  • My experience with buying a "Squier Classic Vibe '70s Jaguar". Was it worth it? Is it just as good as a Fender Jaguar?

I just recently acquired a Vintage Modified Jaguar in Seafoam Green and man I love it do much…. It is so much brighter than my Fender Stratocaster and has way more character in my opinion. I mainly play Surf and early Rock/Surf adjacent instrumentals and it’s perfect for that stuff…. I think we are in the golden era of cheap guitars!🎉❤

Just got a used one for 300.00. I thought I would just do the needed mods and setup and be happy with it. I'm very happy with it and it didn't need anything! I lowered the bridge to get the action nicer and the break angle is still plenty steep. No shimmed neck - no need to replace pickups - this is subjective for sure but they have lots of character when used together. The bridge on it's own is thin but combined with the neck it's sweet and full sounding. My amp is a Pro Reverb and it's just right for this guitar. Lots of magic for not much money. Looks cool as hell too. It's a win.

I just got the new Fender Vintera 2 series and I can tell you I still rock out with my squire '70 Jag its one of my 1st offset and it should be others too. Nice review. Keep rocking 😎🎸👍

Appreciate the review, Bruce! I picked up a CV Jazzmaster and found that there’s some big improvements over the old VM series. The bone nut and the bridge are great. The necks were good before but are really nice now.
But outside of the pickups, the electronics are pretty rough. The frets also needed work on mine. I replaced both switches, the lead circuit pots, and the output jack. I also swapped the trem for a locking one and painted the headstock. Considering I got it for a holiday deal ($280) and did the work myself, I think it’s a fabulous bargain! Out of the box though, they do need some work.

I swapped all the Squier tremolos for Fender tremolos on my Jags and Jazzmasters. They are thicker and more stable material. Better to set it up and better tuning stability and not to forget, it has the "Lock" button.
I did all the work you mentioned on mine plus locking tuners and a bone nut.

I first bought the sunburst one, but it was faulty so I had to return it. It's a shame because the offsets look perfect in that finish. In the end I bought another one but they only had the solid black-- but it still looks very nice.
Classic Vibe guitars are extraordinary value as far as I'm concerned, which is why I own six of the bloomin' things.

      I own 15 Jaguars.
Some left the same from Corona factory, some modded to kingdom come, some USA, Mexican, and China.
Just love the 24" scale length.
Wish someone would have told me about this 55 years ago???????

Overall I don't think the Squier classic vibes are too bad. There are some cheap components in them though but you get what you pay for. I really like my Squier 70s Vibe Strat and love the sound of it. The only complaint is the five way pickup toggle feels really loose but like I said earlier, you get what you pay for. I might get it swapped out at some point.

That guitar from I'm from is 360 euros. It's not some dirt cheap 120 euros guitar to have bad frets and similar shit. That's unacceptable.
The problem is that people don't return those guitars back to shop and take another one, but go to have additional expenses and fixing those fucked up guitars.
Being a spineless turd and going:"You get what you paid for" is the dumbest thing ever.
If you don't respect your work and money and accept that some company dumps you a broken product and that you are fixing something that should be working,
then the problem is you and people like you, because the ONLY reason why companies are getting away with it is because spineless turds DON'T return those guitars and ask
      for a functional guitar.
350-360 euros is NOT small amount of money or that guitar is dirt cheap like 120 euros so that it has some serious flaws, like bad frets and similar things.
Hello, look at the world around you and what you can buy for 350 euros. Imagine if EVERYTHING worked the way things work in guitar world that you buy TV for 350 euros and that it doesn't work or monitor for PC or the electric drill or whatever.
If EVERYONE was returning those guitars and companies just fucking stacking massive amount of useless guitars and their profits cut in half, then they would be FORCED to make a fucking good guitar.
This way, making a standard that guitars can be broken up to 500 euros, have major flaws, that's all on consumers and people accepting to be fucked in the ass
and using some idiotic excuse: "Well, it's cheap". Well, let's make a standard that EVERYTHING you buy out there up to 500 euros can be broken and then the fucking world would collapse, literally.

I just got one that had to be professionally set up also. Still evaluating it. Also got a discount due to scars on the body. I've have two other Squier Classic Vibes that I'm very happy with both made in China. This Jaguar was made in Indonesia and I would not recommend purchasing any more Squiers (or any other make) from there.

I got a powder blue one last week, they were practically giving them away. I played the floor model, and they brought me one in a box. So I tried that one and the volume knob on the lead circuit didn't have any sweep,it just went from full to nothing so I bought the floor model. I have a thing for block inlays on Fenders.

Hi Bruce...tks for the update on the Squire Jag......I got a Squire Jag also but do not play it much....the fret ends were sharp and I had to use a fret file to get them playable. I replaced the plastic nut with a bone nut. The vibrato arm is a PITA as it does get loose every so often. Mine was made in Indonesia. The bridge I changed out with a Mustang one but put the original one back as I used the Mustang bridge in the Jazzmaster I was building...the HI E string is almost resting on the adjusting screws on the bridge and think that may be due to the neck not being lined up properly...will work on that soon...other than that, it does sound good overall......I didn't pay much for this one either . . .take care bro ;-))

I think you're talking about the older model (pre-2020). The newer ones come with a Mustang bridge and a bone nut stock from the factory.

I had one the weight was nice 7.5 pound compared to my USA one that is 9lbs. Had to cut the nut and the trem replaced with a Fender classic player one. Had to level the frets too after that it was great but I hated the Indian laurel so I sold it. I think the Vintera is much better overall and worth the extra cost.
