Thank you. 8 years on and this video is still helpful. Not sure why anyone would give you dislikes or hate for trying to help out..! Much appreciated 👍 I figured this out by fiddling around a BUNCH, but came here to try figure out the 30min run time, and you answered that question perfectly, too! You’re a star 🙌
Thank you...have had my car for 4 years and never used it because I never knew how. I bought the car used. 2014 Mazda cx5. I now work early and it's been cold so I'm loving this now!
Thank you! I've had my car since 2016 and never used it because I live in Florida, but I installed the remote start for colder weather. I have a 2016 Mazda CX-5. My family is finally going to take a trip to a cabin in the mountains, and we want to make sure we can warm it up before we get it.
For anyone wanting the answer 7 years later: right at the end of that timeframe (2:05), it says run 10mins, but he moves, so you can’t really see that. It puts out that signal symbol (like a lightning bolt) for a couple of seconds before actually starting the engine. So he moves over to the car and it is running, but the engine only starts running when it says run + the timeframe (10[/15?] or 30mins).
How are you doing? I have the same Mazda and I have the OEM starter and for whatever reason when I hit the start button stop comes up and it won’t start it. any ideas of what could it be? I would appreciate your input.
not sure, I would compare part numbers. I know they want to sell you a subscription service to remote start which if you don't keep the car for at least 3 years might be cheaper.
logyscott unfortunately not having this remote start means you still need the regular fob as well that's why I just keep it at home and start it and before I head off for work
Sky1, I know you did the install a long time ago, but I want to pick your brain a little with these questions: 1: My car has the security system in it so I know I don't need do the hood pin work and harness 2: Did the install kit get installed on the passenger side behind the glove box? I have found the Mazda 6 installation instructions and that is where it is located. I have order my OEM Mazda kit but have not received it yet. Hopefully it contains installation instructions for the CX-5, but in case it doesn't I just am looking for a hint from you as to the general location of the install. Thanks
I was looking at this for my 2016.5 Mazda CX.5 GT. It says this won’t work, but it also says this won’t work with a 2015 model like you have. Is this just because they want you to get the mobile app with the subscription now?
jperk323 hey there I also have the same model of cx5. Do you have it installed now? Because I'm torn between getting the mazdas or from other sources tnx just want to know your experience
No I didn’t buy this yet. I’m still trying to find out if it will work. Original poster never got back to me and I can’t find anyone who’s done it. I may buy it and hope for the best. I find it hard to believe Mazda would have changed the wiring or at least enough so that this wouldn’t work. It would be nice to find out for sure though before I spend $400 on a hope and a prayer.
Ok. I talked to my dealer and he told me that let the shop that do installation for them to do my remote starter like its going directly to the one who's doing the installation so that its more safe for me to have it installed there rather than doing it on other stores
@@jperk323 The wiring is mostly already done and there, you unplug and plug into the device in line, special tape hold it up under the dash, install a thermometer, one pin on a gray wire under the hood and then sync the remote start to the start button. Old video, i know, but I need some help. Harness and all that is in and I can get the first fob programmed, it shows "A1" on the digital display, but cant seem to get the second to take. Any tips? thanks!
oh, I had installed it in my wife's CX5 6 years ago. I thought I found a document online to explain it also there was the install document that I think came with it. So sorry I can be more help.
You know I started to create one when I was installing it I took pictures etc but when you order the kit it does provide some diagrams and notes. The only part that got me was learning the fob to the car. Took a couple tries but not too bad. ep.yimg.com/ty/cdn/yhst-24809172479195/cx5remotestart.pdf
Yes. I have the same one, totally useless in my opinion. Given this is a factory setup I'm super disappointed in the range as well. Usually gives the A4 or ER error standing 10 feet away in some cases. If you ask me, go aftermarket and you won't regret it
Thanks for presentation. Did your dealership inform you to install it when you purchased your car? I live in damn cold winter and they never mentioned about this when I bought mazda 3(I know I should've told them too). It could've been better if I included it on my financing than paying $600 at once. I am just surviving with engine block heater now
You can do it yourself if inclined and able, I installed the one in my wife's car but negotiated mine in car purchase deal. I love remote starts, both for when it is cold or hot. With these new cars that have climate control when it is hot the AC will come on and cool the car, when it is cold it will heat the car. Mazda's remote start are more expensive than most but worth it.
I ordered mine online and installed it myself on the 2015 CX5. The unit is the same for the 6. Not too difficult to install but I think you should get a quote from the dealer. It may come out to be the same price. That is, having them install it vs you buying one and installing it yourself. By the way, you should NOT go with any aftermarket units due to the way it is integrated.
@@Sky1 I have same problem. I can't get the Remote Starter fob to pair with the unit. I hear the 2 beeps from the module, press the three buttons simultaneously and then the stop button, but the module reports back with three beeps instantly which means a communication error. I can't figure it out.
Not sure, you would need to cross reference part numbers. Found out later that my dealer would sell and install for the same price so when I got my next Mazda I just had the dealer do it. There is a new remote now, one that can be controlled from your cellphone. Very nice since you can start the vehicle before you leave your desk at work. It is subscription based though but worth a look.
You know I post this video to give people an idea of the device, I am not Mazda tech support, I answer questions that I can but end up with half as many dislikes as likes. If I do not get more likes to this video I will just remove it and you all can just call Mazda.
Dealership pricing is always negotiable. I think this unit runs $500? If you do not have a security system you need the three piece option like this -> www.ebay.com/itm/2014-2016-Mazda-CX-5-3-Piece-Remote-Engine-Starter-Set-Genuine-OEM-NEW/192273583588?fits=Make%3AMazda&hash=item2cc4660de4%3Ag%3AZi4AAOxyVaBS5-PV
OEM so it comes from Mazda, the dealer will know the number(s) If you got a security system you only need one part of it not the cable hookup under the hood. I installed the one on my wifes CX5 a while ago but this one the dealer installed.
johnnieace45 I have a cx 5 and a local company will charge me 260 to install it but the Mazda dealer where I bought my car gave me a quote of over 600. I don't understand, which would you recommend? It's a 2016, not sure if that would matter.
There are two remote starts available from Mazda. One is via your smart phone which is less $ but after a few years you pay a subscription. The other is like mine where you buy it and is a one time charge. I think I paid about $450 for it and installed it myself. My dealer later said they would have supplied it and installed it for that price. Do not go with an after-market unit. I am dealing with problems with my mother-in-laws car having problems after a remote start was installed. Besides any non-OEM may void your warranty. I would try and talk the dealer into doing it for you. Try and get them to do it for $450 all parts, warranty etc included.
why the hell would they let you remote start the car to warm it up and then when u go to get in it it turns off...am I the only one who thinks that retarted? Is there anyway to have the car remote start (maybe with doors locked, but still either way) and when you go out to the car it will not turn off? I just got the 2014 madzda 6
not a big deal you hop in and hit the start button on the dash and the car starts right back up still warm. The reason I was told that it does this is because the internal security of the module cannot transfer to the keyfob without the ignition shutting off. If the remote start was on the regular key the car would remain running. There are ways around it shutting off but poses a security risk. The car knows when the fob is outside the car vs inside the car. The electronics in the Mazda is very advanced.
Totally stupid in my opinion. Any domestic vehicle from the big 3 do not shut off when you open the door, so how come Mazda can't figure that out? The range that this works at is far too spotty as well. Can work at 1km (but no accurate feedback it started), get to the car and it's running ugh. Then 5 to 10 feet away Antenna error or some other useless error. Mazda dropped the ball hard on this kit.
@@stevel4035 Really not a big deal to reach up and press a button. You have to do this on other cars as well but the others do not shut off. I love the technology in this car, it knows when to lock the doors, it knows when your keys are in the car or trunk does not lock on you. It has some other things as well. I am extremely impressed with Mazda. But I do however wish the remote start was integrated with the fob.
