not sure. I watched him live against Cassin just on Friday in France/Morez, he won 11-9 in the fifth set. He was showing his typical backhand attempts which mostly led to unforced errors on his side. But I agree, this match was just incredible and his backhand was „unusually good“, maybe you are right.
Is he getting older? Yes. Does he usually have shit backhand? Yes, but not today. Does he have good footwork? Definitely not. Is he technically well skilled? Surely not. Is he in terrible form in the recent months? Yes. Does he have machine gun forehand? Yes he has. Does he have giant heart and fighting spirit? Yes, he has. Who is this? This is the king of Africa, Quadri Aruna. This match was a miracle, congratulation Quadri!
IMO he plays incredibly well tactically. And he uses the tools he does have to their max capacity. No backhand flip? No problem, just super duper smart high quality pushing
Aruna always one of the most exciting players to watch due to his power and style. He had runs of bad points in a couple of sets, which is often his downfall but he grew stronger in this match and overpowered Harimoto at the end.
Maan, Harimoto played right into Aruna's forehand couple of times. Harimoto usually rallies and outlasts his opponents, but can you outlast Arunas forehand? Plus his backhand in the latter half was also formidable. And that last backhand at 31:36 shows how powerful Aruna's backhand could be if he was consistent with it. But kudos to Harimoto too, even in clutch moments he didn't resort to blocking, still tried to go all out with his attacking especially on the forehand side but alas it wasn't enough today
it's hard because Aruna is nevertheless very capable of running around the backhand side to play a FH and Harimoto has few answers to that. I think in general, Aruna's FH is probably the deadliest kill shot in the game, meaning if he's on top of the ball, you are literally praying that you will survive it. Not saying Aruna doesn't have weaknesses but even the Chinese top players don't like to face that FH head on because they know they won't be able to contain it easily. Even Ma Long couldn't stop many of those shots.
Haruna capitalized on harimoto's too much passive play. He tends to block too much and haruna used that opportunity to exert his powerful forehand beyond what harimoto could handle
@@matmagix3845 I think something that isn't usually talked about, which you have though in your comment, is his ability to get the forehand in to play. Either as the ball is seemingly going to his backhand, or else if the ball is what seems to be v far away from his body on far side of table on forehand in an almost unreachable position. I think he has an unparalleled ability to get that whip like forehand in to play, even better than Ma Long, and Ma was excellent at ensuring his forehand was mostly in play.
First two sets was about that over the table forehand flip. Both players started doing it and adapting to it. Third set was about Harimoto trying to win with power while Aruna was switching up his backhand spin to make Harimoto put balls into the net or miss the ball entirely. In the fourth set, Harimoto started slowing down the speed and adapting to the control game -- he started playing as wide as possible to the sides. Aruna tried to set up a third ball attack in the fourth set whenever he had the serve to get out of the jam of having to move so much to the sides. Aruna managed to secure the fourth set with a callback to the forehand flick metagame from the start of the match, showing his experience and intelligent gameplay. Harimoto started the fifth set by pushing Aruna on the freshness of his muscles. As a younger player his has an upper hand on the explosiveness in later sets, and the ability to remove lactate from the muscles fast. Yet, Aruna knows this game all to well and was two steps ahead of any move Harimoto could come up with at this point. The last set was a display of how Arunas experience has made him able to pick apart anyones game the longer the match goes on, similar to how Timo Boll played in the later years of his career.
Those last 2 points though! That said, he played about 40 of those when he beat Liang Jingkun! Great win. Shame to see Harimoto out so early. Always good value.
Aruna has become a beast!!💪 He defeated Harimoto the second time in a row now!😮🥶His forehand was always strong, but now also his backhand and mental game...
Aruna played a huge chunk of this match flat-footed. He engaged in a lot of smash-and-sleep actions which cost him a lot of points on the recovery side. Why don’t Nigerians celebrate this giant more?
The screams between points were already annoying enough, so now he's adding extra noise during the point, Ovtcharov style. When is ITTF going to rule this out?
@@adedayoadeyemo6148 as in he has children and a wife to fund, harimoto is 21 years old, doubt he has a wife and 2 children. Of course he has responsibilities, but probably not children and a wife.
Q😊Seen a lot of winning streaks from those top players but admirably only the best of the best can recover/rebound from a losing game. That's the difference between the GOAT's and the rest.
Believe me , if Quadri has backhand like this Harimotor , this Harimotor wouldn’t even win a game bc Quadri experience is far above his own . We thank God for the improvement in the backhand
Couldn't believe the result, when i saw it before watching the match. And then it still is a mystery to me. Aruna should never come near to a win against Harimoto. He is a great player, but his style should be like a christmas present for Harimoto. It's like playing an old fashioned penholder player, covering the whole table with forehand and - on this level - a weak backhand. And not the fastest legs anymore, which is essential for that approach. One in the deep forehand, one in backhand and Aruna was in trouble. So, it's strictly necessary to switch sides constantly. And from a top ten player i expect a hard forehand flip sometimes longline or into the body and not always cross (just for variety). I don't know why Harimoto seemed to be so insecure and afraid. Even with at 2:1 and 5:1 in the 4th game he didn't look confident. Overall this was a mental and strategic loss. Congrats to Quadri Aruna. It's fun to watch him.
Как же мне нравится этот африканский воин дракона! Такие выстрелы справа должны быть вне закона) I like this african dragon warrior so much. Such shots of forehand should be illegal) 31:39 shows us that he's a Shrek fan)
The Chinese Table Tennis team domination in the world, one of the reason is the imitators (imitating different style of playing ) in the training group! But in Japan, they don’t have this capacity!
Well that's everyone else in the world. China even travels with a contingent of B level and C level players with various styles to practice with during tournaments.
omg he's different! He doesn't do too much backswing, just like when you drive the ball, so he has more time, but he finishes the move above his head lol :O
Aruna is something else man. His backhand improved so hard.

Aruna's front hand is always online. But when his backhand is working, he is tough to beat.
This time…I am more than proud of being a Nigerian 🇳🇬

I'm really stunned by this match.. Aruna's this version is unimaginable.. HariMoto seemed like a trainee in the last match. God bless both of you.
The best version of Quadri Aruna I’ve ever seen ❤
Aruna legendary player.. enough skill and power to beat anyone given the opportunity. His forehand is one of a kind, crazy form
Congratulations Aruna . from Egypt

Fantastic. Well played by both. But Quadri was on another level. So happy for him. Maybe the screamer should rethink his use of the vocal cords.

it is amazing how Aruna hits the forehand balls at the highest ball altitude. That's what's giving him those magnificent forehands.
