- This is a Cummins 4bt 3.9 liter Turbo charged diesel that was rebuilt for a chevy truck project .it had low miles . has new seals and gaskets . lots of new parts and fresh Cummins red paint . in memory of Doug Dyne ....Dyne Diesel racing Cummins: After doing some research we think we have decided on
the way to go. The Cummins 4BT or ISB 3.9 liter turbo-charged four cylinder looks like a good fit. This engine can be found in some Ford
E350 cube vans, Chevy/GMC P30/P3500 step vans, and Case 580 Tractors. This ISB puts out 145-170 HP and 420 pounds of torque. That is 80 pounds more than the 6.0 Vortec V8. Unfortunately the ISB is so new the chance of getting one used is slim. Buying one new is a little too rich for our project so we decided the 4BT would be the one to look for. • Jeep Wrangler JK Cummi...
man thats beautiful. look how "simple" and "easy" this engine looks just sitting there running. only wires for the battery. no complicated wiring harness with ECU's and ECM's and relays and fuses and hoses and plastic parts every where. its a shame what modern day engines have come to due to emissions BS.
Absolutely a work of art! Man I want one of these for my Ramcharger. Just an awesome engine!
Wish I could afford to put one of those in my '89 Landcruiser! Sounds great.
I had one of these in a box truck. I completely cut off the "tamper proof" threaded limiter screw on the injector pump, flush with the body... allowing the lever to travel about 3/4" farther. This made it Fun to drive!
This Cummins engine Is perfect for my Jeep Wrangler Sport 1998 awesome sound of the turbo and your ralentí sound Is excellent .
really cool man i got a 1989 D 250 ram with the 6bt cummins 12 valve its my pride and joy. crack a cold beer and have a nice day.
Ebay. $1500-7000, depending on your requirements. And you can put a 4L80E trans behind it and bump the HP up to ~200, torque to ~400 lb./ft. pretty reasonable. Have fun!
Sounds good. Great job!
God id love to have one of these to put in my Tacoma. Never been much for engine swaps, but this would be a good one for any mid size truck that’s low on power
Back in the day this and it's siblings were the WORKHORSES. They run forever. Many times outlasting what ever they were put in. I'd LOVE to have that engine in my '93 K1500. Just dead nuts simple works every time.
I love how simple they are
I know a former truck mechanic who put a 6BT into a 1t 4wd Chevy for Cummins power with Chevys ride. He has a bad back and said he'd have gotten a Dodge if not for the stiffer ride and did the swap and never looked back.
Seven years ago today... Rest In Peace Doug.
love the jacketand the engine
BOY is that NICE
Runs real sweet........NICE JOB!
beautiful sir
Sounds Beautiful
i upgraded mine to the 52 mm and 12cm exhaust housing and turned pump up it spooles up real nice now :-)
Sounds good!!!
I love it need to buy it from you.
Gosh that is such a good looking engine. I would like mine to have a paint job like that!
Perfect engine for a half ton pickup.
Beautiful!!!
wow that engine works perfect
That is a beautiful sound and gorgeous motor! I'm looking to replace my slant 6 with one of these in my 1987 Dodge D100. Do you have suggestions on a resource site or suggestions on how to best locate a beauty like that? Nice work!
ooooooo shuuuutttttt ..... soft and nice .... and good throttle .... cheers .
Very nice 👍
sounds great
so sweet!
Nice, it'll fit my '53 Chevy pickup..
Good job👍🇧🇷
good job. Built a few of these myself, very tough engine.
i would love to have this installed in my 2008 ford ranger fx4
sounds soo nice! I want one in an S10! lol
these came in the frito lay trucks .it was a repower program from cummins to save fuel in the delivery trucks versus the 350 ci chevy . they range in horsepower from 105 HP to 130 intercooled Hp . they have as much torque as a big block chevy . an awsome engine for fuel economy and torque Monster . keep your eyes peeled for my next one soon to be released and for sale !
You may want to check again...in states where smog checks are required the engine must be the same year or newer to pass visual inspection, then it must pass the emissions/particulate tests for that state. States without inspections (like kansas) it's pretty much anything goes as long as it doesnt exceed noise or visual emissions levels. TBH California and Arizona are the most anal of states I have lived in but you can do gas/diesel conversions in those states.
Wow...beautiful. My bread van RV conversion has a little White Hercules diesel that is very under-powered. I am going to find one of these and an Allison and stuff it in there. Yes...its true...I want to put a 4 cylinder Cummins INTO a bread van. Yep
A lot of bread vans came with the 4BT stock
I would love to have this in the 34 Chevy I am going to buy.
on the low end about 350-400ft lbs. but can be bumped to 500ft lbs., our military is working with a tweaked version of this motor supposed turbo and supercharged making 200hp and 500ft lbs., lookup FED Alpha, probably the ISB updated version of the 4BT.
I wanna put one in a 1977 Dodge Sportsman Van! I think it will make the van more economical and reliable.
Very nice job! That thing is smooth. Did you put it in anything?
nice, man
I have a 94 dodge Dakota 4x4 that thing would fit perfectly in the engine bay.
@ilovegoatsecks I used to think the same thing, and when it comes to emissions you're right, but with electronic engines you can get twice the performance and efficiency as the older stuff......but I do love these cummins!
A fresh coat of Cummins...
I love your little engine stand!
I like the sound engine
sweet i want that cummins 4bt under my jeep yj hood

Hey really nice looking. I have a 1996 cummins 4bt.I was wondering if you could show us all how you wired it up to start it up? I have no idea to make it start. thanks.
Joe
Wow sweet. Love to put that in a H3 Hummer
All I see hooked up to this thing are the two coolant hoses for the radiator, the fuel lines going to the diesel, and wires for the battery. Are these 4bt's that simple? No electronic BS to deal with or ECU computer or anything?
Need this for my toyota pickup
1977 pickup.... that would be sweet.
Brendon00000 it would probably fit great, my dad has a 92 he's thought about a Cummins for it
SupramanTR
Will it fit a Nissan pickup?
I was going to comment on the same thing until I saw this. I’ve got a 1994 Toyota pickup and I would love to have one of these engines crammed into it. It would be an absolute beast.
its all in the timing and turbo size :-)
Damn, I'd love to put that on a custom trike with a 3 or 4-speed auto and some performance parts.
Either see if an adaptor is available for your trans or get a Motor and trans out of a donor vehicle and just fit them into your chassis and have a custom drive shaft made, 4wd adds complexity but many options are out there to get the setup you want or need.
Awesome. I'd love one in my 78 Dodge motorhome with a 360 in it right now but the cost of swapping is out of the question really unless the existing engine goes bad.
BEAUTIFUL! i have a 1995 chevy ext. cab silverado i want to put a 4bt 3.9 turbo charge in, i think it would make the truck amazing. would love the fuel milage too :) have you put it in the chevy yet?
I am definitely going to look at a Cummins for my Toyota, motor is very good at the moment, I rebuilt my 3.0 litre zd30 Nissan navara, machining plus new head cost just over $4000 plus 3 weeks to put it together expensive motor, then engine light comes on restricting output on injector pump, you cant beat a tier 2 diesel for reliability forget those electronic crap.
24vs used the HX35 as well, depends if the truck was standard or auto
does it fits in a gmc canyon 2007 ? 😅
Nice--that would be great in a Dakota Would there be any height clearance problems?
That itty bitty engine and an Allison AT545 automatic would be a perfect mix for a 1/2 fullsize pickup truck.
Wish I could put this on my jeep.
dont we all? to bad there insanely expensive
Is not junkyard...one word? Hyphenated maybe?Junk-yard. Hmm...
nice
this 4bt plus my 95 dakota equals my new project! Now to just figure out how to mate it up to a chrysler 45rh or 727
Nice video! How hard is it to put one of those in a Chevy truck? I want to put one in my 01 1500
brother which gearbox? cummins 4bt engine you installed it
ONLY IN THE USA! love toys very fun.
hello i want to ask ,if my isuzu model is 4hj1 4.9cc what can i bolt on with turbo petrol 2.0cc evo3 twin blade??
@pwarren1010 How about fuel line set up for the factory fuel tanks? I also wonder about adapting an AC pump?
I think I know what I'm putting in my jeep and might even have to find an s-10 now also
Putting one of these in a 98 Tacoma. Twins, stock, p pump, and a 150gph lift pump. I'm looking for 350-400hp and around 700ftlbs of torque. I'll be throwing videos up as I go to help anyone that wants cummins power in a taco or 4 runner.
I saw a UTZ step van that has a 4 cylinder Cummins.
So the 4BT is probably running a compressor in the 35-40mm range instead of the standard 52mm on the 6BT?
Sounds great. I wish I could afford on of these Cummins to install in my '91 Jeep YJ.
I wouldn't mind installing a 4BT in my 1986 Chevrolet M1008 also. It would be so much better than the 6.2L in there now.
Would it be wrong to install a Cummins in my 1970 Nova?
thats my kind of go cart
So what are you throwing that into full size or s10 ?
how low, do you think, the temparatue can go before it doesnt start ?
How come it idles so quietly? it doesn't sound like a diesel engine noise when it's idling only when you give it gas.
the 6bt uses the h1c as does the 4bt ..but the 6bt has a bigger air end and exhaust end
black smoke? good power AND efficiency at the SAME TIME?
i dont know if you can find them in Case 580's. they use their won engines. we have a 580D and sadly the engine model was some how torn of the engine sticker. and the engines are less than 100 HP
Same engine in my boat.
Can a 4bt get adapted into a Jeep Commander that has a 3.7 L V6 with the base four wheel drive / 5-sp auto-manual transmission?
this 4bt runs a hx30w holset turbo, the older 12v 6bt ran the h1c, then later model 12v a hx35w then after that with the 24v they used the hy35w turbo.
HI ..it is more responsive because i Tune mine right !.... i didnt start in this yesterday !! i will be listing another one in about a month ..keep your eyes open :-)
i have always wanted to do a motor swap like this but dont have the knowledge to know where to begin.. do you know of a book or dvd that gives you the run down on how to swap a gas to a Diesel motor
Does that engine run the same turbo as the 6BT version?
@unclebuck6291 Nice motor, when will you list your next 4BT for sale? Any details on the build?
Where can you purchase these engines? i am looking into getting one for my '87 Dodge Diplomat
that would be perfect for my jeep...
I know he's gone but are the 4dt turbos still avail ? Anyone else in family building them
I'm buying one for my pickup
You rebuild it or you just throw paint on it?
What year engine is it. Got a project in mind and this is exactly what i have in mind. Simple and without a bunch of electronic bs.
They made them in the 80s to 1998 then went to a computer..got one Forsale .. where ya at ?
so were is a good place to pick up a 4bt at a good price?
Can I use that 3.9 for a Mitsubishi montero to replace my did ?
I am currently rebuilding a 52' IH pickup. how much would one of these turbo charged cummins go for?
Delco alternator too!
