Upper Deck hockey cards have some of the best designs and photographs of any of the main sports, and the really wild patches are incredible.
Series 2 photography was high end this year some of the base cards look amazing to be honest.
Yeah I’m a big fan from afar. Never owned a hockey card but I respect
Love Upper Deck since 89' They just know how to make a product look right licensed or unlicensed. Can you imagine seeing Wemby, Jordan & James triple auto being made. 🤯
Same here. Man would be wild and I’m not a big Victor guy
That would be insane.
Putting everybody on game, good take. If unlicensed is the new way, take advantage now. Upper Deck...Wow , back in the forefront. Really good call.
Yeah for sure. Appreciate you
Upper Deck 55pt cardstock is still 🐐
For real
Yes love upper deck since 1992 Jordan’s. It’s just hand in hand with Jordan tiger Kobe etc. love exquisite. Been buying more and more old game used lately and exquisite. Best part is Goodwin is cheap. $100 a hobby box to try to pull Caleb and Jordan and tiger on card autos. Can’t beat it. They grade decent too. Love future watch. I thought upper deck was dead but nope. Back to it 😂😂😂
Spot on I'm all in for the exquisite football of the 2000s that's what I'm buying. Love the game used with on card autos. I hope exquisite football makes a comeback 🎉
Love your take on this.
Thanks so much
Most hockey card collectors usually have bad things to say about upper deck, like football collectors and panini. But as a whole I think upper deck is less of a train wreck then the others.
That’s my thought process on it exactly
Upper deck hockey is the only thing keeping the BGS 9.5 relevant. Fanatics buying upper deck would be the death of all Canadian hobby shops.
And one more point. 5 years ago I said MJ on card autos of him in a bulls uni is the safest buy and I also still stand by this.
Yeah for sure. You’ll be proven right with that one I’m sure
You are right... It is in the best interest of the hobby to keep Fanatics out.
All it takes is a quick search to see who Fanatics executives are.
Between Rubin and the other C-level folks, do you see a commonality between their names?
If you've gotten this far, do you STILL think Fanatics is in it "for the fan?"
If you'll buy that, I've got some ocean front property in Arizona...
I have some upper deck cards from 1994 raw
Young Guns, You can't forget that one series of rookie cards has carries base upper deck hockey for the last 25 years plus that is all that run has and they do it every year with success.
I don’t do hockey. Just gave them props all around for it at the opening
@@SCVSportsCards I know you don't do hockey, but the things that Upper Deck do that others try and fail at Upper Deck has been the Quit tread setter for a long time
I remember when it first come out in 1989. They were the first to use the card stock they use, first to put inserts into their product and first to use autos and short prints. They have been clever since they started. Other than way overproduction of their cards in the 90's, which all of them are guilty of, they are a very innovative card company.
Yeah for sure. I look past that because the signatures and patches and stuff are so brilliant
Yeah, upper deck for me was always the gold standard. I have some pretty cool looking Jordan and LeBron James cards from Upper Deck, SPx and others. I have to tell you I have that Topps 03-04 LeBron rookie card holding his jersey and it’s so blah. I hate those street clothes cards. For the heck of it today I bought some 2022 Wild Card Matte football blasters from Walmart. Not sure why they’re pushing out the old cards. But these cards look really cool. Innovative designs and colors. I’m thinking about going back and getting more.
Yeah for sure. I think the street clothes cards are cool but we all have our own viewpoints for sure
I Like Bazooka Joe cards for some reason lol I guess it reminds me of my childhood
Sharp stuff man they really were
Ive always loved upper deck.
Generally agree with you....... How is changing product year to year, while also including a 2012 tribute WORSE than using the same cards 10 years straight? Surely this is a troll job...
Tune into the next q and a and I’ll have a pretty insightful and wild answer to this for you
Always loved UD! Still do.....
Completely agree
Hey again, I think I’ve commented on 75% of your videos. I don’t watch hockey anymore but I still buy hockey cards now and again of ultra modern and upper deck for hockey when it came out in the we early 90’s was amazing compared to the usual topps which in Canada is crap until ultra modern and bowman which for hockey was bleh and I don’t know if they do hockey anymore but upper deck is by far the best for hockey out of alll the sports. They have amazing play pictures and the sp authentic, I don’t know why but the white card with the player pics in hockey especially is one of my favourite product designs. Spx and sp game used are great too but for spx you’re getting into the 4-500 dollar for a hobby box of usually 10-15 cards per box.depending on the year and sp game used is the $6-700+ hobby box of 4-6 cards per box depending on the year. I’m talking about hockey cards in general. But other sports I agree with you. They aren’t the cheapest cards and they are far from the most expensive but imo they are decent quality cards for the money and they usually hold their value. They are usually simple base cards with inserts and not the 10 versions of the same base card with different colors and colors schemes which can be quite overwhelming to know which colors of which brands are the most popular and valuable. With anything they have their faults but for many collectors on a budget or someone flipping who doesn’t have thousands of dollars to spend on raw cards, upper deck is a great choice in either case. Keep up with the awesome videos. You don’t have a patreon so I hope the couple cards I bought made you some money to show my appreciation for what you do.🍻
Oops I forgot what used to be the top card Brian’s for hockey before upper deck came out which was o-pee-chee (Canada’s version of toops but with about 40% more than topps.) I will also agree that if more people were open minded they would see what awesome points you made about upper deck. Topps and panini have dropped the ball with their unlicensed stuff. Especially with the Stroud and wemby signing rights but fanatics are letting the ball roll away. They want to 10x the collector base yet it feels like they don’t have the drive to succeed as long as they can hold back panini. Idk it’s f’d in my mind so we will keep watching upper deck succeed while fanatics and panini have their childish game on the sidelines.
Yeah I appreciate you supporting me with or without buying things. Totally agree with all of this, I see it the way you do for sure
I only collect joe montana 1979 to 1995, montana career set, too many varieties and brands now, upper deck football started that
Yeah have to limit it
If only upper deck regain their MLB rights... UD quality was top notch, they did have cool designs, and their patch/auto were legit. If UD gains the MLB rights i'll drop cash for hobby boxes (i barely rip product and the only product I'll buy is topps heritage cause of their paper quality and throwback designs). Hell I've recently been looking for future HoF players (Verlander, Scherzer, Greinke, Longoria, etc) UD rookie cards.
^^Longoria is not a hall of famer but the rest are
@@garygordon3075 you're not wrong, he's still a free agent but I highly doubt he's going to get signed. Still pretty good player and if only the Dbacks won the WS last yr...
Yeah for sure. I’m not sure their on card patch autos sell for much but I think the cards looked nice for sure
They did loony toons in 90. Cool holographic cards also did it in football. Still have them. Just don't decapitate daffy duck lol. Love street clothes. Upper deck has the 70's born kids
Yeah for sure. Not my thing but they are clever cards which I can respect
Exquisite is awesome! Had a Michael Jordan Auto on card! And a Lebron James auto #/5! 2 Bangers!!!!
Yeah man solid cards
U forgot the the goats only sign for upper deck. Michael Jordan tiger woods wayne and labron James
I mean I basically said it just with the guys at the very end. They don’t sign a ton for them currently though
hey scv whats your thoughts on error cards and misprints cool thing in the hobby or nay?
I don’t care much about them
Been collecting since ‘83 and have always liked Upperdeck even after they lost most of the licensing. Everyone I talked to in 2012/13 were so against the Fleer Retro sets because they to use the college pics but the metal and Fleer throwback designs are a nostalgic drug to people (and they still
Recycle those sets currently). Even with a terrible draft class those PMGs and other inserts still bring good money. Seen a Caleb PMG sell pretty recent at big $
Same here. Even the college cards man I don’t like as much as street clothes but I don’t mind them
I swear I wish I had your brain at your age man. Always on point. 10:51
Appreciate the kind words. Means so much
@@SCVSportsCards your doing great please stay safe man the bigger you become the bigger the haters become.
Upper deck used to make such amazing products with the best patch autos. Exquisite is my favorite football card product of all time simply because of the amazing quality memorabilia cards that they released in the set each year. They really need to get the nfl license back keep making the great content💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
I think they still do. Appreciate you
Upper Deck is by far the best just wish they could run a timeline on getting there product out on time and cut back on some of the lower end hockey that they do and please fix the SPX line when that came out it was amazing now its just crap
Yeah for sure. Always ways to improve any person company or business
I have a couple of the Kobe Santa suit cards from 2000
Haven’t seen those I’m sure they are sharp
@@SCVSportsCards pretty affordable still. About the same size as the jordan nike rookie promo but less expensive
Agreed. Upper Deck is probably the best of the card companies. So glad they have the NHL. Probably not your thing but… Upper Deck has Marvel and should try to take Star Wars away from Topps.
Topps has stopped giving sketch card artists blank artist proof cards for their sketch card artists. It’s how the artists make their money doing cards for sets, including MLB.
Basically saying UD mostly does it right and treats their people like they matter. A little appreciation goes a long way.
I agree, on point analysis
Stay away from my Rookie Gems /349 & /99.... They are all mine already calles dibs ;)
Upper deck cards are very plain. But the 3 players only have value. Maybe I need to get U.D
I like upper deck man the plainness works for me
I believe UD already offered themselves up to Fanatics but Fanatics cares so little about hockey that they declined.
That being said, I still believe UD is the best card company of all time in where it counts...making the best cards for the collectors that last in value. The Young Guns sub brand is the best out of any product, this company was the first to introduce memorabilia and the first put autos into product. This includes Be A Player in hockey back when you didn't get an auto in every palette of cases, they had a product that was one auto per pack.
By pushing the edge, they also pulled the rest of the dinosaurs like Topps forward. Topps only made Stadium Club because Upper Deck regular cards blew Topps pulp gum cards out of the water. While other companies were doing different stampings, little bells and whistles, just parallels, UD always had superior designs, superior base cards and highly innovative inventions from increasing stock thickness, adding the aforementioned autos and game jerseys/bats, using metal and acetate... basically redesigning the entire hobby.
Are you just making that top part up or was it reported somewhere. What I’ve heard is upper deck is not and never will be for sale. Of course fanatics would like them and panini
@@SCVSportsCards Wow, what an aggressive comment. You have a nice day. Sounds like you need it.
I’m asking a question. I’ve had it sourced that upper deck will never sell. Just responding to a comment asking you to clarify. Sorry your little feelings got hurt ? I’m doing fine
@@SCVSportsCards My feelings? Your aggression is showing again. Why bother making a channel if all it’s going to do is get angry. I also like how you try to talk logic as if you didn’t already lose the conversation.
@@Rorschachqp you are a unique piece of work man. Cant answer the question I have asked you multiple times, just resort to getting irritated at the way I word things or asked or whatever.
You ever flip UFC cards?
Im sure of the answer 😅 but I'm here for the response
What do you think the answer is ? Filter oldest and you’ll get the answer in my fifth ever video
@@SCVSportsCards I think the answer is no most of the time but if you see a card for cheap, of say Conor, then I bet you would flip it. Going to watch the video now
So……what is the “dark truth” about upper deck as indicated in the title? The Vid sounds like you appreciate upper deck?!?!?
Some clickbait never hurt anyone
@@SCVSportsCards keeping you honest.
Upper deck is a horrible company with of history of shady and illegal activities. They are banned from ever making mlb products, sued by the mlb, and nfl. Had to pay millions to settle. And stole card designs from Topps, which they also lost when they were sued.
I mean every company in the industry has a big rap sheet. Is what it is
panini and topps are worse tho especially with the redemptions

I mean dude I just say what comes to mind. I would say it’s magic happening, that’s what most people summarize what I’ve done with cards. Mind blowing at least and unfathomable for many. So if I miss a word or something per video, whatever
