    I've seen this drill before, but i like how you explain not just how to do it, but why, and how it affects your hitting. My son and I also like how you explain it in a way that he can understand (he's 10). Thanks coach!

      Thanks so much for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. My goal is always to make things as simple and practical as possible. I always like to teach players WHY they are doing things instead of just spewing commands at them.

    Mark Marquess used strap/wrap hitters front bicep to the chest and make players (who didn't stay connected) take bp. Great video!

    Good vid. I coach younger kids, and i use a similar analogy. One more closely related to ball. I have them hold the bat out and tell them to resist you pushing down. That way they see they are stronger with the bat close to them than extended.

    This is actually my go-to drill when I feel like I'm casting and losing pop or getting under the ball! I watched Cano do this before and that's how I picked this drill up! Good job explaining the drill, but I have one question. I see you back up a few inches off the gate, I don't do this, I keep my bat touching the gate. Would you say one way is better than the other? I understand that it's a difference of only a few inches but I'm actually curious and wondering what your thoughts are. The drill works for me the way I do it, but if I am making any mistakes, I am always open for improvement. Take care!

      I would try backing off a few inches just to see what feels most comfortable. I personally like to back off a couple inches because I don't want to push the knob to the pitcher just for the sake of the drill. If you push the knob instead of swinging the bat, I think it'll result in a weak inside-out swing if that makes sense

    Coach Justin! Thank you, do you have any drills to help rolling over the back foot. I try to tell my lil guy laces to the pitcher, but it's not working! Thank you..

    • @UltimateBaseballTraining
      @UltimateBaseballTraining  6 років тому

      To be honest, I don't ever consciously try to think about "rolling over the back foot" and I don't think you should try to teach it. Instead, try the Ballistic Backside drill. It's on my channel! Just search for it, try it out, and let me know what you think!

    I know im late to the party on this video but im glad i found it. I got into a debate with another little league coach who was telling his kids to "Extend at contact." To which i had to step in and disagree with him. I am a FIRM believe of staying tight to your rotation, were you are at your strongest. Then extend THROUGH contact not AT. He was a little lost on what i was trying to explain. Ill have to show him this video. Love the fence drill to its one of my hitting stations every week. Another great video Justin. Keep up the good work.

      Thank you so much for the support, Ryan! I would recommend showing him this video as well as slow motion footage of professional players. It's really not up for debate now that we have high-speed video. If you freeze a professional hitter at the point of contact they will certainly not be extended. That comes well after contact as you know. Thanks for watching!

    Coach Justin I am casting as well as not using my lower half. So I’m all arms and I’m casting as well therefore the inner 1/3 is a wasteland for me. Can this drill help to engage my lower half if not what would you suggest for that ?

    Hey man which wood bats do you consider for a newby

    • @UltimateBaseballTraining
      @UltimateBaseballTraining  6 років тому

      Good question! I'm using a Smacker bat in this video. I really like Baum bats for beginners. Wood bats have smaller sweet spots and when you're still learning how to hit, you'll end up breaking bats if you mis-hit the ball. Baum Bats are made of bamboo and are much stronger, so they allow for more room for error

    I have a question, is it better to toe tap or stride when I’m hitting?

    • @UltimateBaseballTraining
      @UltimateBaseballTraining  6 років тому

      It's a personal preference. I would say the majority of hitters should have a stride, but if the toe tap works for you then do it!

  • @coachprinci

    One thing I would add is that if you are not connected the bat would hit the fence.

    Casting. That was my problem when I was a teenager. I developed that bad habit by always playing slow pitch home run derby. It destroyed my swing and trashed my playing time.

    My 8 years old son's coach made him knock the baseball with end of the bat, not swing. What is that drill called? I want to know the theory behind it.
