Berkeley Kite Festival 2015

- A kite flyers perspective of the Annual Berkeley Kiting event. Interest in the competitive aspect of kiting seems on the wane. Multi line flyers are more attuned to team flying, communal flying, kite ballet and exhibition slack line kiting. Those who have the interest and the money gravitate toward the larger show kites. The great majority of attendees wish to relive old memories and create new ones for their children- a hard sell in today's electronic world.
Nevertheless, the prospect of a no admission day of family fun in the cool marine air is an irresistible magnet. The 30th Annual BKF was a success.
I was right there in Berkeley! ... but couldn't get off work that weekend. I waited all year 4 the kites. So: Thanks 4 taking the trouble 2 record & edit this video of that event/ post it here 4 us ! I really enjoyed it
+Kamalakrsna Devi My pleasure! Next time, look me up and say Hi!

Some impressive kites on display. Looked like a great couple of days.
It was a good time. Friendly kite flyers swapping stories and kiting tips and tricks. Can't be beat!
Wow, Now that was impressive. Kites, Kites and more kites. Kites of all shapes and sizes, A super collection. A very well made video, Thanks for sharing.
Those big fish Kites wandered a bit in the fresh winds, Graham. We had fun.
Very fine festival impressions. The spot with the far skyline looks great. It was most impressive not to see all the different kites only, but also all the people doing things and having fun. The white sleddies (and some Eddies?) obviously brought lots of joy to all the children. A great kite meeting, indeed. Thanks for showing, Glenn.
We think alike, Michael. I was surprised that the make and take sleddies worked as well as they did. Big smiles for the sponsors, I think.
Awesome video editing and music !
Thanks, James. I am glad you commented. I am looking forward to more kiting experiences.
A great event, Glenn. Can it really be a year since the last one? Time is flying faster than I can fly kites.
Could you imagine the spectacle if the brotherhood of trilobite flyers did a Berkeley takeover? We would make history!
Kites , kites everywhere I don't know were to look. What a great event with kites large and small. Wonderful filming of the families & children enjoying themselves. Where the children making sled kites ? I could see a sky full. Loved the enthusiasm of the Japan contingent.Loved Cherie's new Jellyfish. Glenn you looked rather contemplative mixed with maybe some tiredness at the end. A wonderfull shot of Mr Fox with the city in the background. Sorry not sure what the nail clippers are for?
Going to have to watch again.
Clever doctors! A certain medical group sponsored the sled kite make and take workshop. There were hundreds of sleds, each carrying the printed contact information. I recommend nail clippers for picking out knots with the pointy fingernail file. The clippers are better used to trim lines though. I agree that my final shot seemed pensive. It's just what the camera saw.
thanks for this vid.. we missed bkf this year, maybe next year. probably see you around at kite party in March.
Az Kiter We will meet at WSIKF, no doubt? Look us up when you get settled.
No WSIKF for us this year either, kids are in school and can't leave by myself. We took a 2 day trip to San Diego last weekend. Have fun at WSIKF. take some videos :)
You got it!
Hey, I have one of those hats at 14:13, just not sure if I have the pink ribbon for my vest to be Cool like You!
It's hard work to look this good for this long, LOL!
Great video as usual! I wonder how many people were there, certainly looked like a lot. Those new jellies Cherie made are certainly more attractive than the plain white ones. We really need this drought to be over so that there are green fields to fly on out here. I will make it to BKF one of these days.
You were missed. It is a long and miserable drive from SD to there. Long and not so miserable from Nipomo.
FINALLY!!! 6:29 I have one of those!!
Shunto99 Enjoy your new sled kite. They are very useful kites!
I will!!! I like sled kites... lovely kites..
It could be wrong, but according to Googley Translator, Bol means Bowl, without the Dubya!
French for coffee cup, or so they say.
@@PanyingPilot It's probably as French as the Fries & Toast we make in America! : )
What fun. Go fly a kite.
KAM Hyde Yes, kites keep you active. Activity leads to longer life. Let's fly kites!
Thanks so much for posting this beautiful tribute to an ancient yet modern tradition.
