I may be very very wrong here but I remember being told that the Welsh flag is not represented because Wales was conquered by the English whereas Scotland and Ireland actively joined the political union.
Heisenberg-jnr Not quite. The British effectively forced Union on the Irish in 1800, by a mixture of intimidation and bribery of the Irish Parliament. Prior to this but after the Tudor suppression of the Irish, Ireland was certainly an occupied country, but it still remained a separate country. Wales, on the other hand, was absolutely conquered by Edward 1 way back in the 13th century. What made wales different from Ireland, though, was that wales was immediately made into a fiefdom and so stopped being a separate country.
In reality Dublin and the surrounding area (known as The Pale) was conquered in the 1200s and began the Lordship of Ireland in which the Irish Rí (kings) had to bow to the Lord of Ireland. It was conquered a few more times to consolidate English rule and they won pretty much every time but everywhere outside of The Pale would drift away from England until the Cromwellian invasion of 1649, where England finally "consolidated" rule of Ireland. This was a much harsher rule and Ireland was then incorporated in 1800/1801 but that doesn't mean we got parliament or speaking rights in English parliament, it just made them look bigger and scarier on a map. Wales was just flat out conquered and was never forced into a union. The UK didn't exist when they were conquered so nobody thought to make a united flag. England, Scotland and Ireland were all joined in a personal union under the same ruler, so it was the UK. That's why Scotland, NI and England have their crosses on the Union Jack but Wales don't. You know a country doesn't deserve to be on a flag when they fought worse than the Irish...I can say that, I'm Irish. We lost pretty much every war and rebellion until 1922 which we sorta won.
I’m a descendant of the Fitzgerald family. My grandma’s last name before she married was Uniat-Penrose-Fitzgerald and her dad and ancestors came from Corkbeg, Cork, Ireland. Her dad died when she was 9 years old and he was an admiral in the navy and also wrote a few books while at sea.
Poor Wales! Ahah Once removed the blue from the Jack, the field of the lower half may just be green! Why not? It would be even better-looking than just white!
Orientation of the Cross of St. Patrick (red X) which was added last: "As Scotland joined the Union nearly two hundred years before Ireland, St Andrew's Cross was placed uppermost in the top quarter nearest the flagstaff, this being the most honourable position according to heraldry." (Red follows white in he diagonals as you move around the flag clockwise)
a quick google search has confirmed this . however it looks a bit like some silly twat got a dodgie tattoo when he was 15 ..... still good though so thanks for the heads up
Both titles are official. the Union Flag is its more commonly used title here in the UK. The usage of the title Union Jack only being used on Naval warships as a tradition has been disputed. However, that argument is on going. If you were to ask any sailor though he would tell you if its on land its the Union Flag if its on bow of a war ship its the Jack.

Wales, on the other hand, was absolutely conquered by Edward 1 way back in the 13th century. What made wales different from Ireland, though, was that wales was immediately made into a fiefdom and so stopped being a separate country.
If you ever said Ireland JOINED the union to an Irish person, they'd kill you on the spot.
TheAnthraxBiology Thank you for that most informative reply. I thought I was kinda/sorta on the right lines. Good to learn something new.

glad to see i wasn't the only one who thought that
Seeing where they're from in Westeros (which is pretty much an enlarged deformed British Isle) it wouldn't surprise me
He didn't say he hated the Scottish you biggot...
Marfor (Son Of Lucifer) He is saying that he does not want a group to be Scottish.
Thing is, the ‘union jack’ is only called that when it’s flown on a British Royal Navy vessel, otherwise it’s called the union flag
actually by act of parliament its called the Union Jack on land
3 years later, u are the amazing youtuber ur today
I’m a descendant of the Fitzgerald family. My grandma’s last name before she married was Uniat-Penrose-Fitzgerald and her dad and ancestors came from Corkbeg, Cork, Ireland. Her dad died when she was 9 years old and he was an admiral in the navy and also wrote a few books while at sea.
are you still a noble
@@raptorfromthe6ix833 No.
This was his first video
Johninator123 HD Yes
Poor Wales! Ahah
Once removed the blue from the Jack, the field of the lower half may just be green! Why not? It would be even better-looking than just white!
+bob builder St David's flag has never been used to represent Wales
It would look horrible
The union jack is just 3 flags put together that's it
Better than just 3 LINES put together like most other flags
Orientation of the Cross of St. Patrick (red X) which was added last: "As Scotland joined the Union nearly two hundred years before Ireland, St Andrew's Cross was placed uppermost in the top quarter nearest the flagstaff, this being the most honourable position according to heraldry." (Red follows white in he diagonals as you move around the flag clockwise)

Yes man.
I would be in tears if Scotland took their colour away from the Union Flag, Also New Zealand are legends for voting to keep it
Yes, I’m glad we didn’t change it in the end.
Thank you for that video saved me alot of time searching and reading!
Past RLL had such a CGP grey feel.
Only og's know that the thumbnail changed.
It's actually known as the Union flag. It's only referred to as the Union Jack when used on Navy ships.
Thank you, someone knows.
Nope, it's officially known as the Union Jack.
Portsmouth, Born and raised, That's a Navy city if you didn't know, If you are a "filthy Londoner" I am not surprised you've never heard Union Flag before.
I call it both but I thought Union Jack was used more but nvm.
