    So many farming towns in the US would open their arms to embrace a draw like Jeremy's farm. Not sure how local councils can put their own interests ahead of bettering the community. They need to be removed from their positions.

      They can't, legally. Tried anyway though.

      It’s actually changing in American towns. We are in the southeast in a colonial historic town. But the local city Council disbanded the ag board, and they are trying to convert all the farm fields to solar farms. They have been dragging their feet to approve any permits for meat, processing or other kinds of farm support services.

    The most frustrating part to me is that Jeremy OBVIOUSLY has his heart in the right place. I understand these councils being distrusting of a multi-millionaire coming in and changing everything, I really do. But he's trying to HELP. Clearly. Like with the restaurant that would use local produce, and he wanted to make a parking place to keep the tourists from clogging their rural roads. That doesn't sound like Mr MoneyBags coming in and flattening the landscape to put up a mini-mall to me. THATS WHAT THE GOVERNMENT WANTS TO DO! He's the opposite of that. How can they not see that part?

      @shanehebert396 Місяць тому +2

      In season 3, he admitted (and they included in video) that he started out in farming as a joke, so the councils were right being skeptical at first. But he's changed over time, which is what I enjoy seeing most in his show.

    I hate it when Brexit is blamed..... The EU does not have a monopoly on the world, it has nothing to do with Brexit and everything to do with a useless government and apathy of the people.

      Exactly, it was the EEC that destroyed English farms. Small farms were forced to close and that led to massive farms and over farming of useless crops. Who needs acres of grape seed but no wheat or barley.

      For real. As an American living in a rural area. Outside the city limits of a farm town of 3,200 people, that kind of upside-down thinking is impossible for me to comprehend.

    5:10 "The people want the countryside to look like it does, and Farmers made it look like that. I wonder what it'd look like with no farming here.." That's a really really good question Jeremy. Damn they weren't kidding about him saving farming!

    We've learned nothing from WW2 where we couldn't feed ourselves, afterwards we made efforts to revitalize farming..... But now we're just going back to importing everything. The sad thing is because immigration is so high, the land is all being sold off to make houses. I see it around my area, all the farm land being built on as farmers sell up.

    Every constituency has a federal politician asking for your vote, now through July 4. If you think the UK should feed itself, ask what they'll do for farmers.

    • @djjazzyjeff1232
      @djjazzyjeff1232 Місяць тому +2

      100%. I'm from the US, and there are WAY more people here, but you can even still call up your congress person. I know it sounds crazy lol but nobody actually does that, so if you do and you're in their district, you'll very likely get through, as it's quite literally their job to hear you out. I'd reckon it's the same way in the UK perhaps slightly easier as there are much less people that could be trying to get ahold of them.

  • @Vote.ReformUK

    What farmers could do is all group together and refuse to produce food unless supermarkets pay up. However we never seem to do this in this country and farmers just get sold down the river by their unions.

  • @Vote.ReformUK
    @Vote.ReformUK Місяць тому +1

    I do agree with the locals though as have you driven down there since Clarkson set up shop? It's a nightmare for traffic and he's turned a peaceful village into hell for them. People move out there because they do not want it to change, my village has had a giant warehouse site built nearby..... So I understand people wanting to protect their village. What I do not understand is why doesn't Clarkson set up his farm shop somewhere else? It isn't like the food cannot be delivered. It would stop the massive amounts of traffic going through a village that cannot handle it.

    If no one farms then where does the food come from. 😂😂😂😂 Farms sustain the community they are at is how it used to work. This new world view will turn one on the other and who wins? Those that force it into action and sit back and not stop it. 😂😂😂😂😂

    I also hate when climate change is blamed for everything, the climate has always changed and there isn't one year when they weather is like the last. We've always engineered our way out of problems, but for some reason now we've given up on that, decided to blame this invisible thing that we've only been measuring for a hundred years and just taxed everyone more. Flooding happens because of us, when you see towns flooded it is because we've built too much and not upgraded the drainage and the rivers. Droughts happen because we haven't built enough reservoirs to keep up with demand and lack of power happens because we've not built any new nuclear power stations in decades. They'll blame climate change for the lack of power on solar and wind soon.... Yeah the technology is no good for the masses.

    The EU is making governments in the union also to get rid off farmers. So Brexit or not, most of the farmers would have to go any way.

      CHYNA is buying up record numbers of acres of farmland for 🤨 whatever they please (coffin apartments, Covid concentr- uh camps, federally owned, commercial scale farming of soy/vegan products, etc.), and it's going the way of famine and death. I've heard about that kinda thing in a really old book, huh.

    Subsidies don't come from the EU, they come from UK taxpayers paying for food twice, and paying for other people's food all over Europe - the UK was a _massive_ net contributor to the EU's budget; not as much as some but massive all the same, we could have chosen to leave the EU, increased subsidies and still saved vast amounts of money but there is that "subsidies are a bad" issue. The problem is that there was supposed to be a better system in place and the government has been all over the place about what that actually is. Farmers wouldn't go out of business without subsidies but farming _has_ to change, both in the UK and globally, and actually a big part of the show is that Clarkson understands that.

    Regarding the subsidies, the UK paid the EU a massive fee to be a member and a small portion of that money came back to us as subsidies. But we still paid the EU far more than we got back. Now we aren't paying the EU, that money should be paid by the UK government back to farmers. Unfortunately our snouts in the trough politicians don't agree.
