@@half-dusted my guy, the joke was based on the fact that swankybox was talking about chunks in such detail. The joke never implied (sarcastically) that a minecraft chunk is longer than it actually is, that means that my correction had nothing to do with me not understanding the joke
Imagine if Minecraft worked exactly how the Red Coin Star did, imagine finding your way to some diamonds and then having the entire game crash on you because that one village you went to loaded too many blocks "Minecraft, but the game is absolute hell to play"
Some quick things I wanna touch on, real quick: -Slight info correction, but in the current version of Minecraft (it’s changing next update to be larger), chunks are not the layer of blocks, but rather, the space that blocks are rendered in. So the top of a chunk isn’t where the surface is, but rather where build height is. So really, the bottom of the underground is only around 64 blocks from the surface at any given time -I’m wondering if the particles from your block breaking weren’t contributing to your crashing problems. It wouldn’t surprise me if the game treats each individual particle as an object. Perhaps removing those particles would make things less volatile for you, in the future?
If pannenkoek2012 knowledge serves me right, each particle *is* loaded as an individual object, but certain objects (like most particles) are unloaded often to make room for other objects if the object slots are all filled, so I wouldn't know if crate shards are part of this group of willingly unloading objects
I do know that particles are the reason 255 coins (which involves cloning which leaves fake coins behind that don't unload) in BitFS is impossible, because the coin particles can eventually overload the slots once you've cloned enough coins, so it's probably the same reason
@@CyberSpaceFilms My point was that removing those particles might make things a bit more lenient on him, since the particle explosion spawns around 6-7 objects all on it’s own. Even if they are immediately killed afterwards, that’s several seconds, and potentially minutes saved, in the end. Not to mention, moving objects are already more intense on the engine, as their positions and speed appear to be randomized, in the case of these particles
I genuinely would love to see more of these, whether it's stage by stage or one mega video I know it'd be worth it to see all the crazy interactions. As long as your sanity can handle it. Maybe simpleflips would be up for some shenanigans after doing his music competitions?
Let’s not include games that are made to be limitless. This includes games like Minecraft and terraria, and game maker systems like unity and roblox. That should limit the choices.
I can better explain the Koopa the Quick behavior. One of the optimizations the game performs is that objects with collision triangles aren't solid if they are too far away from Mario. This is because the game normally de-serializes the collision model of an object once per object instance per frame, which is slow. This is done to accommodate platforms that can move and/or rotate, but it still happens for cork boxes as well. When Koopa the Quick is near Mario, he has to deal with the boxes and walk up/down them, but when he is far from Mario, he just walks his normal route unimpeded.
You could try something like going back to spawn and clearing a few whole chunks to make up for the blocks you can’t destroy for the stair case Edit: I really said spawn bruh
Don't even need ray tracing, any kind of system for directional lighting and occlusion would cut it, but SM64 doesn't have that kind of lighting, its all baked into the stages and objects
the death barrier is actually just a floor that ejects mario when he touches it, so if he weren't thrown out, he would just land on the floor and chill out.
And if neither of those happens, Mario would just reach the bottom of the map. If he doesn’t die from fall damage, he’ll just be stuck at the bottom. There’s no such thing as a bottomless map.
There's a "death barrier" outside the map, when Mario touches that death barrier, he dies. So, if you remove the death barrier, it's likely he will never die and tall forever. Y'know that one glitch in 3D world where you can get ontop of the mountain in the 3rd stage and jump off, so you can float around forever while going down? It's exactly like that.
@@StafkiGTN If there's no death barrier, he won't be able to occupy that space since there isn't a floor to consider the area "in bounds". And even so, if he somehow found a way to get there, he'd be instantly killed since he is out of bounds.
Alternatively you could use the SM64 PC port and modify the rendering engine to handle many thousands of objects using culling like minecraft does, even going so far as to implement an existing open-source minecraft clone
I wonder if this would've gone much better if a sort of octree had been coded instead just having one size of big block that subdivides into 64. Like what if you had several sizes, each double the previous, and they subdivide into eight?
Imagine actually playing Minecraft the way you put all these blocks in the Bob-Omb Battlefield. You’d start with a 1x2 space...and that’s it. You need to dig your way through the world to hopefully find the trees you need to actually get started. As for the obscuring blocks...I dunno, dirt? Leaves but with graphics down so they’re solid? Something quick to break, like the cork boxes.

@3:00 There's also the stages in Mario Bros 2 NA that are deep pits of sand blocks you have to dig through, and the similarly designed SMW bonus world with many hidden spots that made nice use of the drill jump mechanic in the game.
Adding a 2x2 block phase probably could have mitigated the amount of objects loaded. Also, would tiling the block texture depending on the scale work.
