- This video picks up where the last one ended at Amsterdam Ave. Crossing the Washington Bridge eastbound to the Cross Bronx Expressway (I-95 North) and eventually the New England Thruway up to the Toll Plaza.
Seeing this video
12 years late. Quality was insanely good!
Thank you, it was OK for the time.
I95 from New York City to New Haven is one of the nicest stretch of highways along that interstate.
I spent half of my life in South Bronx and this video brings me flashbacks of those wonderful and crazy days driving across the city from the Bronx to Brooklyn and Manhattan and from the Bronx to Queens or upstate New York... The speed limit on I-95 is 50 but it looks like you're going 75 my man :)
Excellent clips, it's like being there. Thanks for sharing!
I don't believe I ever saw this video before? Fun ride, but you'll never catch me driving it again! Already had my experience with the Cross-Bronx; not one I ever want to experience again, lol.
Great video, Jim. I've only driven this route once and it was good to go back!!! Great music, too!!
Great video Jim, I love the music! I'm driving to Ct tomorrow and I'm toying with going this way. I've been through here once before, but I do not have it on video. Thanks for the ride!!
Nice video. Great choice of music.
love your video ... you past my old exit - Rosedale Ave ... used to live in Parkchester ...never drove - always took the trains - was nice to see the old neighborhood again .. thanks for sharing ^..^
Man I love the videos. If you don't live in New York, this is the next best tour to take......hell, I'm enjoying the ride!! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cool video! I like these hi-speed impressions. Thanks for all the info! *****
I totally agree! I love this song. I even love the video too. It makes me want to get out of the city I'm in!
Thought I’ve seen all your NY videos.. nope lol nice drive!!
Thank you!
Back in 2007 I went with some friends from Dayton, OH to Providence, RI and drove the NJ, NY, CT, and RI portion of the trip because I was voted the better city driver to handle NYC traffic. When we got to the GW Bridge the wait was only 15 minutes which someone commented that wasn't to bad for the time of day we were crossing it (before 9 AM). Traffic was relatively light compared to what I had heard about. Overall it was a really good trip.
Makes me miss the Boogie Down
Nice music and I-95 in the Bronx is suffering from heavy southbound traffic in the weekends and weekdays and I had an experience of being stuck in the CBX during nighttime roadwork. Some of the visible subway stations found on I-95 are Mt. Eden Ave at exit 2A 4 train, West Farms East Tremont 2 & 5 trains (exit 4C), & Parkchester-177th street 6 train at exit 5A-C
Thank you very much!
In my travels along I-95 through the Bronx in New York, there are several bridges overpassing the Cross Bronx Expressway that are Elevated Subway Lines and several of their stations you can see within striking distance.presumably the IRT 1,2,5, and 6 (Pelham Bay Park Line). Another bridge that crosses below the expressway is the IRT 4 (Woodlawn-Jerome Line) and is about a mile from the famed Yankee Stadium.
I was driving through the Bronx during a heavy blizzard back in the early '80s. The conditions got so bad, people were abandoning their vehicles right in the middle of the highway. I still slogged along though, constantly having to get out of my van and digging my way out of ruts. My normal hour and a half ride from Jersey to Connecticut took me a good eight hours that day.
@MrJay1718: Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
You were LUCKY to get through the Cross-Bonx Expressway as fast as you did! Peace.
Thank you!
damn dude you made more me home sick i wish i was home i lived off of white plains road good work on the the video its all bout the bronx
Thanks! I've been releasing two a week all summer, including a few from NYC.
@Freewayjim, Thank you very much. that was quick!
@lorraineedmay : It's noted at 0:42 and in the closing credits but to save you the time the song is "Get Out of the City" by Ivy.
Back in 1969 & throughtout the 70s, when I was travelling bet. NYC & Boston, I remember that I-95 was a tollway most of the way through Conn. until that tollbooth in New Rochelle. I also remember hitting so much heavy traffic & construction--it seems like they have a perpetual project along 95 thru Conn. Since then, it was faster for me to go by way of I-90 thru Worcester, MA, I-84 thru Hartford, & I-684 into White Plains, West I-287, & south on I-87/Major Deegan into the city.
Next summer, I might put my wife in the car and head to her sister's camp in Maine via NYC. Looks like Sunday is the best day to go through without alot of hassle.
Wow, this video is really 11 years old now!
Wow. I know New York is the biggest city. Great job
One update. The toll booths in New Rochelle are being demolished, if not gone already, in favor of cashless tolling. The E-Z pass gantry is just past exit 17 northbound
would love to drive there too
Awesome!
Love it.
LOL, there's a lot of neat places to see in the country Iesha, I just got back from California not long ago, it was AWESOME!
A belated Happy Birthday to you!
@dvferyance Many bridges and tunnels in the NYC area are like that regarding the tolls.
How in the hell did you drive the Cross Bronx with no traffic??? I never even touch it at all because it's so bad 24/7. You got really lucky. I live in Boston now, originally from NYC and seeing this reminds me that I grew up in such a unique city. Nice video!
It was a weekend morning if I recall and thank you!
@interstateruler Thank you!
The New England Thruway is toll in the NB direction only so the SB side is free however I didn't know that until I went down that way. I find that strange a toll road one direction and a free route the other.
My dad lived in the Bronx for 40 years.
@cochrab Glad you enjoyed it, I hope traffic is in your favor when you head through.
Awesome, I would love to see what this roadway looks like in 2018!
James Grate basically the same
@funkyladybean -True! last car on fire I saw was on I-95 in Southern Virginia.
@jiffyjen Thank you!
@bcunningham13946 Thanks for watching!
Depends on where you're coming from and where you're going to. If you're coming from Washington and points south, you'll find tolls in MD (north of Baltimore), DE (just past the state line), NJ Turnpike, GW Bridge (Northbound only), New England Thruway and then more in New Hampshire and Maine.
@FoghornLeghorn1116 You are welcome, thanks for watching!
My uncle went to NY a few years ago. And he said he saw a car on fire in the middle of the highway in the Bronx.
@funkyladybean That has happened on I-65 North near Bowling Green, KY, after I filmed my William H. Natcher Pkwy video, the car fire has footage at the end of that video.
I try to avoid the Cross Bronx Expressway as much as possible. As for your video, did you get on where US Route 1 leaves the roadway? Lastly, as for the New Rochelle toll plaza, it sure looks as though it served both sides of the highway at one time.
@funkyladybean -True, however, the road was and is very much needed, it just could have been handled differently at the time, maybe as a tunnel or something w/o disrupting the neighborhood as it did.
The New England Thruway is very similar to the Don Valley Parkway.
On the New England thruway section of 95, The Valley's to the left baby!!! V4L!!!
A nice end for the nyc area video series. 5*
@cochrab Thanks!
Thanks! what do you mean by redo highways? if you mean re-film it at a later point, yes I do that if I think I can get better lighting conditions or make a better video.
as a New Yorker, I must tell you that terms such as "heavy traffic" "lots of traffic" "traffic jam factor of 10" and "traffic nightmare" are all synonomous with the Cross Bronx Expressway which why I rarely use that highway
Yes, two years ago.
That is NOT the Washington Bridge (and no I'm not confusing it with the GEORGE Washington Bridge). It is the Alexander Hamilton Bridge on I-95 from the GWB to the Cross Bronx Expressway. The Washington Bridge is just north of the AH Bridge (it would be on the left in this video if it were shown). The Washington Bridge connects the intersection of ML King Blvd (formerly University Avenue) EL Grant Hwy on the Bronx Side with West 181st Street on the Manhattan side.
Nice view of Co-op City around 2:00+. At 2:11 you can see the building in which I lived in the early 70s.
I'm sorry but you are incorrect, I was not on I-95 at the start of the video, I turned right off Amsterdam Ave and merged on to I-95 at 0:29 after crossingf the WASHINGTON Bridge which is just north of the Alexander Hamilton Bridge ( I even posted an aerial view at 0:20 explaining this, what else would you like?) which carries I-95, try again. www.google.com/maps/place/Washington+Bridge/@40.8468688,-73.930275,16.86z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x89c2f4188f2144db:0x1132f125c654660!8m2!3d40.8467073!4d-73.9279615!16zL20vMDg2bDFx
@MuzeTV: No, I live in Metro Atlanta, I just enjoy road trips.
DUDE! I have a serious question! how come u visited all of the states? are u from new york?
@sobriquetzzz Thanks!
If you liked this, you should check out the NYC videos I uploaded earlier this month.
The Cross Bronx Expressway is controversial for some who claim it contributed to the decline of the Bronx and that Robert Moses plowed thru the Bronx when he didn't have to.
Yes, Sunday mornings are a breeze through the city, Saturday mornings aren't bad either.
reminds me exactly of arroyo seco parkway
how many tolls does I-95 have in total?
Yes, I took a photo of it :)
@funkyladybean True, nor did he ever hold public office. You'll never see anyone with that much unbridled power again in a US city.
It's actually sped up about 3.5x so it looks more like 175 :)
Just take me with you! I never get to do nowhere :(
so many public houses around
@lorraineedmay: You are welcome ;)
@funkyladybean -Probably so, Robert Moses did not care one way or the other.
who sings this song, anyboy???? Thank you
At the toll plaza, did you see the gigantic I-95 shield? Weird...its like its a national emblem...
whats da name of da song,its cool lolz
"Get out of the City" by Ivy
@funkyladybean Sorry. I never ment to insult anyone. I was just saying what my uncle saw when he went to New York. I dont see much of that kind of stuff where I live.
In a few states it is legal I think, but overall you aren't supposed to but it's hardly ever enforced. The problem is most US drivers have no concept of lane discipline so sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.
Gotcha! :)
@FreewayBrent LOL, I don't blame you, it's usually a bear to deal with, but you did it once and that's what matters :)
U should try highway 401 Toronto.
The good times, when cars were easy to do oil changes… and drivers were drivers. Now everyone has license, causing traffic, driving and leasing the nicest cars.
I sent you a video via the message system.
Funny, I generally think of the Bronx as a junky part of NYC, but even from a freeway standpoint, it doesn't look all that bad...and we all know that all 5 boros have their good and bad parts. That looked like a bright sunny morning drive.
Morris Park ;)
If I got off at any of the exits in the first few miles you would.
New York to Houlton
rite afteronn exit 2a...jerome ave the bhig under pass was grand concourse ..and second im surpise the road was moving cuase i travel on it and yu just sit there wen traffic was bad..smh
pay my way?
Hey +Freewayjim please make it so those in Australia are able to view the Brooklyn video as right now it isn't enabling me to...
I can't control the copyright restrictions, if you are trying to watch on a phone, that might be the issue, try on a computer.
On a LAPTOP +Freewayjim ;) :D !!
Again, it's likely a copyright issue that I have no control over.
There is something called a VPN, you should look into it...
Bx
