@Nathan Mcilveen When you have a chip ID card it should work. Of course only if you travel inside Schengen area. Ireland does not use Schengen Agreement, Turkey have not even ratified it. Imo that is probably why it did not work in your case.
@Nathan Mcilveen did you try anything else than the Irish ID card? I know Ireland is EU state, but it is not in the Schengen area. Switzerland however is not an EU state, but it is in the Schengen area. Few of my buddies tried the new chip hungarian ID card for Schengen countries and it worked.

I am refugee and I have Id issued by Belgium Government. But i don't have Passport yet. Can i Go to Spain with my Photo Id?
