Tuomas, without you I would never even have touched a piano. Now I have released 4 albums and music is my life. I have a little bit of Nightwish deep down in every song of mine. You are a true inspiration, I hope to meet you one day. This song was magnificent

Tumoas is our Mozart, the sad part is that he never seems to get the recognition he so richly deserves. Smoothly blending heavy metal and classical into something greater than both, truly a musical genius.
I'm a big Nightwish fan since far back, and a Donlad Duck universe enthusiast (Carl Barks and Don Rosa) since, well, birth. Found this now.. Hit pretty hard...
Very rarely do I comment on anything but whilst i love Nightwish, Tuomas this is beyond amazing, I knew you were a musical genius but you have surpassed yourself, I listen to this nearly every day, thank you Derek
I own the graphic novel as well and I gotta say Tuomas is right. It is beyond fantastic. This is different from every single other Disney comic. In fact, forget what you thought you knew about Disney comics, about comics in general. This isn't just ' a comic' for kids and nerds. Don Rosa created something special there. You gotta realize that he has drawn the entire life of Uncle Scrooge, mixing places and persons of our real world with the Disney fiction on such a high level it is unimaginable. If you ever wondered, why the Beagle Boys became Scrooge's arch enemies, how Ducktown came to be, who his parents and siblings were, what his childhood and youth was like, when and where he earned his first million, and the things he did, discovered and experienced, the countless people he met and places he saw long before Donald Duck was even born, it is all in there. It's no comic, it's a chronicle. And a terribly sad one, a tale of countless hardships and especially losses. And Tuomas music catches that perfectly. After you read this, Mickey Mouse will apear boring and pale to you compared to Scrooge. It will change your point of view on practically everything you thought you knew about the character who is so much more than just a very rich duck.
He's a fictional character - made up - the whole Disney 'duck dynasty is'. He never existed !!!! Don't invest too much belief in a talking cartoon duck !! I worry for you.
jezkn You clearly don't understand what I mean. I worry for YOU because apparently you have no idea how much fun one can have with fictional characters. How sad. As if I'd think that it was real... No, it's obvious, you haven't read the graphic novel. Otherwise you'd understand what I wrote - that Rosa mixed reality and actual places and persons that really existed - like Pres. Roosevelt - with Disney fiction. Ah whatever. Writing this is a waste of time. You won't understand anyway.
Flingship373 Oh dear - i do seem to have pressed a button here. Sorry - I was only gently teasing. It's just that we dont have this devotion to Disney duck characters in UK so its hard for us to understand but I know you Finns are brought up on them. But yes - we do have a devotion to Hamlet - even though he's Danish not Finnish !
MioRaem Actually I do uinderstand how seriously you take these cartoon comic sagas in Finland (I didn't before hearing this Tuomas composition). You see - it would be quite impossible in UK (or even USA) to write such a wonderful and serious sounding piece as this dedicated to a Comic Disney Character, People would take the micky (pun was intended).. Hence my comment to you. But as the (extremely) passionate views on Ducksburg here show, it's revered in other parts of the world (like Finland). Why do you think the Fins (and others) have taken the Scrooge McDuck Universe and Don Rosa so much to their hearts whereas he's practically unheard of over here?.
Flingship373 Yes - great orchestration from Pip and the London choir he used too. I just hope he gets the audience reaction over here for it - but I suspect he'll be struggling sadly. (and in the USA too even though they 'hatched' Donald from a Disney egg over there!)
some people make hit songs.. some people make songs that make you want to dance.. Tuomas makes songs that tell a story..songs that have a life of their own.. I fucking love this song!!! I'm so going to buy this album
Props for Don Rosa (seriously that is a kick ass name) for coming back and doing what is probably his first big project since he left Disney nearly ten years ago. But Don Rosa we miss your fantastic artwork. Tuomas, thank you for giving the legend the theme song he deserved.
A child read a book and dreamed. Fourteen years later he completed a musical enactment to accompany the object of his fascination. What a privilege must it had been that the author witnessed it and deemed it as fitting.
Even for a cartoon/comic character. That last picture of Scrooge on the mountain fills me with emotion. I really love the stories of when he was young. People always see him as this bitter, rich man who only cares about money. That picture sums up how he got there and that behind the image of a cold hearted man is a boy who grew up, lived a life of adventure and worked to get where he is now. And he took himself time to stop and admire the auroras in the night sky :)

My word, this is so beautiful. If I told someone else who doesn't know anything about Tuomas or Nightwish that I've truly fallen in love with a mini symphony inspired by Scrooge McDuck, they'd probably just burst out laughing, assuming I was joking. Tuomas is just beyond amazing.
Standing in my Living Room at 02.00 am and can´t stop this Masterpiece. Was a Fan of The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck since i read it in my local Comics (in Germany they where printet in the Mickey Mouse Comics). If i ever met Don Rosa, i don´t want a Photo, i don´t want an Autogram i only want to say thankl you for the Joy he brought into my Heart.
I adore Tuomas Holopainen and his music since at least the early 2000s. I adore Don Rosa and his stories about Scrooge McDuck since...I don't know...a very long time. Now I adore the voice of Johanna Kurkela. Love and greetings to you all.
At first it was only music that sounded good and kept replaying in my head. Hours later i finally listened and started to wonder what this weird thing tried to say. Then i remembered the things i knew about scrooge, his first coin and his unreasonable and (financially disadvantageous) beloved adventures. Then i suddenly started to understand and listened to this song for the first time how it was meant to be listened to. It was never about the money, he also isn't really greedy. It is just that every touchable coin for him is a memory he made and it is unique. Thats the special thing about his money for him. It is not just money that can be exchanged to other money or coins. For him it is unique and that is also why he defends it with his life. Each coin is a touchable and unique memory and for him, that is his very life. Took me some time and actually made me grow. Thank you from my Heart.
I have this album, signed by Tuomas and I've met Don Rosa and he signed it as well. He also drew a Scrooge McDuck for me and this reminds me of that moment. Watching him drawing it right in front me. It was such a special moment.
This is beautiful. As a longtime Ducktales fan, I'm finally reading through 'The Life and Times with Scrooge McDuck' using this album as a backing score. That scene where he leaves the letter behind...WOW. Before Alan Young dies, I would love to see a 'Life and Times' mini-series. You can't get much more epic than matching Teddy Roosevelt in a fistfight. Also, it's wonderful to see Don Rosa in this video, especially in his moments of genuine joy and pride.

I can’t believe I never heard this song. I’ve been listening to Nightwish for 20+ years and no lie this might be the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard.
You know when you listen to a masterpiece like this that your life is better than it was and you can sense everything different, beautiful colors appears before you, and they where there before, you just couldn´t see them. Now this amazing music has opened your mind and soul. it's magic sung by an angel.
I found this album in my local record store and I had no idea who Toumas was (although I knew about Nightwish) and I had never read the Scrooge comics, but I had loved the DuckTales cartoons as a kid. So I was dumbfounded to see Scrooge McDuck in the Metal section. Had to buy it, LOVED it. Such a great album. Seeing Don Rosa smile while listening to the music is a heartwarming moment and I've gotten to love the comics now thanks to this record.
+demonizer123 Maybe it's time for them to realize the difference between loving someone and loving someone's work. I'm sure those dreams could be about someone more...obtainable.
I only discovered Nightwish a month or so ago. I'm greatly impressed by the genius of Holopainen's composing ability. I only wonder why he isn't more well known.
I'm always late to the best of things, but I'm also always glad that I discovered them anyways. Makes me happy to know there's people out there like Tuomus; that sliver of fantasy should never die within us no matter how old we are 🥺
This is a masterpiece. I'm glad I discovered it recently and have been listening to it every day since then. It's like a balm for the heart and soul. Thank you Tuomas, Johanna and the others for this wonderful piece of art.
Two of the greatest artists of all time joined. The ONLY CD I own still. Don Rosa made Scrooge Epic, what Barks only laid out in scratch. It is wonderful to read and tuomas' soundtrack does it all the justice it deserves.
My father is suffering from dementia and your lyrics tore at my ❤️...... you are a modern day Mozart, you probably don't like that tag, but by God you deserve it. Never stop!!!!
Johanna is cute and gorgeous here :-) And Tuomas is the best living composer in the world. I love everything made by him :-) From Angels Fall First to Endless Forms Most Beautiful and his solo career as well. Amazing man!
It's crazy how i tear up everytime at 4:05. I can't help it. It's a body shudder and my eyes are wet. Tuomas might be the only composer who's been able to do that to me.
That happens, when you hear something so beautiful, your heart is trying to shatter into million of pieces and your entire body is just trying to keep it together... Nightwish and Tuomas has helped me through a dark time of my life and is still keeping me together. I just wished more people would hear him and start to heal...
Toumas, Nightwish is a band filled with the best of the best talents, but if anyone was going to set off on a solo journey it should be you. Not that I'm an expert but in my book you are the top of the top when it comes to creativity and composition. May you carry on for years to come.
Toumas is truly the only one in Nightwish who is truly irreplaceable. Anyone else, including Marko and even Floor, can be replaced, and Tuomas would make it work by writing new songs that fits with whatever he has to work with.
Don Rosa's a living legend, for those who grew up with Disney. It's a shame he's almost unknown in the US...2 metal horns to Tuomas for fulfilling his dream and for honouring Rosa's life work,
Just found this today, and it made me well up. I read parts of "The life and times of Scrooge McDuck" years ago as a kid in a magazine, then got the collection (paperback, german version) as a young adult. Still have it. This song fits the story real well, and I got to go buy the CD. Seeing Don Rosa draw in the video was great, and I feel I learned a lot just by watching those few minutes. The song, the music, the mood... all great.
I feel blessed my children have this music to listen to. I am even more blessed that my daughter has The Goddess Floor to look up too. She is the true definition of a Role Model!!!
Tuomas, thank you from a dude in Canada. Your music literally fuels me to keep going every day. Your humble character and mind for music is truly inspiring
After almost three years, it's still mindblowing and incredible beautiful. I have seen both gentlemen, Tuomas Holopainen and Don Rosa, and they are real genious. And when two genious come together, is result something magical. Always loved Scrooge McDuck and Don Rosa's drawing work, but also Tuomas Holopainen's music and songwriting skills. Great work.
This is amazing. Might be the nostalgia talking. But it certainly brings back memories from my childhood reading the comic this is based of. I come back to this song a few times a year, the scenes of Don Rosa are beautiful. A friend bought this album on Vinyl and we listen to it some times. Truly a marvellous album!
This is genius... This is EPIC! (O.O) But to be honest, I don't really know any word that can truly describe this piece of amazing music. The lyrics, the melody, the visuals in the video... I can't do it. I love it. That's all I can say. ... Seriously, I think I forgot to breathe for six minutes.
Until I heard Toumas Holopainen I never understood how someone could refer to music as a friend. Thankyou, Toumas. And thankyou Finland for producing all this musical talent. I hope you always adapt to the world but stay the same.
I once hunted down a Duck Tails comic that was exclusive to Free Comic Book Day... Walked all over New York City for it for Tuomas because I thought he might like it (Ended up giving it to Marco to give to him). My dad also gave me a CD of his saxophone playing to give to him, just for his own enjoyment since he also loved his music so much (Dad was a music producer in his day, & filled in for bands like Blood Sweat & Tears; Meatloaf was probably the most thankful out of everyone dad helped. Really great person)... Music has been a very important part of our lives... My sister walked down the aisle during her wedding with a Nightwish song... This album also came out the year I stopped having seizures (sounds triggered my seizures from 2009-2014, so it was magical when I got to hear this album for the first time; Also made Jukka a drum to encourage him about his health as I started learning Native Medicine when I was sick)... Always wondered if he (they) liked their gifts... Anyways, I'm back here today listening to Tuomas's music because it's very healing... I hope my dad can still hear it (lost him suddenly last month)... Thank you Toumas, & all of Nightwish, for giving us such joy in our lives. (PS- If you still have your parents, & you have a very good relationship with them, tell them you love them every day, do things with them, before you can't anymore)

To be rich is to still remember
To treasure your first dime
To have a chance to say farewell
Story of your life
Time of solitude and strife
Freedom of an open road
Hope and many miles to go
Promises to keep
Countless gold fields to reap
To be rich is to seek
To relive the memory
Far off lands, quests of old
Self respect, true grit
Never cared of what a fortune might buy
To seek is to be rich
Story of your life
Time of solitude and strife
Freedom of an open road
Hope and many miles to go
Promises to keep
Countless gold fields to reap
To be rich is to seek
To relive the memory
All the strangers on your path
Crossroads the letters from home
The cooling embers of a yuletide hearth
All the sounds of wilderness
The truth in which you roamed
Now your lost Rosebud has brought you back home
Story of your life
Time of solitude and strife
Freedom of an open road
Hope and many miles to go
Promises to keep
Countless gold fields to reap
To be rich is to seek
To relive the memory
Story of your life
Time of solitude and strife
Freedom of an open road
Hope and many miles to go
Promises to keep
Countless gold fields to reap
To be rich is to seek
To relive the memory

Whos still here!? This is just amazing song and video!
Toumas truly is a musical genius on a level we rarely see especially in this day and age
And how lucky we are to be here enjoying this...
I am still alive in 2024. ‘Tis album is a masterpiece I listen almost daily to parts of it. Johanna’s voice is beautiful.
This still sends chills down my neck...
+jerryteacup Just your neck? Even my toes are tingling from this.
+jerryteacup +William Sonnecti My balls!
+Luke Horror Crap... Yes. Spine. Thanks.
neck can be long tooo.. so spine neck .. not bad ..
@@hamstermunchies5558 who cares about the solo, the vocals is a nuclear blast
Alan Young has passed away. Rest in Peace and thanks for the memories
Lyrics:
"To be rich is to still remember
To treasure your first dime
To have a chance to say farewell
Story of your life
Time of solitude and strife
Freedom of an open road
Hope, and many miles to go
Promises to keep
Countless goldfields to reap
To be rich is to seek
To relive the memory
Far-off lands quests of old
Self respect true grit
Never cared what a fortune might buy
To seek is to be rich
Story of your life
Time of solitude and strife
Freedom of an open road
Hope, and many miles to go
Promises to keep
Countless goldfields to reap
To be rich is to seek
To relive the memory
All the strangers on your path
Crossroads, the letters from home
The coolingembers of a Yuletide hearth
All the songs of wilderness
The truth in which you roamed
Now your lost Rosebud has brought you back home
Story of your life
Time of solitude and strife
Freedom of an open road
Hope, and many miles to go
Promises to keep
Countless goldfields to reap
To be rich is to seek
To relive the memory”
HOW CAN ANYONE DISLIKE THIS MASTERPIECE ??? TUOMAS YOU ARE A GENIUS . THIS SONG SHOULD BE IN A DISNEY MOVIE.
Listening to this after a few beers... Not ashamed to admit to tearing up a bit here.
The singer, Johanna Kurkela, is Tuomas' current girlfriend. I know I'm crushing all the female's fans of Nightwish dreams by telling you this.
+demonizer123 Maybe it's time for them to realize the difference between loving someone and loving someone's work. I'm sure those dreams could be about someone more...obtainable.
+demonizer123 he is getting married soon
+demonizer123
Well now it's wife.
+N Brown They are married now. www.seiska.fi/Viihdeuutiset/Tuomas-Holopainen-ja-Johanna-Kurkela-Avioliitto/1091525
+demonizer123 his taste is weird... I just googled her and she's creepy
I only discovered Nightwish a month or so ago. I'm greatly impressed by the genius of Holopainen's composing ability. I only wonder why he isn't more well known.
One reason is that radio stations don't like to play long songs.
@@RossNixon in the UK barely any rock at all and ZERO metal is played on radio
Earlier this week I snuck out to hike at Pallas, Lapland at 4 AM and listened to this. I highly recommend.
I'm always late to the best of things, but I'm also always glad that I discovered them anyways. Makes me happy to know there's people out there like Tuomus; that sliver of fantasy should never die within us no matter how old we are 🥺
And how great is to share your life with someone like that ❤️
Tuomas is a GENIUS.. if you havent checked it out check his other side-project AURI it has Johanna in it as main singer. also Troy is in it with them.
This guy blows my mind. Everything he does is gold.
This is a masterpiece. I'm glad I discovered it recently and have been listening to it every day since then. It's like a balm for the heart and soul. Thank you Tuomas, Johanna and the others for this wonderful piece of art.
He is amazing!
It's a masterpiece. The art, studio recordings, and the northern lights are a nice mix for a video. I hope to get this album one day.
Thomas & Johanna...
Musical perfection.
Johanna Kurkela is now the vocalist of Auri - the band which she shares with her husband Tuomas and friend Troy from Nightwish ; )
The sound they have is unique. Still amazing though
I think he is a Mozart of our times
and or Vivaldi?
He is known as the Mozart of metal for a reason
Tuomas is probably my all time favourite musician..The bloke is a genius and a master in song writing.
Two of the greatest artists of all time joined. The ONLY CD I own still. Don Rosa made Scrooge Epic, what Barks only laid out in scratch. It is wonderful to read and tuomas' soundtrack does it all the justice it deserves.
Don Rosa is one of the most underrated comic artists and the most underrated American. 😄
My father is suffering from dementia and your lyrics tore at my ❤️...... you are a modern day Mozart, you probably don't like that tag, but by God you deserve it. Never stop!!!!
i always said Tuomas Holopainen is a musical genius. His music is from another dimension. This track can be a perfect soundtrack for a movie
Johanna is cute and gorgeous here :-)
And Tuomas is the best living composer in the world. I love everything made by him :-) From Angels Fall First to Endless Forms Most Beautiful and his solo career as well. Amazing man!
*Cough* Morten Veland is better than him in a lot of aspects... And in choirs... GOSH, Veland destroys him in the vocal harmonies/choirs cathegory.
Same. He is amazing and his music has always been beyond emotional and meaningful. Awesime Lyrics as well. True poetry
Truly a celebration of Don's greatest works! ❤
Never stop composing, Tuomas!
You are a blessing to this world!
It's crazy how i tear up everytime at 4:05. I can't help it. It's a body shudder and my eyes are wet. Tuomas might be the only composer who's been able to do that to me.
My favourite part also. So emotional!
Absolutely the same, bro!
That happens, when you hear something so beautiful, your heart is trying to shatter into million of pieces and your entire body is just trying to keep it together... Nightwish and Tuomas has helped me through a dark time of my life and is still keeping me together. I just wished more people would hear him and start to heal...
Another proof that Tuomas is one of the greatest composers of this time...No matter what he does, it's great!
Metalhead all my life but this is ...... amazing. Tuomas is so fantastic. And Johannas voice is magic. Simply magic. I could drown in this voice
10.02.2024 - Just wanted to say hello and enjoy this masterpiece :)
The song, the music, the mood... all great.
This saddens me that i have just heard this in April of 2020. I truly wish Tuomas' work was popular in the usa. True music. True talent!!!
@ Jessica... Best time to hear a Tuomas song is 20+ years ago.
Second best time is now. I heard this for the 1st time now. I feel blessed.
I feel blessed my children have this music to listen to. I am even more blessed that my daughter has The Goddess Floor to look up too. She is the true definition of a Role Model!!!
I am honestly grateful they are not American and they haven't been polluted by greed!
Jessica Crabbe The important thing is that you heard it.
Yo its crazy.
1:21 my soul smiles every time I see Keno smiling like that
Tuomas, thank you from a dude in Canada. Your music literally fuels me to keep going every day. Your humble character and mind for music is truly inspiring
To the person below who asked what genre this is -
it's Ductile Metal
By ductille - do you mean it's long and drawn out?
Grannygrumbleweed Well - the piece is long and the duck is drawn out (by Rosa).
Mcductile Metal
timbooktew Ducphonic Metal
Grannygrumbleweed McDucphonic Metal
Once again Tuomas is proving his musical genius. And for that, I'm grateful. This is most likely the most beautiful thing I've ever heard.
This composition is truth and soul of western civilization...
Johanna Kurkela is marvellous!!
But...I...I.....*Cries* There's so much magic in this man's mind! Seriously!
Tuomas never ceased to surprise with his music.Another beautiful song from him.
This is such a masterpiece. Tuomas is truly a genius, he never ceases to amaze me with his work.
FATHER NIGHTWISH! YOU ARE GREAT ...
I feel it same, man.Amazing piece of work. After seeing Imaginaerum and listening to this,Tuomas is a musical genius for me.
I'm not gonna lie, this is honestly one of the best music videos I've ever seen. Also, the best homage to Scrooge McDuck and Don Rosa for all time!
Thomas, I am infinitely grateful to you. For me you are a living Mozart. Simply a genius.
I always loved Life and Times, but i never realised how much it needed a soundtrack. This soundtrack.
2 true professionals in their own genre.
There are no words to describe how amazing this song and video are.
Until I heard Toumas Holopainen I never understood how someone could refer to music as a friend.
Thankyou, Toumas. And thankyou Finland for producing all this musical talent. I hope you always adapt to the world but stay the same.
Tuomas Holopainen at his purest. I can definitely recognise his style, and his genius. Really looking forward to more!
This makes me even more happy when you find out that Tuomas and Johanna actually got married!!
Always wondered if he (they) liked
their gifts...
