they get all excited and want to go out and buy all the stuff you put out lol.
nice like in your older videos keep up the good work and i have seen that you make even more content than ever so thats good keep up with it also this helps me in my boy scouts skillz xD
Nice gear brother. This is up my alley. Can't do much more than $50. You guys be safe while travelling, take your time and we'll be watching for ya at Prepper Con.
Nice video. I wish they would give us some Nutritional information for the Rainstick F2O. As a Diabetic I would like to know how much carbs I'm taking in so as to control the amount of water I drink at a time.
These are some of my favorite videos. Thanks for the ideas and tips. Question about navigation, do you have a good but budget friendly compass recommendation? Thanks.
