Finally a direction for all these collage papers I am creating. Thank you! Love your channel. Got my direction down to two or three artists for collage. Thank you for sharing!
OMG Cat these collage papers are absolutely stunning and your explanation of how to make is better than any that I had sent you not realizing you had done a video on paste paper. WOW ! WOW! WOW!
The coaster with the concentric circles is such an excellent mark making tool! I haven’t tried this method, but it will be a joy when I do. Thank you for the excellent content; I just subscribed and look forward to diving into your videos. 😊
Thank you for sharing this cool idea. My first attempt my paint paste was way too thick which thickened my paper. I did get some cool designs. I’ll post it on Instagram and tag you.
It always takes me quite a few tries with EVERY paper I demo for UA-cam, so I get it. Continuing to experiment until you find what you love to create with the technique is the key. I'd love to see your end product. Tag me on IG @catrains.artist!
Hi Catherine. Your papers are gorgeous. I must try that😊 I wonder if they go sticky when dry - and can you cover them with gloss or mat medium just as all other papers when using them in collage? I tried wallpaper paste directly on a canvas once and it is still a bit sticky even after months of drying. 🥀
Thanks so much Nina. The papers are completely dry to the touch, not sticky at all. If you follow what I'm doing here, I think you'll find that true for you as well!
Hi! Really enjoyed this video. On what kind of surface to you put the wet paper to dry. I'm guessing it should be something that will be smooth enough it doesn't stick Or a drying rack? I'm curious, thank you!
So glad you enjoyed the video. I use a clear, cheap shower curtain spread on the ground. I actually have 3 of them so that I have plenty of drying space if I can't stop making papers! But if I use all of them, I also cannot walk in my studio because it's covered with drying papers!
I tried this with modeling paste which I thinned somewhat with medium then added some acrylic. I wasn’t that impressed with the results until I used a stencil on one piece. Where can I post it to show you?
Thanks Kathryn! I'm using Nova acrylics full strength, but when you add them to wall paper paste, it thins out the paint. The more paint you add to the paste, the thicker the outcome.
that roman paste doesn't seem to be available here in Europe on amazon - how can I make it from cornstarch? What should I search for exactly? corn starch wallpaper paste?
I don't have the exact recipe, although I've read its about 1/2 cornstarch or pastry flour and 1/2 water. Yes, I would google cornstarch paste paper recipes. Someone has surely done a video on this because artists have told me they do it this way. You'll save money creating your own. However, you probably have other brands of pre-mixed wallpaper paste where you live.
Did you order wallpaper paste? It's kind of in between thick and runny. You can pick it up with a palette knife, and it will also glide right off the knife and stir easily.

Thank you for sharing. Love this technique ❤
You are most welcome. Hope you enjoy creating these!

Could you glue a raised little bob of wood on back of that “coaster” to make stamping its shape easier?
Sure, that's a great idea. Although its not hard to use without it.
17:54 mins in, love that one, but all of them are so unique.
Thank you so much! 💕
¡Gracias!
These are so cool! I can’t wait to try them!
I can't wait for you to try them either!!! Enjoy.
Very cool! TFS! 👍🌞
Glad you liked it!

Very interesting new technique to try. It sure makes gorgeous papers❣️❣️
Thanks so much 😊 It's a blast!
Catherine, beautiful! These pots of paint is paint + paste? The wallpaper paste I saw is transparent. Is it ok to use it?
I think mine is transparent too, although looks white in the bucket. Transparent is good because it won't affect the color you add to it.
Can you please share what your table is covered with when doing the wallpaper paste technique and wetting surfaces? Thanks so much for sharing❣
It's a ranger craft mat, and is sold by Joggles.com. I have a link to it under the video.
awesome!
Thank you!!!
Brava!
Thanks so much Jerald!
Wow! How fun! How long do these glue papers take to dry? Maybe you told us but I was too excited by the techniques and didn’t hear that part.
So glad that you enjoyed the demo! It usually takes about 12 hours depending on how thick I laid down the paste on each paper.
I tried this with modeling paste which I thinned somewhat with medium then added some acrylic. I wasn’t that impressed with the results until I used a stencil on one piece. Where can I post it to show you?
Love how you experimented and made this process your own. Brilliant idea. Can you post to Instagram and tag me @catrains.artist?
Love your work! Are you using semi transparent paint for these papers?
Thanks Kathryn! I'm using Nova acrylics full strength, but when you add them to wall paper paste, it thins out the paint. The more paint you add to the paste, the thicker the outcome.

I ordered some of the adhesive paste. Is it supposed to be thick or runny?
Did you order wallpaper paste? It's kind of in between thick and runny. You can pick it up with a palette knife, and it will also glide right off the knife and stir easily.
@@catrains.artist Thought I got bad batch. 😀
@@jehuckphoto Did you buy a product that was called "wallpaper paste"?
@@catrains.artist Yes the same product you show in video. I think it is fine.
Danke für das Video. Gut, dass ich zuschauen kann, denn auf Englisch verstehe ich nicht alles. 🙄🙃
I hope that you got the techniques by watching the video!
