In 2024, I committed to not buying cosmetics. The only ones I was allowed to buy were the 3 basic products I use daily WHEN I RAN OUT. I saved literally HUNDREDS of dollars by doing this. It was gard but I'm proud!
I’m not buying more tea until I drink down my collection! In general, I’m trying to buy less food from the grocery store before I need it so I can reduce what I’m wasting when things inevitably expire.
Instead of buying books, visit your local public library! Libraries are wonderful and fun places and little Oliver will love the children's programming. You'll want to raise him to be a lifelong public library user, so no time like the present! I read a lot and get ALL my books from our local library. And yes, I'm a librarian. 😂
You mentioned buying clothes for who we used to be. One of the most helpful things I ever heard, regarding downsizing, purging, becoming minimalist or saving money, was don't indulge the idealistic version of yourself. We all have a vision of what we'd be and how we'd live if life didn't get in our way. I've parted with so many of the tangible items tied to that vision of myself. All the supplies for crafts I never got around to doing, the cooking and baking (especially holiday) items I didn't use. Sure, I want to make sweet, meaningful gifts and yummy Christmas treats. There was that video in my head of me being so, so creative and not stressed by those crafty commitments. Reality tends to be much different. Kids, work, community, church.......yeah, nobody is getting Croquembouche from me for Christmas. Or probably ever. I try to be mindful of who I am, what season of life I am in, to just be present and to attend to those current needs and maybe a few wants. I don't have room for all the paraphernalia the ideal me would need in my life, my house OR my brain.
Hi thank you so much for sharing this. I really appreciated your words and honestly I needed to read these words today. It's so easy for me to get into a fantasy world when I look at influencers on social media that dress trendy and I have been guilty of buying these items then realizing it's not the "real me". I what you said was so good, about not indulging in the idealistic version of myself. This year my goal is mindfulness to think more about purchases and also think if this is the real me or a "fantasy me". 😊
Low buy year 2025 with spouse and toddler♡Reasons: 1.Tired of always wanting more and not being content. 2. Exhausted of always shopping in-person or online so much/dissociation. 3.Putting too much importance on things. 4.Comparing too much/ seeking approval. 5. Delay gratification and dopamine hits. 6.Impulse buys, guilt, returns/declutter. 7.Pay off the brand new truck sooner than expected (only debt) (2nd vehicle is paid off). 8. Build our savings higher. And i made a rules of yes and no for myself and got a budget app. Thank you
At the beginning of 2024, I made a list of 24 things I wasn't going to buy. I kept track of my fails. It wasn't great, it wasn't horrible, but it definitely made me much more aware! Books and candles were on my list last year, I did well on the books until recently, but not going to beat myself up over it. I have a list of 25 for 2025, but I'm also aiming for buying way less and only shopping in thrift stores for fun shopping. No more candles!
I’m doing a No Spend Year 2025. I began 2024 low buy and will end it with No Spend. So I think I’m ready to take it for the entire year. Good luck to everyone
This morning I literally stood in the pantry and said “we really just need to eat out of this for a while”. We have STUFF, like everyone else, but throwing away food is JUST WRONG to me.
Well done! ❤ I had a no/low buy year as an experiment. I did really well until October. I needed a new bed, and suddenly I was in a free for all buying Christmas gifts and extra things that are lovely, but not necessarily “needed”. I’m back on track now though, and all my shopping is done. All in all no regrets 😊😅
I gave up buying seasonal decor (aka clutter items). Simplicity for me. I want a space I don't have to curate as if I'm a merchandiser working a department store window every month. That stuff just piles up over time, costs $$$$ that is better used elsewhere, and less stuff/clutter is better, I find.
I’m with you on not buying new baby clothes with the only exception being a few basics. Most of my baby’s wardrobe is secondhand except for a few Burt’s Bees Baby sleepers (they’re the best, I shop their clearance sales, and the only ones long enough for her). We bought most of her wardrobe for the first year before she was born because I knew I would want to stay out of thrift stores until cold and flu season was over, so we really don’t need much of anything. What I have needed I got on ThredUp or Burt’s Bees Baby.
It shocked me how much I spent on coffee, every time I went out! They’ve really increased in price since covid. But I enjoy it, and now I have a free bus pass 😊 I agree with you about books and decor, second hand is a good plan.
I look forward to this video every year! Great job sticking to your goals last year! I would love to see a video on the recipes you come up with to replace the convenience of eating out, I also want to reduce this next year and have 2 kiddos so would love the inspiration 😊
You have really inspired me over the years to purchase less and use up what I have. A few years ago I decided to use up all my journals before I purchased any new ones. I have only had to buy a couple when I run out. And then when I get them gifted to me, I don’t have to go and get new ones! I can keep the gifted ones in a space so when I use one up, I can grab some from my stock. And I only purchase a new one when I NEED a new one. I journal almost every day so it’s so hard for me to pass up on a cute journal, but it’s really helped me not to have extra clutter or spend too much money in that area.
YES! I probably have 20 journals of various sizes to go through before I’d have to buy any more. I also journal almost every day and use them for my to-do lids but I definitely need to use a number of them before buying anymore. Even dollarama ones add up!
My husband and I agreed that we needed to tighten our finances this year especially after buying a new car. 😅 One main thing we noticed was we also got comfortable and started to order out a lot, also before we used to split meals when going out with friends ans lately we have each had our own meal. It adds up quickly! So we decided to cook out meals from home and only go out to eat 2 times a month. 1 of his choice 1 of my choice. If we do get invited to go out with friends on rare occasions we agreed we would split a meal. 😊 Your video inspired me to make my own no buy list for 2025! Thank you!
This year I spent so much money on ordering Instacart and take outs. I had a baby on February and it was just easy clicking it with a button. Next year, now that my baby will be a year on February I want to spend more time home cooking and going myself to buy the food. I also like the idea of not buying any make up until I use up what I already have. 😊
In 2024 I committed to not buy anything from Amazon, and I've been very successful at cutting that out of my life. I also tried to cut out food delivery with less success, so I'm going to try that one again in 2025!
Use it up! I take a screen shot of Amazon purchases that are new and put them in Google Keep. This is how I monitor if I’m using items. At the end of the year, I hold myself accountable (commit to using or donate).
Ashlynne! Be careful with the address on the Uber app! I am looking to stop spending on clothes, apart from a few materinaty pieces when the time comes as well as spending at coffee shops when Im alone. I would love for it to be a treat when I am with friends but I spend a lot at coffee shops just because I feel like it.
Myself and the kids have too many clothes, we thrift and bought a lot ,so we do not need to buy any or shoes. Dishes a s bakeware, I bought things I love and don't need more. Blankets. New gifts, we want to focus and thrifted gifts this year to reuse what's out there. Decor, I could actually declutter as i purchased more vintage decor and love it better. No need for books I have about 60 to get through.
This year we spent a good chunk on mostly needs but also wants. We saved good for all this. But Now for 2025 Def going to work on earning it all back and cutting back on things I don't need like fun drink, more toys, and eating out is my main problem areas! Need to learn to enjoy cooking more and home food
I will cut back on my Amazon purchases. I will admit that I am guilty of purchasing something from there that I haven’t saved up for. I tend to cook my own meals, and make my own snacks (fruit and nuts), so I will continue that starting Jan. 2025. My goal is to have a low-buy year. I would like to start my online savings buckets back up, and put some money towards each bucket bi-weekly. I will focus on writing my budget bi-weekly so that I can see how much I can contribute into each account. I am also focused on getting out of debt.
I will not be buying gifts for my Adult Children on their Birthdays or Christmas! Im on Disability, low income tho most importantly I just need/ want time with them❣️ Eat through the food I have, use what i have in the fridge, freezer & cupboards, make simple, healthy meals. 🇨🇦🍁😊
My big thing is preworkout 😂 I bought so many on Black Friday so I’m set up for a few months. I love having a variety of flavors, but my goal is to use them all up until I’m completely out before repurchasing 🤞🏼
I have been following you for years and I always love your videos, I would like more videos about Bible study and minimalist outfits, but as I said I love all your content, 🤍 I wish you the best, God bless you and your beautiful family 🥰🥰🥰
I’m definitly buying books next year, I did get a Kindle on my birthday so I will buy more books on that instead of physical copies. I always do a no spend in the beginning of the year from january to february or march depending on how long it takes to declutter the house and use up food from our pantry, fridge and freezer. I really enjoy doing this every new year. I always try to not buy candles, tea and notebooks but the struggle is real 😅 I’m only allowed to buy when there is an actual need. I did buy some lovely christmas tea from Yogitea the other day when I ran out. I do keep a wishlist for items I think I need and usually ask for those items for my birthday and christmas. I find writing it down really helps if there is a shopping itch.
I implemented a detailed budgeting strategy, tracking every expense and setting clear spending limits across all categories. In just six months, I saved over $20,000, giving me a strong sense of financial security and the ability to invest in my future. This approach has transformed the way I manage money, and I now feel more confident than ever about achieving my long-term goals.
Thanks! The strategy was all thanks to Lorrie Greta Hillard, a brilliant financial advisor. She helped me create a personalized budgeting plan, track my expenses, and prioritize savings effectively. Her expertise made all the difference in reaching my financial goals!
Some great points made i am exacly the same with tea , i hoard it when its on offer. I use to be exacly the same with fizzy drinks intill i had to have loads of dental fillings. Candles and wax melts well am i love them! Books too , i have tendencies to hoard n get obsessive over personal items. I have sold alot of stuff and gifted lots of stuff for Christmas to reduce the amount of items i have. Its cleared some decent space i just need to continue it 😂
I have been taking my kids to the library since they were babies to dry to help them to develop a fondness for reading. This was also a way for me to save money on buying books, which I noticed were so expensive 😭 every book is now $10 and more. Now, this is just a fun practice and we learn about even more free community events! Reading all these comments gives me hope that libraries are going to be go-to spots for kids and teens again. Please visit your local libraries! The more you check out books, the more they need they see. They can get more funding for new books, programs, events, etc.
I'm REALLY struggling with buying new baby clothes for my granddaughter. She is 17 months old, and some things she only wore once or twice. I should know better. I DO know better. I'm going to join you on buying her clothes secondhand.
I've saved so much on books (especially for homeschooling) by utilizing the local library. If it's not available I either decide on a different book with the same purpose or I will purchase on Thriftbooks. ☺️ My husband is skilled at finding the most precious and unique books at thrift stores ❤️
I’m normally no waste & crunchy. Post partum & end of pregnancy is take out, freezer meals, paper plates, etc! We save up during pregnancy knowing this so that we don’t feel financially guilty & it’s one thing i don’t have to deal with/worry about. I BF but my husband washes all bottles/pump parts as his contribution! as a mom of 4, it’s the ticket lol
I’m going to try not to buy anymore candles,no more pens and pencils, need also to declutter paper things, luv them but might be getting to excess now.
The drinks are also super expensive after awhile I love my poppi and olipops as treats but where I live sometimes they are $3.00-$4.00 a can in some stores! It adds up
Cooking pots and pan…. I am always in the search of that new pan to add to my collection when in fact what I currently have are from top brands and are performing absolutely beautiful. So yes my goal is not to buy any new kitchen stuff on 2025. I got to fight this nonsense on me. Thank you.
I have found places like Once Upon A Child have great holiday outfits for kids! they can only wear it once a year & then they get donated & are in perfect condition!
There are websites where you can stream audiobooks in perfect quality for free if you know where to look. You can stream them or download them to listen to them later. I see that you use tea bags to make your tea, there are lovely sieves (?) you can get that you can use forever instead :) The bags are very convenient tho, especially when travelling. Thanks for sharing! Cool video :)
If you can tolerate (as a mom of 4 I’ve found) dresses they are the win win. Pregnant, post partum, breastfeeding, they always look nice, are easy & flowy.
I love tea too. I allow myself the favourites, in my case 4, to have. When I run out of one or more, I'll buy just that one. If visitors come, I I'll get 3 different ones that I know the person likes ❤
For 2025 I'm only buying 1 thing in a month that comes to cosmetics, shoes, dresses, accessories, home goods rather find some alternate solutions for it,i was sephora addict, later realized we can find most of items from drug store too
I felt God challenge me to give up Netflix for a season, as I was binge watching, it was just too easy. I replaced it with reading, and joined my library. I love reading but was distracted by Netflix. I wanted to read Christmas books, but don’t see the point in buying them. I took screenshots of the books in my local supermarket and managed to find them all in the library. Three done, three to go, costs me 85p to borrow as they had to be put be brought in from another library, but so worth it.
I am the exact same with books - I want to read more but struggle to find the time to fit it in! I am very much hoping to read the books I’ve accumulated over the last couple of years. Same with lip balm/gloss, etc. I have way too many and feel guilty as I know I won’t be able to finish them all before they expire 😢 but I will at least not purchase any more.
You can melt them down on your stovetop using a double boiler. Just use 1 deep dish frying pan filled halfway with water 2 raw wax candles without coverings can be placed in a second, smaller pot and melted down. If it’s already in a jar there’s no need for the second pot, but the heat should be lower. Use thick thread (3 threads tied together) and chopsticks to make sure it’s centered. Put in freezer until solid.
I turned old a3 paper from school into printer paper. I am 30 lol 😂 Also using up a bunch of Christmas paper that was only used once before buying new ones
Not exactly not buying but I have been reducing the random stock of lotions and soaps that I have been just carrying from apartment to apartment for years finally finishing some of the lotions and no longer have a whole shampoo conditioner set just sitting on the shelf being passed over
When you buy new items take out the old and store it in attic closet etc and then when tempted to buy new put some of the old items you haven’t used in a while? Just a thought! Good luck
Well, i was surprised that i don't really buy any of the 10 items on your list. I'm retired and seldon buy these sorts of things. At least not new. But I still get them as gifts. So i still have a surplus of teas, home decor items and scented candles! 😊
In 2025, I won't be buying any clothing, car accessories, food (unless it's a social occasion), home decorations, new personal care items (I can only purchase refills), and drinks and desserts when eating out.
I thought it is only me who loves to buy tea and will stock up on it. Not guilty if buying, but guilty of not using it as much as I should. Would do the same and won't buy more until i an down on my stock
Ashlynne, back on Tuesday, I did enjoyed a Christmas party at the Guildford Golf and Country Club, and I got an another PlayStation 5 for my Christmas gift.
I thought it was going to be 10 things you’re not going to buy next year. All these things you said you were going to buy after you finish up what you have.. or with moderation/limitations…
It really just depends on the category. For example, I’m not planning to buy any plants in the upcoming year. But with some of them it’s just not practical for me not to buy anything at all, like baby clothes. My child has to be able to wear something 😅
@ maybe not have it on the list then? Not trying to be mean about any of it, but was genuinely looking for a video for inspo of what to cut out for next year!
not buying baby clothing will be a hard one for me 😅 mostly because they outgrow so quickly so i’m constantly having to buy his normal wear clothes every other month!
What’s one thing you’re NOT buying in 2025? 🤍
Books.
@@ervinsmoviecorner8748same. Except children's books for my toddler
Clothing, shoes, and purses
I'm not buying anything but replacements. Also reduce by 90% food delivery is my goal.

Love that!! Want to work on that as well 🙌🙌
@@AshlynneEatonit also has been helping me get less takeout, because what I once saw as “nothing to eat” is now lots of possibilities
Not a good idea
I still like your comment though
The economy is going to crash soon. Everyone should stock up and be prepared for what is to come.... we are very close to world war III
Love this idea! Will be doing this too!

I'm REALLY struggling with buying new baby clothes for my granddaughter. She is 17 months old, and some things she only wore once or twice. I should know better. I DO know better. I'm going to join you on buying her clothes secondhand.
Haha my mom says the same thing, so know you’re not alone. 💛💛 Love that buying secondhand idea!
Make sure you wash it before wearing. Secondhand clothing and textiles need to be washed as soon as you get home.
@HunterSeth All clothes should be washed after purchasing. New or used.
@ that. But some people don’t do it because they think it’s “new.” You can get STI’s from wearing “new” to you clothing without washing them.
@@tanyadutton4017 I’m glad you already know. You’re a good parent in that aspect.
Shower gels. My husband saysI have enough to last my whole life.
I’m doing no new kids clothes as well, and I have the same exception! My kids are 6,5, and 2 and pants get worn out so fast! Buying new is worth it 👍🏻
I've saved so much on books (especially for homeschooling) by utilizing the local library. If it's not available I either decide on a different book with the same purpose or I will purchase on Thriftbooks. ☺️ My husband is skilled at finding the most precious and unique books at thrift stores ❤️
Ashlynne, you have mentioned teas, plants, books, takeout, clothes, decorations many times in your Do Not Buy in 20(20,21,22,23,24 etc)
I try every year...I do get better...I do not need a thing in all categories
Books...won't buy them unless I'm finished with my tbr...this will be a difficult challenge for me..😅
Hi Ashlynne ! I haven’t been in your channel in years! Congratulations on becoming a mom! ❤
Even very young kids can help with plants ❤ I have two boys 😊
There are websites where you can stream audiobooks in perfect quality for free if you know where to look. You can stream them or download them to listen to them later.
I see that you use tea bags to make your tea, there are lovely sieves (?) you can get that you can use forever instead :) The bags are very convenient tho, especially when travelling.
Thanks for sharing! Cool video :)
Hi Ashlynne! I love the glass jars you have to store tea-where did you find them?
If you can tolerate (as a mom of 4 I’ve found) dresses they are the win win. Pregnant, post partum, breastfeeding, they always look nice, are easy & flowy.
LOVED this... I have to reflect on this for 2025.
I love tea too. I allow myself the favourites, in my case 4, to have. When I run out of one or more, I'll buy just that one. If visitors come, I I'll get 3 different ones that I know the person likes ❤
Try modern cloth diapers. You can very cheaply buy gentrly used covers and stuff for under 50 and stop buying disposables
Heck if you live in orlando I'll help you. I loved that stage of my life
For 2025 I'm only buying 1 thing in a month that comes to cosmetics, shoes, dresses, accessories, home goods rather find some alternate solutions for it,i was sephora addict, later realized we can find most of items from drug store too
You have great options for books in Mecklenburg County libraries!😊
Nr 1 decor
Nr 2 books
Nr 3 work close and summer close
Nr4 towels and bedding
Nr 5 reduce candy
Great list!
Books, only replacements (in clothes, bathroom, makeup, etc).
I love your videos ❤
You are inspiring 😊
Aw thanks!!
Also would love to know if / how you repurpose used up candles
Love reusing them as plant pots!
I plan weekends to go for nature trails and other activities so we dont end up in a shopping mall, grocery chain or fancy restaurant
I turned old a3 paper from school into printer paper. I am 30 lol 😂
Also using up a bunch of Christmas paper that was only used once before buying new ones
Agree about the Christmas wrap. I also use greeting cards from last year and use them up before buying any more.
Not exactly not buying but I have been reducing the random stock of lotions and soaps that I have been just carrying from apartment to apartment for years finally finishing some of the lotions and no longer have a whole shampoo conditioner set just sitting on the shelf being passed over
Where did you get that white mug with evergreen leaves in 4:40? I am obsessed!!
I hear you about books!
Let’s get to work on our reading lists 👏👏
@AshlynneEaton absolutely!!
when you said book I was literally looking at my 60+ unread books I definitely am not buying any new books in 2025
I really don't need to buy clothes this year.
I am confused. The link to the sweater you are wearing in the video has a completely different texture. Can you please clarify ? Thank you❤️
Teach him your plants our mommies and no touch. They will learn very quickly.
Great ideas! - Linda S.
I'm the same with tea!
I m obsessed with home decor...and spend a lot almost every month.,..its addictive and don't know how to get rid out of this addiction
When you buy new items take out the old and store it in attic closet etc and then when tempted to buy new put some of the old items you haven’t used in a while? Just a thought! Good luck
Maybe donate to a Thift shop?
Hi Ashlynne..could I ask you where you order teas from..
Well, i was surprised that i don't really buy any of the 10 items on your list. I'm retired and seldon buy these sorts of things. At least not new. But I still get them as gifts. So i still have a surplus of teas, home decor items and scented candles! 😊
Very nice Video 😊❤
Books and candles are the hardest thing for me to stop buying
Skin care -until I finish what I have.
In 2025, I won't be buying any clothing, car accessories, food (unless it's a social occasion), home decorations, new personal care items (I can only purchase refills), and drinks and desserts when eating out.
Awesome dear friend 😅🎉😂😂❤
Silly question, where is your black bookcase from?
I thought it is only me who loves to buy tea and will stock up on it. Not guilty if buying, but guilty of not using it as much as I should. Would do the same and won't buy more until i an down on my stock
You look like actress Violett Beane. 😊
Reusable bags (new)
❤
Ashlynne, back on Tuesday, I did enjoyed a Christmas party at the Guildford Golf and Country Club, and I got an another PlayStation 5 for my Christmas gift.
That sounds fun!
Hello🎉
I thought it was going to be 10 things you’re not going to buy next year. All these things you said you were going to buy after you finish up what you have.. or with moderation/limitations…
It really just depends on the category. For example, I’m not planning to buy any plants in the upcoming year. But with some of them it’s just not practical for me not to buy anything at all, like baby clothes. My child has to be able to wear something 😅
@ maybe not have it on the list then? Not trying to be mean about any of it, but was genuinely looking for a video for inspo of what to cut out for next year!
Join your local library!!!
Restaurant meals
Scented candles are super toxic.
Agreed. And if one has children or pets, they should probably be avoided altogether.
not buying baby clothing will be a hard one for me 😅 mostly because they outgrow so quickly so i’m constantly having to buy his normal wear clothes every other month!
