I think the reason I like these shorts is because they mirror the same mentality that employers view employees. It nicely reverses the perception of control and shows how unfair the relationship can be.
Shoot, I don't even pick up for random numbers, even if they're "verified". Like seriously, you're going to checkmark a phone number like it's Twitter?
AI is here, waiting them to Fire Verconica. The younger generations are smart talking, (or maybe using the loopholes, that employers will NOT need with a robot), their way out of a job, keep going, you will arrive, empaths. ❤
I don't even answer numbers I don't have recorded in my phone, let alone private calls, if it's important, who ever it is, will leave a voicemail or text.
@@Gunter_Customomg same lmao. I started getting a ridiculous amoun5 of scam calls after Covid hit and changed my voice-mail and stopped answering unknown numbers very quickly after that with only some exception. Ie I'm expecting a call from someone that day that I know their office shows up as private or restricted. XD
My Samsung phone has a wonderful option on the "do not disturbed" feature. It basically blocks all numbers except the few people I want to be able to get hold of me. Works like a charm.
I do the same but I always check the voice messages immediately, just in case it's someone I would pick up for calling from a different phone, as they might if they had to borrow a phone in a wonky situation. For example: my husband's phone's battery is dead, his car has an issue, and he needs me to come pick him up.
You're nice. All private calls are blocked on my phone. Also, "special" numbers get unique ringtones so I can decide how to handle them without even looking at the phone.
That's cool. I haven't needed it scammers aren't persistent and jobs tend to leave me alone. Now days you don't need 2 phones pay $10 extra dollars to have a second line for business or whatever.
A loooong time ago my boss called me at home on a Friday and told me he needed me to come back to work. I informed him that I had already had 3 beers since clocking out a 4:30. He said "I don't care. Get back as quick as you can." This wouldn't be such a scary story except I was a School bus driver.
My supervisor did that too 😂. I don’t answer numbers I don’t know, so they would leave a voicemail or text. The employee would claim we were good friends just to get my number. I told my supervisor we would have to take this to the manager because it’s against the law to give out employees information. She stopped doing it.
My husband just answers mine and tells them we’re busy. He’s far more abrupt than I. They don’t like it and once tried to tell me I shouldn’t have him answering their calls. I told them they don’t dictate my marriage or personal life and to butt out before I took them down the harassment route.
This has actually happened to me before. I answered cause it wasn't the work number and then had to go through the stupid song and dance of 'no. I am NOT coming in on my day off'
The ones that crack me up are when nobody came in to relieve me when we were slammed nd short the other day. Why should I do that for them? No. Figure it out. I had to.
You put so much into work. It's like you live to work. You got your experience and degree to work. You still got some homework. Planning driving to and from work. Your entire day is work. When I get off work I'm done. Take care of any that comes up tomorrow. I put my work in but when I'm off I'm off!
That’s what I do too😂! They already know if you calling me you better have a good offer on the table. Sometimes I decline the offer, and they will text me higher pay 😂. I work in healthcare, so some of the clients require a lot of care on 12 hour shifts.
Best advice I was ever given was never give your employer your contact info, because the only reason they'll ever need to contact you on them will be to try to ruin your days off. Buy a cheap burner phone and set up an email address that's ONLY for job applications. Once you get a job, log out of the email and turn the phone onto silent.
I drive a school bus. I have had parents demanding that I give them my personal cell number. I always say the same thing. "All work related communication must go through the school district and I can answer my phone while operating a school bus anyway."
I had this when I worked for House of Fraser. The manager called me on a Saturday trying to get me to come into work whilst I was writing my dissertation. I said no, and then he said “we will talk about this when you’re back!”. I then proceeded to call them incessantly throughout that day to annoy them
I had all of management on do not disturb mode at my last job. They always used to joke about how I didn’t one to talk to them. Finally at one point, I said you’re right, I don’t to talk to you or even think about work on my days off.
That's why when my favorite things to do on Saturdays is just get hammered drunk at 7:00 a.m. fast forward my boss tries to call me in on a Saturday it's nope I'm drunk
I told my old boss when i was part time that i wouldn't pick up extra shifts after they cut my hours. They told me i wasn't being a team player. I said no you gave hours to people that don't show up and cut someone who does that sounds like a you problem.
I would answer private calls, mainly on the second attempt to reach me indicating it may be important, however like Joan I have no problem telling them exactly how I feel.
Ok not having homework or HAVING to do things for people that aren’t my family at home or on my day off is why I became an adult don’t call me off the clock
Been there done that if you're a salaried employee they will use that against you to force you to work on your days off always with the threat implied that if you don't then it could result in the loss of your employment even if it's illegal being a salaried employee there are hidden clauses that allow an employer to do this and get away with it
Boomers would say this is disrespectful and the problem with the world today. I say it’s shit like this is why we have such rampant corporate/company greed and too often people, such as myself, have been made to feel obligated to bail out their bosses in a bad situation, yet that same boss won’t hesitate to get rid of us in a moment’s notice should they need to. Always have boundaries and force them to respect them. As long as you’re doing your job, there’s nothing they can do. One thing I do wish would be illegal in the US is companies being allowed to add “and other tasks as needed” to job descriptions. It would put a stop to a lot of these types of messes.
They need a 2 week notice from you for a day off,if it's approved, they require 24hr notice in the event of illness or family problems........ I require 48hrs notice if im to be asked to work outside of my previously scheduled hours for the period....and have to get approval from myself before i will consent to covering hours
I think if you do shift work with an hourly wage, it's okay for a manager or supervisor to call and ASK if you'd like to help them out and pick up some extra hours, but as soon as 'no' leaves your mouth, the conversation is over. Asking why not or trying to persuade you is overstepping.
it's my personal time. what are you doing? it's personal😂😂😂 the other answer I like is boss: can you come in today vernica: no, it's my day off boss:well I need you and I'll make it mandatory veronica: you cant, thats illeagal. all o.t. is optional,
Who pick up for a number they don't know thise days. Its 100% gonna be a scammer. Better just ignore it. If I don't know them after looking it up or they don't leave a message explaining then they are ignored like the scammers they likely are.
Lol, I blocked my former boss because of crap like this and questioning why I wasn't always available at her disposal and whim. She remained blocked 2 years until she begged me to take it off and then I gave her a list of times and days per my work schedule, that she could call me.
Yall must have some wierd bosses. 7am to 330pm is work. After that my boss calls me and says hey were doing (insert fun item here wanna join) example sunday boss called me bring your jetskis to work after were all going to the beach.. boss. I got to get em out of storage. So? Show up 2 hrs late. And bring em. Every1 is bringing their toys... alright. Gotcha
I barely answer the phone for people I like, ain't no way. Let that number show up private. I won't even pick my phone up off the couch, too many scams up out here for me to answer a private number.
I used to work with a guy who had a saying: "Someone calls me on a private number and I'm going to respect their privacy and refuse the call"
I like that I might try this with my phone.

because you all are insecure cowards without any assertivty
I let them leave me a voicemail if it's really important >:)
Only legit people i know that use private number is police. All other are sketchy.

I love Veronica she tells it like it is. Telling her manager no and speaking up.
I have 2 phones. 1 for work and a personal phone. The work one gets turned off and put on the charger until monday morning when i pick it up again.
Honestly sounds like a good investment
Same w/ me. I turn it off at 5pm on Fridays and turn it bac on at 8:30am on Mondays.
I do the same
That's cool. I haven't needed it scammers aren't persistent and jobs tend to leave me alone.

Veronica is a hero. But I don't ever answer a number not in my phone. If it's important, they can leave a voicemail or text me.
Exactly ❤
4 words: Sorry, I'm already drunk.
That's bloody brilliant 👍
Exactly. Fortunately ... unfortunately? ... it's usually true.

Is there a reason you can't come in? *YES BECAUSE I'M OFF TODAY*
It drives me nuts when they ask why you can't come in. "It's my day off. What I do on my own time, off the clock, is not your business."
I found the question offensive. I don't have to justify anything to them.
Honestly why i just have a track phone for work contact that i turn off when i have days off so they dont hsve my real number

Veronica’s response is soooooo satisfying ❤️❤️❤️
Never answer a private number to your mobile. It's probably spam or an annoying person!
It was an annoying person 😆😆

This has actually happened to me before. I answered cause it wasn't the work number and then had to go through the stupid song and dance of 'no. I am NOT coming in on my day off'
On my day off, I don't answer work numbers or any number I don't recognize especially "private" ones. 😊
Yeah, you have to do that with companies or they’ll totally take advantage of you. 👍

No Call No Answer No Problem!
Managers have to make up for lost employees. They make more money than the rest.
"No" is a complete sentence, Joann.
The first mistake was picking up a private call. Second was not immediately hanging up upon realizing who it was. LoL
