Got this in my reccomended and it immediately piqued my intrigue as a Gen 5 enthusiast. Funnily enough, I've played these games in 2018, being my 6th/5th mainline Pokémon game (if you count or don't count the Ultra games), so I don't really have as much nostagia as say... X & Y, or Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire. My first experience was with Platinum, and I barely remember it even when I revisited them after playing Ultra Moon. I'm doing a third revisit of Platinum and trying to soak everything in, take my time, grind, explore every nook and cranny that the Sinnoh region has to offer, and tackle the daunting Battle Frontier at the very end... but I'm only around Eterna Forest, so that's still very far off from my ultimate goal. Talked a bit too much about MY experiences there, but that's all just to say that even after playing a bunch of the other mainline games, Black & White stands tall as my favorite mainline Pokémon game, and one of my favorite regions of the series. They upped the ante when it came to presentation, along with the story and making it an integral part of your journey to become the Pokémon Champion, rather than the plot serving as an obstacle placed in your way between you and the Hall of Fame. The music is honestly phenomenal in these games. They really went all out for Gen 5 and it shows in both the quality of the new sprites and models in the overworld to the music department. They really wanted you to appreciate the music with how there's a bunch of NPCs that talking to them or even standing next to them ADDS to the music to make it feel even more complete. There is so much more that I could talk about in regards to the 5th generation of Pokémon but this comment has gone on for long enough. I'm overjoyed to see these games still be talked about today, and your review was such a treat to listen to. I can safely say you've got a new subscriber, and I cannot wait for part 2.

My (only issue) was that it could be a bit easy at times. Not a single Gym Leader has more than 3 Pokemon and my Dewott/Samurott could use Razor Shell/Surf and wipe entire Gyms on his own without needing anyone else which made the Gym battles kinda disappointing.
You can argue that with Gen 3 because that happened to me too, but the difficulty definitely peaks in post-game. They wanted you to mostly enjoy the region and its story and then later, especially in BW2, they gave the Platinum levels of difficulty.
@@Brianycus that’s a good point, it was a whole new generation with only brand new designs and a region themed after a new location for the first time so they want you to get used to the Unova region and once players are already have already gotten familiar with it, they up the anty (no clue how to spell it lol) also I appreciate you taking the time to respond even though the video came out weeks ago :)

I actually thought this gen was interesting. I didn’t understand the hate back then and I just thought it was very underrated. And 2 years ago. When my cousin gave up his 3DS. I went hunting for all the pokemon games on DS and 3DS. And I surprisingly and unexpectedly got all 4 gen 5 games. And black 2 game with 2 event Pokemon 😁👍 But I’m about to start a new game file soon after I’m done transferring the pokemon and items over to black 2. I saw many of my collage friends play black and white and I was interested to get into it at that time. But i didn’t have a DS back then. But I’m rambling. You did a great job with your review here of black and white

@@Brianycus fair point. Oshawott was my choice in legends. And their not bad. But since the last person who had the game had a few end game pokemon, I might trade them over to the new save file for testing out. They had 2 Volcaronas so I’m looking forward to trying one out super early.

And if you want my advice for dawn and dusk, which are most tedious but still fun, pick the attack pack for my favorite digimon Growlmon, he bends the game over his knee once he’s a Mega but he’s only in the attack pack and a late game area, speed pack gets early Airdramon, Balance has Angewomon, and Japanese has Reppamon for starter pack, there’s a second digimon too so you get a full battle party in dawn and dusk
I agree with this review. While I don't think the first Black & White game is as masterpiece as many say and I do think the sequel is better, I do think it is an really well done Pokemon game and I think it's better than Gen. 4. This might be an good introduction to the world of Pokemon if you haven't played the series.
Yeah as I'm writing this, I'm almost finishing up B2W2 and it's script and there are a lot of things about those games that are great. But BW was truly out there and I'm glad I can still see it today.
X Y were considered some of the best games when they came out, but now they are seen as complete jokes. How are the same people that said X Y was good in 2013, now say they are awful. Have they really played an actual bad game?
Funny, because I thought they were alright & still think they're alright. I understand the criticism, but I was already exposed to the same problems with Diamond & Pearl, and I feel it was done worse there. 🤷♂️ In the end, Pokémon is Pokémon. Every game is already so similar to each other that we have to fixate on little differences for our preferences. I love the stories of B&W and Sun& Moon, so prefer them even through their tedious moments over the mediocre stories of DPPt & HGSS. Yet I understand the appeal of those games & why they're so beloved.
@@IamMeHere2See I think they all stem on how much of an impact those games made for you growing up or at some point in your life. Platinum & BW made a huge impact on me in terms of how long a video game can be and how the story can make for a fun adventure. But the same can be said with any Pokemon game at the end of the day.
Oh I agree. I played White version as a kid and I found him having Reshiram to be cooler than Zekrom. Though canonically speaking he has Zekrom because he values ideals than truth, which is what Zekrom resembles.
@@Brianycus then again Pokemon generations gave him Reshiram, and the BW2 Animated trailers did as well. Then the anime had him confronting reshiram. Evolutions gave him Zekrom, and the Manga gave him zekrom, so it could go either way 3 depictions of N and Reshiram vs 2 with N and Zekrom Also to N, truth may work more as he believes Pokemon should be free and that they lost their original power by being confined by humans. Being someone who understands Pokemon so well, and the fact that this belief is actually true to an extent makes it to where truth could also be his chosen value. Remember what Cyrus’s research said? “However, capturing the Pokémon with a Poké Ball prevents it from using its full power... But with the Red Chain, the Pokémon can be shackled, and its power can be used without restraint...” Admittedly this may only be true for dialga and palkia, but it is something to consider
@Brianycus I think it was a great idea, but GameFreak definitely overestimated how long a typical person would actually play through the region. Not many people actually got to see a second season in a single playthrough because of how long the seasons lasted
@Brianycus Exactly! Even the post game stuff! Unless you really take your time, it's over before a single season. Though, that's only Black and White. Black 2 and White 2 has so much content that if you do it all, you can easily see two seasons, at least!
To whomever read this, I hope you a have wonderful day and no matter what stay happy as that is what matters most in life, You are truly amazing and no one can ever take that away from you, Be happy and enjoy life, We don't have long on earth so make the most of it, We’re all gonna make it brah 👑
What is so great about this story is that you're seeing themes of what it means to be a Pokemon trainer, something we never fully touched in the previous generations. Some people believe that Pokemon don't deserve to be with humans, like Team Plasma who "liberate" them and others want to build a relationship with them fully like Bianca whenever we encounter her on our journey. The whole game has you proving N wrong who believes in an idealistic world and throughout your journey, you see people responding to N and Team Plasma in their own ways, seeing how important being with Pokemon actually means to people. That and beating Ghetsis who obviously wants to use his plan for evil intentions and rule the world.
Usually stories in Pokemon games were either nonexistent, too simple/basic or terrible, so stories of Gen. 5 pokemon games were kinda great... for the Pokemon standards.
I must add my obligatory "but what about PMD explorers of sky?" And even the rest of the pmd games, though black and white are good. Edit spelling, also i hope pokemon returns to this story telling.
Oh you should watch my Platinum review if you haven't. Trust me the day I make a review on that game, it'll be my longest video ever created. And I'm not ready to do that *yet* haha
@Brianycus sounds good. I hope legends AZ and the next generation can put more focus on story like this. It's still a dream of mine to have another multi region game with stories like soul sliver, platinum and black and white.
I still think its sequel is better and arguably the best in the franchise. Still fits gen is just so good. I remember they hated this gen. For me I believe we’re similar in age and I actually really started with gen four and a little bit of third gen when it was at then end. I genuinely love fourth gen but I feel more nostalgic and felt like I had a better experience in 5th gen.
Thats the same I feel and as I'm finishing BW2, I see more and more. But at the end of the day, it says a lot about the DS era of Pokemon with both generations
I feel bad for all the people that had to grow up with that horrible Digimon rap. In Latin America we had the Japanese music which is so much better. Brave Heart (the evolution music) and Butter-Fly (the intro) are so beautiful.

I am super glad you wrote this comment and enjoyed the video! It's so weird to start hearing people say they find my videos in the recommended nowadays which means a lot to me. i definitely will not disappoint with Part 2!
@@Brianycus One of the times where the UA-cam algorithm did not disappoint, haha. I'll be waiting patiently for part 2, so in the mean time I'll definitely be checking out the rest of your videos. I'll also really love to see what other games you plan to check out next after you wrap up the Pokémon marathon.
Oh you'll definitely see soon 👏🏼💙
Great video man well done
Glad you enjoyed 👏🏼🔥💙
My (only issue) was that it could be a bit easy at times. Not a single Gym Leader has more than 3 Pokemon and my Dewott/Samurott could use Razor Shell/Surf and wipe entire Gyms on his own without needing anyone else which made the Gym battles kinda disappointing.
You can argue that with Gen 3 because that happened to me too, but the difficulty definitely peaks in post-game. They wanted you to mostly enjoy the region and its story and then later, especially in BW2, they gave the Platinum levels of difficulty.
@@Brianycus that’s a good point, it was a whole new generation with only brand new designs and a region themed after a new location for the first time so they want you to get used to the Unova region and once players are already have already gotten familiar with it, they up the anty (no clue how to spell it lol)
also I appreciate you taking the time to respond even though the video came out weeks ago :)
@@XenteBRYeah basically. And on the bottom half of your comment: of course! I do my best to reply to every comment from my videos no matter how old they are.
I'm glad I loved the gen. 5 games.
the hating towards gen. 5 is what lead us to rushed slops that we have today in the Pokemon game series
Me too. It's so weird to keep hearing how much these games were hated back in the day and now everyone suddenly loves them. Wish the sentiment was there frame one ngl.
@@Brianycus Mostly because either those people who onced hated gen. 5 were either get eventually _"burned out"/"Poke-fatigue"_ and leaved the Pokemon franchise or Regretted dunking on Gen. 5 and suddenly switched to the _"love-train"_ in order to save face.
@@moisesezequielgutierrez I guess that makes *some* sense but it's pretty stupid in hindsight because you can say the same with gen 4 or gen 3 and those arguably has their own quirks and flaws.
Yh! This game was great! I played both Black and black 2! Black 2 is my favourite Pokemon game but the Black/white games are amazing
I'M ABOUT TO FINISH WITH BW2 SOON! Glad you enjoyed this one!
And black 2 game with 2 event Pokemon 😁👍
But I’m about to start a new game file soon after I’m done transferring the pokemon and items over to black 2.
I saw many of my collage friends play black and white and I was interested to get into it at that time. But i didn’t have a DS back then.
But I’m rambling. You did a great job with your review here of black and white
I'm glad you enjoyed! Gen 5 is really an acquired taste it seems because many didn't vibe with it until BW2 released and now everyone is praising them to hell and back which is great! but I wished they did this back in the day haha.
@@Brianycus yeah. lol me too. It’s a really fun game. And Snivy is my absolute favorite starter to pick
@@300kyuubi I was always a Tepig and Oshawott guy but someday I'll appreciate the grass snake haha
@@Brianycus fair point. Oshawott was my choice in legends. And their not bad. But since the last person who had the game had a few end game pokemon, I might trade them over to the new save file for testing out. They had 2 Volcaronas so I’m looking forward to trying one out super early.
One of the best pokemon games ❤🎉
Definitely one of the best there is.
When bro said the evolution was like digimon I subscribed, he understands the coexistence of great series
YOU ALREADY KNOW!
Now I gotta review the Cyber Sleuth games someday 😭👏🏼
@@Brianycus start from digimon world ds dusk and dawn, they’re actually called the digimon story series along with cyber sleuth
Edit: if you do plz mention the evolution of gameplay from the panned digimon world 2 what with 3 at a time battles and stuff
Oh I'll consider this for the future! Thanks 👏🏼
@@Brianycus of course!
Does Dawn and Dusk have Gaomon too? I like him a lot because he's like Lucario for me.
I see Emboar, I leave a like
I see you're an Emboar fan haha. Appreciate it!
Real I like emboar to ❤
Hi Brian, great video thanks
You're welcome, much love
I agree with this review. While I don't think the first Black & White game is as masterpiece as many say and I do think the sequel is better, I do think it is an really well done Pokemon game and I think it's better than Gen. 4. This might be an good introduction to the world of Pokemon if you haven't played the series.
Yeah as I'm writing this, I'm almost finishing up B2W2 and it's script and there are a lot of things about those games that are great. But BW was truly out there and I'm glad I can still see it today.
Pokémon are like firearms, plasma wants you to give them up so only they have them
Huh...never thought of it that way lmao
SNIVY DISS IS WILD
ITS FACTUALLY CORRECT
All I do nowadays is play Black and White, and watch content about Black and White. I’m a sicko
Then I hope you subscribed and are eager to see my Black 2 White 2 review ✌
X Y were considered some of the best games when they came out, but now they are seen as complete jokes. How are the same people that said X Y was good in 2013, now say they are awful. Have they really played an actual bad game?
X & Y or Black & White? Because this video is about Gen 5 my guy...
Still I completely understand the sentiment.
Funny, because I thought they were alright & still think they're alright. I understand the criticism, but I was already exposed to the same problems with Diamond & Pearl, and I feel it was done worse there. 🤷♂️
In the end, Pokémon is Pokémon.
Good video. Personally think that reshiram suits N better, but that’s just me
Evolutions gave him Zekrom, and the Manga gave him zekrom, so it could go either way
3 depictions of N and Reshiram vs 2 with N and Zekrom
Also to N, truth may work more as he believes Pokemon should be free and that they lost their original power by being confined by humans. Being someone who understands Pokemon so well, and the fact that this belief is actually true to an extent makes it to where truth could also be his chosen value.
Remember what Cyrus’s research said?
“However, capturing the Pokémon with a Poké Ball prevents it from using its full power... But with the Red Chain, the Pokémon can be shackled, and its power can be used without restraint...”
Admittedly this may only be true for dialga and palkia, but it is something to consider
Equally distributed too
@@Brianycus masters gave N both but his reshiram had a ribbon and specific outfit, so maybe Nintendo knows something we dont
The seasons change every month, not every four months
I noticed after I started playing BW2! Funny how that's the case.
@Brianycus I think it was a great idea, but GameFreak definitely overestimated how long a typical person would actually play through the region. Not many people actually got to see a second season in a single playthrough because of how long the seasons lasted
Oh yeah. You beat the game three weeks tops
@Brianycus Exactly! Even the post game stuff! Unless you really take your time, it's over before a single season. Though, that's only Black and White. Black 2 and White 2 has so much content that if you do it all, you can easily see two seasons, at least!
To whomever read this,
I hope you a have wonderful day and no matter what stay happy as that is what matters most in life,
You are truly amazing and no one can ever take that away from you,

@@Brianycus
Thanks for the video Brian, it was beautiful
Glad you enjoyed! 👏🏼💙
Confused what is so great about this story. Love love love Gen 5 but can someone tell me why the story is so great?
Exactly. For Pokemon standards.
Cool vid bro
Thanks!
MURICA POKÉMON 🦅🦅🦅
MURICA BABY THAT'S WHY IT'S THE BEST GEN FOR A REASON 👏🏼
I must add my obligatory "but what about PMD explorers of sky?" And even the rest of the pmd games, though black and white are good.
Edit spelling, also i hope pokemon returns to this story telling.
Oh you should watch my Platinum review if you haven't. Trust me the day I make a review on that game, it'll be my longest video ever created. And I'm not ready to do that *yet* haha
@Brianycus sounds good. I hope legends AZ and the next generation can put more focus on story like this. It's still a dream of mine to have another multi region game with stories like soul sliver, platinum and black and white.
I sure hope Legends ZA hones in a good story like Legends Arceus did. We shall wait and see for that one soon!
For me, this is the Gen where Pokémon peaked and it's only been downhill ever since
That's how it is for everyone too...
Random fans got triggered when they get to know there was no Charizard in B&W
I feel bad for all the people that had to grow up with that horrible Digimon rap. In Latin America we had the Japanese music which is so much better. Brave Heart (the evolution music) and Butter-Fly (the intro) are so beautiful.
YOU GUYS HAD BRAVE HEART?! LUCKY!
@@Brianycus Yes, in Latin America we had Brave Heart in Japanese for the evolution sequence and the intro and ending were translated versions of the Japanese songs.
@@AgusSkywalker Man that's just awesome
Yeah, the US dub version for Digimon is just total garbage.
In spain we also had the Japanese soundtrack.
Love it
Glad you did!
while many may disagree bw and bw2 are better than dppt and hgss
As someone who loves Gen 4 to the bottom of my heart, I concede to this comment.
As someone who really loves taoism philosophy and concepts, this is my favourite generation
