I bought 2 identical pairs of blue jeans that I love (buy one get one 50% off). A "minimalist" decision is to buy only one because I needed one only. A "budgeting" decision is to buy both. I wear one and the other one still has a tag and unworn (when the jeans get ruined or worn out, I can automatically replace it).
Vartika Bhagat it depends. I only buy a certain brand and style of jeans and they‘re not produced anymore. So when I find an offer of them online I‘ll 2 no matter what because otherwise I‘ll just get them second hand - and I‘m even hunting for this style too. I just have a few jeans and rotate through them regularly so I understand why she bought two 😊
I took my prom dresses and 5 (!) Bridesmaid dresses to a high school who was asking for donations for girls who couldn't afford a nice dress for prom. I was so happy to do that and hoped that a girl found a dress to make them feel awesome for a night! I suggest finding things like that!
I have duplicates of black tank tops and I personally love it because when one is dirty I wear the other. I also use it as a bottom layer so they get a lot of use. I do understand letting go duplicates of more special occasion wear.
Yeah I wear mostly black I have 3 different black tees but two of each type it gives me less anxiety knowing if one ruins I have the other and I like them enough to know I will definitely wear it.

Love the alternative reality comment you made. How true! It got me to donate two suit jackets i haven't worn in years. Thank you. Since starting on decluttering a few month ago I've donated about 60 items of clothing, aiming to get my wardrobe down to 250 including shoes, socks, underwear.
OMG!.. The “Alternate Self” clothing! Yes, I do that!!! So often I try on clothes and think “that would look good on me if I were taller.”... and then I BUY THEM! So rediculous Lol Thank you for pointing that out
Half of my wardrobe was "if I was thinner." I purged all those items and it was actually toxic, looking at such a small pieces of clothing every day that even IF I lost weight these probably would never fit my body type anyway. I feel better now that they are gone
Oh girl I feel you!! I was 15 pounds lighter 2 years ago and kept almost all of the jeans.. now I am on a new journey to lose the 15 pounds again. But I know I won’t wear those jeans again. Your style changes, you know😆
I really enjoy these videos because even though I've learned to think differently ever since trying to become more minimalistic and I know most of the suggestions, I often "forget" some things so it's nice to be reminded to do it. It also kind of feels like being given permission! For example, I have an expensive dress that I absolutely adore the look of but the colour and cut just wasn't quite right for me. I bought it anyway because I thought I'd make myself wear it, and I'd never bought an article of clothing like that for myself before. It's been years now and I've worn it twice! Watching this video made me realise it's okay to get rid of it, as well as some "freebies." My closet has been really stressing me out lately.
Congrats for 40k! I don't even put clothes with tags in my wardrobe - they go straight to the laundry basket because I'm not going to wear them without washing first anyway :- )
Thank you!! I just got rid of 35 things in my closet!! I decluttered about a month ago and felt I could do more and found this video! It helped a ton!! I have the other life syndrome issue 🤣😂 I'm obsessed with this video 🤣 I keep watching it and coming up with more things I missed 😂
I love how rational and relaxed you are about this. You made me admit that yeah... I don’t actually need painting clothes. I grew up with them, but my family actually did paint the house, inside and out, when it needed it. And we used to volunteer to fix up other people’s homes. I don’t actually do that as an adult and I’m sorry to say I’m just not going to. So... why do I have a dozen beat up T-shirt’s I can’t wear out of the house? Time to trash or donate. So sad... but I have too many clothes to fit in my closet so thank you for the inspiration!
Literally watched this while decluttering my closet. I had held onto nice dressier type work tops that I have barely worn or never really worn!! They are going to Good Will today!!
These videos are great! I don't really need to declutter my living spaces, but I can definitely think of many items in my closets (clothing and non-apparel) that can be decluttered. Thanks for all the videos! I'm enjoying your channel and all the tips on intentional living.
I really liked your last tip. I have never heard anybody talking about "painting" and "camping" clothes. I also have like a box of it, since we still build out house with my husband they do come in handy, but I think I do have too much anyways 😄 I also have "children" clothes, since I know small children and clothes get dirty and damaged with small children, I keep those too 😅.
I will get the exact shirt as a clone just because I love it and know the other will wear out and then I'll be sad (usually Target items) but I agree on similar items. Just decluttered my closet again and finally parted with some items I used to love but don't fit who I am/my body the right way anymore.
I have 5 of the exact same gray shirt...but I wear all of them! I actually decluttered all of my belts because I never wear them. I have a few things that I plan on selling when the weather cools off. I must have thought that I was someone else when I bought them!
It's been a while but I did a huge declutter of my closet to get rid of items from my "past life." Items that I loved wearing before having kids but knew they would never fit right again. There were some tears involved initially, but now I don't look back and I don't regret it one bit. I have enough shirts to get through a week, a few pairs of jeans to rotate through, teo dresses and three skirts that can be dressed up or down,I find that to be a good enough amount of variety for me. And I take up a fraction of the closet space my husband does 😊
fantasy self 😳 good lord I love you! I'm sitting here laughing at this statement about to start declutting my closet and watching your video. I'm laughing because I bought this dress that looked similar to something Kim Kardashian would wear to a big fancy event. I loved it so much! However reality is I'm a single mom with 3 kids and don't go anywhere fancy 😂
I disagree a lot. Clone clothing for example. If it's similiar and I use both items it's much more sustainable to use them rather than donate. Donated clothes often do not end up in better home, but in landfill instead. And I would assume anyone can use second white t-shirt. Maybe better idea would be to put it in storage, and "shop" when first item is old and worn out. I have issue with minimalists that forget to be green.
Thanks for sharing these thoughts! So if you use both items that’s totally cool! Keep them, I was saying that more for the duplicates that go unworn 💙 Also, that’s why I suggested things like doing a clothing swap! It’s a fun way to give clothes a new life! Plus donating clothes to local charities vs. big chains can help ensure the clothing gets used! Obviously in a 10 minute video it’s hard to go into a ton of detail on this but I’m definitely a fan of considering the environment and not getting rid of things just for the sake of decluttering. And with everything my caveat is to take which of these apply to you and forget the rest 💙 P.S. having two white shirts can totally be useful haha! I don’t really have any duplicates besides that in my wardrobe and was trying to find an example for the video 😂
I agree with you. I try to donate clothes directly to people. Clone items are fine if you wear them all. I’m a uniform dresser and have style, not fashion. Many of my items are clone items.
So proud 9f myself I dshrunk alot of my closet and less mental fatigue. Having too many choices makes me stress and worsens anxiety. People do this now your future self will thank u later❤️ or I let friends look at my clothes for donation that way they can enjoy new cute clothes!!!! It's stressful but even a few mins a day helps is progress.
I own 37 plain white t shirts, but I find it so much better to have lots of them and will keep them all, simply because I wear them probably 6 out of 7 days a week and because they are very easy to destroy with stains. It means I don't have to continue to purchase more and more now and I can allow some to filter out if they are ruined with stains, which about 10 are ready to be discarded. If I want to top them up when the amount drops then I will. incase you think I'm boring, I change my outfit up with shoes and jackets
I got rid of my closet... really. "Be content with little." "Detachment consists in refraining from letting our possessions possess us." ~ Baha'i Faith
I used to buy duplicates of my wardrobe favorites for when they eventually wore out, but I ended up learning that it takes a while for most clothing to wear out, and 9 times/10 by the time a clothing item had worn out and I had a duplicate waiting to replace it, that item wasn't really my favorite anymore, my style had changed, or I found something that fits the same function but better. So now, I no longer buy duplicates as future replacements and instead tell myself "Love this item while you have it, maybe you'll get to replace it with the same item later, or maybe you'll get to have fun going shopping for a new favorite." Saves a lot of space and potential guilt over regrets.
I'm about to start a big decluttering in my house. What are your thoughts on older clothes in good condition that don't fit anymore? They are my favorite pairs of pants that are currently too small (by a couple of sizes!). I find it hard to get rid of them, but I feel like it might be silly to keep hanging on to them.
Nicola Brudzinska they are my lounge clothing, and taking walks. I do go to the gym once or twice a week, but that’s why I only have 2 pairs and that’s it.
I have multiples of black long sleeve tops... and I tend to wear them more than anything else.... those ones I keep despite the fact that they are very similar.
i often will have clothing of different styles and will alternate between such idk if that normal but i hate wearing the same few outfits even if i don’t use them for a few months i will later if that makes sense
My painting clothes is a red overall that the guys made my husband wear on his bachelors, they had him washing cars before getting to the party. Thats 10 years ago. I have used it twice, but I still keep it. One set I feel is acceptable as it will help my own clothes stay paint free when I do need them. And when I say paint, I mean painting our home. For painting on a canvass I use acryllic, so no special clothes for that...
Alternate me clothes!! I'm a comfy clothes girl (even buying multiples, to ultimately replace the 1st worn-out one), but keep buying "fashion me" clothes.... I'd really like to be that fashion girl, but know it's NEVER going to happen!
my boyfriend buys 2of the same t shirt when he finds one he likes 😅 to be honest, all his t shirts are similar. they are all black with a little withe or blue drowning 🤔
Ah, the donating if it doesn’t sell/was expensive was the hardest for me! I am moving in two months and I am power decluttering everything. But it’s true, you’ve already spent the money anyway and someone else will love the item.
I have a panting shirt I have had for 33 years. Started with my first place all my kids room paint on every were we have live it the best shirt . I pull it out every time I paint a room.
My main issue regarding clothes is that I have a sensory processing disorder. Because of this I shop at Walmart (the only clothing soft enough that I can handle them) and when I find something that I can tolerate that I love I get so excited that I typically end up buying the item in every color! This is really bad for my wallet, my minimalist closet, and the environment... I’m working on it...
Same I only wear black but I'm wearing a blue top my mum gave right now for bedtime cause its comfy, has my favorite vw kombu on it but never in public lol
Maternity clothes/clothes that only fit me for the couple weeks after I had my babies 😂 I keep thinking my metabolism will catch up with me one day and I'll suddenly gain weight and need those clothes.... But it's not happening. Bye bye to all my size pants that are a size 6 or larger. 👋👋👋 I've been intending on decluttering them for over 5 years, finally got around to it.
What did you do with your wedding dress? I have mine up in the attack since 2008 but I will never use it again of course. I feel it's just lying there doing nothing.
I have a hardtime looking for who to donate my clothes to. I want to make sure that the receiver will actually use it and will not end up another clutter in her house
I wish I had that lace tank. I would wear it on a date now that I have decluttered. I really hate having to wear the same jeans and shirts over and over while dating. Also, I really wish I wasn’t such a messy eater that stains clothes too much. Feel like I’d have no shirts left I love soon.
Diane I just discovered on yesterday that dreft stain remover works on any stain. I have tried so many stain remover products that didnt work. The key to dreft stain remover is that it should be the 1st time laundering the item since the stain appeared. Follow step on bottle and stain will come out. So far breastmilk, spit up and blood from a nose bleed have come out completely for me. Walmart sells it for $5 in stain remover section and Amazon sells it. Hope this saves some of your clothes too!
If you love an item get the same item if you can. They will last longer. Plus if it’s a staple item in your capsule it’s worth it to have multiple to keep it for awhile. For example I have 11 pairs of my favorite work pants because they are the only ones that fit and go with everything. If one pair wears out I know I have 10 more and get use out of everything
I think the best option to get rid of damaged clothing is to recycle it yourself, as in turn it into rags to replace paper towels or use as scrap fabric for sewing. There is really no point to recycling clothing as there is already more than enough fabric in the world
I disagree with the clone items. I basically wear the same thing everyday because I like how it fits on my body especially jeans. Everything else was valid.
I have a nice walk in closet and I have 5 Evening bags all the same color (how did that happen)? I just wont give them away...ughh I also have scrubs that I don't wear to work because they are to dam small but once again I will not throw them out.
What’s an item that YOU don’t need in your closet? 🌿
I don't need multiple sets of swimwear.
Clothing that doesn't fit properly. I need to either take it to the tailor or liberate it!
Clothing centered around pacific holidays because they aren’t worn often enough to justify the space they take up.😉
Jeans, they’re just so uncomfortable!
A summer house robe. I never wore it. Out it went!

I think it's good to have clones because if you don't have your own washer and dryer it helps.
Clothes with tags purchased during lockdown??? I will not be decluttering those. I haven't "been to work" since March. Some things are relative.
I did a huge closet declutter the other day and got rid of a few Halloween costumes in my closet!
That’s awesome!!
You're right it is really stretched out but I love it too much to declutter it so it can stay until I find I love more.
Letting stuff go ✌️✌️😜
Great content
Camping clothes! I have so many to declutter.
I agree with all these tips!
I have a hardtime looking for who to donate my clothes to. I want to make sure that the receiver will actually use it and will not end up another clutter in her house
You can always upcycle your clothes and give a new look as well ..
Hope this saves some of your clothes too!
my boyfriend tend to buy 2 of the same t shirt XD when he finds one he likes he buy 2 and wear them all the time till they lose their shape or colors
Great video! But how cold did that drink get? 😭 ☕️
A bit cold if I’m honest 😅
Good video!
Thanks!!
Been watching you for awhile, you have really inspired me to incorporate minimalism in my life! Love your videos :) love from Singapore! 🇸🇬
That makes me so happy!! 🥰
You went to teenpact??
Haha yep 💙 High school man
If you love an item get the same item if you can. They will last longer. Plus if it’s a staple item in your capsule it’s worth it to have multiple to keep it for awhile. For example I have 11 pairs of my favorite work pants because they are the only ones that fit and go with everything. If one pair wears out I know I have 10 more and get use out of everything
I wore some bridesmaids dresses for a cruise but after got rid of them
Nice!!
Winter clothes in Texas 🥲
Make sure to read washing instruction, so it won't shrink. If you use the items that are the same it's okay.
Honestly, whenever I get "freebies" I just use them for PJ's. I hardly ever buy PJ's.
Random question, but how old are you?
Haha I’m 22
@@AshlynneEaton My clothes are older than you.
For sure!
If you use and love them, then great! Keep them!
My girl said "happy feet". I love it! 😏
Blisters and pain shoes. They DO have to GO
I don't have a problem with the duplicates because I wear them all.
I give most clothes to family
I have a nice walk in closet and I have 5 Evening bags all the same color (how did that happen)? I just wont give them away...ughh I also have scrubs that I don't wear to work because they are to dam small but once again I will not throw them out.
I hate bridemaids dresses. I only like one that I have reused a couple of times. All others were given to other people.
