Ultimate Baseball Training I cannot thank you enough for this video - I’ve struggled all season to consistently get that good hip shoulder separation and it wasn’t until I listened to you explain how to create it (every other hitting video out there talks about consciously “loading/pinching the scap” or bringing the hands back and it was always way too much to think about - I saw your video Thursday night and practiced it dry, off the tee and during front toss, hand to god I was 4-6 with two doubles, a base hit, and an oppo line drive base hit with 2 outs that plated 2 RBIs and broke a 3-3 and won the game for us - Seriously, thank you for this video
Hi, great videos. I don´t know how you, being as young as you are, can have those deep knowledges about baseball. I´m a 32 years old amateur player from Cuba, always played with friends and never trained seriously but I love baseball. I´m starting to practice my swings based on your tips and can´t wait to play again, but I think that my bat speed increased already hahaha. Thank you very much, best regards...
I'm 47 always had excellent bat speed and power wish I had these videos when I played. I also wish I had videos of myself to see exactly what made me so powerful. I always watch your videos so one day I can work with my daughter as shes now 6
I agree that being taught to “take your hands to the ball” isn’t exactly what a coach should teach his players to do. However, I think a lot of coaches, including myself, encourage their players to “take their hands to the ball” because a lot of young players tend to “pull off” with their shoulders and hands. I think it’s really just a tip that will hopefully lead to the player staying on the pitch longer and not bailing out. Keeping their hands along the line of the batters box and ultimately dragging the barrel across the entire plate. Thank you for your tips and videos. I check them out everyday and appreciate your perspective. Keep them coming!
As a collegiate athlete myself I can attest to any young player that this guy has it figured out. I know a lot of it may sound unorthodox but the concept he’s trying to implement here is quality stuff.
@@curtisehoffman There's a lot of good stuff going on in this video, but i wish he would break it down simpler for his younger viewers (Assuming that's his main audience considering the comments he's getting). He's covering the main principle of hitting which is rhythm which in return develops the sense of timing. If you are doing the drill's correctly that he's showing in the video you will find yourself "throwing" your hands instead of forcing the bat through the zone. The most common misconception in hitting is understanding the concept that "quick" is power. I promise you will hit the ball harder and with more authority to all parts of the field once you completely trust your ability to throw you hands as quick as possible rather than forcefully. On another note, after you've completely bought into the concept and trust your hands, you'll realize how much easier it is to time up pitching. That's a whole other discussion but this video should be the foundation for any young hitter that buys into what he's saying.
You should hit MOST days of the week. Quality reps are extremely important, but you'll never be a great hitter by hitting once a week. Throwing is a little bit different because your arm needs to rest, but I'd recommend throwing 4-5x per week and long tossing 2-3x.
What a fantastic video! Thank you... Question for Justin or anyone else in the YT baseball instruction community that might have some insights on the topic... I have a 9 y/o son who LOVES the game! He plays year around (travel ball) + has an outstanding practice ethic! Is it too early to instruct these advanced batting techniques for my son? Seems too complicated for a 9 y/o to try & master. Especially the leg lifting/striding and separating the hands from the body. Or, should I just keep it simplified for now (hands straight to the ball, no stride)? Thanks again!
I say go for it. Not too complicated. Start with simple fundamentals and build upon. I am coaching 10u girls and use many of these and Antonelli's videos for instruction and drills.
Over the years much was made about how much your head/eye level moves as you swing. I took screenshots of your setup and the final position and there seems to be a big difference. Is this not something that is preached anymore? I’m 44.
Hey Coach my hitting mechanics got a lot better in 2019 and that is because of your videos. You're truly very helpful and I wanna thank you for that! I'm a huge mets fan and I love baseball. The only issue I have is to generate velocity with my throws. Can you please do infield mechanics next time please!👍
Hey Coach great channel and video again. So I have a 8 year old who counter rotates in his gather so much it causes bat wrap and then we get disconnected and long. He got away with a lot in coach pitch but now he’s in fallball kid pitch and he’s looking at 50 mph sometimes. So now I have him pre-set his hands behind his back foot with the knob to the catchers feet. He’s also had a big stride and I start him wider now and take a shorter quick stride. I feel like I’m making him a little robot. Short term he actually is hitting the ball a little now but long term am I causing more damage by doing this?
Tip, keep it simple. Weight distribution- back foot, a good hip turn- not half but complete, minimal stride, compact swing through the zone (off your back foot!), constrict hand and arm muscles- never loose. You don't throw a punch without constricting your arm and hand muscles. Explode on the ball while you watch the ball make contact with the bat. Never hit off your front foot, unless you were fooled by a slow curve. That's it!
My next game or practice I hope to be able to show what you have been teaching me and all the other baseball players watching you! Thank you so much for the tips! I am a pitcher, so do you think I should bat after I am done my pitching or before? Or should I just focus on pitching for this day and bat and infield all the others?
Bruce Lee had a one Inch punch that could knock you down. All kidding aside, I've noticed while watching side views of some of the best hitters that no one talks about the hands being above the plain of the ball. If you watch the bat, it swings like a pendulum from your hands and actually swings below your hands. If you could make a video regarding this concept and explain it further I would really appreciate it.
there can be a variety of different reasons why he's doing that. I would try to refrain from changing anything physical or mechanical within his swing until you understand why he's doing that. this can create a lack of confidence in his swing. For instance, majority of young hitters drop their back shoulder in an attempt to CREATE the angle. This guy in the video is attempting to show you guys how to PROPERLY throw your hands, which is a common misconception for majority of hitters. so for an initial change try to alter his perception of hitting instead of frantically trying to change the actual swing.
Cesar Arcizo thank you. My son did say he noticed he was doing it but he wasn’t sure why. I will just talk to him more and see if he is trying to “over power” his swing.
It's a process. Work on his stance, making sure he is in a balaced and athletic position head to toes. Do Load, stride drills without swinging, just to check the body movement and launch position. Better if done in front of a mirror. Progress to freeze at contact position. Check again. This helps to see body position, again, head to toe, still on the mirror. - what he sees will be better understood. Avoiding tousands of coaching words. Progress to hitting off the tee, putting all together, about 50% of the swing speed. Then increase to 70% or so. Then soft side toss, again, just to see a fluid swing. Then front soft toss short distance. Finally live pitch, soft coach pitch, half distance. This is more game like. Keep it short, moving and fun! Let him rest and feel it and learn it without overcoaching. Happy Swings. 😎⚾
The principle is likened to golf. In driving a golf ball the right shoulder (right hander) is pulled back in the backswing and like in baseball the back is seen from the target side with shoulders turned 90% and hips 45%. That is separation and the down or through swing is the same sequence as a submarine pitcher, uncoiling from the ground up and right elbow leading the hands.
So you don't wanna throw the hands back toward catcher bc you want them going back behind you to squeeze and engage the scap? also allowing for more rotation
Dont respond or anything I just need to rant I was practicing today with my brother and dad and I started off decent, but then we went into hitting qnd every ball I felt like I was pushing the ball with the bat and he kept telling me I suck now and I kept doing worse and worse I could catch my fly ballsi couldn't make an accurate throw to first base and I'm worried about how much my skill has declined this whole summer
1:19 I'm pretty sure that's not how they punch they just go straight no draw back all that does is screams HEY I'M ABOUT TO PUNCH YOU AS HARD I CAN I HOPE YOU WON'T NOTICE IT AND THEN DODGE IT!

I just clicked out of curiosity, but he's got it spot on. Especially for a younger guy.

The earlier they start to work in propper hitting mechanics, the better.

Like the bands, think that will help out. Will try that out but anything on swinging hard and finishing for kids?
Very good. I would add your load isn't just a rock back, there is a coiling around the back hip, which you do to some degree in your demos.
Quality lessons Coach! Thank you.

I usually tend to short arm the baseball a lot. Does a stretch band help?
Good stuff.
Thanks Jerry!
Hey coach how many times a week should I be taking batting practice and hitting of the tee?
Baseball TTV everyday man gotta strive for greatness!💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽😤
As much as you can u gotta push ur self keep up the work and do great things
Great content as always!

Do you have a drill to stop wrapping the bat and losing knob discipline?
Good tips

It all makes sense now... I’ve been doing it wrong all along 😂
My Son has started dipping his back shoulder on his swing. What drills can he do to fix that?

Any way to ingrain the motion into the subconscious? I mean if I go out and think about all this I won't really be able to do much...
@Ian Wolff Thanks man, appreciate it.
I needed this, I look like I’m swinging in slow motion
Same bro
I am 11 yrs old and have played baseball for 6 years and can you tell me the average speed for each age from 5 to 12
So you don't wanna throw the hands back toward catcher bc you want them going back behind you to squeeze and engage the scap? also allowing for more rotation
That's actually not how you load up on a punch but I appreciate the concept.
I agree
Bruce Lee could knock out an opponent with his 2 inch punch
@@nerychristian in the fucking movies. Too much people put Lee on a pedestal. Jackie Chan could take any MMA fighter when he was younger also.
Hey dude
What's up, Joel!
Everything looks good except the top elbow placement. Tucked behind the ribs isn’t going to help with inside pitches
Hey what’s up
What's up! Have a great weekend!
Thanks for helping me.
I guess i was doing it right
New record for the word scaps in a video. Congrats
hands cant drift in you TIP THE BARREL why make it so hard..tip and rip..you cant carry your hands forward if you load the barrel..
Dead on advice.
Actually that is not what is slowing my bat speed. Age perhaps but the fact that as much as i practiced, well it looks like I should accept I SUCK.
Dont respond or anything I just need to rant

Ask your coach
It’s all in your head. Try to not think about it. Easier said than done and cheesy I know 😂but it does work

If you are a bully, you grab them and do that. But in boxing you do do that too just not as big of a pull back
Walk...away from your hands man... Put ur hands down...step back. And walk away from the hands sir.
Dude you talk to much get to the point plz ..... I’m out can’t take it
