Let’s all appreciate for a minute Annette for the time she was in Nightwish. Imaginaerum was one of the greatest albums I ever heard and she did an amazing job on the album.
Dark Passion Play is, for me, Nightwish’s best album. And that was the first one Annette sang on. Imaginaerium was another fantastic piece of work. Annette did brilliantly on both albums.
I do agree with you ☺️,i like Annete's voice and she made a great job with NW. I could not imagine anyone else to sung Imaginearum or DPP, Tuomas said and I agree with him completely.
ΑΝΑΣΤΑΣΙΑ ΞΑΝΘΟΠΟΥΛΟΥ couldnt agree with you more. Glad to see other people agree with me 🙂it’s just such a timeless album, don’t think I could ever get bored listening to it!
Beautiful. Anette sings this as well as Tarja sang her songs, and as well as Floor sings hers. Please stop trying to compare them all - Tuomas writes songs for their particular voices, and they are all masterpieces...
I agree, I actually love this album, it has so many aspects that make it great. So much emotion. Annette does an excellent job, just as you said...Tarja sang her songs great, Annette hers and as Floor will do with the songs Tuomas will create for her.
You are 100% correct. Three singers with three different strengths, but Tuomas has done an excellent job writing songs to take advantage of those strengths.
My grandfather recently passed away at the ripe old age of 90. Sorting through things this song came too me and i had to listen to it over and over. All the relics of a life long lived. And what a life he lived. so many amazing things he did. and now he rests from his journey.
This album contributed to bringing me out of a very dark time of my life. Tuomas has so much genius into how he writes not only the words, but the melody as well. This might be one of my all-time favorite songs.
"Nightwish keyboardist and chief songwriter Tuomas Holopainen told Metal Hammer magazine how witnessing the passing away of his grandfather inspired this ballad. He explained: "One thing that I like to do is pay a little homage to certain things that I really respect - for example, the My Dying Bride album Turn Loose The Swans is one of my all-time favourites, which is why this is called 'Turn Loose The Mermaids'. It's nothing to do with My Dying Bride other than the title, but it was born in the moment when I saw my grandfather die, and my grandmother was giving him the final message. It was one of the most emotional experiences of my life - it was so dark and beautiful at the same time. I had to make a song about it - the last thing she did was check his teeth, warm his toes, and then [say] 'Good journey my love, see you soon'. She was 93 back then, and 15 minutes after, he died. I'd never seen a dead person before, and it was an emotional moment, so I wanted to do a song about it. The album's all about life and the power and beauty of imagination, and I thought that we needed to include the final chapter of life, which is death." " says songfacts site
Not metal? This song is always in my "Heavy Metal" Mix on here, and we all know that UA-cam never lies! Right? Right guys!? But, yeah, damn good song by a brilliant band, no matter what vocalist they have up front.
This is probably my favorite from Anette ❤️❤️❤️. It's fine to prefer one singer over the other but seriously, she does not deserve any of the hate. She sang the songs written for her really, really good. Imaginaerum is a solid album.
What I love about Nightwish, and appreciate deeply, is that their lyrics are pure poetry. They make you think, imagine, cry, smile, picture everything, and still theis meaning is always deep and well thought. Eg, this song is about death, and is made in such a beautiful and mesmerising way that I don't have enough words to describe. Blessed be
She was great on the whole album, people just like to start stupid wars arguing which is the ultimate singer and maybe theres an answer for that but thats not reason to not value her work here. Scaretale def is another of her best songs
Beautiful! It feels like a walk around the world, the pipes give it a Tribal feel, then some whistling like in Westerns starts, at the end ya stop in Ireland for some Step Dancing, all meshed together beautifully!
This song is beautiful. This is among those that helped me upon my father's passing. His journey came to an end. May he now rest well. I know one day my journey will come to an end as well. For now, I'll fight as well as enjoy this journey in life while it lasts.
Yep. Tuomas said about the 3rd verse of the song is about her grandfather's death. It is when her grandmom checked his teeth and warmed his toes on his deathbed. Such a touching song.
Yemek Yiyen Sincap yeah but just because you don't like the song, doesn't mean you have to dislike the video. It's the same if you like a song. You don't have to give it a like but you can still enjoy it.
I remember listnening to this song on the last steps of the dorm leading to the roof alone while studying for my exams at uni years ago and I still can't get enough of it 😍
I'm surprised the Floor fanatics aren't here telling how this would be so much better with her. They piss on Nightwish's legacy on regular basis. Nice surprise. I ♥ ♥ ♥ THIS. I just found this.I shudder before this beautiful masterpiece.Literally.Whole body shivers.Thank you Tuomas, Anette and the greatest band on earth: NIGHTWISH.
I love Floor's live performances and she's one of the best singers in the world but her voice is too generic for studio which partially explains the problem with the last two albums. Both are great albums but they miss something special.
Those are toxic, fanatics. I am a huge Floor fan, but it is cringe to compare the singers. Personal taste and ignore the bitching about anything. We don't need to entertain the fanatics of any self proclaimed side - be it fanatics for Floor, for Anete or Tarja.
Such a beautiful song. Her voice is perfect for this type of song. Floor would do an amazing job as well. Tarja is so majestic with her voice it may drown the song. Not a criticism just an observation. Thank-you for the lyrics. Really helps to stay focused on the story and phrasing.
This is Anette? Shit. I'd only heard her voice so fragile like this in Heart Asks For Pleasure First. Her accent comes out in this well, I thought it was Tarja, but she's a much more opera-like singer.
I really hate this Anette-bashing, she's such a great singer! It's so stupid to compare her with Tarja, they are two different singers with her own beautiful voices. I don't want a copie of Tarja, she's unique, like Anette, so what's the problem?
When this album came out I was going through a very very horrible time of my life and I was contemplating suicide and I listened to this album every single day after buying it brand new and somehow these beautiful songs got me through that time and I have loved this album ever since this is one of the best heavy metal albums ever made I don't care what anybody says
This is one of the songs that reminds me of my brother's that are helping the people from the virus. Let's prey for everyone's safety most of all those whose risking their lives.
This song is beautiful. If I could I would make a video to go along with what I imagine for this song. I'll share what I have in mind the best I can. Things like this look better in ones mind than has words but here it is. 0:00-0:15 a small group of people dressed in black, walk towards a grave yard along a horse drawn carriage on a gloomy almost rainy day. 0:15-0:35 we flash back in time a few weeks and see an old homestead on a cliff or hill by the ocean. Its a beautiful setting with mountains just in the background. Just down this hill from the home is a shallow flowing river. 0:35-0:50 We find an old couple inside the home. The husband lay in bed dying from old age. His wife sits on the bed beside him reflecting on past times. 0:51-1:11 We are back outside the homestead and see the sun shinning down on the end of the river as it reaches the sea. Then at 0:57 we see all the hard work that has been done at the place and things that have been built. Then at 1:01 we see the wife telling her husband he lived his life to the full and he can rest now. 1:12-1:25 We flash forward back to the people with the horse drawn carriage as they stop at the new grave that has already been dug. 1:26- 1:42 We flash back again. The wife tells him he can rest now, and comforts him. She knows he does not have much more time as she looks out the window towards the sea. 1:42- 1:58 the rest of the family comes into the room to say there goodbyes. 1:59- 2:16 we see the river again as the sun shines on it, and more of the hard work that was done at the home. 2:17- 2:34 we see the old man, close his eyes, and enter deaths sleep. 2:35- 3:05 we flash back further in time and we see the old man and his wife and the life they went through together. We see them when there young, when there just starting to build there home. We see the children they had together. We see there children grow up and start families of there own. We see the old man and his wife as grandparents. We see the life they lived. 3:06- 3:22 We return to the grave yard with the Casket being lowered into the ground. Everyone says there final goodbyes and the old woman is the last to leave. 3:23- 3:32 we find the old woman, walking in the middle of the river towards the sea. We see she has a big smile on her face. 3:33- 3:39 we see the the old woman is actually in the house, in her chair, asleep in death. 3:40- 4:20 we see the old woman continuing to walk towards the sea as the sun beams down greatly on her and the end of the river. She walks atop the water. Shes walking faster now and is becoming more excited. Then she sees him, just ahead standing on the water. He reaches out his hand and grabs hers. They are with each other once more, and they both turn and walk into the setting sun, leaving the short river of life, and entering the vast sea.
Anette simply does not have the voice of a Tarja or Floor. BUT Imaginaerum was written for her, is an absolute epic album, and this one of the loveliest tracks. Many thanks Anette.
Shows how inspiring their music is. I have had many people overhear me playing their songs and becoming obsessed. My ex husband even got annoyed at me when I played Nemo on my headphones. After he later heard some he said, ""why did you keep this from me?""
Beautiful song. The thought of growing old and passing on is a scary one, however, the imagery within this song instills feelings of peace and acceptance. This song has a lot of meaning to me. I selected the instrumental version for my wedding. It played while I was walked down the aisle with my father. One of my dearest family members passed away shortly after the wedding, which was the last time I saw her well. I saw her a few weeks later in hospice just before she passed. The "Checked your teeth and warmed your toes" line is interesting because when she passed, one of my aunts was holding her toes and her husband was at her lips with water, keeping her hydrated. I think of her often, especially when I hear this song, but am also reminded of beautiful memories we all shared as two families became one on our wedding day. Very emotional and powerful song.
Starting at 2:34, we get to hear how the spaghetti western influenced Tuomas. Then he changes styles again. There's a reason this is my favorite Nightwish song.
When I first heard that passage, my first thought was that it sounded like an homage to _Django Unchained._ And then it smoothly transitions into a passage that could come straight out of an episode of _Firefly._
Also, there are many who would lose it if Simone Simons (Epica) joined Nightwish. I agree that all three Nightwish singers are great, but some people can't get over the differences. Oddly, I've not heard any complaints from Sabaton fans, despite the fact that there are only two original band members left. Oh well.
Anette's voice really shines in songs like this, especially in studio versions. While she has a lovely voice live shows weren't really her strength. Each singer brought their own era to Nightwish's sound especially since Taumas tends to write with the singer in mind. Amazing song with Anette's bright vocals and subtle instrumentals.
I'm starting to appreciate Annette after listening to this album. Her voice suits these kind of song and it's beautiful. Compare her with tarja and floor is unfair. Each one of them has different style of singing. And all credits to Toumas for composing songs suits to their voice. I've been a NightWish fan for more than 10 years. And i admit to feel sad everytime one of their band crew retire. But i will still introduce Nightwish to my future generations. Nowadays music is crap.
This song and "The Crow, the Owl and the Dove" have a special place in my heart. Imaginaerum as a whole is very dear to me. (Also I sometimes relate this song to "JoJo: Steel Ball Run" by Hirohiko Araki! Dunno why, maybe the western feeling inside the song!)
A song so beautiful, but underappreciated, for Tarja trolls, the voice of Anette is perfect, the fans of the band must love all 3 vocalists, so it is correct, that was and remains history and evolution
While Nightwish is still fantastic live, I feel that Floor covers Tarja's songs a lot better than the material Annette sang on. You can really hear the Celtic influence here. Annette has a majestic style all her own and she is not easy to replace either.
I'm a recent convert to Nightwish and, apart from Tarja's Phantom of the Opera, have only heard the magnificent Floor but I loved this and the beautiful singing.
Fell in love with this when it was sung in a scene of my lads play.....beautifully i may add by a very vocally endowed young lady.... beautiful piece....
Each of the Nightwish's vocalists gave her own soul to the band. Anette is amazing in this one, truly lovely, Tarja was amazing in stuff like "ever dream" and "phantom of the opera", and Floor is carving her path moving forward. I personally feel more connected to the Tarja-era nightwish, because I was introduced to the band with her as a frontwoman, that's why I like her more, it has nothing to do with the, supposed, lack of skill of the other two.
Let’s all appreciate for a minute Annette for the time she was in Nightwish. Imaginaerum was one of the greatest albums I ever heard and she did an amazing job on the album.
Dark Passion Play is, for me, Nightwish’s best album. And that was the first one Annette sang on.

Nightwish: I want my tears back!
Also Nightwish: The mermaids you turned loose brought back your tears.
PROBLEM SOLVED.
This needs more upvotes
LOL
hahah I was thinking this while I was listening to this song
modern problems require modern solutions
I did read this in the exact second when it played it the song!
In this album the songs relate to each other often. That's so cool
Beautiful. Nightwish is not a band, its an emotion.
Very well written. This describes them best. Each sing and each album is so beatiful and such emotional
Beautiful. Anette sings this as well as Tarja sang her songs, and as well as Floor sings hers. Please stop trying to compare them all - Tuomas writes songs for their particular voices, and they are all masterpieces...

Best statement ever heard :) Totally agree with you :D
All that matters is that it comes from the heart and soul of the writer to make a great song
You are 100% correct. Three singers with three different strengths, but Tuomas has done an excellent job writing songs to take advantage of those strengths.
Finally an area in the comment section where everyone appreciates all three singers!
My grandfather recently passed away at the ripe old age of 90. Sorting through things this song came too me and i had to listen to it over and over.
All the relics of a life long lived.

Same for me. It was the worst year of my life and it became one of the best. His music was part of that.
Same here
Same for me too
Tuomas wrote *much* of his music at a very dark time of his life as well.
"Nightwish keyboardist and chief songwriter Tuomas Holopainen told Metal Hammer
magazine how witnessing the passing away of his grandfather inspired
this ballad. He explained: "One thing that I like to do is pay a little

Fuck, reading that while listening to the song made me sad...
Yeah...
PkMnTrainer Bini OMG I can't even I have no words
Excuse me while I go cry in a corner...
Not metal? This song is always in my "Heavy Metal" Mix on here, and we all know that UA-cam never lies! Right? Right guys!? But, yeah, damn good song by a brilliant band, no matter what vocalist they have up front.

It's a warm summer day, and I've got chills up my whole body (and a lump in my throat). Gorgeous song.
Mika Soze Yup same here
I lost my grampa last summer, and keep coming back to this song when i think about him. I'm a grown man, i still tear up to it
Love Anette's voice in this one. Just beautiful.
Although I don't enjoy her voice as much as the others I have to admit she sounds beautiful here. Wish she sang like this more often.
She's awsome in this one
This voice is beautiful , but the voice of song of myself should be the same of this .
She was great on the whole album, people just like to start stupid wars arguing which is the ultimate singer and maybe theres an answer for that but thats not reason to not value her work here.
Scaretale def is another of her best songs
If you are a fan of this song, check out the cover by Andra Ariadna.
This song is so damn beautiful, I wish they would play it live at least once
Beautiful! It feels like a walk around the world, the pipes give it a Tribal feel, then some whistling like in Westerns starts, at the end ya stop in Ireland for some Step Dancing, all meshed together beautifully!
Annette left her print with this beautiful performance. This is my favorite song of her era.
Beautiful Annette just beautiful!! Truly a great vocalist.
One of my favorite Nightwish songs :)

This song is beautiful. This is among those that helped me upon my father's passing. His journey came to an end. May he now rest well. I know one day my journey will come to an end as well. For now, I'll fight as well as enjoy this journey in life while it lasts.
♥️
This song helps my youngest son who is a month old go to sleep n I love this song
i can't count that how many times i've listened to this song. just one word is enough. perfect. ❤
Yep. Tuomas said about the 3rd verse of the song is about her grandfather's death. It is when her grandmom checked his teeth and warmed his toes on his deathbed. Such a touching song.
When my grandma died, right before I found out, I listened to this song. Makes me cry. Every. Time.
and the song is abot death, come here and i shall give you rest - jesus christ.
how can someone dislike this masterpiece?
people tend to dislike videos without even watching or listening to them
Yemek Yiyen Sincap yeah but just because you don't like the song, doesn't mean you have to dislike the video. It's the same if you like a song. You don't have to give it a like but you can still enjoy it.
People are fucking assholes.

Envious deaf people. Other than that, I got nuthin'. :-/
Is such a beautiful song and very beautiful voice
Beautiful song! Anette has an amazing voice!!!💗💗💗
Tämä kappale on niin koskettava... beautiful, very beautiful. I like this kind of celtic songs.
This song is so beauty, makes me cry, makes me feel really happy and really sad, all emotions, i love it so much.
I remember listnening to this song on the last steps of the dorm leading to the roof alone while studying for my exams at uni years ago and I still can't get enough of it 😍
This and I Wish I Had An Angel are two of the greatest songs that Nightwish ever made!
Those my favorite songs too. You’d better check out while your lips are still red, sleeping sun, bye bye beautiful, and elan
this song is the reason behind my friend's improvement in mental health ❤❤❤
This song is soo daaaaaamn perfect
Patricia Schneider The album as a whole is perfect. I think Imaginaerum is their zenith!
Carlos Alberto R.N da Costa the two albums with Annette were two of their best for sure
this song makes me feel like i belong in this world. that's why i love it

@Kotikunnas En oo luoja, joten eipä kestä kiitellä.Pelkkä Nightwish fani riittää!
One of the few songs that are beautiful, incredible sad and nevertheless uplifting at the same time...

CountessAnnebelle Lee You mean Tuomas? 😇😁😊
I would say, the more relaxing style like in this song, is perfect for Anette. Beautiful!

People that say Anette sucked should try singing like her and then comment again.Every singer Nightwish had were unique and extremely talented.
When this album came out I was going through a very very horrible time of my life and I was contemplating suicide and I listened to this album every single day after buying it brand new and somehow these beautiful songs got me through that time and I have loved this album ever since this is one of the best heavy metal albums ever made I don't care what anybody says
This song is so mystic i have lost my mind... WOW!
This is one of the songs that reminds me of my brother's that are helping the people from the virus. Let's prey for everyone's safety most of all those whose risking their lives.
Every time I think I've heard every great nightwish song, I stumble on another one!
Annette was awesome. She didn't try to fill Taja's shoes. She blazed her own path.
Anette is my favourite out of the three Nightwish vocalists. She is very talented and has a very beautiful, almost angelic voice.
She sounds genuine. Not many singers can manage to do that without sounding agitated or fake.
I feel the same!
This song is beautiful. If I could I would make a video to go along with what I imagine for this song. I'll share what I have in mind the best I can. Things like this look better in ones mind than has words but here it is.

Thank you, that was good to read
Wow 👏👏
that was beautiful, thank you
Omg I'm crying, so beautiful. I'll always think of this now, great work!
Anette simply does not have the voice of a Tarja or Floor. BUT Imaginaerum was written for her, is an absolute epic album, and this one of the loveliest tracks. Many thanks Anette.
This is the type of music you play at the end of a film that can make you shed buckets of tears.
Anette s voice is beautiful....this song is so good:)
Once my mom heard me singing along to this in the kitchen and now I have to sing it at her funeral......
JK Quinn yikes
Shows how inspiring their music is. I have had many people overhear me playing their songs and becoming obsessed. My ex husband even got annoyed at me when I played Nemo on my headphones. After he later heard some he said, ""why did you keep this from me?""
JK Quinn dem dat feels 😢
That's crazy/coincidental since this song is inspired by one of the member's grandfather's dying.
I just imagined it and started crying
Lovely feeling of bonding here when nearly a thousand people give your comment a thumbs up! Long Live Nightwish!
Oh My God this song is really beautiful. Nightwish is really powerful band ❤
Beautiful song. The thought of growing old and passing on is a scary one, however, the imagery within this song instills feelings of peace and acceptance. This song has a lot of meaning to me. I selected the instrumental version for my wedding. It played while I was walked down the aisle with my father. I think of her often, especially when I hear this song, but am also reminded of beautiful memories we all shared as two families became one on our wedding day. Very emotional and powerful song.
I love them all....they all have their own perfect songs ....:)
True..👍
2:40 strong Ennio Morricone vibes coming in. Sounds like could be taken as or from a theme song of an italo/spaghetti western.
What a hidden jewel this song is
Best nightwish album
Beautiful. A perfect song on a terrific album.
Thank you for this one, Anette. This album fits her so well
Worth a deep listen, as someone who is approaching the end of the river...
Tarja, Anette and Floor, they r all wonderful, I don't understand why some people compared them ??...I love them XD
Good comment. They are all awesome. Each one with your talent. Unfortunately, many people compare them a lot. Nightwish forever!
Also, there are many who would lose it if Simone Simons (Epica) joined Nightwish. I agree that all three Nightwish singers are great, but some people can't get over the differences. Oddly, I've not heard any complaints from Sabaton fans, despite the fact that there are only two original band members left. Oh well.
Cẩm Thanh I agree I love 💜them a all three 💞
Me too.
Cẩm Thanh they are all different and that’s what made Nightwish so unique and special!
Anette's voice is a master piece, this is unbelievable
Goupe peu connu en France,,et pourtant une musique et des chants splendides !!!
Oui un commentaire français quel bonheur je désespérais
This is my favourite Nightwish song.♡
I love this song. Great job!
So beautiful and relaxing song!!!!
Turn loose the mermaids is a fantastic song. I really want to learn to play the violin. Believe it is beautiful
Awesome song! Love her angel voice so much!!!💜
Anette's voice really shines in songs like this, especially in studio versions. While she has a lovely voice live shows weren't really her strength. Each singer brought their own era to Nightwish's sound especially since Taumas tends to write with the singer in mind. Amazing song with Anette's bright vocals and subtle instrumentals.
Gabi M. I have heard her live, she was great
How does the song suddently turn from celtic song to wild west-song?
you're right lol
Usually their songs turn from classical to metal, and no-one wonders.
Magic
Parkour
I too would like to know
One of my favorite songs of all time.
love this song!!!
I would love Annete come back!!
The three lady's r magnificent in their own right night wish what a band 👌👌
Absolutely Beautiful
Most Beautiful Relaxing Song Its My Lullaby
LOOOOVE your username and lifelong lover of mermaids
So beautiful. There are no other words. Simply beautiful!
Such a masterpiece !!!
Heard this is like a tribute to Ennio Morricone, makes it even more beautiful
Clearly from 2:35 there is an Ennio Morricone vibe ;)
@@3l3ndil Had to do chat search for Ennio Morricone at that point :)
IMO this is one of the songs where Annett's soft voice was really shined and I don't think Floor can out-do her on this one.
This song is for Annett not for Floor.
Splendid... ✨️
I can see what you mean with this song and SBR i think it would be for a montage with everyone travelling
Is this a Jo Jo reference?!?!?
@@TerrariaGolem Everything is a Jojo reference if you try hard enough.
this song reminds me of the music in final fantasy crystal chronicles
Thanks a lot to you. It was a travel to music. You showed me Nightwish. Our love wasn't right enough but the music. Thanks a lot Andi. 🤘
A song so beautiful, but underappreciated, for Tarja trolls, the voice of Anette is perfect, the fans of the band must love all 3 vocalists, so it is correct, that was and remains history and evolution
Beautiful, found another gem in Nightwish song list, the best part at 3:22
While Nightwish is still fantastic live, I feel that Floor covers Tarja's songs a lot better than the material Annette sang on. You can really hear the Celtic influence here. Annette has a majestic style all her own and she is not easy to replace either.
True
I've grown up with nightwish and I love this song the most
I'm a recent convert to Nightwish and, apart from Tarja's Phantom of the Opera, have only heard the magnificent Floor but I loved this and the beautiful singing.
I just love it it makes me fell like i need to go somewhere like on a mountain or a river. Thanks nightwish for this song so much :)
this used to be my mom's ring tone on her phone. it's a beautiful song.
Romania love Nightwish. This song is out of this world...
Fell in love with this when it was sung in a scene of my lads play.....beautifully i may add by a very vocally endowed young lady.... beautiful piece....
God it’s been how many years since I heard this song?
Beautiful every time. I adore this band
Oh my god i have chills up, this is gorgeous and strong song! :3
Love this song!!!
This is beautiful and so far one of my favorite nightwish song
Annette Olzon is far more than the "Blaze Bayley" of Nightwish. She had some legit bangers that are purely hers, and this is one of them.
This song is magic. I cant compare it to anything else
Tarja, Annete, floor semuanya bagus
Each of the Nightwish's vocalists gave her own soul to the band. Anette is amazing in this one, truly lovely, Tarja was amazing in stuff like "ever dream" and "phantom of the opera", and Floor is carving her path moving forward. I personally feel more connected to the Tarja-era nightwish, because I was introduced to the band with her as a frontwoman, that's why I like her more, it has nothing to do with the, supposed, lack of skill of the other two.
