Your fatwood reminded me of my first "campouts". It was around 1952, when I was 9 or so. We would camp in the yard behind the house on our dairy farm. Like all of South Alabama, it was once pine forest. The forest was long gone, but we could walk around the pastures for an hour and gather a couple of gallons of pine knots (we called them lightard knots, short for light wood knots). That was our fire for the night. We cooked a pound of bacon and fried potatoes in the bacon grease (bigfoot probably smelled it for a mile). That with a bottle of ketchup and we felt well fed. Still camping 72 years later, but eating better.
Just bit the bullet and joined the Patreon. Really enjoying the videos and after a major mental health downer, I'm trying to get back out and back to camping at the moment, so these videos are giving me more of a push. All the best.
Thank you! I really appreciate that. I'm sorry to hear about your recent struggles. I myself do this for my own mental health. The human construct world is a challenge one. Getting into nature removes a lot of unnecessary complexity. I hope you can get back out camp. I promise you it will help. Take care and thanks for your support.
Absolutely brilliant to see some of the bushcraft tips coming back in, please keep giving us those - those skills are fascinating and your McQ channel got me into bushcraft back in the day, and I'll sure I wasn't alone in finding it all super interesting. As always a great vid. Thanks
Great job! Enjoyed the video. I used to be a logger. We would cut timber in the National Forrest areas in the wintertime because it was more accessible in the winter. One thing most people don't realize, at least in the US, loggers are not allowed to cut what they want, every single tree is marked to be cut. Most of the time, these trees are diseased, damaged, or at risk to other trees or people that might enjoy the forest. Very rarely are healthy trees harvested. Even more rare are clear-cuts authorized. Loggers provide a necessary service to US Forests, and it is to provide an environment where the forests will thrive.
G’day from Oz… thanks for your video 👍. Here’s a story about creepy, horror videos for you… in 2011 a few of us were doing a trip on the Canning Stock Route in Western Australia. Before we commenced the trip we camped at Wolf Creek Crater and one of the group had brought along the epic Oz horror movie “Wolf Creek” for us to watch there. You actually had to drive past Mick’s shed to get to our campsite…not too many of us had a restful night’s sleep that night.
I've been following you since your MCQ days. It's always good to see you return to your roots. Would love to see you hunt for dinner while you're out. How's the family?
Ahhhhh hence the "wilderness" in your channel name.... Appreciate the outdoor skillz there and awesome to see all the gadgetry in action. If you would have pulled out a banjo or harmonica I would have not been surprised lol. Great episode 🤘🏻
Great Camp! Loving the bushcraft, got to show the obligatory fire lighting. Just like old times. That Jeep sound so good!! I camped in my Forester for the first time last month and had the best 4 nights of sleep ever while camping. I got a tent that attaches to the back of SUV and it worked out great. Anywho, thanks for sharing your adventures.
I live in the country and every year my kid's bring the grand kids out for a week of camping at my house , after camp is setup they all have to use the fire starting kit I made for them to start a fire .
A great video Mike. The bits of humor made me chuckle. Because of all the radiation/chemo, I rarely get hungry these days; so I can definitely empathize with the sparse diet. Cheers dude.🤙
How's it all going with the treatment? I remember you had a big op a while back? Hopefully, you're on the mend and getting back out a bit. Thanks again for watching, and I'm glad you enjoyed it.
After another six months of chemo, the growth of the little bugger has been halted. However, the doctor just prescribed another ninety day cycle. ‘Don’t pray for an easy life. Instead, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one.’ Bruce Lee
Thank you for positive comment. I’m just a humble subscriber from the days of McQ Bushcraft channel. Been fighting a brain tumor(oligodendroglioma) ever since coming out of a coma back in 2010. 🤙
May God continue to bless and protect you my friend. 2corinthians 1:9 "Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God who raises the dead." ✝️🙏💪
Glad new set up working well Mike, hard to go back. Have a different model of same vehicle that has slightly different seat set up, so will need to play with platform to get it going again. Makes sense to use the mobile cabin we’re driving around… Thanks for the vid mate…👍
Thanks for bringing us along on this trip, Mike. Love the incorporation of some bushcraft skills--no apologies necessary. Interject more in the future if you are so inclined! I continue to be impressed with your camera work. I can't imagine how much additional effort is required to bring us such great images (from different camera angles) while still attending to necessary camp chores. You are the best!
Hi Mike. Good to see you are out again. The setup looks great. Regarding vitamin D, please take it together with vitamin k2, with meals sincer they are both fat soluble only. You also need to supplement magnesium(I recomend bisglicinate, avoid citrate since it can cause diarea) because its needed in the absorbtion of vit D. You can find plenty of research to confirm the info above. All the best to you and your loved ones!
I eat quite a lot of K2 foods, although I do take magnesium. I might buy K2 also, actually now you have mentioned it. Thanks for the info and for watching
Another awesome video... Always full of humor and great filming. Ah yes Bigfoot... He is watching you out there, you know that..??. Solo camping is just so good for the mind/body... Oi love watching your adventures... Im so looking forward to getting my XJ out there. Take care out there.. Cheers 🇦🇺😎🌞
My hero. Waiting only about 30 seconds for my first Bigfoot giggle 🫡 Jeep looks fantastic. Maybe figure out a custom “device” pillow that straps around your passenger head rest and drops behind the seat, saving you space and potentially gaining you comfort. I used my backpack to fill the gap between the seat and down rear seat then rested my pillow on that. Again absolutely love the work you do. The outro gives me chills. You’re a beast. Looking forward to more videos barring the big guy doesn’t snatch your ass up on the next journey 😅
Thanks mate, appreciate it! That's a nice idea for the head rest etc, it's still a working progress, but hopefully, I can figure something out. I want to adjust the seat so it folds forward more. I just need a bit more head room. Hopefully, the big man leaves me alone on the next one. The snow is coming, so hopefully, it's a bit lighter at night. Thanks again!
Nice seeing your videos again, I bought a Honda crv with a similar purpose to what you are doing, it won't be extreme like what you do with the jeep but I am hoping it will get me out more doing more fishing.
Ah, nice, congratulations on the vehicle. It sounds like it will be perfect for that. It's nice to have a vehicle like that to get out and fish, etc. I hope it all goes well and thanks for watching
I found when I cross those technical river crossing, I over inflate the tires and XJ just tip toes across the problem areas.. let me know what you think.. enjoy the journey.. thanks for sharing..
Aren't You tired of swing away tire carrier already? I used to make myself one: it carried a wheel, hi-lift jack, 20l canister. It was sturdy but swinging all that weight everytime I wanted to get to the back of the vehicle was such a pain that I ended up going back to simple bumper. Spare wheel landed on the roof and that was it.
Ziarelli Cruiser tyres are a great cheap option for the winter. I live in Denmark and got these on my Navara. Has the Snow symobol so your legal. Not sure if they do them in the size you need. Very same as the old BF Goodrich ALT's thread but with siping. Its a good budget option when there is no funds for the more expensive options 😜Love the videos, and the injection of hunmour 👍
Kan ha missat någon kommentar men visst är det väl bara dubbfria däck som måste har nya symbolen. Är däcken dubbade så är dom ok även utan ”alptopp”. Så tolkar jag det iaf. 😉
I bought it in Sweden although they no longer stock it it seems. archiwum.allegro.pl/oferta/snorkel-jeep-cherokee-xj-diesel-prawy-dolot-i7373224908.html This is the model I have. Thanks for watching.
Superior video again mate. Youre jokes are funny af, and get me out of my dark days. One question, minute 22:26 youre LB Custom Knife Handle looks a little bit worn, like the threads worn out. Never saw something like this on Micarta. Is it just the video?
I'm about an hour from my home. So it's not crazy far. It's all a bit remote around these areas, though. It gets more remote the further north you go. Thanks for watching
I made them about 3 years ago from memory. They are meant to be sliders also. I have a couple of videos of how to build them on the channel. Thanks and thanks for watching
Really? That's great news. I was told otherwise by the tire shop. Transportstyrelsens website actually says what you just said "or studded." Thank you and thanks for watching
Yeah, I could hunt in lots of places, but I need a hunting licence, and it's not easy to obtain when you're doing it in another language. It's going to take time, and I'm in no rush at the moment. I will get it eventually. Thanks for watching
I normally leave it down the side of my seat in the Jeep. I don't store it in any special way to be honest. Perhaps its the composite that's different? I like to think I support you Mike by watching you and your fat wood. I do it for you and take no pleasure in it! Your rig looks even more capable without the weight of Bigfoots dong on the roof.
This brought back memories from the old mcqbushcraft days.
With bigfoot about I think I’d be hoping I didn’t encounter any fat wood. You’re a brave man going looking for it.
Hahaha! That's true, I would be limping home, I think. Thanks for watching
Damn I was going to say that.
🤣🤣 Good one

It does smell good haha!
Crossing the river was an epic journey, a true gem in the wilderness crown! But it was just the beginning... Nice episode!
I was lucky to have made that crossing. Thanks for watching!

Loving these regular uploads. Great to spend a little time with you in the wilderness. Even if it is through a tv screen. Cheers.
Great video. Using our gear and skills never gets old. Lots of enjoyment. - Mike From Canada
Haven't watched a video of yours in a while Mike but this reminded me why I love your work. Really enjoyed watching it. Cheers!
Thanks for watching, and I'm glad you enjoyed the trip.
We are driving a XJ inline six for almost 13 years now but sometimes we miss the sound of our ‘96 VM diesel. Great video thanks 👍💪🙏
Great Camp! Loving the bushcraft, got to show the obligatory fire lighting. Just like old times. That Jeep sound so good!!

PS If they would just plant back and leave space for other species to grow..... 🙄 my guess is it take 30 years to regrow trees to harvest.
love your content. Made me get a jeep again :D and im now enjoying some great car camping in it. Thnx for the inspiration👍
I'm glad I could inspire a Jeep purchase, haha. Sound fantastic 👌 I hope you have some great trips in it! Thanks for watching
always beautiful to see you
Crazy how I've lived in Sweden my entire life and never seen mountains. I really need to go up north soon. See some true wilderness!
I hope you can get up here sometime. It's a bit dark at the moment, but April and August are good times to visit. Thanks for watching

It's been comfortable so far, and I like how wind isn't an issue anymore. I will see how it all goes in the colder months. Thanks again for watching

Great wood splitting technique and fire starter
Thanks for sharing this! Been an XJ fan for years. Always wanted a build similar to yours! These adventures are excellent and I'm sticking around!
Love the Outro! Gives good vibes and is motivating!
That small river side would be a perfect spot for little tent sauna 😃
Thank you so much for sharing!! Everything you did to build your fire was new to me. Great techniques! Hope to get out and practice.
Tervaspuu is what we call it in finland and yes, you do have to smell it everytime 🙂↕️… it is an addiction. 😅
Great video. I’m really enjoying the dry humor that I don’t remember seeing in your earlier videos. I really dig it. Keep up the great videos!!!
Comedy gold with your logging spiel & realisation of the gas guzzling jeep 😂
Originally all of my bush craft skills I learned from you for camping purposes! Thank you!
Another great video Mike! Love the set up 👍
Great vid as usual, but I don't do the cold. In the fall I dig a hole and crawl into it with a heater to wait for spring.😆
Thanks for the upload and the little bit of fire craft. Looked like a nice outing..:)
Another awesome video...
Always full of humor and great filming.
Ah yes Bigfoot... He is watching you out there, you know that..??.

Thanks for the laughs and the Bushcraft, Mike. Cheers. 🙂🏕🔥
Thanks for lighting that fire for me bud!! i appreciate it!

You crack me up mate! Another quality vid, cheers

Great video, seems much easier without a tent. Jeep looks great!

Hi there is the axe from thornwood forge U.K. if so how u liking it?
It certainly is! It's the Harrier Forest Axe - we'll leave it to Mike for his thoughts 🪓
Looking good without the RTT
Yeah, I think so. It handles well! Thanks for watching
Regards to the guy with the large footprints!
Amazing image at 21.12.
Nice with a bit of MCQBushcraft references👍👍
Thanks for watching
Great content McQ, is that a new outro? Very nice!
nice jeep
Very enjoyable, hey Mike if you do like watching scary movies when you're out, try a film called 'the Babadook' that one chit the life out of me.
Great stuff!
Hi there . Where'd I get and what is it your cooking on . Awesome idea and Awesome setup

Bigfoot says: nya vinterdäck som sålts sedan dess måste ha symbolen alptopp/snöflinga (3PMSF) ELLER vara dubbade

Been watching since you reviewed the ESSEE 6. Watched the build of this truck, how's the wife, child and dog?
Woah! Where did you get your snorkel? Do you have a link? I’ve been searching for exactly that for months!
I bought it in Sweden although they no longer stock it it seems. archiwum.allegro.pl/oferta/snorkel-jeep-cherokee-xj-diesel-prawy-dolot-i7373224908.html

Where did you get those arches from they look sick! , I ve got some rubbish fibreglass ones that keep breaking
I made them about 3 years ago from memory. They are meant to be sliders also. I have a couple of videos of how to build them on the channel. Thanks and thanks for watching
@ ideal i’ll have a look
We call it "FAT-WOOD" here in the states.
you said you used to hunt. are there no provisions for hunting in sweden?
You can hunt here, and it's a good environment for it. I have to take a test to get my hunting licence.
Thanks for watching
Hello. What engine oil do you use in summer? The manufacturer recommends 15w40, but everyone uses 10w40
I use 10w40. In the engine manual, I have it says 10w40.
Thanks for watching
What is the maker of your fixed blade edc camp knife? Looks different.
I laughed hard at 3:00 lol
That crossing could have made the thumbnail! Thanks for watching
Your tires is not iligal when you have studs in them. The new law only aply to studles tires.
Really? That's great news. I was told otherwise by the tire shop. Transportstyrelsens website actually says what you just said "or studded." Thank you and thanks for watching
Phew! I was gonna be bummed on Mike’s behalf if all of that effort was in vain!
Mike, you can't hunt where you are now, can you? I know you've said, but I can't remember if there are any hunting lands near you.
Yeah, I could hunt in lots of places, but I need a hunting licence, and it's not easy to obtain when you're doing it in another language. It's going to take time, and I'm in no rush at the moment. I will get it eventually. Thanks for watching
Brother how do you keep/store your ferro rod? mine gets corroded and dusty all the time :((
I normally leave it down the side of my seat in the Jeep. I don't store it in any special way to be honest. Perhaps its the composite that's different? I do have some in the basement that seem to oxidise and they are a much softer compound.
You could always try putting some fat or cooking oil on it.
I hope this helps!
@ thanks mate! 👍 ‘ve been your subscriber since good old mcq times and glad to see you in the woods again brother! Cheers
@MrLashaKobi thanks mate, I appreciate it!
Which RVRC pants are those? I've been trying to find them but can't seem to.
Good lad
Is the wood with resin, basically fat wood?
Yeah, exactly. It burns violently, and it's useful for wet days. Thanks for watching
you only run a front sway bar?
That's correct
🔥🚙💯🔝🔥🚙💯🔝🔥🚙💯
She’s probably not the only one 😂
Where is this?
What’s the best movie so far?
I always smell my logs
❤️👊🏽
12:26 my gf excuse the other day 😂
😂
🤝👍👍👍
I like to think I support you Mike by watching you and your fat wood. I do it for you and take no pleasure in it! Your rig looks even more capable without the weight of Bigfoots dong on the roof.
Whether you believe or not, that's up to you, but it's hard not to stand in wonder of the Lord God and His Hand. ✝️🇺🇲🙏
Hey
You're tyres have "POR" marks, it should give you the legal rights to drive with them.
