I have never listened to Godflesh before. I had heard the name a couple of times, so I randomly decided to click on this performance today and HOLY SHIT.....I am not sure I have even the right words to describe this and how I need this band in my life now forever.
This was my christmas gift to my mom. Godflesh is one of the many bands that she has introduced me to. We were both blown away. She was so stoked to stand by the stage and to hear Streetcleaner and I Me Mine live, it made me so happy to see her that happy. I’m glad that I can connect with her through music.
i lost my mind when at the los angeles show last year i head the filtered breakbeat of "i, me, mine" it was a moment i've waited for since highschool. i felt like i'd been transported out of my body, it was absolutely surreal. i was so lucky to meet them after the show. i explained to them how that opening track of "us and them" and the entire album was the reason i bought my first drum machine. he said they hadn't played it in 20yrs til that night and i assured him they chose the best night to bring it back. my heart fucking sank when that filtered breakbeat started under the feedback dissonance. very few live show moments have ever compared to this, in fact probably none besides the very first seconds of "pinion" into "somewhat damaged" performed entirely behind the curtain showing silhouettes only, at my first nine inch nails show on the fragility 2.0 tour. i had accepted that i'd never hear "i, me, mine" live. i'm so grateful they have decided to resurrect it. it's hands down my fav track of godflesh and is to blame for my entire taste and way of thinking in my own work for years, as it prompted me to get a drum machine. it's awesome when i hear of anyone equally excited by that track or album. "us and them" + "world lit" are my two top albums, both are relatively unpopular in the godlfeshverse.
Swans was hugely important to these guys. Big Black was an influence as well, but even more so, they've been very open about how their drums and rhythms are based on 80s hip-hop, RUN DMC and Public Enemy and such. They're such a wonderful mishmash of noise

Bought Streetcleaner when it was released in 89. Listened countless times. My music tastes have changed now I'm 50. But listened again recently realised age is just a number. This album was and still is a masterpiece. Pure brilliance..

I started listening to GoDflesH in 1990. They remain the best band from old Earache roster. These vocals and the effects on them truly emphasize the sheer extremity of the emotions behind the music. Ever moving forward into that stark future envisioned in decades past.💀🎧
my heart sank when it started at the los angeles show. it's the song i blame for buying my first drum machine. met them both after, told them that. said it was first time played in 20yrs. it was surreal, out of body experience for me. transported me to some other place. it was like existing in a future memory from the past. like as if i was hearing it for the first time and imagining what it would feel like live, but actually experiencing that, in real time. i think because it mirrored exactly what i had for 20+ yrs hoped it would feel like. afterwards it was like this inertia of a rollercoaster and this inner urge to tell everyone you've ever talked to about godflesh to go ride the ride. it was better than any drug high could ever be and that is how it should be.

I' m so happy that Justin is playing that song live. In my own mind, I think it's a huge deal that he's accepting those songs that he so vehemently showed so much contempt for.

I've been to 4 different Godflesh shows and this one was another great one. What felt special, was that Justin seemed less anxious than before and more relaxed. Well the music doesn't come from that place, but he still delivered with G.C. I also liked how the setlist was no full on crowd pleaser set. But if I get to see them another time, I wish I could hear something from song of Love and hate and/or Hymns.
This band has never left more room for mistakes and chaos than on these new albums ...as long as the bass and drum machine are razor sharp ...the noiser, more chaotic the better !

As a long term Ministry fan, Godflesh is either the chicken or the egg, I can't be sure of which and not sure I wanna know. Either way, this is genius. Calm upheaval, a brutally elegant ride. THANKS!

This is a great set, much better sound quality than at the recent London Desertfest show at the Electric Ballroom (where there is often sound distortion). Great to hear the CHE cover also, didn't play that in London.
I read an interview with Broadrick recently and he mentions how they never play stuff off Us and Them because it's his least favourite work he's ever done, finds its "cringey" apparently but seeing I, me, mine appear on recent setlists of theirs gives me hope more songs off that record will appear live, not to mention they have got the loudest best sound I've seen from a heavy band, nobody comes close to live flesh

I know , I heard street cleaner when it first came out at the end of the eighties…. As a thrash/ grind head I didn’t know what to make of it then, it was too far ahead of its time maybe but I got into them a few years later! Heaviest most extreme band ever in my opinion

As an older listener, I'm hearing elements of Big Black, early Swans and My Bloody Valentine. A great combination.
