This makes me want to move to Atlanta even more. I've been loving Atlanta since I was a kid. And I'm 16. I love Atlanta more than most of the people that live there, and I live 3 hours away. People will never understand what it is about this city that I love.
That view of Midtown and then Downtown, driving southbound along I-75 & I-85 is easily one of the best skyline views along any freeway in America. Love it! Did you film this on a Sunday night, 'cause I certainly experienced more traffic when I drove this at night! And oh man, that drive thru the tunnel is great. It looks better at night, when it's all lit up. Favorited!
Hey Jim, thanks for doing this! I'm a truck driver from California and as you may know, trucks aren't allowed inside the I-285 loop unless making local deliveries. I've been to the Atlanta area loads of times but never inside the Perimeter. Your videos give me a good look at downtown Atlanta that I may never see otherwise. You rock!
My cousin and first girlfriend both live in the Atlanta area, and when I see these videos of your rides in a city I refer to as "The New York City of the South" they are awesome.
On my recent (August 1-3, 2014) trip to my soon-to-be-new home in middle Georgia, I had the pleasure to retrace your video steps throughout metro Atlanta. It was a great ride, one I hope to repeat many more times.
Atlanta is definitely one of the greatest cities in the world! Going through these freeways, I experience a feeling of connection to the past trade and rail routes which became these freeways, a feeling of a modern South, and realize how much I want to return one day for retirement long down the road. I sleep better at night seeing the home I will one day return to Freewayjim! I have everything to thank you for on that!
Freewayjim Most definitely. I pretty much watch it almost every night before I go to sleep. Based on my situations, it will probably be another 5-10 years before I move back but these videos have become one of the ingredients to curing homesickness.
Hotlanta! I really loved this video, Jim. I've always wanted to see what the 285 runway tunnels look like at night. I predict that this will be your next 100K+ views video.
I'm not sure why you thought Jim was implying that "Buckhead" within Atlanta was somehow an incorporated city. Atlanta locals refer to that area as "Buckhead"...same thing with how local residents in San Francisco refer to northwestern San Francisco as "Richmond" or the "Richmond District", even though there's an actual city, located 15 miles northeast of San Francisco, with the exact same name.
Freewayjim - you've obviously been all over the country. What do you like about Atlanta and calling it home? It seems like a city worth visiting for sure.
My family moved to ATL from New England in the 1970's and I would not move back up there. The Atlanta city/area has a lot to offer and it's very easy to get around and do things and the cost of living is among the lowest among cities its size and the weather is not too bad either. It's all personal preference, what works for me may be boring to someone else.
Nice! I visited Atlanta last week! What I did was crazy (from Tampa and back, no hotel only rest area in Gainesville on the way back, I arrived at Atlanta close to 8pm on Friday and entered some parts of Midtown and Buckhead the city looks really nice in the nights.
depends on where you're coming from, where you're headed, and what time you're traveling. from south of the airport on I-85 to midtown can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour or more depending on traffic
@b0gdanB Yes, to use the HOV lane (far left) you have to have 2 or more people in your vehicle (or be on a motorcycle) or you can and will get a ticket.
@specialkvi Talk about perfec timing. They even captured the Marta train passing over the freeway at 1:28 to 1:31. Now that really takes some expert timing! LOL
So.....how about some history lessons on the old I-85 in Mid-town ATL? I would gladly appreciate some info on the remains of that section of interstate, thanks!
Hello Jim My name is Kathy I worked for Husky Systems at the time Jasper Construction Company Sub contracted through our company In order to fabricate parts for the bridge and enter walls in the United States Expressway system At that time I was the number one die setter press brake operator and of course I punchd sheard band sawed my way through hundreds of miles of structural steel I even had to do a one inch offset with a 1 inch square die That consisted of having to hit the blockout bracket twice instead of the normal one hit that I would have gotten with a offset die My boss Oliver Chapman at the time show me the blueprint and asked me how I was going to do this I said its easy I am going to hit the first brake on a stop then flip it and bump the second brake on bottom of the 1 inch square die :-) Double work but I got her done lol!
I live in Atlanta. This was 11 years ago (a little before I moved here).So many new high-rises went up in Midtown since this was shot. You wouldn't recognize it anymore. Plus the traffic is worse XD
Music like this is too up-tempo for a street tour, would not fit well and I won't be doing any filming until next year as I just got back from a major trip out west.
@Freewayjim Question, are the HOV lanes on I-85 and other freeways in Atlanta open access? I only see like 2 broken white lines seperating from main traffic so I'm kind of curious.
Best music and best time for it and if there was a video version of it, I could imagine that it would be in a club on a Friday night and everybody having a good time just dancing, and you just sitting on the side having a few drinks then seeing your crush and ask him and he says yes and you join in the crowd.
@dtw777 the traffic can get really bad sometimes, even late at night. It depends where you're going but I just went through there for a joy ride yesterday and it took about 2 hours (not much traffic at 1am lol).
@MrDj14696 This is a very easy city to get around, you would adapt in no time, the only problem is the volume of traffic but the roads are good, and generally well marked.
This makes me want to move to Atlanta even more. I've been loving Atlanta since I was a kid. And I'm 16. I love Atlanta more than most of the people that live there, and I live 3 hours away. People will never understand what it is about this city that I love.
Did you ever move to Atlanta
@@twcfanc24 yes and moved away lol. Lived there for 6 years and moved to Dallas, TX a year and a half ago.
Favorited!
fantastic video and fantastic music
I love your videos because they remind me of the great times I had in the ATL! Hope to get down there again real soon!
My mom works at the airport so I frequent it quite often, the 5th runway tunnel is most definitely a blast to drive through!!!
You rock!
I love your vids!! Been wanting to visit ATL for the longest...this kinda makes me feel like I'm there. Keep posting!
thanks for all your ATL videos man. I moved away a few years ago so its nice to see it again. Takes me back!
So this is where the intro footage came from 😂 great video man!
Yes and thank you!
Perfect timing with the music and runway tunnel approach. Keep up the good work Jim!
My cousin and first girlfriend both live in the Atlanta area, and when I see these videos of your rides in a city I refer to as "The New York City of the South" they are awesome.
Hello how are you doing today?
You're the king of highway vids!!!
@AxmKap That is the MARTA North line (Rapid transit), same thing at 1:30.
Thank you very much!
Atlanta makes me think of all of the lights it's so beautiful......I live down here
Great work Jim..
Thanks for the video!
Thank you!
Thanks, I am originally from NH but have lived in Atlanta since 1977.
On my recent (August 1-3, 2014) trip to my soon-to-be-new home in middle Georgia, I had the pleasure to retrace your video steps throughout metro Atlanta. It was a great ride, one I hope to repeat many more times.
That's pretty cool, thanks for sharing.
Great video! I like the nice sights of the skyscrapers and this is an excellent video! I really enjoyed, thanks for posting.

Freewayjim

+John Kim Wow, that's cool, thanks for sharing.
Another fantastic vid' added to my playlist FreewayJim.
That was nice. I miss Atlanta. Towards the end you were flying...driving like an Atlantian...teehee.
That was the best time to film in what is the greatest city in my opinion! It's also a time when I'm winding down yet working late for the next day!
Great video! 2:02-2:05 is the perfect entrance into the city. It's quite fascinating approaching the city from 85 North.
I love this highway to the airport! Cool tune!
Hello how are you doing today?
Great video loved the runway part and the music choice was great also.
Hello how are you doing today?
Cool video! I love Atlanta!
Btw I wanted to say that you made me a fan of Zebra on your old film of westbound 20 from ATL.
Hotlanta! I really loved this video, Jim. I've always wanted to see what the 285 runway tunnels look like at night. I predict that this will be your next 100K+ views video.
great video!!!!!
Just noticed you hit the Daily Double on the Connector. All the lights!
You are the man!!!!
Very good !!!!!
Jim do a video of the Atl airport, so we can get a very good look of the inside the airport......
This is cool!!! Love it.
That was actually entertaining. The music went well with the video.
@ScrewdUPClickV2 The DC is definitely a cool road 12-16 lanes the whole way.

Well said!
love these even more at night

I like th music on the other video 3 states in 6 minutes.. Great Video..
Thank you Sir :-)
I was living for 9 years I love atl
Atlanta looks fun. only been to airport then driven north. never really experienced the city.
depends on where you're coming from, where you're headed, and what time you're traveling. from south of the airport on I-85 to midtown can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour or more depending on traffic
@FreewayAndrew Thanks, it's pretty impressive in the daylight.
Thank you for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
i love going down that path to the airport :) brings back memories!
#goATL
awesome ride..thanks
Hello how are you doing today?
@b0gdanB Yes, to use the HOV lane (far left) you have to have 2 or more people in your vehicle (or be on a motorcycle) or you can and will get a ticket.
Atlanta is the most Gorgeous city u can go too Its ATL baby!
I beg to differ. Try San Diego and then compare.
@Decutta Thank you!
@specialkvi Talk about perfec timing. They even captured the Marta train passing over the freeway at 1:28 to 1:31. Now that really takes some expert timing! LOL
@2004JETTA Thank you!

Hello how are you doing today?
This music is good for the soul.
Jim thanks for showing my city in all it's splendor. are you from the ATL?
@Omegasunrise Awesome! Thanks :)
@tarik1the1 yes, I believe it is, they are currently building a new International terminal.
@CosmoPhotography Thanks! and I hope you are right! The tunnel is so cool at night, the camera did not do it proper justice.
@BabyBang17datruth Good question! I thought the original plan was to start in November 2011 but there is no sign of any activity yet.
Nice, that must be an interesting endeavor, thanks for the note Kathy.
Great video. The tunnel was somewhat suprising to appear.
@casmatori Thank you!
@eluko79 Thanks, in this case I think a less than pristine windshield caused those light rays/flares :)
I went to turner field this past July for a braves vs Nationals game in a suite, and I wore a Bryce Harper shirt
@FreewayBrent Thanks, yes we shot this last Sunday night (Mem day weekend).
@adogg619 Yes, you can only enter and exit at the broken double white lines although most folks ignore that rule.
@Bryant5493 Thanks, yes I've seen many on that stretch too!
It's not a song, it's an Apple Loop called Chelsea Loft, there is a full version of it here on YT.
@VHM072010 Thanks, I have other videos posted that show the tunnel in the daylight.
I live in Atlanta. This was 11 years ago (a little before I moved here).So many new high-rises went up in Midtown since this was shot. You wouldn't recognize it anymore. Plus the traffic is worse XD
@Omegasunrise Thanks!
Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport is THE busiest airport in the world, look it up.
@0marigolds Thanks, I think those are a result of a less than clean windshield but I liked the effect just the same :)
Yeah I may do a video on that at some point, probably not this year though.
@DaddyIvo Thank you!
@FrankG5874 Thank you, and that is a reasonably accurate description, although Charlotte, NC is the banking center of the south.
@jim301288 It is pretty cool indeed, FWIW they refer to it as the "Brookwood Split" on traffic reports.
Can you do a video with house music like this riding through midtown/buckhead at night? like up down peachtree?
Music like this is too up-tempo for a street tour, would not fit well and I won't be doing any filming until next year as I just got back from a major trip out west.
This is the perfect northern VA night song for the freeways
pretty sweet vid! :)
Thanks for watching! I went to California for the first time this past June and have been posting videos from there, loved the Golden State!
@Freewayjim
Question, are the HOV lanes on I-85 and other freeways in Atlanta open access?
I only see like 2 broken white lines seperating from main traffic so I'm kind of curious.
@Curtains1337 You're welcome! Thanks for watching.

Hello how are you doing today?
It's a great city, plain & simple!
very good !!!!!
@TheDeen114 Thanks, I use a Sony HDR-HC9 on a tripod on the front seat floorboard. I have a video up on my channel showing the setup.
Yes, I live in the metro area.
@dtw777 the traffic can get really bad sometimes, even late at night. It depends where you're going but I just went through there for a joy ride yesterday and it took about 2 hours (not much traffic at 1am lol).
at 4:00 the I-85 south to Columbus 👍👍 is where i was born, raised, and still live.
@FreewayTitan Thanks Max.
@the905sDW Thanks Dustin!
@MrDj14696 This is a very easy city to get around, you would adapt in no time, the only problem is the volume of traffic but the roads are good, and generally well marked.
@ArtificialBanana Thank you!
@GeoffJennyOliver Thanks!
