    Had a hell of time finding info about this ice maker and the knocking noise issue. This video (and subsequent comments) was a gold mine. Thx so much for posting.

    Thank you very much for the great instructions. Last night it took me 30 minutes to replace it. Super easy. This morning I have ice cubes. Thanks a lot!!!

    Been struggling with a Bosch B36FD50SNS ice maker since Jan 2022. I had every control board replaced and ice maker replaced 2 times under warranty by Bosch - you should see the pile of parts in my basement. Now that the 1 yr Bosch warranty is up I need to call the Home Depot extended warranty team since the ice maker is getting intermittent again. What an awful design - thanks for posting the instructions - I was here when the repair man came to replace it and he forgot about the screw on the bottom holding the cooling coil and was trying to pull it out. Then last time he came he left the black crush/cube connector unplugged so I had to fix that myself. If the maker is stuck on crush then that plug is not connected.
    I used to get the E2 error alot but last time I had the loud clicking sound. I decided to swap the PCB from the clicking one into one that would get the E2 error. Seems like that might work. Also I removed the small 12V DC motor from a bad one and opened it up. THere are a lot of plastic gears in that motor and they are small to give the 85 to 1 ratio looks like a swiss watch. I bet that is where a lot of the failures are and those motors are a model 30BYJ46 and thinking about ordering some form aliexpress they are only $4

    Thank you for making this video. My ice maker kept making an annoying knocking/popping noise before dumping ice into the tray. I was able to follow along from watching your video to remove the ice maker. When removed, I opened up the front area of it and exposed the 3 gear wheels. Notice the larger gear slides back and forth moving the entire mechanism that pushes the ice. After adding an object into the cover that hides these gears, it’s now more firmly holds the larger gear wheel in place. It’s been 24 hours and no more noise. Hopefully it says this way moving forward.

      @@m4johnso im going to try the best i can describe it. On the inside of the cover that covers the gear wheels, there is a hollow female receptacle where the male part (protrusion on the flat surface) of the bigger gear wheel fits into, this is how it stays in place from the factory im assuming . I cut a plastic dry wall anchor that was almost the same width as the female part and put it into the hole. So now that the plastic wall anchor is the hole, when i put the cover back on it fits very snug since the male part is firmly against the wall anchor and there is very little movement of the ice maker dispenser mechanism.

      @@SpaceCoastRoadGlide did you ever get an E2 error along with this noise? Once I get the E2, it stops making ice.

    • @SpaceCoastRoadGlide
      @SpaceCoastRoadGlide 2 місяці тому

      @@JonnyAbs-0 yes I did get an E2 error at various times in the past. Sometimes it occurs when an ice cub gets stuck when being dispense from the maker into the tray, or just randomly after hearing the knocking sound. I reset the circuit breaker and its back to normal unless there a stuck cube that has to be removed. My theory is the knocking sound is caused by the gears struggling to turn due to the alignment, and when it fails to fully turn to dispense the ice then the E2 error occurs.

      did it fix the issue, or does the new maker do the same thing? I saw you were asking SpaceCoastRoadGlide about his fix to tighten the gears in place when the cover is put back on.

    Thanks for the video. We have the exact same one and yesterday it stopped producing ice. WE have it since a few weeks and so far it worked perfectly. No error messages and water is still working. I contacted the bosch support but so far no answer. What would be the first thing in your opinion to check?

    My ice maker is also making the clicking noise but it is still making ice. There is ice in the small gap under the ice maker and also under the ice tray. Is that also common when the ice maker has this issue?

      When taking the front cover off, I don’t see a screw on the bottom in the back. Do some models not have one? Also, after removing the screw in the front, the cover still doesn’t want to come off. Is there a trick to getting it off without breaking anything?

      I tried prying around slightly but didn’t want to damage the cover or roll the edges prying around. I only see one screw in the front holding the cover on. I wasn’t sure if there are any that I’m not seeing. My thoughts were to remove the existing ice maker and take a look to see if I could see what was making the clicking sound. The ice maker still makes ice but it’s just loud. Sounds just like a plastic gear skipping a tooth.

      Yes, knocking sound. Just don't know whether to replace the ice maker or the motor. Making like a gear knocking, stripping sound.

      Pulled the ice maker out thanks to the instruction. Took cover off and exposed the plastic gears and found that the pin that holds one of the gears was backed out causing the gears to be wobbly. Pushed the pin back in and it's tight. Turned the water back on. I was sure I was going to produce ice but 24 hrs later, NO ICE.
      At least, I did find one problem.
