I would love to do cards full time, it is very hard though. I do it as a side gig and have respect for those who do it full time. I have it in the back of my mind and currently am scaling up my ebay store (I do lower dollar cards), I hit up card shows, shops, and buy lots on ebay. I do pretty well, but to give up that steady paycheck, health insurance and 401k from my 9 to 5 job is a scary proposition.
It is hard for sure, probably a good side gig to start
Psa update. My 2 orders were stuck 4 and 6 weeks and all of a sudden both done. First order 50% gem pretty happy. Next order absolute disaster 20% gem rate with tons of 6s. Just nightmare. Might have to recrack lose tons ugh 😢😢😢

Step 1 of how NOT to build and run a sports card business: Wasting your life savings to open up a physical store. Might as well use that money to buy a fancy stretcher.
I just leased a brick and mortar store my condo on top so no lease on store front my wife running the store while I run my masonry company no need for a fancy stretcher haha

I have always pulled a full time job to hook the fam up "laser technician". Part time seller of PSA cards as an boost. I invest at a lower purchase point to nominalize the loss potential, $30 to $50 raw. The flip side still nets high dividends, but the risk is lower. Let's face it, even if Im lucky only 4 out of 10 raw purchases will gem. I sold a griffey I pulled in 1998 and paid $7 to grade for $300 today. Seems the times have changed. Just stay on the right side of inflation.

It seems like we are in an era where the sports leagues are lame, the games are lame, the players are lame and nearly all of this era's cards will be seen as lame at some point in the future

Just remember the sartup cash should include post purchase costs/losses.
Its a reatil business, the cheaper you buy (not meaning low $) obviously the higher return.
Watched other videos and you have 50%, or less, chance 10ing raw purchases. That has to be included in your analysis

I still see sales around 30 for base prizm rookie cards the 9 psa is only pulling 15-20.... just crazy.
Yeah, 9s are dead. Makes no sense. Raws costing more than a 9 just means a bubble will burst and people would rather gamble than buy an absolute.
this will seem like 2 basic questions but for card grading, how can you tell the centering of the card in general, like if it is 60 40 or 50 50? also, how can you determine how the surface is on like red ice parallels, which are harder to see, when buying on eBay? Do you ask for more photos for surface?

So it’s a crapshoot. Minshew might start play all year or oconnell. Just another gamble. But oconnell did have 4 td on mon night last year and nobody cared. My auto to 25 1st bowman that night sold for $50. Just crap. But he has potential. If cheap buy I say as there are deals to be made if you wanna wait. 😅

What’s your thoughts on the psa to eBay auctions after your grades pop? Will definitely save a lot of time on shipping and other problems that they’ll have to deal with instead of you personally.

bought a card from the states for 200$ the shipping label was auto generated by ebay for 28$ (this is all canadian dollars btw)
i get an email that the card is stuck at customs and i gotta pay like 20$ to get it over
i dont think im gonna buy any more cards from the states at this rate 50$ shipping is insane

You’re paying sales tax at customs for anything valued over $100. Shipping is also taxed. EBay’s GLOBAL SHIPPING is the worst scam yet. A Plain White Envelope containing a $5 card costs $15 to ship. Seller receives Pennys on the dollar. Although limiting, I now buy exclusively from CDN. sellers
