I have never listened to Godflesh before. I had heard the name a couple of times, so I randomly decided to click on this performance today and HOLY SHIT.....I am not sure I have even the right words to describe this and how I need this band in my life now forever.
This was my christmas gift to my mom. Godflesh is one of the many bands that she has introduced me to. We were both blown away. She was so stoked to stand by the stage and to hear Streetcleaner and I Me Mine live, it made me so happy to see her that happy. I’m glad that I can connect with her through music.
i lost my mind when at the los angeles show last year i head the filtered breakbeat of "i, me, mine" it was a moment i've waited for since highschool. i felt like i'd been transported out of my body, it was absolutely surreal. i was so lucky to meet them after the show. i explained to them how that opening track of "us and them" and the entire album was the reason i bought my first drum machine. he said they hadn't played it in 20yrs til that night and i assured him they chose the best night to bring it back. my heart fucking sank when that filtered breakbeat started under the feedback dissonance. very few live show moments have ever compared to this, in fact probably none besides the very first seconds of "pinion" into "somewhat damaged" performed entirely behind the curtain showing silhouettes only, at my first nine inch nails show on the fragility 2.0 tour. i had accepted that i'd never hear "i, me, mine" live. i'm so grateful they have decided to resurrect it. it's hands down my fav track of godflesh and is to blame for my entire taste and way of thinking in my own work for years, as it prompted me to get a drum machine. it's awesome when i hear of anyone equally excited by that track or album. "us and them" + "world lit" are my two top albums, both are relatively unpopular in the godlfeshverse.
In 1989, at the record store I happened upon the Streetcleaner CD and bought it because some record store employee had put a label on it which said "This will flay the skin off your back". Thank you, record store employee. Thank you.

This sounds amazing. Excelent job but you cant imagine how this guys sounded live. Pure loudness and the bass hits you in the chest all the time. Seen Godflesh playing live its a MUST.
Swans was hugely important to these guys. Big Black was an influence as well, but even more so, they've been very open about how their drums and rhythms are based on 80s hip-hop, RUN DMC and Public Enemy and such. They're such a wonderful mishmash of noise

Действительно,это индастриал такой каким должен быть. Два человека создают нам потрясающие звуковые монументы, из которых выстроено апокалиптическое будущее Земли.
I started listening to GoDflesH in 1990. They remain the best band from old Earache roster. These vocals and the effects on them truly emphasize the sheer extremity of the emotions behind the music. Ever moving forward into that stark future envisioned in decades past.💀🎧
Saw Godflesh live for the first time a few months back in Dublin absolutely blew my mind it was like an out of body experience i hope they come back soon beyond amazing.
i've commented this twice in replies to comments already, but in a brief way [los angeles show last year]: the filtered amen breakbeat of "i, me, mine" began, my heart sank and i was transported out of my body. where i was taken felt like the moment i had first heard it, which prompted me to buy my first drum machine and also imagine what it would feel like to experience this track live. 20 something yrs later i had accepted i'd never hear it, so it caught me off guard. it was like being in the moment of hearing it first time, imagining what it would feel like to be in a club with them performing it, and that imagined hope being flawlessly mirrored and in that way it was like experiencing a past memory, but from the future, but in the present. timeless and priceless. met them afterwards, incredibly kind. explaining that i blame that song for buying my drum machine and they said they hadn't played it in 20yrs. which just emphasized this whole time warp feeling. it was magnificent. indeed an out of body experience.
my heart sank when it started at the los angeles show. it's the song i blame for buying my first drum machine. met them both after, told them that. said it was first time played in 20yrs. it was surreal, out of body experience for me. transported me to some other place. it was like existing in a future memory from the past. like as if i was hearing it for the first time and imagining what it would feel like live, but actually experiencing that, in real time. i think because it mirrored exactly what i had for 20+ yrs hoped it would feel like. afterwards it was like this inertia of a rollercoaster and this inner urge to tell everyone you've ever talked to about godflesh to go ride the ride. it was better than any drug high could ever be and that is how it should be.
@@lovedeathdisco I can only fantasize about living that moment that you've described. I've never been able to experience them live at all yet. The ONE band left that I'm dying to see live. Justin and Benny in peak form this evening. Sound system sounds excellent. Can't imagine what it felt like on the floor being this ethereal in a vid. 🤘🤘
I've been to 4 different Godflesh shows and this one was another great one. What felt special, was that Justin seemed less anxious than before and more relaxed. Well the music doesn't come from that place, but he still delivered with G.C. I also liked how the setlist was no full on crowd pleaser set. But if I get to see them another time, I wish I could hear something from song of Love and hate and/or Hymns.

For those who didn't know: the Suicide intro might be a wink to their first ever show having been as openers for Suicide.

G.C. Green is truly an underrated Metal bassist. His bass sound and groove are killer!
GC Green is my argument (along with Bootsy Collins and "Family Man" Barrett) why you don't need more than 4 strings to be heavy
In my house he is a total legend.

As an older listener, I'm hearing elements of Big Black, early Swans and My Bloody Valentine. A great combination.
Swans was hugely important to these guys. Big Black was an influence as well, but even more so, they've been very open about how their drums and rhythms are based on 80s hip-hop, RUN DMC and Public Enemy and such. They're such a wonderful mishmash of noise

And Buddy Holly too. Can you hear it? :D
I hear a lot of Tom Warrior in the guitar work
