When modeling agencies look for new models to sign, they first check for a very specific set of physical criteria. Your looks are definitely the first thing agents evaluate; after all, your face and body are the backdrops for whatever fashion products a potential client is trying to sell. You're the vehicle that carries the product from idea to sale-a way for a potential consumer to imagine herself wearing it.
First and foremost, models typically need to meet the height requirements (women 5'8 - 5'11 and men 5'11 - 6'3), for the most part, women who are slimmer than average are most in demand. Again, we're talking about mainstream here, not niche models such as petite or curve model.
This is one reason that the modeling industry gets such a bad rap: Detractors say the call for thin models promotes an unhealthy, unrealistic body image. While this might be a valid criticism, the fashion industry’s love affair with skinny girls is not part of a conspiracy against average-sized bodies. It's important to remember that a model's job is to sell what she's wearing. Clothes hang better on a lean body and let the fashion itself take focus.

I did high fashion editorial print for 17 years as a male model. I stopped because I got tired of it and male models don’t really make that much money, you’re in it because you enjoy it. One of the things that could’ve been mentioned here, and probably the most important attribute of all, is first impressions. Your attitude when you walk through the door is everything. Your self talk is something that you have to gain control of. What do you think on the inside shows on the outside. Be humble, be happy and most of all be respectful because everybody wants to be somebody, and generally people hate the person in the room who needs to be the center of attention. Be the person that everybody wants to look at not the one that everybody is forced to look at. You do that by showing heartfelt interest in other people, asking them how their day is, complementing them instead of waiting for them to complement you. Empathy, compassion and a true desire to interact with your fellow human being is the most beautiful quality there is. It can’t be faked, but you should always fake it till you make it, at least until it becomes a natural part of your own being.

there IS petite modeling.. why does everyone think there's only high fashion/editorial? Theres so many kinds of modeling and most do not require you to fit into the designers sample sizes
I’ve worked part time as a petite model for many years through an agency, and I’m 5’4”. As said below, there are many types of modeling and different clients look for different things. High fashion and runway modeling generally has height requirements. But there’s also printwork, commercials/ acting, promotional modeling, beauty campaigns, etc. to name a few. I share this to say if it’s your dream, you’ll find a way and don’t give up on it. At the least it can be a passion project or hobby if it brings you joy.

There’s two way ou can approach beauty, physicallly or from within. Both exist and both matter to us as humans. If you think a billion dollar industry is hiring people based on nothing then you’re terribly mistaken or just very young. There’s tons of videos that provide research and data on what makes a face attractive. It’s very simple. Even if you watch one runway show you’ll be able to notice a lot of similar features constantly popping up. Cheek bones, jawline, symmetry. And obviously height and frame.
Heads up before you go to the comments section, there's a guy called "pastor perplexing" replying to comments in the comments section wrongfully. He's been calling everybody ugly left and right, and he's been excusing himself by saying that people are jealous or that he's hotter and more humble than you. and as for the eyes, it can be turned on and off, Tyra Banks wasnt BSing about SMEYES (its the act of expressing intensity through your eyes, often done by lifting the LOWER lash line just a fraction, and not closing your upper eyelids at all, so you cant tell the persons eyes have changed shape... you just see this intensity (thats really a mix of concentration (to seperate the eye muscles so youre only lifting the bottom lid, and concentrating on doing it just the SLIGHTEST amount.... mixed with the exhaustion your eye muscles are going through, although it gets easier to do this the more you practice, at first you can only go short intervals before the muscles shake)
That "surgery" on the street with tooth gap. OH MY GOSH it hurts to watch it, lol. Can't believe somebody really did it.

I don’t think I need to say this, but it’s actually really bad for the health of your teeth. First, all that enamel is being lost, which would make the teeth REALLY sensitive. Also, by suddenly introducing a gap, it can really mess up their bite, and could cause them to grind their teeth in their sleep, and it just feels uncomfortable overall. A healthier way would be to get braces and let your orthodontist know that this is the look that you’re going for. You might have to lose a couple teeth in the back, but there won’t be any horrible side effects. I hope the lady who had this done is okay though.
Where I come from, gap teeth is a sign of beauty. A lot of people got theirs artificially like the video. It's funny to hear that there are people who are bullied for having one really.

Ive got high cheek bones, thick eye brows, 190 cm tall and the model agency i went told me i was to skinny! And i had to work on my body structure. So i became a real estate agent.

If I was a model agency I wouldn't look out for what everybody else is after, I would seek originality and diversity, encouraging models to keep away from those crazy surgeries, to be themselves and confident however they are. There is hardly such thing as best eye type, it is just a confident gaze.
Very true but it takes a lot of work and effort as an agency to sell those who do not fit the established mold, hard but not impossible!
Novelty does not equal appeal/attraction. Diversity only benefits if it still sells/is attractive. At the end of the day people want less stress and guaranteed money. Especially if the agency wasn’t created with those ideals in mind.

Routine isn't correlated to appeal either, and there is no evidence that anybody exhibiting the features listed would absolutely be attractive or sell, beauty is only objective in the end. By mean of example, gapped teeth is mocked in some communities. At the end of the day, anything unusual is more likely to turn heads.
The world is diverse rather than uniform, so agencies with models that follow a multi-trait pattern are more likely to be relatable. People are instinctively inclined to purchasing items they view on bodies that resemble theirs, so an agency that only signs models with uniform features only reduce their market size.

The thing is , is most of these features are subjective to agency’s . It varies from model to model .What one needs to focus on is confidence, knowing their platform , and being the best you can be . Lots of this can be enhanced through makeup and editing . The truth is , is that not everyone will have these features however they could be blessed with other features not mentioned

Loved this video! Thanks for posting. One thing that I learned in the modeling industry is that jawlines are also a facial feature agencies love. What are your thoughts on that? Many advertisements feature men and women with side angle portraits and they all usually have a sharp long jawline :)!

I actually have almost all these features expect my face is so asymmetrical which makes me incredibly insecure and I always feeling that im ugly (especially when I take pictures ) even though people are consistently telling me I look good or whatever and nobody notice my asymmetrical face or telling me I don't look good , however I can't ignore it 😭😭😭 I wanna disappear

Hilarious, they were filing their teeth. Thank you, this is all great information. I went to a modeling agency years ago and the gap in my two front teeth was not acceptable. I got braces and it's fixed. How times have changed. I have the other things except for maybe face symmetry. Slender bodybuilder physique. God bless you sir.
