Right on! I was in the audience of that talk at the assembly hall in 1966. I have been working to save the Constitution since a few months before that talk. I am 83 years old and I am very tired, but still doing what I can to wake us up us to our "awful situation." I have seen victories that I believe have slowed down the demise of our Constitution, and experienced some disheartening events that comes with any effort in this battle for freedom. There are many effective ways to get involved to do your part in this battle. It is worth it. You were asked to talk on the Constitution in church?! Sign me up! I always imagined that the whole church was on board but a series of events has proven otherwise.
The Utah Area presidency sent a letter urging wards and stakes in Utah to commemorate the Constitution in some way in September and suggested centering a Sacrament meeting around Pres Oaks 2021 talk, our divinely inspired constitution. I think they did the same thing last year, and it seems people were more responsive this year. It's tricky to thread the needle of Christ-centered, "politically neutral" talk about the Constitution, and a big act of trust for the Bishop to give that as a topic to someone, but the trend it positive and I'm hopeful it will become a bit of an annual tradition.

As I read the BoM, I discover that the elevation of covenants in Mosiah 5 was precluded by a change in government to a republic. This was necessary as God does not allow the making of covenants without the ability to keep them. An oppressive government would make the keeping many of covenants very difficult if not impossible. We need a government that protects our ability to make and maintain a relationship with God.
On Fast Sunday, July 4th, 2021, while everyone in the chapel but me were wearing masks (including the bishop and SP on the stand), I was the only person to stand up and bear my testimony on the Constitution and the ideals of freedom in my ward. That told me everything I needed to know how far this church has fallen from its founding principles. If this church is still true, its in the doctrine alone. The members certainly aren't true anymore.
I was asked to give this same talk. I didn't want to sugarcoat anything, and I wanted to address the very real threats to The Constitution. I informed the bishop's counselor that I wanted to talk about the UN sustainable development goals, and how these run counter to the Constitution. I am not speaking now. My ward is not ready to hear the truth about what is happening in our country. So sad!

Great topic! What do I do to act? I home-school my six children, teach them the principles of liberty, and exercise them as far as I can without being locked in a cage. I definitely push the limits and question my "authorities." The Amish are great examples of living in liberty. They live what they teach and have figured out how to work with the government to live pretty well as they like, exercising their right to live as they choose, which is unconventional.

I know we can’t go back but I often wonder what would have happened if the founding fathers would have listen to the original host of this land and used more of their way in regards to government political and economic systems the haudenosaunee people did what they could to help the founding fathers with the constitution but they left out some important components of governance !! All I'm thinking about while you are quoting the forefathers' statements regarding the Federalist Papers, Declaration of Independence, and Constitution, is how many courthouses have had the 10 Commandments removed from their premises. How basic are the 10 Commandments for establishing basic rules for a stable society, yet the extremists of society had them removed in the name of freedom. Ironic and depressing and really shameful.
The scripture actually refers to two constitutions; the constitution of the land is the US constitution and the constitution of the people refers to the constitution of Missouri at the time. This is why God says he established the one but only suffered the other to be established.
How many were asked to speak on Open Doors to Federal Courts Day? I'm sorry, but I thought Sunday was a day to focus on God, not country. Discussing politics is important, but during church?

If the LDS people do not repent and get rid of the Idolatry supported by the criminals in church government, it will not matter if Trump wins. I don’t agree with voting being reactive. Not if you are an engaged citizen doing stuff as you mention. While not everyone can do that. But you can help and learn in other ways. So maybe they vote at the last minute but they are doing other things where they are acting to help society. This is why we can’t stay in our homes and read the scriptures.

i havent been in a ward that would even consider a talk on constitution and founding fathers in years...and ive been in many wards😢
Several of our prophets have said our constitution was inspired by God. Ezra Taft Benson called it a heavenly banner.
D&C does as well.

Read the scriptures. They might not allow it over the pulpit in front of Children, but these topics definitely get covered in the second hour.

Latter-day Saints and Evangelicals almost worship the US constitution; especially Latter-day Saints. It is unhealthy and causes allot of pain.
