@@TheRealDannAlexander In my opinion, he should have made a mini album. There are some incredible songs on this album but there are also 2 or 3 boring tracks.

@@TheRealDannAlexander i remember that upon listening to "selfless" my friend, a professional musician, came to conclusion "their drummer is so precise. guy's a real gem.". he was a kind of a hater of all electronic instrumentation. true rock aristry believer: a guitar(s), bass, good old trusty marshalls/peaveys ("no homemade transistor crap just good old lamps"), drums and vocals. so imagine the look on his face when i told him that there's no drummer just a drum machine on every godflesh recording (it was back in 1995 or early 1996 before "songs of love and hate" came out), he was even going to let himself to buy "selfless" and give a pass these few synth passages and samples on that recording because of that "precise drummer". it was a funny evening, later on i played him "psalm 69" by ministry and he shouted at me to stop playing "that drum machine crap" and there was another stupid look on his face when i calmly explained to him that there played real drummer on simmons electronic drums amongst other kits. after that evening that guy severed his friendship with me and called me "antimusical asshole" (we were friends since preschool, so that one evening sent more than fifteen years of friendship down the drains). i did it on purpose because we both independently went into world of making music - he as musician and composer, me as sound guy and composer - and i tried to explain to him that what he had heard on his beloved metallica or nu-metal records were effects of work of studio technicians as much as wanking on instruments in rehearsal room by musicians. that's the thing that never got into his mind and maybe that's why he still plays in cover bands (emulating metallica or deftones songs every fucking time is not playing anything original) and in his late forties he still thinks that it is some kind of conspiracy against talented musicians like himself by talentless hacks like me to stop him from making a great career and zillions of dollars and euros.
but back to "selfless" back in the middle of 1990s it was the most accessible record by godflesh to people who never heard of it. two of my girlfriends back then became die hard fans for life of that band because of "xnoybis", "body dome light", "mantra" and "go spread your wings". i remember that during techno parties (we set up in forest adjoining our district or somewhere on beaches past our metropolitan area or in rented sheds - really weird places), when the acid techno part was starting my dj friends played "crush my soul" amongst london acid techno bangers and those dancing high as kites went mad every time to that tune (well, we were guys and gals who grew up on punk and metal and ventured into industrial, noise, techno and experimental electronics and jazz both as fans and as musicians/technicians).

Don’t forget to listen to the Merciless EP. That is an essential EP. I was lucky enough to see them play Merciless recently. Phenomenal. The entire venue was blown away when they finished that set. We need an HD bootleg of the 2019 tour to surface.

Justin Broderick is such a bad ass when he was young he shaved his head not because he was going bald like everyone else, just because he could. Now that he's in his fifties he chooses to grow his hair long just to prove to us he was bald by choice!
