Great video!! My 5.7 is at 97K and I will change the plugs within the next 5K. The maintenance interval is 120K miles for those wondering. Personally I stick with OEM plugs. While rare, I have pissed off engines by using aftermarket plugs.
I did mine at 120K and besides being a little seized up they looked pretty good. They say the new plugs don’t need anti seize, but after feeling the factory ones come out 6 years and 120K later, there’s no way I’d put new plugs back in without it. Good call to swap them out at 100K.
Just got done installing my new plugs ! ( glad it only needs changed every 100,000 miles) I had 112,564 miles on the original plugs and still ran great, but pulled & looked and they were ready to be replaced.
Pulling that first plug out is like jamming a Q tip in the ear, pulling it out and looking at it HAHA who knows what lurks down in there in the realm of the unseen :D
240,000 miles on my 2007 Tundra. Original plugs. I haven’t felt any loss in performance and gas mileage is as good as its ever been. Maybe I’m crazy but I’ve had my mechanic pull and check them twice now and he says they look good.
I’m definitely no expert on that but my mechanic has pulled them twice and said they’re fine. He’s been in business close to 30 years. I’ve also read that until you notice a loss in power or mileage your ok. I took my daughter on a trip this summer mostly interstate and hwy miles 65-75 mph. Averaged 19.2 mpg. Which for a Tundra is pretty good.
I wanna touch on this, I just recently bought a 07 tundra and the fuel mileage is literally 9.5 MPG. I have replaced the engine air filter, cleaned the throttle body, and cleaned the MAF sensor. I'm still getting very bad gas mileage. I am replacing coil packs and spark plugs tomorrow. Is there anything else this could be? My next guess would be a issue with the fuel pump. There arent any symptoms of a fuel pump problem at the moment though.

Are your plugs the right setup if they’ve been replaced?My last time I kept track I got between 14-15 mpg but that was fairly cold winter weather. I’ve gotten around 20 open road summer driving at times. Only time I’ve ever got mileage like yours is when I’m pulling my boat.
@@kross1261 you are lucky to get 19 miles per gallon. I only get like almost 16 miles per gallon on the highway on my 08 seqouia. Never got close to 17. I do not know how to get 19.
Good video, but i wouldn't use those plugs, as densco are what Toyota uses, yes i know the dam things are 16.50 a piece, but are good for 120 k , but thanks for the video because the shop wanted to charge me 200 bucks without parts .
I watched till that part when he mentioned not to tighten too much the spark plugs ...I mean wow !!.. there are torque settings for the spark plugs and for the 10 mil bolts ..CRUCIAL !!
About to do this to my 2011 4.6L tundra. Truck has 177k and running on original plugs. Truck seems to gasp for air when I try to start it when it's 25 or below. Once I start it and turn it off it'll start up normally. So, I'm assuming I need new plugs.

My 07 tundra let's out a half second screech when I start it sometimes it almost starts then doesn't.then it starts with the next turn of the key. I changed the belt but it still does it at least once a day. A mechanic friend said sounds like it needs new plugs. Would bad plugs make it screech?
Correction this is a 2nd gen tundra. The 3rd gen has a twin turbo v6 engine as well as a hybrid system. Thank you for making a very helpful video.
I'd call it a 2.5 Gen. Same engine but lots of cosmetic changes. Visually looks different.

All plugs are aftermarket. And Tundras can come with TWO different plugs on the same exact engine, on different banks.
I’m planning on changing mine out at 60k. Just trying to as much as I can to improve mpg
Great video...but don't use Bosch unless you don't mind doing that every 6 month to a year. Use oem or ngk or denso.

How many miles when your replaced them? That’s the gap on the new plugs? Did your truck run any better with the Bosch plugs?

Toyota motors do not do well with off brand spark plugs. Either ngk or denso plugs only.
I was wondering if you should go ahead and change the ignition coils while you are changing the plugs? What is the consensus?
Gen 2.5 or Gen 2, but definitely not Gen 3. It's too bad the Tundra community doesn't just use chassis codes like 997.1 or 997.2 or AP1 and AP2
