- Its time to throw on a Budget Lift kit on the Jeep Cherokee XJ!
In the previous video, we mounted up the new 31s on the Rough Country wheels, but needed more lift to turn.. • Back in the Shop with ...
I wanted to start off with something budget friendly, would ride good on road, offer enough lift to hit the trails, and easily upgradeable in the future.

@JeepGearGadgets
I remember doing my first build at 14 on my cheap Cherokee. Did an add a leaf, broke all the original leafs from wheeling and had to replace with new packs. When me and my buddy "both age 14" did the lift, we lifted it, and I couldn't get it out of the garage. Took it all apart, wheeled it out and installed it again. We learned so much that day 😅
Love the Cherokee. It drives so much smoother now. It feels great and is a classic!
I’ll never get it back now
Don’t forget to flatten the seam in those front wheel housings! Great video Ben!!
Glad to see projects that are reasonable for most
Do the suspension first, then choose the tires that fit
Choose tires you plan on running, then build suspension to suit
You're building the perfect rig for me 😂
haha!
Recently bought a 2001 Nissan Xterra and put 31” bf Goodrich Ko2 and I finally remember what is like to drive a normal vehicle again. To your last video, yes ! 31” tires and big tires again. Lol.
Nice, somehow those entry level, budget build stuff is always fun to watch!
I’ve been subscribed to yall for years now but I never get recommended your videos anymore yall gotta argue with the UA-cam gods
For the rear, check into a shackle relocation kit. Helps with the angle of the rear shackle and does give about an inch lift. Helps to have a better ride as the shackle is sitting in the correct angle. Lots of companies make them, some even make a "no lift" version.
Love these low budget builds...
Love the XJ...!!🇦🇺
I purchased these same wheels the Friday they came out. They look great on XJs
I agree, great looking wheel
My favorite Jeep ever lifted
before i went to coilovers on the xj it originally had the stock leafs and a 2" block. man it rode so well. i swapped it for rubicon express 3.5" leafs and it never rode the same again. so if you're ever wanting to change up the rear for a better ride, id recommend stock leafs, a small block and maybe longer shackle.
Got a sub due to taking care of the dogs. Plus you're a Jeep guy.
Had a 87 XJ back in 91. Minimal lift mfrs, expensive was Tomkins, cheapest was Rancho. Went with the middle with the CA drop brackets and short add-a-leaf, can't remember who I ran, but do recall how those short add-a-leafs would bend the longer XJ leafs bad on articulation. Swapped in a long add-a-leaf for a GM Blazer (back then it was only full-size). Did a lot better with the longer add-a-leafs.
Today, though the XJ hasn't been around since 01, still a viable wheeling vehicle.
cool build, enjoying the story!
Thank you for your service & great videos
Nice project. Love the budget friendly stuff.
👍🏽🇺🇸👍🏽 thank you for your service Ben. Nice video
I was in the army for 8 years, but you make the coast guard stuff look cool when you show little clips of it. Would definitely love to see more from your perspective!
Great video. Cute puppies.
Thank you for your service
Love the cg content, I’m an Mk. I have a 01 xj I’ve been completely rebuilding/ upgraded. For the rear end drive line vibes maybe try a shim to turn the pinion up since most full leaf packs come with one already (at least my rc 4.5 inch ones did and I don’t have any vibes) few companies out there make em for the xjs
Cute pups
I would have kept them, but the owner responded to my Facebook post😭 lol
How I miss that some days
Nice
Hmm Was that LJ a sneek peak of the next build ?😎
Its a thought! Its just such a good little jeep haha
12:32 the update came with the 97 model.
Oops! You are correct
@@JKGearandGadgets all good brother! Love the xj content!
I live in Okc and about to build an xj
I am trying to buy a tap and dye and some WD40
Go to Lowe’s at 9:00 on Tuesday, no one there apparantly
@@JKGearandGadgets it's a king of the hill reference
Just to be clear WJ could are different than all the other models you grouped in and mentioned for the acos
I'm running a 4.5 long arm with 8.8 rear currently on 33s, and I still haven't upgraded the driveshaft yet. I would still advise it
👍👍😃
Raise the front a little
I want to see how much the rear is going to settle in
Do a JK case swap.
If I find a Rubi Jk case, it’s going in Cassie’s LJ
@@JKGearandGadgets I meant just a standard JK case for the XJ. Rubi case would be cool, but the low gearing isn't really necessary for a small tire XJ with an 4.0/auto combo IMO.
You can definitely tell that is Bens sister..
6inch long arm lift lol...
Long arm eventually for sure!
@JKGearandGadgets im still trying to find a decent one on marketplace.. no luck yet.. I had one I was going to go look at on a Sunday but a gentleman went and looked at it on Saturday and bought it lol.. I just gotta keep looking I guess...
2 minutes in and it is already unrealistic. There is not near enough rust on that jeep.
Hahaha 🤣
You should build that, get it up to 35’s…. Then have a giveaway. Let the winner be the first person to say put it on 35’s and give it away
No
