We spent HOURS trying to get the numbers to add up when we bought our first home. Went to the bank to ask them to explain it. They could not. There was just several thousand unexplained dollars that we were playing and had no idea what it went to and no one could explain it to us.
It's been years, we've since moved, and it is still a mystery. I'm assuming the bank just padded to get some extra money from us, but who knows!

The last part is so relatable 😅. I didn’t see a noticeable dent in my mortgage until I was able to refinance. But, all these first time learning curves make us more aware for the next investment property/forever home!

You forgot the part where you lose the bidding war on the first house, can't negotiate the seller down to a reasonable price on the second house, back out of the third house due to inspection findings then finally make it with the last house just to discover that interest rates went up and the first time buyer program that was available when you started looking is gone now. Or was that just me?

I'm 59 and bought my first house at 19. Yes, things were different back in 1982. Lol Nowadays, I have no idea how kids can buy a house with them being so expensive. Renting isn't even affordable.
I bought a house (new construction) at 26. It was much cheaper than renting an efficiency sized apartment in my area.

This is so accurate, my husband and I bought our first house almost 2 years ago, and we were so confused at first. He was calling my dad and his, asking them all kinds of questions. Super stressful, but so worth it 😅 unless something breaks, then you have to fix it

You have to pay extra and specifically label it for the principle. Refinance for 15 years and start doing that. It slowly accelerates until -whoosh- the mortgage disappears rapidly at the end. You will save $$$!

Every year we get a mortgage statement as to how much went to interest and how much to principal. I don't open it up. I tear it into tiny tiny little miniscule pieces of paper and burn it....every year...year after year.
