    Unpopular opinion: I've watched this comparison twice and I still think that Vivo X90 Pro+ is the best one here, with a more versatile camera system & photography modes. S23 Ultra and X90 Pro+ have different approaches to photography and it might be just a matter of personal taste which one you prefer... With Vivo, you can choose between the Vivo Vivid Colours and Zeiss Natural Colour Mode. Not the mention so many different styles and settings for portrait photography, supermoon and astrophotography, and so on... In the photos where the umbrella appears, I can clearly see the texture of the material from which the umbrella is made only on the Vivo and Huawei phones. Also, there are quite a few photos from S23 Ultra where the sky is quite noisy... I had previously owned Vivo X70 Pro + and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. I gave up on the last one because the pictures were less detailed, and noisier (especially the sky in both day & night time photography), with poorer night mode results, fewer details in macro mode, and blurry images of the subjects on the move because of shutter lag etc. And I can see this trend is kept the same in the S23 Ultra's results here. Vloggers usually tend to praise Samsung and iPhone, but real-life results are all that matter. I still remember how disappointed I was when I had both S21 Ultra & S22 Ultra and I felt betrayed by all those specialised reviewers who were always considering these "the best smartphone cameras".

    The fact is that Huawei stopped using RGB sensors long back, They've been using RYYB sensor so the yellow complextion in pictures is common in it but losing points for that reason sucks😢

    Is this a joke? what a bias review, deducted points for vivo for having too much clarity? LOL you don't like front facing camera to be soft, but you like ultra wide camera soft and dislike the sharper ones?

    • @versus_com
      @versus_com  Рік тому

      Too much clarity means the photo is oversharpened, which leads to every single line, mark, wrinkle, etc. being shown. It looks unnattural. There's also a difference between soft and blurry.

    • @hotpotgang
      @hotpotgang Рік тому +2

      @@versus_com In this case it was not over sharpened, s23 just has more resolution from the binned sensor and better lens glass which resolved better details. You should not review cameras quality without basic photography knowledge.

    The narrative for me in these analysis is does a camera phone have to have a one inch sensor to be great?

      @UzumakiNaruto_ Рік тому

      Not everyone is in love with Samsung software though. Most people are probably fine with it, but not like most think its the best UI out there.
      Also when it comes to prolonged use, Vivo really nailed it with its cooling in the X90 when during a 20 min 3D mark Wildlife stress test it only lost about 10% of its performance while the S23 Ultra lost close to 40% of its performance. So while the S23 scored the highest performance numbers it also lost alot of that performance over time compared to Vivo that maintained the most consistency and lost very little of its performance over time.

    Whilst I still prefer the Pixel image processing, as a S23 Ultra owner who sent back a S22 Ultra due to poor camera performance, I am happy with the S23 Ultra's results. I've been taking photos that would look horrible in the S22 Ultra (But it was an Exynos so that didn't help in certain situations)
    Anyway, I am happy with the S23 Ultra. But I am still installing a Gcam port in it and try to make it take photos as close to a Pixel 7 Pro as possible.

      Does the Gcam actually take better photo? I tried Gcam on S22U but it kinda takes similar photo (Snapdragon)

    • @DavidWilson-fr1et
      @DavidWilson-fr1et Рік тому

      @@xsky134 It depends on the configuration file you put in. By default, it doesn't take photos that are any better than the default camera, maybe even worse. It also depends on the user's preference. If you think a Pixel takes better photos than the default Samsung camera, than you'll likely prefer Gcam.

    I might not change the end result, but comparing portrait photos with completely different standard effectiveness strength of bokeh effect seems to be a tradition among reviewers. 5:25 Especially, Xiaomi suffers from not trying to calibrate the phones to deliver the same amount of bokeh effect and we are thereby to some degree just evaluating the wrong standard settings.

    • @versus_com
      @versus_com  Рік тому +2

      We tend to leave the bokeh on the setting that the phone (software) prefers. Otherwise, we'd have to get into manually adjusting pretty much everything. Still, you make a good point. Maybe we could try lowering or increasing the bokeh on phones that there are issues with.

    Is the noise reduction issue only related to the s23u or did the s22u do it also? And is it even worse in windy conditions or just related to the level of background sounds?

    • @versus_com

      We just have this issue with the S23. The S22 didn't do this - but overall the S23 is a way better phone.

      This is curious, in a number of reviews the outdoor audio recordings of S23 Ultra are on par or better than iPhone 14 Pro Max in terms of noise reduction, ambient sounds are barely discernable which can be a plus or minus though.
      There are several reviews where the s23 ultra audio recordings seem muffled, like in this one. One reviewer (Golden Reviewer) noted this happened in his video because of an ill fitting case was obstructing the mics.

    • @TechMikkel
      @TechMikkel Рік тому +1

      @@collinleach What is the test setup to reproduce recordings that is muffled? I tried talking in strong wind. I tried talking with street noise. This was done handheld and the rear camera pointing at me. I tried indoor with longer distance using a tripod with a loud tv in the background and s22u as reference. Still, I have not got any muffled recordings, but I have probably not reproduced the same scenario. Here is some pure speculation: My tests ware done after installing the new camera assistant app and I could try to remove it … However, it seems to be too far out to believe that the new camera assistant offers a fix.

    • @collinleach
      @collinleach Рік тому +1

      @@TechMikkel most of the top tech reviewers have very clear voice audio pickup in outdoor scenerios. But no one (except dxomark) ever indicates what audio settings are used, and if the mics are obstructed. I wish reviewers would have as much or more attention towards audio functions as they do on cameras, there's no substitute for phones, we already have options for great cameras!
