@teesixx i hope smoke in your eyes was not tears dancing to this beautiful song with your one and only true love🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹❤❤ i hope you have many more dances to songs like this many more years 👍💐🌿😍😍👋🇮🇪
The most romantic night of my entire life was spent dancing to this amazing song, in 1958, I was 21 and she was 20, pope afb, Fayetteville NC. THE PLATTERS WERE A TRULY OUTSTANDING SINGING GROUP.
Makes me think bavk to 54 to 58 when my steady girlfriend and I used to do the "elevator" dance (No Steps :-) )to the Platters. Of course I'd have to wait a minute or two before we seperated. ;-)
I'm 50 now & I will ALWAYS LOVE the PLATTERS!!!! That's one of the things that helped me to meet my 2nd husband 3years after my 1st husband passed. Just when u think there is NO hope, something good can happen. God bless!!!!
Is that why he sounds so good. I don't know much about music, but this sounds perfect to me. I cannot imagine how it could sound better. The Platters are timeless and they were the greatest ever.
The greatest popular music male voice of all time. Love this and the memory of the golden voice that was. Tony died of emphysema - still singing on stage to the very end - but lacking the lung power and big notes of his early years. RIP Tony - you were the best.
This is the timeless song that first I lisened with unfortunately my late father. This song will be forever im my heart❤and soul. Tony Williams is one of the greatest voices of all time. R.I.P.
Love this song. My dad would make Sunday breakfast and blast oldies. I grow up listening to them, and now I am finding a new appreciation for them. What great music.
What an ironic paradox of a song. All who love are blind ...when your heart's on fire, u must realize smokes gets in your eyes.....when a lovely flame dies , smoke gets in your eyes . Very paradoxical that one is always in a state of blindness no matter what side of the coin it is.
Tony Williams should get more recognition as one of the best voices of the day. Johnny Maestro & Jay Black get all the credit they deserve but hardly anyone can tell you the name of the awesome voice leading the Platters.
I am one of the people who COULD tell anyone the name of the lead singer of the Platters .... but.... when I am so enthralled by a singing group or a lead singer..... I have ALWAYS made sure that I found out their name!!! I certainly feel as though they deserve it.
Listen to that song!!!. No microphones!!!!. What a voice Tony had. He gives me goose bumps. I LOVE THISE HIGH NOTES!!!!. Only he can sing them. What a group. The VERY VERY BEST OF ALL . WISH THEY WERE STILL ALL HERE. MANY GOOD MEMORIES. THESE SONGS WILL NEVER DIE IN MY EYES. RIP ALL. GOD BLESS AND LOVE U ALL. .😇😇😇😥😥😥😥😥🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏👏👏💋
Love, Love, LOVE The Platters! For my 25th birthday (1974) my folks had the local oldies station play this for me,THAT'S how much i love this song. if I could sing like that , I wouldn't even freaking TALK to people!
Yes..... this type of music.... and the era that it belonged to.... does not exist anymore. However.... I will NEVER forget this music as long as I am living!
Tony Williams was a beautiful man with a wonderful voice, and his eyes was really like fire, but many of these coloured singers and actors are very beautiful, because their eyes almost do the talking/singing......We will never get something like the Platters again.....thank you for the music.....
My sister who passed away last year loved to hear my mother talk this group when we were kids back in the 70s. When ever I hear this song, I think about my big sister. Love you big sis.
This was such a great hit and all the Platters songs were great. All of us teens were mesmerized by their singing when the DJ played their songs. The little guy with the mustache is Herb Reed the originator of the group, he died in 2012 at 83.
My grandfather and my grandmother were married in 1959 (I think it was in October) unfortunately my grandfather died in 1984, leaving only my grandmother.
ive got this in my collection along with punk , ska , reggae , rock and roll etc . i played this to 2 6 foot 5 skinheads once and they never said a word while it was playing they said afterwards damn that is some voice .
There so many underappreciated singers (and musical groups) in the world and maybe Tony Williams -and The Platters - is one of them all. Such amazing silky, smooth voice was a real gift and we, still living ones, have the opportunity to enjoy and admire Tony and his group; In my mind, though, they will remind forever been one of my favorites - Tony and The Platters !!!
This song was released when I became a teenager, and it brings to me so many remembrances of that year, I ceased to be a kid, but vould not behave or act like an adult yet. It took me four years to develop. A nice song really and very sentimental, Tony Williams was such a Great singer really.
The interpretation of the lyric makes me cry and lifts my spirits. What a shame he was so underrated by all the other crooners like Matt monroe, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Maffis and Sammy Davis Junior!!! Williams delivery is theatrical, well paced, and vowels and consonants are elongated on certain words to emphasise an emotion. He really paints with the larger intervals to show emotional changes and colour, very similar to Nat Cole in style and vowel resonance.
I'm so glad my late mother, born 1941, and graduated the same year this awesome tune was released, introduced my siblings and I to this great, timeless music. I believe I'm an old soul anyway lol, because I'm always listening to this and music before my time. This is so beautiful. Who cannot like this! 😍😍💕💕
I believe the song first showed up in the 1933 Broadway Play ROBERTA, by composer Jerome Kern & Lyricist Otto Harbach, and sung in the play by Tamara Dasin; in the 1935 movie reprise of ROBERTA, the song was sung by Irene Dunne.
Tony Williams....one of the greatest voices of all time. RIP
Full agreement, Mr. Williams also knew how to use those skills, delivering touch medium and power as needed.
Quantas recordações hoje 69 anos tem agradecimentos e saudades desse grupo que inspirava nossos sonhos
That guy was the best there ever was.
Name two more
Yes I agree a beautiful voice
In 1958 i sat in front of a juke box in the Army in Germany and listened to this beautiful song and i was 18 years old and now i'm 81.

BEAUTIFUL SONG OF TONY WILLIAMS
So nice, so wonderfull.
Tony Williams. In another time, he would have been on the stage at the Metropolitan Opera. His voice is one for the ages. RIP Sir Tony Williams.
One of the most beautiful songs ever performed
Agree. Just beautiful.

Music of the film Roberta with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers...
AT 83 I AM ENTHRALLED AGAIN BY ONE OF THE GREAT SOUNDS OF MY TEEN YEARS!!!!
Makes me think bavk to 54 to 58 when my steady girlfriend and I used to do the "elevator" dance (No Steps :-) )to the Platters. Of course I'd have to wait a minute or two before we seperated. ;-)

Tony Williams.. Superb voice, every note is perfect
*Tony* True, his voice is capable of delivering high notes without the slightest effort and in perfect pitch.
Is that why he sounds so good. I don't know much about music, but this sounds perfect to me. I cannot imagine how it could sound better. The Platters are timeless and they were the greatest ever.
Love this one👏👏👏
Knowing this song and film is here 60 years later, no one can deny it is a TRUE MUSIC CLASSIC .... Remarkable !
I was only 13 years old when I first heard this song 🎵. I wish we could go back to the 50's. This was a great era for me.
It was a great era for our nation, considering one of the main subjects in America today is gender confusion......
@@drizzt8965 YEAH!
I meant..... The 50's! Of course
@@debraweaver6308 Lol.
@@drizzt8965 the 50’s was far from great ☠️
I still do. It's my dad and mom’s love song. I still remember how my dad treated my mom with love and respect. I missed them both and those times.

I adore this song . A song my father used To listen and sing when i was a child . Such a beautiful voice !!
Still holds up well after all these years. An excellent example of the music matching the lyrics.
Such a magnificent singer. Everything was so effortless.

Absolutely!
This tune was already a standard sung by many great singers, male and female but I think this version is unforgettable.

The greatest male vocalist ever.
The Platters, on cassette. It was fire to a young person like me!
He had such a beautiful voice liquid gold
Oh yes this is the one, he is so smooth and sings the words with so much meaning!!!
If we’re here to remember we did OK we made it this far. Cheers. 83 and counting.

This is a perfect recording as far as mood performance and arrangement. Tony Williams is one of the singers in pop history

So beautiful. A simple basic love song without all the gimmickry of today's so-called music. Love the candle and the cufflinks !
