I love your content, Catherine! Your art is inspirational. I wished you put these in landscape view so it filled the UA-cam screen. The vertical is just so hard to see the detail. Thanks for posting.
So glad that you love the content. I totally agree with the vertical not being the way to go. Any of my vertical videos were reposted from the art demos I did on Instagram last year. Now I wish I had waited to refilm them all, but some got reposted before I thought about doing this. Still might do it, we'll see. So many new papers to film that I hate going backwards!
Wow! Just found you. I love doing mixed media, and you've just opened a world of inspiration. This is going to up my game. Thanks for sharing. Blessings go with you to the Mayo.
Carol Nelson is a nickel azo gold addict and after I took her class on Craftsy a couple years back, now I am too. The color just makes everything look so good. True story... 😅
Have a tried this using the metal tape from the DIY hardware store? If you stick that to paper or cardstock and use the embossing folders it works well too. Thank you!
I actually use some of these papers in my large class Collage Joy that opens in January 2025. Other than that, I've shown how to combine 5 types of papers together in four separate videos. These would give you an idea of what I would do with aluminum paper.
I posted a reel to Instagram several days ago that has this type of paper in it. Go to my account @catrains.artist and look for the reel before the last one. The redish piece of collage paper is foil.
I'd love to have you in one of my upcoming workshops. There is a link under Show More in the description with a link to my website for more info on online classes.
I put aluminum foil in my inbox and it is a cuttle bug Handheld and it works just fine so I think that I never thought of painting it so I’ll have to try them❤
Yes! After I have taught 5 different types of collage papers, I show how to put those 5 together into one collage. I'm now on my 4th paper out of 5, and will be making a collage with all 5 very soon. Until then, I've already done this 4 times, so you can go back into my video library to view the other times I have done this.
I actually have 4 videos showing how I put together a series of 5 different papers in a single collage. Not sure if aluminum foil paper made one of these, but the process is the same using other papers.
I really enjoyed watching this! I have just shown a video where I have used various painted collage papers but I haven't tried foil! I must have a go with the foil! 😊
If a light coat of joint compound was spread on the backside of the foil relief, would that keep the texture from flattening? Also, would very lightly sanding the relief bring out the shine of the foil?
I have a lung problem also . I only smoked 2 months when I was a teenager but decided I was spending money for something I didn't like . But I understand how careful we have to be . Good luck .
I didn't actually use this paper in a collage. All the videos dated May 5, 2023 and after, however, are in 3 videos showing how to make collages with 5 types of paper each.
I suppose I'm going to have to eat my previous comments after seeing 3 videos...this is the 4th....it is WILDLY amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!! I may have to give up my day job just to experiment with this technique after I score some embossing folders!!! 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯❣❣❣❣
This is a great technique ... thank you. Would it be possible to use alcohol inks instead of paint? And sending healthy energy for positive medical results.
I appreciate your honesty. Much of collage paper making is about making a big mess, until you discover something spectral at the end. I use many of these papers in my collage work.
I love using embossing folders on lots of media as well as paints, inks, chalks, etc. I will try aluminum foil tomorrow.
I agree that embossing folders are so versatile!
I would love to see you using it in a collage…..😊
And I'll be showing this in about 3 weeks, once I've demoed a few more papers! If you are on my newsletter list, you will know when.

Thanks Catherine for the lovely video. All the best for your visit to the Mayo clinic
Enjoy your tutorials so much!
I'm so glad!

I'm so glad that you found this demo useful. Would love to see what you create with it!

I too love Carol's use of foil in her work. Very inspiring!
Amazing effects I want to try this out now for sure! Love the transluscence and the texture with the stencils
I agree that this creates amazing affects. Hope you enjoy creating these!
Have a tried this using the metal tape from the DIY hardware store? If you stick that to paper or cardstock and use the embossing folders it works well too. Thank you!
Hmmm, I need to try that! I truly appreciate the suggestion.
Would you happen to have some finished aluminum foil collage work to view? Thanks!

It might be interesting to try repousse' on soft metals where you could "draw" your own design.
I love how you are expanding on what I'm teaching here and making it your own. Another fabulous idea!
Do you have examples showing them used in collage ?

@@catrains.artist let me know if you decide to create a short here on UA-cam showing the foil in collage. I'm not on IG. Thanks for your reply.
@@ultraviolet734 Will do. Sorry that I don't have an easy way to show you other than IG.
Wonderful ideas! I will definitely try them.
So glad that you are going to try this paper out. Very fun to create, with magical results!
Love your work, I am 💯💯💯💯 inspired and motivated to go Ness 🤣🤣💐💐💐💐💐💐
Go for it! Cannot wait to hear how your mess turns into a masterpiece!
I want to take a class! Thank you for all these great tutorials

So delighted to see your messy table resembles mine! LOL
It's an ongoing mess/clean-up balance 🤣
Can you please post what the embossing packets are sold as. You are truly inspirational!
Just added the link to the embossing folders to this video! Thanks for asking.
You can also paint the folder inside and then put the foil in. As long as you rinse right away the paint should come out. Maybe easier?
Ohhhh I love that idea! Thanks for sharing. Never thought of that.
Missed this on ethe first time around.. Soooo many options now...
I love that you are watching all my videos! Thank you Emily.
@@catrains.artist I learn a lot and I appreciate your teaching style.. you are very generous
@@EmilyBlitzer Thank you dear Emily.
On the sticky acrylic paint, try appluing cold wax or baby powder for storing 😊
GREAT idea! Thanks so much for sharing.

Do you ever show how you use the wonderful papers/paints etc in a collage?

So fun… and we all have Foil at home so let's get to create !!! Thanks for sharing 🙏💖
Yes! Go have fun and start creating! 🥰
looks fun. Thanks for being an inspiration.
It is fun! Hope you will try it!
U could use up old texture paste on the back to keep dimension.
It holds the dimension rather well, but texture paste would certainly make it even sturdier.
Thank you!😊
You're welcome 😊
Sorry, ur 2 is eastern? So west coast i'm 3 hrs earlier = 11a? glad to find u recently! 🙋😊💐
Yes that is correct. Glad we found each other. See you next Tuesday!
Thankyou very inspiring idea's
This was awesome. I will have my students make their own foil paper to create turtles using that turtle shell embossing folder. So cool!
That's a great idea! Love it
I liked this thanks inspired me 😊🎉
So glad that you found this inspiring!
These are fabulous🤗🌟 So happy to find your channel 💙
Thanks so much 😊 and welcome!
I can't wait to try it! Thank you.
Have fun!
How are you using these in collage? (Are you just gluing it onto paper with a medium or PVA glue?
Yes gluing them with matte medium.
Beautiful technique!
Glad you like it!
I really enjoyed watching this! I have just shown a video where I have used various painted collage papers but I haven't tried foil! I must have a go with the foil! 😊
Have fun! It's a lot of fun, thank you for watching
When you add so much water to the acrylic, the binder is weakened. . . It needs top-sealant or it may flake off.
Good to know, thank you.
That's so nice❤
Thanks so much!
New subscriber here 😊 if I want to add this to my art journal how would I glue this on ?
Thanks so very much for joining me!!! This glues to a journal with medium or gel medium.
If a light coat of joint compound was spread on the backside of the foil relief, would that keep the texture from flattening? Also, would very lightly sanding the relief bring out the shine of the foil?
Both are great suggestions, and techniques I haven't yet tried. How about you do it and let us all know how it works!?
@@catrains.artist I'll know by tomorrow. Just gave it a try!
I just found you and love how you share! ❤
Sending hugs (no kisses) to you for your trip! 😊
Thank you so much!
Possibly fold the light weight foil to make a stronger sheet?
You could, but then you are using twice to amount of aluminum foil. Might as well use heavy duty aluminum foil instead!
I had so much fun making this paper. May I ask what you used to seal them when they are done? I did not see it in the supplies list.
So glad that you enjoyed making this paper! Me too. I sealed them with matte medium.
Have you tried a mister bottle that doesn't blop out the water??
Yes, I have a mister, but I didn't own one when I made this video! I do like a mister better as well.
I have a lung problem also . I only smoked 2 months when I was a teenager but decided I was spending money for something I didn't like . But I understand how careful we have to be . Good luck .
Brilliant thankyou. Is that tissue paper that you blotted the blue paint over the foil - normal tissue? How did it not tear?
Yes it's "normal" tissue, as in gift grade. What you wrap gifts with. I'm just very careful as I lift it and lay it out to dry.
@@catrains.artist gosh that’s amazing- it can be done then. I just need to be more careful!
Can I use acrylic paint on the tinfoil?
Yes! Its what I used.
First time watching your video. Love it. Can you use acrylic paint?? Thanks
That's what I'm using!
I don-t have embossing folders, but i'll try foil on a rubber stamp. Perhaps pounce foil with a stiff brush.
Let me know how it turns out! Would love to see it
Did you say what type of paint?Thank you!
I'm using acrylic paint. My fave is from Nova.
What do you use to take the shine away and to create the matte finish? Is it matte gel medium?
I usually use a matte medium, and a gel matte is fine too. If you use the dull side of the foil, it also gets less shine.
can you also use tissue paper to make an imprint
Yes!
Do you use glue or medium to stick foil down. Does it adhere okay?
I use medium as my glue, and yes it adheres great.
I looked up Carol Nelson, but did not see any aluminum foil in collage. Also, did she pass away ?
She is still alive, and sometimes includes this paper in her work.
Guten Morgen, ich bin begeistert. Ich suche das Video wo du das in Collage benutzt - ich finde es leider nicht. Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland.
I didn't actually use this paper in a collage. All the videos dated May 5, 2023 and after, however, are in 3 videos showing how to make collages with 5 types of paper each.
What's best way to apply the foil pieces to your collage to make it adhere well?
P.S. LOVE the looks of all these, very excited to try them... Thx so much for your great teaching!!
I apply mine with gel or matte medium. I'm thrilled that you are giving these a try!
My Mind is blown! Lol!
Love that I blew your mind. Hope you enjoy creating these!
Using a wider brush to dry brush would help.
Great idea!
You are too kind, and hilarious! Here's to quitting your job to watch UA-cam videos and experiment all day long😉!
I would like a wider view.
Good to know for future videos. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do to change this one. Can you zoom in?
This is a great technique ... thank you. Would it be possible to use alcohol inks instead of paint? And sending healthy energy for positive medical results.
Thanks for the loving words. Don't know if alcohol would work or not, but worth a try. Hope you will experiment with this and let us all know!
Link for lamp won’t work 😢
It should work now, I JUST tested it. Not sure what the issue was, but it should be easy now.
if you use alcohol ink, you wont need to seal... and those inks are extremely fun and addictive!
Great tip! Thank you so much!
