I am 70 years old and retired and started to learn guitar about 2 months ago. Since I am staying in a remote place, there’s no professional guitarist who I can rely on. Today, when I watched your video on you tube, I understood for the first time what chord progression is. I am much grateful to you. You have explained chord progression so effectively that now I can understand what chord progression is. Thank you so much
God bless you 60 years old here trying to study guitar so I can be useful learning something new to be productive for the remaining years our Lord Jesus Christ will entrust.
So true m8 I watch some and dont tell much just playing but see some video like this and good teaching and understanding .and yep this video so understanding .👍
I think this is the most useful lesson I've seen to opening up a much larger catalogue of songs I can play... Great stuff... My suffering family audience will be very grateful...Many thanks.
I have to say, I have played guitar by ear for many years, and you make everything sound so simple and interesting, I found myself watching this entire video even though I already know everything you covered, but your way of explaining it is first class, thanks so much for posting and I will be passing this video link onto people who ask about guitars, tha ks again from GARRY IN THE UK
Your tutorial is so easy to follow and understand. It's fun to use and I'm looking forward to trying out a new lesson from your channel. Job really well done. I just discovered you this evening, but I'll be seeing you again tomorrow morning. Sincerely Rich Villeneuve
This is the best lesson I've seen . It is explained so well . Thank you so much. Marie in Ireland 67 years old and learning guitar during Covid lockdown
Great lesson... I totally understand the concept. I think i'm going to make myself create a chart for the whole shebang... minors, majors, sharps ,flats, whatsitdoodles and diminutive diminishing diminished etc... I was playing with the chart and thought 'oh what about B' and worked in out in a heartbeat because I could see the pattern the next one would be in etc... that was an incredible learning moment for me. I realized I can finally see "the pattern" of music.... something I struggled with for a very very very long time. I've know people who pic ked up a guitar played better than my YEARS within three months. I'm an intelligent guy. I'm well aware that I don't even know what i don't even know about life, the universe and everything..... but I've always had some kind of Jedi mindblock when it came to understanding music, the patterns behind it all etc .. Now I won't say this video is the single lightbulb moment of it all but it is a damn good video about a damn handy concept peoples. It teaches you a "shortcut" that just by virtue of existing teaches you the theory behind it. Now that is some trick. Worth a subscription for me and a worth for you reader !!!....and forget the likey likey smash.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. I'm happy that my idea of "music is actually a lot simpler than some people make it out to be" is starting to come through :)
Hi James, UA-cam recommended you to me and I'm very grateful..Great lesson..I've never been patient on chord progessions so this the first time I watched a full lesson..New sub, much appreciated
Excellent work James, thanks for sharing in simplicity, one of the basic steps to enjoying this instrument, your guitar sounds so good, what brand and model is it, thanks
Iv been messing /playing my acoustic years and now im really trying to up my game. I felt this video and explanations very good, look forward to diving into more of your tutorials. Thanks Love from Ireland
As a long time Nashville musician I am always glad when the Nashville Number System is being promoted. You have done a fine job on your video. It is well done. Unfortunately the scale you are using to teach the NNS 1, 2m, 3m, 4, 5, 6m, 7dim is not correct. This is a widespread misconception about the NNS spread by folks who don't really understand the NNS and probably don't use it on a daily basis in the studio. In the NNS scale all the chords are Major. There is NEVER a time when the 2, 3, or 6 are automatically minor. In the NNS the 2, 3, 6, and 7 chords are Major chords. The 7 is NEVER automatically played as a diminished. In jazz and popular music the ii is typically played as a minor chord. And this is also correct if you dive into music theory...In a Major key the supertonic triad (ii) is minor. BUT NOT IN THE NNS! I suppose this where the confusion originates. You seem to be sincere in your effort to teach the NNS and so I thought I would send you this information so you can research it further and get it right. Best to you!
please explain how to move from the simple chords, to the more complex ones......in order sweeten the melody and be specific about the effect one would like to impose in say, the music he's/ she's writing.
I'm not a complete noob so I knew this stuff BUT... If this vid had been around a long tine ago, it sure woulda saved me a lot of time! Well done & new sub here!!
Thank you good Sir! 🙏🏾 For this fantastic explaining with Animacion from the numbers and the chords progression, learn so much today.👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Muchas gracias 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Not related to the video but I just have to say Thank you for being the teacher who taught layla in a manner that made a beginner like me not give up.🙂
My instructor went through this at my latest lesson - at my request. We're doing jazz guitar and heavy music theory. You do such a great job at breaking it down. I specifically wanted to understand the Taylor Swift song Treacherous (specifically how she created such emotion in the song). He basically said - chord progression. Forget the melody. Improv the melody if you want, but it's all about the chord progression. He was so right.
Good Guitarist, thank you ever so much. I don't have a problem with the cords, what I am having a problem with, is the strumming pattern! My strumming does not sound like yours, can't get it right!!

Wow, thank you!
Mabuhay ka IDOL.
Good fundamentals.
James where do i find the pateron page. I am a student of yours and love your teaching style.
My instructor went through this at my latest lesson - at my request. We're doing jazz guitar and heavy music theory. You do such a great job at breaking it down. This is certainly one way to do it. I'm no expert but I find that using a Circle of Fifths chart is a more straight forward approach.
Sir can you also show basic detail on how to play lead
James, do your lessons show the chart for the finger playing you did at the end, using Em,G,D & A? Or is it only available via the patreon page?
9:35 damn that's the jingle of the french railway station announcement
Good Guitarist, thank you ever so much. I don't have a problem with the cords, what I am having a problem with, is the strumming pattern! My strumming does not sound like yours, can't get it right!!
16:55 Hey, I can almost hear Behind blue eyes by Limp Bizkit there
Please show step by step how to play scale
