The Platters were undoubtedly were one of the greatest doo wop groups from the 50's and early sixties, in part by having such a great lead singer, Tony Williams. I'm thankful for UA-cam because they are able to bring back these great groups for us to still enjoy some 60 years after their fame got started.
It was NOT, doo wop, when we heard that record come out, nor was any of the Platters records called 'doo wop', in the day. I know, I bought 'Great Pretender', when it came out, about 1956. I loved their style, it was.....cool.
I am almost 75 years old and this song was popular when I first fell in love. I didn't marry him, but when I hear this song, I still have those same feelings. It takes me back to that place and time. I love this song and all the songs by the Platters. Their music was magic to me at a very special time in my life that I can never forget.

I remember my dad working in the U.S. in the early 60's, and when he came home he brought records from the Platters and other American singers. We played the Platters record constantly, we just love all the songs. My family moved to the U.S. a few years later and we've been a big fan until this day. I play the Platters on Alexa now, their songs bring back a lot of good memories. Dad passed away during Covid-19 epidemic but that day in the early 60's was absolutely magical. I've been a fan of the Platters ever since.
My family had a beautiful 50s -60s birthday for my sixty seventh bday it was incredible including all these songs all the way to grease songs it was a memorable day I’ll forever take in my heart ❤️ hamburgers hot dogs root beer floats bottled cokes pop corn ….decorations ,cake everything oldies theme a picture of my prom day , year book and panoramic senior graduation picture ….nothing will top that ever .❤️my family for letting me relive those years in one day …..oh and a classic car 🚘 for photo op for guests dressed in oldies attire .thx for letting me share 💕🤷♀️

This was "Our Song" when my wife, Connie, and I were dating in the sixties. We were married 48 yrs before she passed May 17, 2016. I had searched for it before to play it for her, but couldn't find it before she died. I heard it again today for the first time in many years and it brought both joy and sorrow to my heart. my dad wouldn't let me spend the money for a transistor radio but I was able to get a crystal radio. don't know if you remember them. it worked great with an ear piece. went to sleep many a night listening to this kind of music. what I wouldn't give to just spend 24 hours back then again. i'd die a happy man.
Transistor radios along with the VS300 batteries were quite expensive back then. I built my firs crystal radio when I was 12. KUDE of Oceanside CA. was a good rock station back in the day. I always enjoy radio much more than I do TV.

Original Platters got together for a last world tour in 65 or 66, and I got to see them. I was a very young newly wed living in Hong Kong. Tony Williams and Zola were both there. Such a memory.
My father was born in 1930 and when I was a child he often spoke to me about the Platters because he loved their music very much (I was born later, in 1976) He died in 2011... Every note of the Platters' music is a masterpiece!
