- The Platters singing "Only You", "Remember When" and "The Great Pretender" with an introduction by Mr. Allan Freed.
Lyrics:
Only you
can make oh this world seem right
Only you
can make the darkness bright
Only you and you alone
can thrill me like you do
and fill my heart with love for only you
Only you
can make this change in me
For it's true
you are my destiny
When you hold my hand, I understand
the magic that you do
You're my dream come true
my one and only you, only you
Only you
can make this change in me
For it's true
you are my destiny
When you hold my hand, i understand
the magic that you do do
You're my dream come true
my one my one my one and only you.
Remember when (dah-doot-doo-doo), I first met you (dah-doot-doo-doo)
My lips were so afraid to say, "I love you"
Remember when (dah-doot-doo-doo), to my surprise (dah-doot-doo-doo)
The heaven in my heart leaped into your eyes
Remember how much I cried
Tears of joy to think you were mine
Darling, down deep inside
I still feel that feeling divine
I loved you then (dah-doot-doo-doo), and I still do (dah-doot-doo-doo)
I can't remember when I didn't love you
Remember how much I cried
Tears of joy to think you were mine
Darling, down deep inside
I still feel that feeling divine
I loved you then (dah-doot-doo-doo) and I still do (dah-doot-doo-doo)
I can't remember when I didn't love you (remember when).
Oh-oh, yes, I'm the great pretender
Pretending that I'm doing well
My need is such, I pretend too much
I'm lonely, but no one can tell
Oh-oh, yes, I'm the great pretender
Adrift in a world of my own
I played the game but to my real shame
You've left me to grieve all alone
Too real is this feeling of make-believe
Too real when I feel what my heart can't conceal
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Yes, I'm the great pretender
Just laughin' and gay like a clown
I seem to be what I'm not, you see
I'm wearing my heart like a crown
Pretending that you're still around
Too real is this feeling of make-believe
Too real when I feel what my heart can't conceal
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Yes, I'm the great pretender
Just laughin' and gay like a clown
I seem to be what I'm not, you see
I'm wearing my heart like a crown
Pretending that you're still around
(Still around).

Good for you!😂😂😂😊❤
I’m happy for you. Our music was different where we could understand the words and sing to it.
I was definitely born in the wrong era. My mama tells me all the time, that I have an old soul.
You have great taste 😅
i am 90 yrs old & wonder why we lost this kind of music. i lovethese guys. 2024.
Music is generational...few genres of music pass on to the next generation...I am 77...Fifty years ago, my parents would ask me why their music was no longer popular!...I am lucky I guess, as I like at least some of my parent's music, then I liked Elvis, then the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, etc. Sometime around 1980, I stopped going to concerts, concentrating on work, and raising my two sons. But believe me...I love these old Doo-Wop classics, that remind me of how innocent I was back then...and how I grew up with harder, more progressive music that followed. I still feel strongly, that the best musical instrument of all , is the Human Voice!

@@Vladimann61 Nein! Danke du! (Did I say that correctly?).
Even though I grow up in the 60's and 70's I love the 50's music .
Brilliant music 😉
I consider myself to be lucky, to have been born in 1946...I was just old enough to remember my parents playing music from the earlier 50s, like Perry Como, Teresa Brewer, etc. I liked it!...and then Elvis came to town, and created a tidal wave of newer, basic Rock and Roll...I liked it!...and then the Beatles showed up, and somehow united a world-wide listening audience, throughout the 60s!..I liked that too!...It has been such a beautiful roller-coaster of a Musical Tapestry, that helped to define my generation.
I'm 43 and enjoy oldies
Where have all the these memories gone ,voices like Angels.
@Dustin.b.Portela Tired from work but ok

I'm 65 and I love the song ever since I was a kid still do at my age I think it's one of the greatest love songs
The first song we danced to and unfortunately the last. But what a life between.
Why the last
what a velvet tenor voice, Tony Williams was sheer magic.
Good listening music.....dancing too. The Platters, one of the "best" groups.

I love all their music. Can’t beat Tony Williams voice!
Only a few of us know one of the greatest loss of one of the most gifted Singers and still without comparison.
You are right.
Remember When. His voice is just awesome, best voice I ever heard.
Repeat remember
Play again Remember when
Totally agree ❤😊
RIP the GREAT lead singer Tony Williams!
EL MEJOR CANTANTE
I have loved the platters ever since I was a teenager.
It's so amazing that I can still enjoy those songs of so long ago which brings back so much memories
Вы правы!👏👏👏👍🥰
Only when❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
I bet they never knew how very spectacular they were and still are to this day….
Thank you for some wonderful music and memories.❤😊

I find it sad in the video of “only you “they show the yo-yo white couple & guy being seated ,
who cares about people being shown to their table.?
I am 42 and love this music.
Bald kennt diese SUPER Stimmen niemand mehr 😢😢😢hoffentlich bleiben sie uns erhalten auf UA-cam ❤
Ну,всяко бывает,заблокирует,как всегда США-стандартно.
In 1967, I was in the Finnish army doing my military duty. I had a Tandberg tape recorder with me, and full tape of The Platters from my brother. After a hard day's service, it was a great pleasure to listen to their evergreen music.
So say we all who are lucky to have grown up in this magical era of romantic ballads, and voter performers😅❤️🩹❤️
Listening to music like this in vocals is pure magic❤
Very good song and I love it .Take Care and may God Bless you and I do love this song
I wish I could go back in time and buy these guys dinner and a decent motel...
No doubt. They are all handsome and so pretty. So sad that we thought it was ok to treat them less than the stars they were. 😢. The best tenor ever

Ich bin 80 Jahre und diese Musik erinnert mich an meine Jugend. ❤❤
Same here I was in my teens when They became famous ! I just love them then, and still do now !
These songs puts one in an indescribable place
I was born in 1985, so this music came out over a generation before I was even born, but it still played on the oldies stations when I was a kid.
I've just been sitting here all night thinking about how it was the music my grandparents probably listened to in their 20s and 30s when they were newly weds and probably also when they dated.
It not only gives me a nostalgic feeling, but it even gives me an eerie kind of feeling...like I'm watching a world of ghosts on a video, knowing that all of those people are long gone, and I'm looking through a window into a different world that is also long gone. I'm sorry I did not appreciate this type of music for all those years when I was younger the way that I do now.
How eloquently put.
Even when I was still a 6th grader & n high school year, late 60 & early 70 I used to listen to their music. Now I'm a senior I love it more. Very nice.
I never get tired of hearing this. Pure talent and music.
I grew up with this fabulous group.

First heard the Platters when I was 5 yrs old in 1963... loved them ever since
Music of my childhood, 55 years ago, and now my children prefer listening to it, loving it more than the sounds from the new millennium.

I saw them when I was in the Army stationed in Panama. I went with my friend.
Now I found him 35 years later. We fell in love and have been together for 12 years now. We are both 65 years old.
J'ai toujours connue cette chanson, aussi petite que j'étais. Je connaissais déjà les paroles avant même d'aller à l.école. Mon père aimait beaucoup ce genre de musique, alors ont l'aimait aussi.
Love the Platters...I was in school when this popular song !

I noticed all the songs they sang where in front of all white people..wonder how they were treated?? The best group ever.. love all their songs❤
How old are you now
I skated many miles with my favorite partner to this song in the 50's ,still just as special now as then
That means racist
Im sure they were not allowed to eat or drink there.
@@thumperpaul155 They would have had to stay on stage. Shirley Bassey made the mistake of getting off the stage when she first came to the USA.
