This is my favorite video from you. I must have rode on this highway a thousand times. This video brought back memories for me. Thank you for this video!
This is absolutely one of my most favorite videos, the New York skyline in the foreground was beautiful, I experienced every moment of that ride, my exit would have been at(15W-18W George Washington Bridge), heading to NYC. The (Sopranos) theme song was an excellent choice, You masterfully crafted this video!!!!!!!!!! (GVJ) all the way!!
I live in Central New Jersey, and I have been on this part of the NJ Turnpike either going to Newark Liberty International Airport, Medieval Times in Lyndhurst, or New York on bus trips from the Trenton Area.
I ever wanted to see the pulaski skyway from ground, also the skyline of nyc from west. Thanks Really interesting Turnpike, a higlight on every second corner 5*
@adawilkes1 You are right about it being jammed at times but the Turnpike is still better than any highway east of the Hudson in the Greater NYC area, those are antiquated in a big way. I also agree that I-278 is the worst.
I-95 is signed on the Turnpike from Exits 6 to 18. Highway signs at I-287 at the Jersey Turnpike does refer to the roadway as both the Jersey Turnpike and I-95, and the onramps at Exit 10 do sign I-95 NORTH and I-95 SOUTH. From Exits 6 to 1, on the mainline the signs all say "TO I-95"
@racsito39 The Turnpike was built in 1951 as a Toll Road, the Interstate system was built in 1956 and some toll roads were grandfathered in to the Interstate System like the NJTPK, Pa Turnpike, NY Thruway and more (Some Toll Roads built after 1956 were also included in the interstate system). The section of the NJ Turnpike from Exit 6 south to Exit 1 is not marked as an interstate, just the Turnpike.
ur right at 1:12 about that part of the turnpike being complete mayhem. when i drove north from south amboy going home i was driving with the flow of traffic going 85 mph. but thats only between exits 12 and 14abc for some reason after that when it splits it slows back down to 65
Freeway Jim you should come to NY and take the Taconic State Parkway all the way to Albany it's a very nice drive and many small towns are along the roadway and even farmland. It's an amazing parkway to drive on
The car only/all vehicle config will soon be longer once it is extended further south from Exit 8A to Exit 6 (PA Turnpike) as part of the "completion" of I-95 in NJ. However I doubt it will ever be extended south of Exit 6 because you have the oddity of I-295, a free road built after the NJTP about 50 feet west of the NJTP from Exit 6 all the way down to the Del Mem Br.....its quite odd to say the least to see and drive, two totally separate freeways within eyesight of each other.
This is my only favorite turnpike and freeway in the NJ NYC area! Even thoh it crosses through the power plants and Industrial areas for NYC and NJ... still my favorite Transcontinental Freeway...
95 is the worst interstate in the nation, it's always backed up with traffic, even if you are going down the Miami I bet it's faster to take 81 and then cross over than deal with 95s traffic
Freewayjim I need some help from you! I am going to go to New York City in a few weeks. Is it ok to travel on the New Jersey Turnpike? I have heard there is a lot of traffic and congestion on it. I live in Richmond Virginia and I need your advice please!
@Sam60793 Because that's what I do! check my other videos. Otherwise t would have been a boring, slow 20-25 minute video, which would be too big for YT.
For some reason, it's always mystical to drive on this highway as you know millions of people use it in a year; to vacationing in NY/NJ to visiting family and going to work, the NJT has its merits despite the lackluster drive. (Except for the NYC skyline.) P.S I live in NY, so I know a lot about the highways in the Tri-state.
It's not fun driving on this, if it's not backed up with traffic then the New Jerseians drive like nuts, seriously the speed limit on this is 65 (I drive around 70-75) let I see lots of people blowing by me going freaking 80 or even 90
I go to Jersey every once and again and for one thing, I always take Exit 11 (Garden State Parkway to exit 109) and Exit 14C (Jersey City/Holland Tunnel) since my relatives live off that ramp. Besides, during the rush hour, the Turnpike can be backed up. And since the GSP is closed to trucks, they have their dual lane on the Turnpike.
I was just thinking, this local/express setup lasts for just over 50 miles, from Rossmoor, NJ to Manhattan. Its probably the longest such setup in the world.
Ah... the portion of the Jersey Turnpike I've only been on once (in the opposite direction). My main trek to points south via the Turnpike takes me from EXIT 10 (I-287) down to the Del Mem Br. But definitely like you said in the video, an interesting ride. I remember once traveling near EXIT 7 where there was a car that went from the middle lane, to the left lane and then skidded out of control off the right side of the road.
It's not exactly local/express. There are the cars/truck lanes, which serve all exits, plus traffic can enter either lanes, (depending what type of vehicle) when they enter the turnpike, plus you can't switch to one another.
i drive the njtp mostly from the 80 to exit 14a off the 78 njtp ext. honestly for being a truck driver i don't find it that bad, usually i cross either 4 am ish', mid afternoon, around 4 pm or around 10 pm. and honestly always a sweet drive at night but during the day it's not that bad as long as you know where you are going but besides that the spot that screws me up the most is the split for the east and west side going north i prefer the west side but usually wind up on the east side...lol
Look at it this way if this area cared about fluidity of traffic theyd a said f--- local opposition and build 95 as originally planned bt the Trenton Loop and 287.....the NJTP is wayyyy over capacity bt EXITS 6 and 8A......maybe even 11.....as well as down at Exit 1 esp SB
Well, one option would be to take the NJTP to Exit 13 and use I-278 East (Geothals & Verrazano Narrows Bridges) to the LIE, you'll miss all of Manhattan that way. Honestly, there is no "good" way to where you are going.
@MyMultimedia I have driven the turnpike once in the last four years so I really don't have anything to base an opinion on with regards to your question.
I agree with you in your reply to Sam60793, I don't really like taking the Turnpike, especially when going to MA. Going 95 is more scenic than just driving down a road with trees around it and not a single lampost for miles.
i saw part of I-95 on amtrak last year--looks like it was a lot of traffic on it. I was travelling from Boston to Washington DC. I plan on driving part of this stretch next year in my Chevy on vacation.
@mryoheylol Actually it's a 3-3-3-3 configuration, the lanes I'm in are for cars only, the outside three lanes are for Cars, Trucks, Buses and whatever, each set of lanes has their own exits and entrances. This "double-barreld" configuration was built in to the turnpike in the late 1960's, early 1970's when traffic in that area became heavier (The Turnpike was originally built in 1951).
This is my favorite video from you. I must have rode on this highway a thousand times. This video brought back memories for me. Thank you for this video!
Thank you for watching!
Your video makes me miss my home state of Jersey all the way down here in GA - LOVE THE SOPRANOS SOUNDRACK-GREAT VID MAN

NJ Turnpike...way to bring back memories from when I lived there 10 years ago
This is absolutely one of my most favorite videos, the New York skyline in the foreground was beautiful, I experienced every moment of that ride, my exit would have been at(15W-18W George Washington Bridge), heading to NYC. The (Sopranos) theme song was an excellent choice, You masterfully crafted this video!!!!!!!!!! (GVJ) all the way!!
Thank you! an oldie but goodie!
Thanks
Really interesting Turnpike, a higlight on every second corner
5*
@mryoheylol In the NJ Turnpike's case it is to keep car & truck traffic separated for safety reasons, that is a very heavily travled truck route.
Love this highway. Just like the Highway 401.
@adawilkes1 You are right about it being jammed at times but the Turnpike is still better than any highway east of the Hudson in the Greater NYC area, those are antiquated in a big way. I also agree that I-278 is the worst.
@vintagezigg NJ up bright and early and on the move! I dig 1.48 with the airplane adding its approval!
From Exits 6 to 1, on the mainline the signs all say "TO I-95"
AAAAHHH....New Jersey!! Where the smell of sulpher is always in the air!!
Thank you!
It's confusing cause I recall some signs saying ninety-five south of exit 6.
@onorebakasama -Thanks! What you saw in this video was tame compared to other times I've driven that road.
ur right at 1:12 about that part of the turnpike being complete mayhem. when i drove north from south amboy going home i was driving with the flow of traffic going 85 mph. but thats only between exits 12 and 14abc for some reason after that when it splits it slows back down to 65
Freeway Jim you should come to NY and take the Taconic State Parkway all the way to Albany it's a very nice drive and many small towns are along the roadway and even farmland. It's an amazing parkway to drive on
I'm not from the area so I don't know the traffic patterns as far as congestion but it is the most direct route, if it were me that's what I would do.
Oh yes, this is oh so familiar. You should return to the NJ Turnpike during mid winter....LOL
No mention of the car/truck lanes?
The car only/all vehicle config will soon be longer once it is extended further south from Exit 8A to Exit 6 (PA Turnpike) as part of the "completion" of I-95 in NJ. However I doubt it will ever be extended south of Exit 6 because you have the oddity of I-295, a free road built after the NJTP about 50 feet west of the NJTP from Exit 6 all the way down to the Del Mem Br.....its quite odd to say the least to see and drive, two totally separate freeways within eyesight of each other.
True and they are working on the 3-3-3-3 configuration from exit 6-8a that's where the current 3-3-3-3 configuration ends
awesome video! I heard this section has 2 I-95s.. where one splits..?
@spaceplanepilot Yes, the airport is to the left.
@adawilkes1 Thanks for the compliments. I wasn't counting the parkways, completely different animal.
@Freewayjim Im lovin these videos man! I definately use these videos to perfect my driving skills on the highway!
The road markings on the turnpike are so wierd and unique. Almost european :p
1:42 Shop Rite Truck!
This is my only favorite turnpike and freeway in the NJ NYC area! Even thoh it crosses through the power plants and Industrial areas for NYC and NJ... still my favorite Transcontinental Freeway...
Yea it's my favorite too. The ride from the Delaware Memorial Bridge to exit 12 is long and boring, but it picks up once you see lower manhattan.
Giants Jets up here! when your heading North, Eagles Suck infact all of Philly sucks LOL!
95 is the worst interstate in the nation, it's always backed up with traffic, even if you are going down the Miami I bet it's faster to take 81 and then cross over than deal with 95s traffic
No video of the A/C expressway
The song was scrapped in the shows intro from 2:13 to 4:00
Freewayjim I need some help from you! I am going to go to New York City in a few weeks. Is it ok to travel on the New Jersey Turnpike? I have heard there is a lot of traffic and congestion on it. I live in Richmond Virginia and I need your advice please!
Your best video IMHO
nice video man love new jersey turnpike
One of my favs Jim... excellent music.. How about a little Bruce or Bon Jovi on your next NJ adventure?
Is it express thru taffic one part and local at the other
why are you going so slowly, i rarely go less than 90 on the parkway and the turnpike...
I must have watched this video over 20 times and it wasnt just till now that I noticed you spelled interesting wrong at 2:13 xD.
This is some exciting stuff..........
Technically isn't I-95 not signed for the turnpike?
Right on Freeway Jim!
You know, Freewayjim, you always make videos?
You should make more New Jersey vids
Sopranos !
@thesassiwench Thank you!
Not a problem, "America" is just a more well knpwn song.
@Sam60793 Because that's what I do! check my other videos. Otherwise t would have been a boring, slow 20-25 minute video, which would be too big for YT.
There is a lot of powerlines
I live in Linden NJ right by exit 13
I didn't forget, I chose not to mention it :)
The funny part is the part from Exits 6 to 9 were still not widened.
They actually are. I-95 also got an interchange, it also runs on the Penna Turnpike to meet up with the NJTP on Exit 6.
They added a third lane on the outer roadway then they extended the dual dual to Exit 6
u should have got off exit 13 2 vist staten island-new york
@rev4life03 and you had to point it out? :P Fact is I spell fine, I'm just a I'm a lousy typist and proof reader.
Why in the world do they call New Jersey the garden state? It's just miles and miles of industrial wastelands.
@TheWeatherMaster: No such luck.
ive bin in exit 16w
@mryoheylol Check out my Chicago Dan Ryan Expressway Video, it is similar (3-4-4-3) to NJ.
lol IKEA XD
1:09: this is the antithesis of NIMBY where there is a 14 lane turnpike, a major seaport, an international airport, railroad lines, and oil tanks
Yeah, and a prime reason why Elizabeth is so cheap by the standards of the TriState Area; no one wants to live in that industrial wasteland!
Thank you!
Thanks for the memories!!! I've been transplanted to Indianapolis... Use to live AND drive the Turnpike..
Jim, thanks so much for this! You did an awesome job capturing my old home!
Thank you,
It's my favorite part too, I'm glad I was able to film it on such a beautiful day.
For some reason, it's always mystical to drive on this highway as you know millions of people use it in a year; to vacationing in NY/NJ to visiting family and going to work, the NJT has its merits despite the lackluster drive. (Except for the NYC skyline.)

Gotta love the way everybody is doing at least 80!
I was just thinking, this local/express setup lasts for just over 50 miles, from Rossmoor, NJ to Manhattan. Its probably the longest such setup in the world.
The southern end of it is in Mansfield now
The inside lanes are for cars only, the outside lanes are for Trucks, Buses and Cars, it's not a local-express setup like other NJ freeways.

Haha, that intro made me laugh out loud!
The theme song of HBO Original Series The Sopranos is Woke Up This Morning by Alabama3
Keep in mind that I-95 from exit 8A to 12 is 3-2-2-3, and is also shared with I-78 from exits 48-58 and I-287 from exit 21-17
I'd suggest that person see what else is on UA-cam and what else has been printed in postcards, photos & books over the last 100+ years. Puh-leze.
It's not exactly local/express. There are the cars/truck lanes, which serve all exits, plus traffic can enter either lanes, (depending what type of vehicle) when they enter the turnpike, plus you can't switch to one another.
If I did that I could not have made this video.
i drive the njtp mostly from the 80 to exit 14a off the 78 njtp ext. honestly for being a truck driver i don't find it that bad, usually i cross either 4 am ish', mid afternoon, around 4 pm or around 10 pm. and honestly always a sweet drive at night but during the day it's not that bad as long as you know where you are going but besides that the spot that screws me up the most is the split for the east and west side going north i prefer the west side but usually wind up on the east side...lol

You are probably right about that.
@Freewayjim
Don't worry about him FreewayJim. He is a low life to point out something minute like that.
@79Testo woah, easy there it was a joke.
Well, one option would be to take the NJTP to Exit 13 and use I-278 East (Geothals & Verrazano Narrows Bridges) to the LIE, you'll miss all of Manhattan that way.

@MyMultimedia I have driven the turnpike once in the last four years so I really don't have anything to base an opinion on with regards to your question.
It was either this song, Bon Jovi's "Runaway" or Motley Crue's "Kickstart My Heart".
Glad you liked it, thank you!
I did not see the new stadium unfortunately.
I use a Sony HDR-HC9 Video camera.
There is some Bruce coming an a NJ-NY video I am currently working on
I agree with you in your reply to Sam60793, I don't really like taking the Turnpike, especially when going to MA. Going 95 is more scenic than just driving down a road with trees around it and not a single lampost for miles.
@platformusa2: No. I've never driven the AC Expressway to be honest.
i saw part of I-95 on amtrak last year--looks like it was a lot of traffic on it. I was travelling from Boston to Washington DC. I plan on driving part of this stretch next year in my Chevy on vacation.
@MrTherockobama Yeah, if I get up that way again I would like to.
You get a really nice view of Giants Stadium on the western section.
Another nice one Jim.....
Yes, they split right before the Pulaski Skyway underpass.
The truck lanes are actually faster
well 3-3-3-3 is bigger skyway in 1955 1959 1966 and 1974
I think there should be an update, as the I-95 gap was filled in 2018.
Maybe I'll be able to do that the next time I'm in the area.
To dangerous for this highway or something's to do.
@Jerseybubblegum Thank you!
@79Testo Thanks man.
Why arent there as many blondes on the east coast???
