- Is metalcore back?? I look at a few metalcore bands who are making the genre great again like Wage War, Of Mice & Men, Darko US, The Devil Wears Prada, Ten56, Memphis May Fire, Make Them Suffer, and Kublai Khan TX.

You had me at the walls of Jericho shoutout. Nailed it
I liked it when you made business videos
I got a random music video in my feed from a band named One Step Closer, it is straight up mid 90s midwest hardcore sounding with an old school camera filmed to look like an early 80s b rated horror film.
But ya, be on the lookout for One Step Closer. Bringing legit hardcore back in the days of covid
Hey can you do a video about fire from the Gods they are pretty great!
Hey man love the videos, I’m curious your thoughts on Underoath’s new singles. It would seem you wouldn’t think of them as metalcore (as they were at times previously) but I like that they seem to have a heavier sound with this upcoming album.
If Wage War put out an EP entirely of songs that sound like their song “Stitch”, I’d be stoked.
Dude, same. That was really my fav song they've ever done
My friend.... I have to say..... You might be correct
That shit goes so fucking hard. I love that song
Definitely their best song, and the only one I still go back to by them.
I was really disappointed to find their discography didn’t sound like stitch
August Burns Red has always been solid and heavy throughout all of these years.
Yes!
Definitely. They're really good live too. Would live to go see them again
@@godwings101 seen them live three times. They never disappoint.
💯
@@godwings101 Just saw them yesterday in Chicago on the Leveler Anniversary Tour. I actually went to the concert more for the warming up bands (Like Moths To Flames, ERRA, Fit For A King.) But ABR blew my mind. They brought solid energy for a whole hour and thirty minutes, and their fanbase are excellent people. Circle pit every single song. Fit For A King was great too
I think Loathe is great for the genre. So innovative. And even though they're not very similar bands, I think Landmvrks are soooo good. Flo is probably the best vocalist in the genre right now, and their newest album is so different from everything else in the scene
I agree for some reason Landmvrks has a fresh unique sound to me I love em
I like Loathe but whatever that ambient album was needs to not happen again lol.
Are we talking about the same Loathe? Heard most of their last album, they’re ripping off Deftones so bad. Still, good music, I guess.
@@selkoafparamo yeah it’s called “The Things They Believe” and it’s like an electronic ambient album. I almost thought it was the wrong band or something. But nope it’s them. I sat there listening to the first song like okay, that was an interesting intro. And then the second song was more ambiance and I’m like okay the heavy guitars will cut in any minute now. Nope.
Yes!! Loathe is perfect
There’s a bit of a revival in the entire rock/metal/punk/alt scene in general. I’m fucking loving it.
IKR, Hardcore especially is getting big. Bands like Knocked Loose and Jesus Piece are so cool and original. Hardcore is in a golden period right now, we just need more bands to join the new metallic hardcore movement.
Always had
Turnstile is taking part in that a lot rn
Why are you always spot on? hahaha this is amazing
hey i know you guys
🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hey look its a band I listen to :0
You are part of this revival guys, congrats for "In Another Life" 😁🙌
Ahaha i remember when you first came out, voices was amazing, bought your ep and first album. What happend now tho? Where's the heart in the music, where's the lead me into the dark type love musicainary? Also the cleans could use a touch up...
Keep up that solid love of music and the unique feel you brought to it 🙂!
Loathe, Ice Nine Kills, Bleed From Within, Alpha Wolf, Cane Hill and Crystal Lake deserve a mention too.
INK especially, they're doing amazing things for metalcore.
I think Landmvrks does also
Bleed From Within - Ruina, such a good song
@@ZIDsVids agreed
Neon Empire are cool
I like that the darko US one showed some old school PlayStation games…a little bit of nostalgia for me personally
Yeah, we're very big gamers ourselves and always love it when bands do stuff like that.
Check out their self titled release. It has several references to games. There's a song called Splinter Cell, one called The Last of Us, and Praise the Sun has a Dark Souls theme. And it's just good af in general.
@@timoratus_music Nice…if I remember correctly…I first started with PS1/PS2 games when I was a toddler…I think even some Nintendo games as well…particularly nes, snes, and GameCube…those are basically the systems I started with
@@SkyyDwellerr sounds interesting…I’ll make sure to take note of that
i feel like darko is a more deathcore than metalcore but they have a good handful of metalcore/softer songs on their album
Phinehas is the most underrated metalcore band in the scene.
Absolutely!! Ive been bumping the new album all day today!!!
100%. Phinehas is everything metalcore should be
And Crystal Lake!
Actually not, they're are growing much well with their last album, it's a masterpiece 🔥
Phinehas is amazing I'm happy I stumbled across them with the My horses years ago!
Finn, I know you're always looking for feedback: I much prefer this format of video compared to your normal ones. Obviously your channels grew organically but I much prefer listening to you're more "conversational" breakdown of your opinions on artists. I love that you covered some great bands here and gave some great and lighthearted input.
Thank you!
I think ice nine kills new album is going to help bring back the heavier and darker side of metalcore. They sound super fresh and different with great and creative songs. Great vid
Ice nine kills are one of the best bands ever
I actually dont like them, they feel reall cheesy to me :D a Bit like Crown the Empire if they went overboard with the dramatical stuff. What do you about them the most? I only see love for them, which is great.
@@R-SXX though they can be cheesy, the hooks are very well written and the heavy parts sound creative and the use of horror movie themed lyrics and imagery only elevates their music. Their live shows and stage presence also is a great plus one for them bc I have never heard someone with a bad experience after going to a live show of theirs. They also get some horror movie fans into metal core
@@ttraitors_5588 That would be me. As a horror fan I discovered INK via American Nightmare and Thank God Its Friday. I've spread into a fan of ABR, TDWP, Wage War, and many other metalcore bands because of INK.
Also the cheesiness is part of the 80s horror movies so it makes sense to have some cheesy lyrics. Although if people are not into horror it would probably be much harder to like INK.
I love INK but I wish their new album wasn't playing out like a sequel to Silver Scream. How many songs can you write about horror movies before it gets stale?
Can't forget about Ice Nine Kills, they look like they're having the most fun out of any band like ever right now
They're becoming huge. Anybody that likes fun and heavy together should love Ice Nine Kills.
The silver scream is quite possibly the best metalcore album released in the last 10yrs imo

"Misery Signals, I actually don't like this band that much"
Finn chose violence, and I wept
Misery Signals fandom is MAJOR pain
I liked them when they were around, but I've tried going back and listening to them and it sounds a little generic to me now. I'm not sure they held up

Your comments about what consumers are looking for in your videos is very interesting. I love looking at things from a macro perspective, so the videos about where the future of the genre is going and how rap might be getting the hand off are probably your most intriguing videos to me
Spotify playlist please!
This video really did spark an interest in being willing to listen to metal core again…loving the new channel. Great content as always and gives me something new to look forward to a few time a week now!
Of mice and men is killing it. They're whole line up is amazing. I haven't listened to the old albums in a while , Im obsessed with the the stuff.
I feel like the fact that a lot of the metalcore getting stale is contributing to deathcores time in the sun right now. Like everyones kinda looking for something new and just now remembering deathcore exists and the bands still playing it today are pretty freaking good.
not to mention deathcore's change in sound over the last 10 years, I'm not a huge fan of much older stuff, with exceptions, but the stuff today is just leagues above
Pretty much what happened with me. Never got into deathcore until about 2019
@@quitegoneg1933 Was a little earlier for me, around 2016-17 when Slaughter to Prevail was just starting and actually made good deathcore, from there I found Whitechapel, Rings of Saturn, ect. My favorite band today is Lorna Shore, I can't get enough of their new sound with Will., second would be Shadow of Intent.
Id still argue that theres as much if not a bigger amount of generic deathcore out there than metalcore. But yh theres a lot of quality acts getting recognition rn
@@evangalinsky2499 immortal by Lorna shore is amazing too. People just want to hate on cj yet will is just doing what Cj already did
Love your content, man. And thanks to this video I went down a bunch of different rabbit holes, just letting the algorithm carry me, and found a bunch of solid bands I haven't heard of yet. Damn, I really hope the scene is making a comeback, even if it's a small one.
Love the crazy heavy, beatdown-influenced metalcore like Darko and Ten56. As long as metal bands keep pushing boundaries and bringing us new and interesting sounds, I'm a happy man. A lot of these are great examples.
“Don’t bore us, get to the chorus.” Hell yeah
Finn videos are the only ones I thumbs up before the video even starts. Always quality content. Fantastic points of view and always have great conversations. Keep it up!

You're honesty and opinions are refreshing.....glad to see someone who actually isn't afraid is to tell it like it is imo...much love and respect
Phinehas just released a new album today that is solid metal core 🤘
ERRA, Volumes, Of Mice & Men, Invent Animate, Holding Absence, Born of Osiris, & A Scent Like Wolves are all carrying the scene this year!
INVENT ANIMATE R KILLING IT BRO
i’m sick right now with c*v*d and your channels are single handedly getting me through the shit. thanks a lot finn, you’re my favorite channel on youtube
Dude when you talk about pop, rap, and modern artists I feel like I learn a lot about music and it’s inner connectivity. I love older guitar music but most of the audience knows everything about those artists. Those angry vocal fans are just 12% and don’t have the intellectual creativity to make a successful UA-cam.
This comment! We need more people telling him how much they enjoy him talking about a variety of music.
Just based on this video this guy has a very surface level knowledge on metalcore. He probably knows more about rap tbh haha.
@@joefawley9264 you would be surprised. His knowledge of metal ore and hardcore is pretty deep, he has a personal history with the scene. It’s just that hardcore isn’t all that he is, and some of the commenters only want him to be a one subject speaker
I also love the new Bullet For My Valentine singles that have been released lately. Idk who made them mad again, but they sound furious and I'm loving it
They people who said their nu metal/post-hardcore album from a few years ago sucked, probably. Heh.
The new Beartooth is also great, they did kinda butt rock stuff in recent records but the newest album Below was great in being way heavier and fresh again and also giving some nostalgia for Caleb shomos vocals and songwriting
It was so cool to see them bounce back. Definitely cool to see them getting heavy again
@@DBL304 facts
Of Mice & Men has been releasing some of their best music the past couple years. I love the clean chorus. I prefer some melody with my metal core.
Ditto
Most definitely. I Love my clean chores. The color morale all day. I do love metalcore without cleans too but it's a must for bands to mix it up with every album. Not the same formula every song
I’ll also add in BMTH, Trivium, Bullet for my Valentine, and Bad Omens
I wouldn’t sleep on the new erra album. Good high quality metal core. Classic but not stale.
There are a couple of those djentcore bands that are still doing it right, and ERRA is definitely one of them
@@quicksam9941 definitely the best of that lot
Even though I’d no longer consider Issues metalcore, their first couple releases were very refreshing for the scene. Like them or not, they’ve always been one of the most unique sounding bands out there.
I don’t even know what people had against their later released. The refined their sound, sure, but into a more jazzy and funky blend expressed through plenty of badass riffs.
@@ohalistair They blend r&b with contemporary metal riffs in a pretty cohesive way while other bands in their field have a hard time doing so. You don’t have to be a fan of them to realize that.
@@ohalistair they mix R&B with metalcore/nu metal, and that's pretty unique.
BTBAM’s new album is the most fun metalcore album I’ve heard in ages
I saw Datto mention that in one of his videos the other day. Gotta check it out.
@@Ninjamanhammer Yeah it's probably got more elements of prog and tech death, but still the most fun I've ever had listening to an album.
Btbam aren’t really Metalcore anymore
modern BTBAM sound like Dream Theater, not metalcore. Self-titled and Silent Circus were their best work
If you want something fun, you should check out WBTBWB's new songs and upcoming album
Metalcore will never die

@Necro44 first of all it’s so good to find someone who loves Candiria, they’re criminally underrated. I wouldn’t say they sound like Candiria but it’s certainly unique IMO
The new Of Mice & Men was such a return to form after several albums of radio metal and I was all for it
Thanks for the tip on ten56 and Omerta. They sound rad. Hope they come through LA this year!
Ten56 has a member(s) from Novelists, and is moreso Villains/Yuth Forever than Emmure. 10-56 used to mean suicide on the 10 code, and Villains has a record named 10 code with multiple 1056 references in their discography.
You do know Darko is a side project with Baby J right? That's why they sound like Emmure. Also Tom Barbers vocals are so unique. Love em
Baby J left Darko and is in Spite now and they just signed to Rise. Shit is nuts.

Have you talked about Alpha Wolf in your livestream? If not I feel like they been missed out on. They are definetly a driving force of the genre in the right (imo) agressive direction.
bands like SeeYouSpaceCowboy..., Vein, Orthodox, Jesus Piece, Sanction (a lot of the more hardcore leaning bands) are breathing new life into metalcore and bringing it back to where it needs to be. excited for where the genre is heading, as I agree a lot of the stuff from like 2015-2020 had the very stale, boring, formulaic radio rock sound which really turned me off from metalcore as a whole, which was the main style of music I was listening to for several years. it was during the quarantine that I rediscovered my love for the genre and found a lot of newer bands bringing the heaviness back, and have been hooked again ever since.
This video turned me onto Kublai Khan TX and for that I am grateful.
Good to hear you talk about Kublai Khan. Super sick band.
Of Mice & Men has always been one of my all time favorites along with Asking Alexandria and Bring Me The Horizon. But Of Mice & Men is the only one of them that really stayed Metalcore.
Word. also miss may I, as I lay dying, killswitch engage,, really good metalcore

Invent Animate are awesome. Their 2020 album is heavy. They’re drummer is one of my faves.

Left to suffer and currents is what I've been jamming too the past few months. Whatever genre in metal they are, I fucking love it. Great video also
Between the buried and me, alesana, ice nine kills, jinjer, any given day, veil of maya, august burns red, wolves at the gate, as I lay dying, erra, fit for a king (until the newest album. Whomp whomp.), within the ruins, oceans ate alaska, as everything unfolds, ect. Ect. Have been keeping metalcore fun for me this entire time :)
P.S. TDWP's the act was amazing!!
How could you miss Code Orange, i think their last album is really great in all aspects.
Finn you are definitely sleeping on the boys in AVOID. They're the most fun band in the scene in my opinion and Benny is the best frontman I have ever seen. In the last few years they put out an EP called "The Burner" it is just fun from front to back. They also just got signed to Thriller Records which is a new label from the founder of Fearless Records. They are about to blow up and they're bringing the scene with them.
Yes! Love seeing their name around here.
Finn, he's right. These dudes are doing it right and bringing the fun back into the genre.
They’re on the nose for new trends too lol. Did not realize how young alt dudes are dying their hair the bright colors til i saw them . their band is Like a rainbow 🌈
Finn I love your main channel videos about current alternative music culture and not just all the nostalgializing. I like that you have a sort of newsy take on things but approach it more from like a how does this fit into music culture rather than tmz newsy like who so and so is dating. I’ve been trying to find what sort of stuff I like in these emerging subgenres and You help me make more sense of it.
Thank you!
Dude yes! This is what I was talking about on that community post the other day, but I missed this stream and didn't realize you had done this. #makemetalcorepissedagain
I love the diversity in the scene right now! Spiritbox, Imminence and Orbit Culture are my favorite bands right now.
Don’t forget Bad Omens, son!
Bruh Orbit Culture are heavily slept on. I only just recently discovered them when I think Redfog appeared on a playlist of mine.
I miss For Today!!!! Especially (Fight The Silence) (Wake) era! Just crushing breakdown after breakdown. Even though they did get stale and (I think a big reason they broke up was due to loss of creativity) I still think they were badass at the time in the 10's.
Metalcore is at its finest right now🔥 Love the mentioned bands Darko US, Ten56, TDWP and Make Them Suffer.
Honestly i LOVE your new "series" about LP, avril and slipknot :D pls keep making these pls :)
diamond construct is another band thats doing something really heavy and creative. they do the nu metal influence in a very fresh and creative way. they have amazing lyrics as well. their song enigma is incredible. cant recommend them enough.
Of the 2000’s acts I feel like August Burns Red is the only one still consistently cranking out solid material. The last KSE was also surprisingly good as well. But definitely some great new acts in Make The Suffer, etc. Darko is awesome too, although considering the members in it I’d call them more deathcore.
I think bleeding through only got better after they dumped trustkill.
@@travisspazz1624 I love Bleeding Through even if they can be a little too "edgecore" at times lol. And yeah, as much as I have nostalgia for the Trustkill days, they turned out to be predatory assholes.

A lot of older bands that went "radio" are having a really cool resurgence. TDWP, BFMV, Wage War, just so much good music coming out right now.
Still don't get how people say TDWP went "radio" 😂
I know you mentioned Courtney from Spiritbox here a little but I'd love to hear your expanded thoughts on Spiritbox at some point. I think they're killing everything they do and I want to see them rise high
We LOVE Spiritbox and think that they are killing it as well. It just seems like they are on the rolling ball right now and it's great! I know they released nothing but singles for a while and that was pretty uncommon for a metalcore band, but it (like the industry) has changed that way so it probably helped them in the long run.
Little bit of an unpopular opinon but to me personally not a negative one, spiritbox is pretty much an architectscore kinda band. I mean hell they're about to drop a song with Sam from architects on their album. But again I don't have a problem with djent or architectscore but I find it funny when people complain about it and then praise spiritbox like they don't sound like architects
@@iletthedevilin828 For some songs for sure but they have a fairly diverse sound. I see their sound as more indebted to Deftones than Architects personally.
Dying Wish reminds me a lot of Bloodlined Calligraphy which was an awesome metalcore band back in the mid-2000s. Shame they broke up, they had a great sound, though I understand not wanting to continue as a band when one of your core members dies.
That ten56. song has been my healing track for a few months now, I had no idea French people could slam that hard

This is kinda why I fell off metalcore in 2013 and jumped on the hardcore train.
Metalcore just wasn't the same anymore

Totally agree, but sub hardcore for grindcore and we are twinsies.
You'd be surprised that metalcore actually is of the hxc umbrella, but the bands that are called metalcore would not fall under it since it lacks the hxc punk elements. I went the emoviolence typa hxc route after the "scenecore" stuff lol but I still jam hard to Asking Alexandria and shit to this very day, after years of falling away from that music as well. Bands like that definitely are a gateway to a whole pool of cool ass music and sure as hell deserves respect for bringing so many people into heavy/extreme music

Dying Wish is dope. I got into metalcore in the mid-2000s so I will always love stuff that sounds like that era. Really dig some of the new stuff by Wristmeetrazor for that reason. I guess since I came to metalcore from the metal side of things I prefer it with the thrash and melodeath influences.

Foxx Lake has been putting out some cool stuff lately, Dying Wish Until Mourning Comes Intro Gives me life and definitely looking forward to their record, Silent Planet Panopticon I really enjoyed Lots of Music to look forward to by the end of year and this year has given us some great music as well, P.S. I just had to come back and sincerely thank you for this video. I'm always looking for the newest heinous shit. Usually in the form of noise, grindcore, or experimental, but I'll fuck with some metalcore & hardcore (& adjacent) for sure if it scratches that itch. You know, that shit that makes you go, "okay this is legitimately brutal." Or "I did not see that coming." Omerta does the latter. Wow, what a band! I've also been checking out Ten56, Darko US, and Kublai Khan TX, who do the former, for the last two hours and they are heavy as fuck. So, thanks for introducing me to 4 great new bands!!!
Phinehas has been solid for years, but their new album is insane!
My problem with Metalcore is its been done to death for well over a decade, it’s been done to death so much that bands don’t know what else to do anymore. Metalcore has been so over used that it’s splintered into different iterations of it. Like I said it’s been done to death so much that bands don’t know what else to do and if you’re a Hard Rock/Metal band today you have to have breakdowns, chugg riffing, and mix of clean and growling/screaming vocals.
Loathe and Static Dress are both some of my most listened to bands ever since I discovered them. That entire clique of UK artists are just on top of their shit like nobody else is. Their music, visuals, videos, on stage presence, all a 10/10 in my books. Innovative but also with very clear influences from the past, in the best possible way!
Hi Finn, I can't watch you on twitch 'cuz at the time you are online I have to work :c so, loving these streaming highlights! Keep it up! Te veo desde Colombia, saludos!
Gracias por ver!
Dying Wish is so good! I mean, their Until Mourning Comes song is so fucking good it literally starts with a breakdown and then it transitions into a very nostalgic old metalcore riff and pretty much the generic metalcore formula but it just works amazingly. Like you said, it feels authentic and I really like it. Can’t wait for their record
Edit: I really disagree with Aaron being better than Austin. I stopped listening to OM&M because Aaron’s screams just don’t have the same intensity Austin’s vocals had. Austin was just so good at it
Exitwounds is another cool underrated modern metalcore band, they're way closer to the classic metallic hardcore sound tbh, their song named "Pulling Teeth" have been my most played song of these last few weeks, and tbh i am pretty fucking much agree with finn, i'm totally sick of that generic cheesey poppy atmospheric kinda metalcore with like 0%hardcore and 1% metal in it.
Exitwounds kicks ass.
@@VinnyMickeyRickeyDickeyEddy totally, their new shit freakin slaps
Misery signals should be mentioned too. They’re metalcore og’s and they’re still killing it after all these years.
Contraband is probably my favorite metal song right now, I love make them suffer because of the screams and the clean female vocals of Booka Nile. You should check Neon Graves out because they're amazing
The Metalcore term is becoming "90's alternative" or "Nu-Metal", meaning it is less a style and more a label overall of a market. I love Spiritbox, but they are not in the label, for heck sake Mike is playing a Abasi guitar in the last few music videos. They are mostly Melodic metalcore which based on this video needs to be recognized as its own thing. I like music with Melodic music and some cleans. I came into this scene thanks to Tesseract album "Polaris". Point blank, people, copy them. That is music. I like my fair share of heavy bands with lots of anger, but to be frank, there are way too many "angry" bands. I emote more than anger. Make me a sad song, make me a happy song. Make me a song of pure grief or wonder. Show me a verity of emotions and different ways to do it. If I want angry, we already got Slayer and Slipknot. Death too if you like it really heavy/progressive(depends on the album with them, rip Chuck).
I think too many of the bands in the metalcore djent scene are getting grouped together when they have tons of variety. Yes you have your volumes and bands like erra where they can ve v generic sounding. But a lot of grouups such as thornhill are crafting their own sound in the vein of bands like northlane thats its own seperate thing to the more hardcore side of metalcore that finn is showing here.
@@charizardmaster13 Been listening to that Northlane "Alien" album a little bit now, it is a good one. It has a lot of emotion and depth to it. Sad stuff too based on the subject matter all throughout it. I'll give thornhill a try.
That Dying wish is so damn good. That album is gonna be a metalcore classic.
I would love to see you do a video of like upcoming artist that we probably never heard of butter awesome
I enjoyed your post! In particular, I thought your assessment of Aaron and Of Mice & Men was spot on! I’m a fan!
Is this Aaron? 🧐
@@ItachiUchiha-qx7xo I’m his dad, so I might be biased! Lol
