- The Abbasid invasion of Asia Minor in 806 was the largest of a long series of military operations launched by the Abbasid Caliphate headed by Caliph Harun al Rashid against the Byzantine/Roman Empire headed by Emperor Nicephorus i (nikephoros I). The expedition took place in southeastern and central Asia Minor, where the Abbasid and Byzantine empires shared a long land border which in 805 used by Nikephoros to launch attack against the Abbasids.

Krum couldn’t do nothing at that time while he was still mustering his army . After the plunder the Byzantian troops were disordered and they were reaching back to Byzantine. But then Krum strikes at the”Vurbitsa pass”, annihiliated the romans and made Nikiphorus skull A Cup for his vine :)

Well yeah, because the mongols were never penetrated Constantinople the same way they fricking run amok on major Mesopotamian cities such as Baghdad and Samarra.
Although after 9th century the Abbasid were losing control over their vast territory to the local dynasties, these dynasties still paying annual tribute to the Head Honchos anyway. So the Caliphs somewhat still have a matter to said for certain degree on the regional affairs.

What i concluded when reading world's history is that the early days of every empires always started very strong, conquering and replacing much older and already very weak nations. The new empire became the new superpower until it past it's heyday and starting to be stagnanted and disintregated, entering the periode of declined. Becoming weaker and weaker as time goes by. The already very weak empire were ceases to exist, or being topped and conquered by the others and much newer dynasty. Then this new dynasty will continue the cycle over and over again. Nothing last forever.
