This is insane. He destabilised his opponent and threw him off balance. His backhand is now matching his crazy forehand and that was why he could win easily. This is a fantastic winning from 2 games down. Super proud of Aruba. The last game was humiliating.

This is the king of Africa, Quadri Aruna. This match was a miracle, congratulation Quadri!
IMO he plays incredibly well tactically. And he uses the tools he does have to their max capacity. No backhand flip? No problem, just super duper smart high quality pushing
Are aware Aruna does not have a coach that is by him in his games? He is one of the most technically gifted players and beg to disagree he is not technically gifted
Maan, Harimoto played right into Aruna's forehand couple of times. Harimoto usually rallies and outlasts his opponents, but can you outlast Arunas forehand? Plus his backhand in the latter half was also formidable. And that last backhand at 31:36 shows how powerful Aruna's backhand could be if he was consistent with it. But kudos to Harimoto too, even in clutch moments he didn't resort to blocking, still tried to go all out with his attacking especially on the forehand side but alas it wasn't enough today
it's hard because Aruna is nevertheless very capable of running around the backhand side to play a FH and Harimoto has few answers to that. I think in general, Aruna's FH is probably the deadliest kill shot in the game, meaning if he's on top of the ball, you are literally praying that you will survive it. Not saying Aruna doesn't have weaknesses but even the Chinese top players don't like to face that FH head on because they know they won't be able to contain it easily. Even Ma Long couldn't stop many of those shots.
Haruna capitalized on harimoto's too much passive play. He tends to block too much and haruna used that opportunity to exert his powerful forehand beyond what harimoto could handle

Either as the ball is seemingly going to his backhand, or else if the ball is what seems to be v far away from his body on far side of table on forehand in an almost unreachable position. I think he has an unparalleled ability to get that whip like forehand in to play, even better than Ma Long, and Ma was excellent at ensuring his forehand was mostly in play.
Those last 2 points though! That said, he played about 40 of those when he beat Liang Jingkun! Great win. Shame to see Harimoto out so early. Always good value.

Third set was about Harimoto trying to win with power while Aruna was switching up his backhand spin to make Harimoto put balls into the net or miss the ball entirely. In the fourth set, Harimoto started slowing down the speed and adapting to the control game -- he started playing as wide as possible to the sides. Aruna tried to set up a third ball attack in the fourth set whenever he had the serve to get out of the jam of having to move so much to the sides. Aruna managed to secure the fourth set with a callback to the forehand flick metagame from the start of the match, showing his experience and intelligent gameplay. Harimoto started the fifth set by pushing Aruna on the freshness of his muscles. As a younger player his has an upper hand on the explosiveness in later sets, and the ability to remove lactate from the muscles fast. Yet, Aruna knows this game all to well and was two steps ahead of any move Harimoto could come up with at this point. The last set was a display of how Arunas experience has made him able to pick apart anyones game the longer the match goes on, similar to how Timo Boll played in the later years of his career.
Aruna played a huge chunk of this match flat-footed. He engaged in a lot of smash-and-sleep actions which cost him a lot of points on the recovery side. Why don’t Nigerians celebrate this giant more?

What made me laugh about this is how the japanese player was constantly shouting as he exchanged during the first 10mins….you can tell he was feeling himself. Fast forward to 29:22 he looks visibly shell shocked, dejected and even though it was a great exchange, notice how he does no more shouting….completely humbled
Quadri represented all Nigerians around the world. Needs to work on his foot work and balancing after a smash. Other than that, he’s a legend with a heart of a lion. Well done!
